Weil Eye Care Medical Center

I had this rather large (and unsightly) red spot on my eye that I ignored thinking it would go away on its own. After a month, it was really becoming quite alarming so I finally went to see my primary care doctor about it and she referred me to Dr. Weil. When I tried to make the appointment initially I was told that she was booked, but after describing my situation and my concerns, they squeezed me in and Dr. Weil saw me right away.
Dr. Weil had great bedside manner and made me feel at ease. She patiently answered my many questions and after a thorough examination, she was able to diagnose the problem and prescribed a treatment plan of eye drops that cleared the spot up over the course of several weeks. After the treatment plan, I also went in for a follow-​up visit with Dr. Weil.
Every interaction I had with this practice was excellent. I found the front desk staff to be professional and courteous, and Dr. Weil herself was extremely knowledgeable and pleasant. As for billing and insurance, I’ve had no issues and only had to pay my copay at the time of the visits.
By the way, quick PSA: Wear your sun glasses! Turns out the red spot I had occurs when there is excessive exposure to UV rays.

This should be Zero star. The whole staff is incompetent and rude. Go there at your own risk. 2 and a half years after treatment we received a invoice from them saying that we owed $ 600. We asked what it was for? She could tell us? We asked why did the insurance deny it? They couldn’t provide any of the paper work so that we could go back to the insurance company from 2.5 years prior. We’ve had used 2 other insurance company since then. They never told us that these procedures were not covered and then cannot provide us the paperwork to go back to the insurance.
They are very unprofessional and dishonest and you never know when you will receive a surprise bill in the mail.
They are crooks, con, scammers and dishonest so just imagine what the patient care is like.

Warning… don’t go here unless you want sky high bills — vision and medical!
They don’t tell you when you pick out your frames about «lens options», they just tack on all the options they can and for me, the options totaled $ 259.00. Also, if you complain about any eye issues, dry eye, red eye, the doctor will do a «medical exam» and I guess that’s not to be confused with the «vision exam» and therefore, will bill your medical insurance without you knowing. My bill for just the «medical exam» and «lab work» was $ 324.06 on top of my whopping vision exam and glasses bill of $ 1,146.54 for someone who has ²⁰⁄₂₀ vision and only wanted glasses for computer /​reading eye strain, this is ridiculous. Letting my insurance company deal with this one.

I was visiting San Francisco on business as a speaker at a conference. Two days before my presentation, my 2 year old son accidentally poked me in the eye. I woke up the next day and it was swollen shut. I went to an immediate care clinic, which referred me to Dr. Weil. She was able to get me in that very day. She was kind and caring and genuinely concerned about my impending presentation. She fitted me with a bandage type contact to cover the scratch on my cornea. She also made sure I had antibiotic drops and anti-​inflammatory drops. The next day, after my successful presentation (thanks Dr. Weil!), she removed the contact and rechecked my eye. And she suggested a wonderful place called Half Moon Bay for dinner and gave me her cell phone number in case my eye got worse. Her cell phone number! As if that wasn’t enough incredible customer service, she then called me the next day (a Saturday) to make sure I was doing okay. If I lived in San Francisco, she would be the only eye doctor I would ever go to. Thank you so very much for your help, Dr. Weil!

I have been going to Dr. Weil for years and have complete confidence in her. She is extremely thorough as well as caring.
Her staff is friendly and Kiki who fitted me with new glasses is adorable.

I found Dr Weil and her staff by a lucky accident. I was looking for a new botox treatment center on a Friday afternoon! No only is she good at botox and filler, her pricing is amazing. And she is nice! I was so taken back by how warm and friendly the staff treated me. They also looked up my insurance and confirmed I am ready for new glasses with my carrier. And Kiki spend time helping me find frames that looked so good on my face i can not WAIT to go in for my exam and get my new glasses. I will ALWAYS go to Weil Eyecare Medical Center and recommend them to anyone and everyone! These guys are the best.

Went to see Dr. Weil when I had a serious problem with my left eye. I was referred to Weil Eyecare from another Ophthalmologist as they were on vacation and Dr. Weil was the on-​call doctor. I was so glad that this situation brought me to Dr. Weil as she was A+ with her knowledge and expertise. Dr. Weil was very patient and explained everything in great detail. I was in her office for several hours getting treatment and I never felt rushed or bothered. The staff was very nice and friendly. Their scheduling is very well organized and I really like the reminder calls for my next appointment.
I highly recommend Dr. Weil especially if you are having complex or serious problems with your eyes. After seeing 2 doctor’s prior, Dr Weil was the only one that was able to identify and treat my eye properly. What a relief as I am seeing again! I will definitely see her again.

Dr. Weil is thorough, patient and has a wonderful manner. I have seen her for my general eye care and had a unique situation that she was able to treat — and she did thoroughly.

Dr. Weil is a unique professional. I came to her after seeing 2 other eye docs who did nothing for me. Finally was diagnosed with dry eye syndrome and Meibomian gland disease. Dr. Weil has worked nothing short of a miracle to get my eyes more healthy! She is supportive, caring and knowledgeable, especially since I came to her with eyes in pretty bad condition. Her staff are friendly, helpful and low-​key. I feel like I am getting the best eye care in the Bay Area.

Dr. Weil is great. She’s made accommodations to see me on short notice several times. I recommend her if you have vision issues.

I had a concern with floaters and possible detached retina. Dr Weil checked me out and explained the possibilities. She was calm and reassuring and told to revisit or call if I had the slightest concern about my vision.

Let me start by saying that I like Dr. Weil, smart, thorough, knowledgable. My kids and husband all went to her and were satisfied. Glasses were nice, good selection of frames, would work with vsp etc
However, we will not be going back, and this is why…
In December, I developed headaches and dizziness. I was being run through medical tests. My vision was ‘funny’ and these sudden changes in vision came on very quickly. it occurred to me that I should really see dr. Weil to rule out any vision problems. I told the receptionist my problem, she pulled up her schedule and said, «dr. Weil can see you next Monday». Perhaps she didn’t understand my concern. I felt that something serious could be wrong. «well you should have called earlier». It was in 2:00 in the afternoon. No offer to talk to the doctor and call me back, just chastising me for the time I placed the call. I called up another doctor in town and he saw me within the hour. He ruled out vision problems.
I expect the front office to bring patients concerns directly to the doctor. Can’t trust my son or my eyes to the person who answered the phone.

I have been seeing Dr. Weil as my primary ophthalmologist and optometrist for over ten years. In fact, I now drive all the way from Oakland to San Carlos so I can continue to be treated by Dr. Leslie Weil even though i no longer live in Hillsborough. The office of Dr. Weil in San Carlos is located on a great street (Laurel) with easy parking and other stores nearby so I often end up shopping and/​or eating lunch before or dinner after my appointment.
Her office looks newly remodeled, and the waiting room is inviting and comfortable. But i don’t usually spend much time time there since Dr. Weil does her best to see me quickly. This week, I had an urgent situation concerning my vision. I was able to explain my concerns (reaching her by telephone call after hours). The next day, i received a telephone call from her office advising me that they had an appointment for me to see Dr. Weil that morning.
I continue to shelp to San Carlos because Dr. Weil is a very nice person and is extremely thorough in her examinations and consideration of the various problems i have, including extreme myopia and dry eyes. Since she also has an optician on staff, i use her office to fit my glasses and contacts too. Her office assistants have been efficient and the cost of services and glasses have always been reasonable considering I have to pay my optimetric costs out of pocket since i have no vision insurance.

Dr Weil, ophthalmologist, Kiki optometrist were both great. Thorough and patient, since I haven’t had a lot of experience with glasses (middle age caught up with me!). Good location, easy parking.

If I could give them zero stars, I would.
I work on a multi-​monitor computer system all day and wanted glasses to make the task easier. I went in to Dr. Weil’s office several months ago and asked for «computer glasses».
We went through the standard eye exam and Dr. Weil wrote the prescription. She suggested that I put a reading prescription at the bottom of these lenses so that I could glance down to read papers and documents as necessary. So far, so good.
The first pair of glasses came back as full progressives, i.e. near, medium and far. «Oops, sorry about that.»
The second pair of glasses came back with the computer portion about 40% and the reading portion about 60% of the lenses. This caused me to continually move my head about in order to see all of my monitor surfaces. «Oh, you want more computer vision?»
The third pair of glasses came back at about 50/​50, reading versus computer. Not much of an improvement.
Up to now I had been dealing with the optometrist so we both decided we needed to see the Doctor again. This time we decided on no reading portion at all.
The fourth pair of glasses came back with a prescription for someone else, but certainly not for me. Blurry and distorted at any distance. «But how could that happen???»
Now each of these attempts has been a multi-​week affair so I am now months into the process (not to mention dollars) and at this point I told them to just go back to the previous ⁵⁰⁄₅₀ lenses that were still laying about and I’ll give up on trying to get just computer glasses. «Oh, that’s just a day or two’s effort».
Weeks later my «glasses are ready». Uh-​oh, they simply redid or replaced the blurry glasses. «But you said to redo the new prescription.» Not! OK, back to just trying to put back the ⁵⁰⁄₅₀ lenses.
Two more attempts and they finally managed to get the ⁵⁰⁄₅₀ lenses back into the frames. And they’re getting testy about all of this!
So, 6 months or so later and several hundred dollars out of pocket I have glasses that sort of do some of what I need.
It was a truly unpleasant experience.

Receptionists are very rude over the phone. Instead of simply telling me my glasses were not ready, she gave me a long speech about how they take a «minimum of 2 weeks and there is no way they are ready now, etcetc» whereas I was told something different when I ordered them.
I went in and picked out my own glasses as there was no one there to help me, and when I came in to pick them up, Kiki was friendly but didn’t do a very good job of adjusting them to my face. I’ve had to visit another shop to get them adjusted since then.
Their advertised «extended» hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays really just means an extra hour until 6pm on the first Tuesday of each month, making it virtually impossible for the typical 9 – 5, M-​F office worker to get in there with any degree of convenience.
I also left my cell phone number to call for pick-​up and specifically requested them to call this number as I am frequently away from my desk. They instead called a work number that I had called them from once before and I did not get the message until the next day which caused me to miss the one day they were open «late».

I went to Dr Weil’s office for 2 eye exams, glasses and contacts. Dr Weil is ok. She is a bit pushy and arrogant, but she does her job «ok». The optometrist is also ok. She is nice, and tries to structure the purchases to get you the most out of your insurance coverage (which is also to her benefit).
However, the staff is rude and incompetent. The claimed that my exam/​prescription had expired by law, when in actual there is NO law specifying expiration of *glasses” prescriptions (there is for contacts). It is simply a practice *created* by the eye industry to make people pay for more examinations. When i pointed this out to them, they finally agreed to send me the prescription, but only after i faxed to them some type of liability form. The form was actually for them to be able to send the prescription to other offices, and they hacked it up for my request. That said, i filled out and sent it back to them, and they still did NOT send me my prescription. STAY AWAY.

Based on complaints about my review and repeated attempts to have it removed, here is a modified version so that the public can continue to be aware of my experiences with Dr Weil:
Dr Weil talked me into getting tear duct plugs to keep my eyes moister throughout the day (I wear contacts) and told me that they could be easily removed if they caused me problems (i.e., excessive tearing). Based on the information that I have received from 4 eye doctors that I have since visited to try to get the item removed because it causes tears to continuously run down my face, I am told that I need surgery to have it removed. Thus, it is not at all easy to remove, as I was told.
She also accidentally put acid in my eyes during one visit when she used the wrong contact solution during my exam. My eyes burned for days.
I am no longer a patient of Dr Weil’s and would never use her services again.

I have been putting off glasses (and the eye exam that I knew would reveal I need them) for about 2 years. If I had known how much fun I was going to have at Dr Weil’s center in San Carlos, I probably would have gotten in sooner. Dr. Weil and her staff made buying a pair of glasses (and joining the ranks of those doomed to eye-​ware) a very positive experience.
The eye exam was thorough but went by quickly, and Kiki (in the attached boutique) helped me pick out an awesome pair of glasses by making recommendations based on my skin tone, face shape, and eye size. I liked that the entire staff (on top of being extremely nice and helpful) had awesome glasses that looked great on them — definitely helped me feel like I could get glasses and not look like a dork.
The other thing worth mentioning here is that Dr. Weil’s establishment is super clean and well-​lit. I think that is very important when someone is dealing with your eyes.

I had a recurring eye problem which had been checked by other doctors and ophthalmologists. Dr. Weil was the only one to properly diagnose the problem. I loved that she took the time to do several tests and recommended a couple follow-​up visits to ensure that the medication worked.
Her staff was very kind and accommodating. I especially like the personalized service-​something I did not feel at Lens Crafter!
