Barbara Denysiak, MD

I should have looked at Unilocal before selecting her as my PCP. My compliant is about her listening skills as a doctor and her staff. I plan to switch PCPs once my insurance allows.
Dr. Barbara Denysiak has horrible listening skills. When I first met with her, I shared that my husband and I wanted to start trying for a baby. She nodded yes, so I thought she heard me. But her immediate next step was to ask me what birth control I was taking and then proceeded to fill out a prescription for more birth control.
Her staff are inexperienced. For my first appointment, they said my appointment was at 9am but to come 30 minutes earlier to do paperwork. So I came in at 8:30am, only to realize that they really booked my appointment at 9:30am; they had meant to tell me to come in at 9 but got confused. I should have just arrived at 9:30 because I didn’t see the doctor until 10:15am anyway. Then on a separate occasion, I called requesting that they fax some lab results to a specialist I am seeing. Before getting any of my info, they put me on hold for 10minutes without reason, probably to ask if it’s okay to fax patient’s lab results requested by the patient? Anyhow, after spelling out my first and last name, the staff member got them mixed up at the end, and I’m doubtful that the lab results will get where they need to go.
Overall: DO NOT GO TO THIS DOCTOR! Unless of course, you are motivated to stay healthy so you can stay away from her and her staff.

I’m not sure what the low ratings are all about. I’ve been going to Dr. Denysiak for the last 15 years. She is kind and efficient and constantly looking for the best way to take care of her patients. Her staff has always treated me kindly. Honesty, I’m impressed that she maintains such a high level of care and compassion with such a demanding job. My wait times have always been reasonable. I’ve felt very supported by her in whatever I needed and she’s super fast and very gentle in doing a pap smear.
While I’ve had the good fortune to be pretty darn healthy, I have a friend who was extremely ill and under Dr. Denysiak’s care. I was impressed with how many off hour urgent calls the doctor made time for.

Whoa! Terrible Doctor! I thought she was nice at first and read her reviews and thought I lucked out because so far so good but man, that turned quickly.
I’m a navy wife and we are fixing to go overseas. The navy gave me a checklist of things I need to get done by my primary care doctor before they screen me. I bring her the checklist and she sends me to get blood work. They also need results of pap, proof of women wellness or physical and immunizations. So I get this blood work after she says we need to see what I already have so I don’t get double shots. She calls me back to talk about it but doesn’t really do so. Just said she’ll make me a copy and I have everything. Really? I don’t remember ever getting shots so I find it hard to believe I already have all the shots they are asking. She said no no. I have it. She even said I don’t need 1 of the shots and the navy must’ve made a mistake with putting it on the list.
So I go and take it to NTC, they said I also need the woman wellness stuff. I called to ask them to fax it to my work around 9 am. I called for that and the receptionist was like «what do you mean? Do you need like, notes or something?» … Around 3pm I still hadn’t gotten anything. I called back and they forgot so they finally do. She fax over a white unofficial piece of paper that said «received woman wellness. Temp normal. Results normal… Etc» the screening lady was embarrassed for her.
Also! When I get to the screening, I needed ALL the shots!!! She just gave me lab work to tell the navy to give me the shots. They weren’t too happy as these are things I needed to get done before but luckily someone did. And I told them about the «mistake» she claims they made on the checklist… Whoa. She’s not NTCs favorite.

I needed a female doctor near my place, and had to pick someone for my HMO, so I picked her. Big mistake.
I went in for a TB test, immunization and a drug test for work, nothing big. I waited 45 min to be seen. All of her nursing assistants seem like the have just barely graduated and her office is dingy.
I met with her and explained what I needed and also told her I needed a RX refill for my migraine medication. She told me I didn’t suffer from migraines, I needed anti depressants. She went into her office and gave me a 2-​month supply of sample pills with no explanation of what they were (she never even did an exam on me or looked at past records. I have no idea how she made this determination… Just a pill pusher I think)
Also, she tells me… Your migraine meds combined with the anti depressant can make you sick… But it doesn’t affect everyone… If you get a migraine you «should» be ok to take it… (Wtf??)
I came back 48 hours later to get my TB and blood results read for my immunizations. I was charged another $ 30 co-​pay for this. I argued with them stating this was a follow-​up for results but they forced me to pay the $ 30 before I could get them because there was an «issue to discuss» :/​I would have left but I needed the TB read for work. Turns out the «issue» was NOTHING. She met with me for 5 min to tell me everything was fine except one number was a slightly elevated. I will be following up with my insurance company about this. I have never been charged a co pay for a follow up.
STAY AWAY!!! I wish I would have listened to all of the other Unilocal reviews instead of going to her out of desperation for my TB test. You will be way better off going somewhere else. Seriously… Stay away!!!

Very frustrating in trying to correct the wrong billing for my annual lab work. Tried several times with multiple emails! Still not getting any corrections. I only went there once, and should have looked at the reviews. Dr. was covered by my insurance and the company seems to change every year. Dr. herself seemed ok. Office was not great.

Honestly I’m not quite sure why this office has such low ratings. I’ve been going to Dr. Denysiak for a few year now and have never had a bad experience.
I wouldn’t give a full five stars because this office definitely isn’t the best I have been to. But all of the staff have been very courteous and the doctor is always very kind and attentive.
Lately they finally got a machine to run credit/​debit cards. Although there is a 10% charge added for the usage.
A few things that could be changed are mainly facility related. The office is outdated and the walls are really thin and you can here murmurs or clear conversations at times. In general it looks like everything needs to be updated and looking sterile like a hospital would.
Parking is also kind of an issue but the meters aren’t that much and the garage below doesn’t cost a whole lot.
Overall I like Dr. Denysiak and would recommend going to her.

This doctor is the absolute worst. Do not make an appointment here. If I could give zero I would. The office is incompetent and I feel that my overall health has suffered as a result. I will be changing doctors ASAP. Here’s just 2 prime examples of incompetence. I called on a Wednesday because I had an infection. I was told the doctor would not be able to see me for a week. I then called my OB/​GYN who stated they were «appalled» that I was not seen right away as delaying treatment could have led to kidney failure. Needless to say I was rushed into their office for treatment. To add insult to injury, I scheduled an appointment 3 weeks ok and when I arrived today, I was made to wait 30 minutes before someone finally told me that Dr. Denysiak was not in the office today and I could not be seen. This is ridiculous and will not be tolerated. I am submitting an official complaint to he medical board and to my health insurance. Stay away from this office!!!

If I could rate this Dr. and the office a ZERO I would have. I had recently changed to this Dr. by making the appropriate phone call the my insurance agency, waiting patiently for the new insurance card and then receiving the card. Once it was in my hot little hand I called to make an appointment due to a severe rib pain I had been experiencing. They were unable to see me for over 3 weeks. In the interim I went to urgent care for x-​rays and blood work. Still, under the same pain I went to my scheduled appointment the 3 weeks later to be seen. Once I arrived, they had no record of me as a patient and had me listed under my old Dr.?! Ummmmm did I not call the insurance, make the change, wait for the card, make the appointment, wait the 3 weeks and come in hand with the insurance card with THE DR.‘S NAME ON IT!!! Where am I? Narnia??? Needless to say after I made a stink and told them to call the insurance company back somehow, second time around they knew who the hell I was.
CHANGED DR. THAT DAY. Don’t waste your time with a bunch of incompetent people.

I like Dr. Denysiak but her receptionist is the absolute worst in the world. Don’t expect to call there asking for a prescription refill or getting a question answered, because it really isn’t worth the complete aggravation. She doesn’t listen, doesn’t understand basic questions, like «when is the Dr. available for a phone call», or just provides inaccurate outdated responses to issues such as getting blood work ordered.
Honestly, i feel my blood pressure going up just at the thought of having to call the office.

If I could give zero stars I would. I am absolutely blown away by the lack of professionalism at this office. It’s filthy, extremely hot, I waited an hour to see Dr. Denysiak and paid much more than I should have for my copay. It’s cash or check only for copay and you have to pay for parking, no receipts given.
Now on to the crazy part… I went in to get a mild .5 mg perception for xanex for when I fly. She made me fill out a questionnaire about how I feel when I get anxious on flights and then had me fill out a depression questionnaire saying the two go hand in hand and I am fully aware that they do. First, she agreed and said I have severe anxiety but definitely do not have signs of depression. I explained to her that I do not need xanex everyday or every week for that matter… just a small dose when I travel. I fly about 3 times a month so I would need about 8 pills a month. I guess that was too much! She said that she doesn’t want me to become addicted and DIE like Whitney Houston and Michael Jackson (No joke).
I laughed (out of pure shock) and said «that’s a little extreme» and she said she will refer me to a specialist for an antidepressant and I said «wait, I thought you said I don’t need antidepressants? This is getting confusing, I just need something for when I fly.» She said NO and got up and walked out of the room! MIND=BLOWN. I will never go back and hope no one else wastes their time or money with this crazy woman.

Today was my first visit to Dr. Denysiak. I don’t see what all the negative fuss is about.
When I called to make my appointment it was about two weeks out — no worries, she’s a busy doctor and has a lot of patients. Good sign in my book.
This morning I showed up about 35 minutes before my appointment — I knew there would plenty of paperwork to fill out. It turns out my appointment was at 9:30, not 9 but the receiptionist was nice about my mistake and said that I may just get in earlier then, which I did. So awesome!
The nurse was very bubbly and friendly, chatting me up the whole time and explained my hight, weight, blood pressure and pulse to me.
Once Dr. Denysiak was in the room she was friendly, to the point and didn’t waste any time — much appreciated as I have a job I have to get to! My pap was painless and fast and she explained that no news was good news (they only call if there is an abnormality) but if I liked I could call the office in 5 business days and get my results.
Overall a great visit and I’m sure I’ll be back.

**STAY AWAY FROM THIS DOCTOR AND THIS OFFICE.**
Working with this doctor/​office has been the worst experience I’ve ever had in the healthcare community. And I’ve had a spinal cord injury going on 10 years now (read: I’ve been in and out of various doctors offices a LOT, sometimes 3x’s a week for a whole year), so that’s saying something.
The short version: My insurance changed. I called ahead to make sure one of my specialists was still within my network and was informed they were but I would need a new referral. My primary care physician however, was not, so I would need to find a new primary care doc within the network who would then write me a referral for the specialist who I had already been seeing for 8 years. I called and made an appointment at Denysiak’s office, explaining all of this. They set it up. When I got there there was some hold up on insurance and I had to call them to let them know about my appointment («Someone should have explained this to you on the phone when you made the appointment, I’m sorry.») An hour after my scheduled appointment I finally got in, no thanks to anyone at the front desk (who all seemed to have no idea what was going on).
I probably had to explain to 3 or 4 different people in the office why I was there. That’s one hell of a communication break-​down if you ask me. I left with a new prescription and supposedly a referral to my specialist.
Cut to two weeks ago when I stop by my specialists office to get a prescription called in and set up an appointment and they let me know that I’ll need a referral. I let them know I already took care of that but I’ll check with the doctor’s office to make sure it went through. They’re in the same building so I go over there on my way out, explain, and at the front they say yes, we have a record of that referral, here’s a copy.
Earlier today I get a call from my specialists office basically saying «Hey, you have an appointment next week and we still haven’t received a referral…» They event went to the liberty of calling my insurance to find out what the hold up was (THERE’S an office that goes above and beyond) and they were informed that the referral I had expired, and was written for a different doctor. I called Denysiaks office explaining things and got shuffled around to three different people, one of which who tried to say «Oh this guy is an excellent doctor…» and «we can’t write a referall without seeing you first and evaluating… yadda yadda yadda» I admit at this point I was fed up and quite blunt, but I simply said, «I asked for a specific referral. I’ve been seeing this doctor for years and I’m not interested in seeing someone else. I’ve already been in to your office, I came in in December SPECIFICALLY to get this referral.» In the end, Dr. Denysiak came on the line, speaking too fast for her accent, mumbling about «I know the system is difficult to navigate and we don’t always have the right information…» and I just had to ask «Will you be able to get me this referral or do I need to find a new doctor?»
My specialist and my insurance company both said it shouldn’t be a problem…
Needless to say, I’m on the hunt for a new Doctor. I guess my short version turned out to be not so short, but hopefully someone reads this and it saves them some grief…

I cannot understand why any doctors office is allowed to be run this way. You will feel sick after your experience, even if you are well.

I have been a patient here for years. This place was close to me until I moved and if she was still in my new «provider network» I would have continued with her. Dr. is super nice. She always listens to me and what I need. She is very accommodating. Doc really took time with me. She was a bright spot in my life when I was struggling with depression. She medicated me but also took an approach by referring me to a very nice psychiatrist. The Nurse/​Sabina (i think that’s her name) is awesome! The Nurse was always very helpful and smiling. The only thing bad I can say about this place is the Receptionist. The friendly receptionist left a few years ago. Since then they have had 2 (that I know of).both snarky and rude. This place could use a modern touch ie email correspondence, and some organization.

This was by far THE WORST health care experience of my life. Will never return and am filing a grievance with my insurance. A prison clinic would be better than this place, because at least there your punishment is free!
Office/​First impression:
Dingy, dirty, disorganized, paperwork stacked everywhere, snotty receptionist, long wait (45 mins +), and no privacy. They have a parking lot but do not validate, so best put two hours in your meter. The staff asked me what my prescription was in earshot of many other patients. Highly unprofessional! The sad, decrepit feeling of the place does not call to mind «health» and «well-​being.» Felt very Soviet.
Staff:
Receptionist (early 20s, Asian) has the customer service skills of a red hot fire poker. She is either so overworked, or so under-​trained, that she doesn’t have the capacity to be helpful or kind in her current role. She speaks to patients with utter disdain, which I both overheard, and felt the wrath of personally. She needs to find a new line of work far away from the healthcare field because she seems to be incapable of caring.
Nurse (20s-​30s long dark hair) was the only bright spot in the place. I wanted to save her from the hell that must be her daily working life. She was nice and professional.
Doctor:
On my first visit, an annual check-​up, I was told I could not ask the Doctor about my lingering cough at the appointment. I would need to reschedule. What?! That was a first. Doctor D. then rushed my appointment, wanted to sell me on a name-​brand upgrade to my generic prescription, and generally did not seem to care about my input. She was pleasant, but the issues with the rest of the practice make me question her competency.
Follow-​Up:
Second visit was to follow-​up on blood work, and she said all was fine, but when I asked to see a copy, there were several areas of concern!!! They also will not send follow-​up letters with results from PAP exams. Every doctor in my life has done so, even if all was normal and good. The receptionist said they just «file it» if all is good, and when I requested a copy sent to me, she refused.
Doctor also said she would call in a prescription for me and after waiting four days and two trips to the pharmacy, that did not happen. When I called the office, the receptionist spoke to me like I was a complete idiot and lectured me about how busy she was! She was unwilling to look into the matter, and told me to call back when I «knew what I was talking about because she didn’t have time to look at my records.»
Horribly run practice! There are plenty of other so-​so doctors. Go elsewhere!

Horrible customer service!

I don’t know why everyone is complaining so much about normal things. Having to wait in a doctor’s office?! Shocker! I went there twice, once for irregular menstrual cycle and once for a follow-​up and bladder issues. For the first, she gave me a preg test to make sure that wasn’t it, then also gave me some blood tests for coagulation issues. She was very thorough. Also, I had an ultrasound done just to double check for cysts and such. For my follow-​up, she sat down in the chair next to me and went over exactly what my test results meant and made sure I didn’t have any questions. I then told her about my bladder issues and she gave me a test for that as well. They determined there didn’t seem to be an infection that they could see. After a day or so I got a voicemail from the doctor herself saying they did find an infection and she was calling in a prescription for me to my home pharmacy. I think she’s one of the best gps I’ve had this far and would recommend her for sure.
You are right about the parking though, it kind of sucks to pay to park but then again it is only $ 3.

Does anyone else find it odd that of the 8 good reviews Dr. Denysiak received, 7 of them were all written on the same day. hummmmm…
Don’t go to this woman.
