Received a quick and nice service from Long. Best service I’ve had from a smog check station. Highly recommended.

I drove in without an appointment, but I suggest calling ahead. The test was quick (15 minutes), the price was $ 45, and interacting with the technician was a pleasure.

I called in ahead of time and one of the techs quoted me a lower rate than some of his competitors. I asked how long the wait would be and he said just 15 – 20 minutes since they weren’t that busy.
LOCATION: this place is not easily visible from the main Balboa Avenue. It’s tucked away all the way in the back. Try to slow down and look out for the 7 stars sign and turn into the driveway.
SERVICE: when I went in another tech said it would cost a little more, but when I told him the amount I was quoted over the phone, he honored it.
As soon as I sat down to fill out the paperwork and check out some of their Vietnamese décor on the walls, I was told my car was done! The tech said my car is in great shape and I was glad to hear it passed with flying colors!
Great value and service, I would definitely return! Beware one of the techs has a pretty harsh accent, so you may have a little trouble understanding him.

This place was great! I used the coupon from their website, felt like I got a good deal. The employee that helped me was very courteous (offered to carry my diaper bag back to the car for me since I had my hands full with the baby). In total I was only in the shop for about 15 minutes. Would definitely recommend!

I went to 7 Stars twice. I failed smog the first time and went back after I fixed my catalytic converter for my free retest (they allow one free retest.) Both times the (same) guy took at least an hour on my car and seemed kind of bumbling.
After I failed the first time, I asked the guy what he thought might be wrong, whether he had any advice or even a recommendation for a mechanic to look at the issue – just anything. He pretty much waved me off and told me he just works there and didn’t know anything. It seemed like he did not really care to help, which I suspect was mostly due to a language barrier.
I went and got my catalytic converter replaced and went back and had the same guy rerun my test. I passed the section I failed before, but weirdly enough I failed for something that I passed on the first test. I don’t know how well he did the test as in the middle of checking my car he started working on someone else’s car and it seemed his attention was divided. After I failed again, the guy said he thought maybe my car wasn’t warmed up enough, which was a little weird since I drove the same distance the first and second time (from my apartment).
I went somewhere else my third time (I didn’t take my car to a mechanic or anything, just drove my car a bit more before the test) and passed easily (and the guy only took 10 – 15 minutes). The guy who checked my car the third time looked at my paperwork from 7 Stars and thought that the reads were really unusual and suggested that it was more likely that something was wrong with the guy’s machine rather than a warm-​up issue.
In the end, I don’t know if I failed the second time because the machines were wrong or because I just needed to warm up since I warmed up a lot more the third time. But I do know that every time I went the process took at least an hour from the start of the test to the end, which makes this me not recommend this place. I know that there are two certified testers there (saw their paperwork on the wall, but I only saw the one guy), so maybe the other guy will be faster if you’re lucky enough to get him.

I want to add an update to my first review, since I feel that’s only fair. I was contacted by the owner of the business and he apologized for what happened to me. I believe he is a good and fair business man, who does care about each of his customers. And I wouldn’t hesitate to return to his shop in the future to have my car serviced there.

Do not take your car here. The usual owner wasn’t here and only his assistant. His assistant is incompetent and has to call someone for every little step. When they finally got the car onto the dyno, he grinded through all my gears like he’s never driven before. STAY AWAY IF YOU HAVE A MANUAL CAR.

I have been taking my cars (4 cars) here for 5 years now. Not the nicest place interior wise but best service, best price and you can go to hinotez while you wait.

Honest guy. Gives free re-​tests. After Convoy Smog decided to close early on me, when I needed my non-​free re-​test, I decided to go to 7 Star Smog and just pay for a whole new test. It was worth it because I got my smog done and didn’t have to wait another day to go back to Convoy Smog and pay them for a re-​test.

Wow! I came here for my first ever smog check and the man with cool long hair helped me. He was super nice and gave me a lot of helpful advice for my aging corolla. The smog check took 5 minutes. FIVE. I timed him since my friend recommended this place and said they are cheap and fast lol: P. $ 45 for five mins of smog check and they send the certificate to the DMV, he was helpful and told me when the certificate should arrive to them and recommended that I get spark plugs for my car.
My trip there was fast and painless and I was done in less than a total of 15 minutes. :). This will be my go-​to place for smog checks

Reasonable pricing and fast service makes for 4 stars, +1 for the candy in the waiting area :)

Definitely recommend this place. Very friendly service. I came here after going to another smog place where the guy ran a smog test even though I had a check engine light on. The other place was soo rude that I refused to go back. 7 Stars is honest and friendly. They made sure my car was ready to get smogged again after I had the repairs completed. Plus they do a free re-​test within 30 days if your car doesn’t pass the first time (the other place didn’t do that). Go here if you need a smog!

As a woman walking into this place they treated me honestly. My Dad had always fixed my cars but he is no longer here so I was forced to ask them about my starter that seemed to be sticking. I was able to clean it out myself and it seemed to be working but I stopped by anyway. They told me that if it started to give me trouble again to come back and they’d help me. They even told me how much it would be if I needed to have it done but didn’t start filling me with words to scare me into spending money that I really did not have. I felt they were honest, personable and if I have any other issues I’m definitely going to them immediately! Check them out.

What a nice man! I called, he told me I didn’t need an appointment. Found this shop on Google maps as a place near my work. They had the best ratings so I chose this shop. The place was clean, always my first clue to how things will be run. My test took less than 15 minuntes. He even checked my tire pressure and told me how that would effect my gas mileage and my emissions! He let me know about how long it would be to receive my sticker in the mail. All with a smile.
I wish all transactions in my life were this pleasent. Thank you so much for such great service!

I brought my 92 Lexus in for a smog check. I was a little worried because the place I went before on Clairemont Drive (no longer there) said that I almost did not pass, but the last time I had it tested my car sat over 6 month the tires where low and gas and oil where old.
So I brought my car in to 7 Stars after changing the oil and making sure the tires where the proper pressure and putting in new gas. It was very easy to find the shop. I was the first one there at 9 on a Saturday and Luc was right on time. The place was clean and he performed the test and I was out in no time and I was happy to get this off my list. I would defiantly recommend to friends and family or anyone.
