Green Line Auto Service and Tire

Over a year ago they said my tires were wearing out. Still have the those tires. Took my car in yesterday because my usual company could not take me and a flat had developed quickly. Again they told me my tires were wearing out. After tire was replaced and i was paying I said that this was the second time they had said this. Of course they are wearing out and do so each time I drive, but they each time implied that replacements were needed. They got aggressive which to me is an indicator that there is an ethical problem.

Great customer service. We blew a boat trailer tire on I94. We were able to get to Royal tire where we were immediately attended to! Thanks!!!

This was my goto shop for years. Generally the service was good, but it’s a competitive industry and it only takes one bad experience to wreck a bunch of good ones.
4 years ago I thought they hosed me when my truck needed a new alternator. Nearly $ 300 for a rebuilt part and 1.5 hours of labor on top of that. I found the part for $ 90 and with a friend’s help (and none of the equipment at a full-​service shop), we fixed it in about the same time, and it still works great today.
But a good shop is hard to find, and eventually I came back, though I had a few words about my future expectations. We got through it, and I enjoyed good service for a few more years. Then this year I asked them to fix an engine hesitation in my wife’s car. I had thoroughly researched it in advance, and word was it was a difficult problem to diagnose. I was clear — I did NOT want to throw parts and money at it randomly to fix it.
At first they didn’t think there was a problem, which stunned me, as the car was obviously not driving correctly. Then they told me they knew what the issue was, and convinced me to spend almost $ 400 to fix it. I picked up the car while my wife was in labor, and it was clear in the first ¼ mile they hadn’t fixed the problem. I took it back and they tried something else; while they did not charge me, whatever they did was useless. So twice they told me they fixed it when it was clear they hadn’t, this after originally failing to acknowledge the problem at all.
I recently took the car to a shop much closer to my house, and they diagnosed it immediately, and fixed it for less than $ 200. (See my review on Flanery’s Automotive).
So I bid farewell to Ralph, Damon and all the folks at Royal Tire. For tires and brakes, oil changes, and other routine stuff, they are satisfactory. But I seriously question their ability to diagnose more complex problems now, and I am still missing the $ 400 I paid them to fix something that was broken. They should have maintained that they couldn’t find the problem; at least that would have been honest. Two strikes means you’re out in this case.
