We stopped using CMRVH after it became apparent they’re more concerned with up sell then the pets. Every time we went there, even if it was just for a routine check up they would try to sell us everything possible. I honestly believe the staff is trained to sell, sell, sell. They made us feel guilty for not buying things. The next time you go, take notice of their tricky up sell tactics. We’re now with Poway Midland Animal Clinic and we’re so happy. No more sales pressure and the staff is great. Also, they have a huge parking lot so no more trying to find a space over at that zoo of a parking area.

We’ve been seeing Dr. Grey for three years for our two French Bulldogs. We can’t say enough about her and the care she’s provided our fur babies. So thankful to have found a vet we trust and the care is worth every penny spent!

They were able to fit us in on a Friday evening to have our 11 year old Labrador’s eye checked out.
The parking was easy — even on a Friday night!
The front office was extremely pleasant to sit in. No lingering smells, no dry and stuffy office setting. It was very comfortable and they even had a computer terminal & desk area set up if you needed to do some work. I believe it’s free wi-​fi :)
Another cool thing about sitting in the front office: while we waited was that I saw technicians cleaning off door handles & making sure the room where the last animal was seen was efficiently wiped down before the next guest. I appreciated seeing that.
When we were seen — it was a straight forward and mindful conversation with both the technician, as well as the Dr’s we saw. I walked away with a feeling of honesty in suggested treatment, education about the affliction our dog was facing, conservative pricing and an overall excellent experience. We were also given options as for as strategy on how to best treat our animal.
Their communications were clear, they answered all our questions — and were up to speed in the world, as in: they can email you all the specifics of your visit.
We would 100% use this vet again. It’s in a great location, they’re great people and I appreciated the way they treated my family.

We recently moved into the neighborhood and rather than trek back to Mira Mesa, we found this little gem in our neighborhood. They also offer boarding services, which is a relief when we can’t find someone to watch our little guy. The couple of check ups we have had here (fortunately very minor), have been terrific. The vet tech and doc have been friendly and attentive. Thumbs up on the couple of boarding appts we have had here as well. Our pup always comes home happy and with a new scarf. Only area of improvement: they don’t open on Sundays, so you can’t pick up your pup from boarding. But, they open bright and early on Mon at 7am, so you can roll by right before work.

I have been going to CMRVH for 15 years. They have been caring for my 15-​year-​old corgi, Sadie, since the day I got her. Dr. Grey and her incredible staff have always gone to great lengths to show me their dedicated interest in Sadie’s health and well-​being. Whether it’s the procedure, boarding, or bath, I always know Sadie will be in good hands.

Love this place! The staff is always accommodating and truly cares about all the animals… they get that pets are family. We have 2 labs (Zoey & Maya) which can get very expensive very quickly & I never feel pressured or guilted into to spending unnecessary money. They are awesome! Thank you to everyone that works there, especially Dr. Gray, for caring about our kids the way we do!

We took our 4 yr lab mix for a check up and shots at the office. My poor nervous dog was rowdy, scared and growling at first. The techs and Vet were so calm and patient with him even though he wasn’t at his best. They took great care of him and explained all services, tests and vaccines that were recommended. We are so happy to have found a great vet so close to home!

We couldn’t be happier with the veterinary care and the staff at Carmel Mountain Ranch Veterinary Hospital. We’ve had some unusual medical situations over the years, and we need to feel comfortable and confident in the care we receive, but then who doesn’t? We’re also kinda picky. Dr. Grey is excellent and her staff have been wonderful with all our pets — no matter the situation. We feel fortunate to have found Dr. Grey and this hospital. The staff is pleasant, respectful, helpful, and considerate, as well as skilled and knowledgable. We couldn’t ask for more.

The first time I went into this office I had to put down my 9 year old English budgie. The second time I went into this office, not even a week later, I was bringing in my sick 12 year old budgie because it looked like she was fading fast. As a new client, the folks here were very accommodating, kind, and especially warm
So, first visit. Nicky, 9 years old. He had a tumor that he was really struggling with and Kayla was very nice, very kind, the type of caring person who belongs in this field. Big Nick was a really cool guy. I just wish this office had seen him in his prime. My other budgie, the 12 (yes, 12) year old Chloe, fell ill a day or two later. She was puffed up, closing her eyes, and had lost a lot of weight. Her average weight is about 39, but she was down to 31.5, which is alarming for a creature of her size. Felicia was very accommodating in getting Chloe in at the soonest possible time. Again, brand new client and I feel she went above and beyond to get Chloe in.
Dr. Grey knows her stuff. We were expecting a tumor to be found but much to our surprise, there was nothing obvious there. The theory now is there was some grieving over the loss of Big Nick that coincided with an infection she picked up. Since there was no obvious physical issue we opted to give her some more R & R and just keep an eye on her for a few days. Ever since then she’s been perking back up, showing improvement each and every day. She eats like a madman her weight is back up to 39 or so. We still think there may be something underlying going on inside of her given her age but then again… maybe it was an infection she got over and she was just sad over Nick’s loss.
I look forward to future visits and getting my dog, Jenny, in there. I like this office a lot. Great work all around.

This is the best vet I’ve been too. When we adopted our dog, Bella, from It’s the Pits they recommended this vet to get her microchipped. So we took Bella here to get her microchipped after we adopted her. When we went there it was some of the best customer service I’ve experienced. We weren’t planning on staying with this vet though because it’s over a 30 min drive from where we live. So we took her to another place to get her nails done & a different place then that to get a check up. But it just wasn’t working out anywhere. I don’t know if it’s because she’s a pitbull but it was just awkward. One place we went to didn’t even take Bella in to get her nails done, they just said they couldn’t & she didn’t need it, even thought it was clear she did. So after all the awkward experiences and being turned away we decided that it was worth the drive to take Bella to this vet. They are so welcoming, so helpful & friendly, and they treat all dogs & animals just as special. Best of all, they don’t discriminate that she’s a Pitbull. Now owning our first Pitbull we realize they aren’t accepted everywhere. Because of that we will always come to this vet, even if the drive is over 30 minutes.

I got my son a puppy for Xmas and have been taking him here since we got him. We just got done with the snip & chip yesterday and have made it through the first few months of puppy wellness care. I have been extremely happy with them and the care they provide for him. The girls adore him (it’s hard not to) and the have just been a wealth of knowledge. I also take him there for grooming needs (anal glands, baths, cuts, etc) — which he always returns to me smashingly adorable. They are a little bit more costly than some vets, but then some vets are more costly than CMR Vet Hospital. I think for the service received, the price is acceptable because I receive better service from them than I do for the vet in which I take my cat to and costs more (yes, we’ll be switching) — and lets face it, new puppies are very costly up front as are cats. I love their reminder and follow up system — call and email, which I can confirm via email and add to my calendar. They email me my receipts, I can order his meds online if needed, their hours are awesome. Dr. Gray has been nothing but wonderful, she actually saw my cat when he was younger and before I moved from the state. They offer quality prescription foods and just overall a great operation that has been in the neighborhood for years!

I’ve had a few months to think about my visit. This is not an angry emotional impulse, this is a well reflected and considered review.
The good. They were nice. bout all I can say.
The bad.
Refused to sell me real heart guard. I woke up at 2 am last night as my dog vomited her guts out. I believe it’s the giant «generic» heartguard they sold me. People, it isn’t worth being cheap about the medication you sell. Told i could buy the real stuff from their website. huh? Who is running your website, if you have different meds? Right it might not have been the pill, but, the one they gave me is way too big for a 25 lb dog, and it’s a battle to give it to her. Either way, weird choice not to sell real heart guard.
Everything they tried to sell, they had to work to justify as it was all off brands. They wont sell real medication, then they try to convince you if you buy medication anywhere else it will be a Chinese knock off. which. wait. that. what. they​.sold​.me?
I asked about my dogs teeth, expecting to talk about brushing them.. LONG sales pitch about putting my dog UNDER to have her teeth cleaned?! There’s nothing wrong with her teeth, shes a pup! Just looking to take care of her! This is what happens when you hear dollars, and not the person.
Went in for itching. The vet saw no flees, but sold me flee medication. What? My poor dog has allergies, not flees! Vet also told contradictory information from my research about flees. Scratching of the chest, allergies.
Could barely get the vets attention. Nice lady, but too busy talking to the nurse, talking up selling, and didn’t let me talk at all. I had to force questions as she tried to slip out.
Bad meds and high pressure sales pitches. I’d say 1 star is low, but they caused more problems and didn’t solve the ones I came in with.
All I needed was Real Heartguard and doggy claritin. What a mess.

Amazing staff. Dr. Gray is extremely thorough and attentive! Brought my dog in for an urgent visit and despite warnings on the phone that there might be a wait without an appt, he was seen right away. The nurse was friendly, patient, and informative. They gave my dog a free nail trim because I live far from the office. Their fees are reasonable and they are the only vet ive found to not push over the top treatments/​tests.

This is where I take my bunny to get his teeth trimmed. I must say, it’s the best vet we’ve ever been to. The staff is helpful, just as they need to be, and equally hilarious. Actually, the vet once claimed to have made out with my rabbit. Surprisingly, the receptionist has remembered my name, and my rabbit’s name. There is always a basket filled with candy at the front desk, and believe me, you don’t need to ask before you take one. Sometimes the receptionist will even recommend candy, which can be… wait, I’m getting side tracked. Point is, it’s a fantastic vet with a caring staff.

I love this place! The day I moved to San Diego last year, the very hour I arrived my dog Olivia was attacked by my then new roommates dog. I was freaking out and didn’t know what to do seeing as I had just got into town. The next day my partner suggested this place, she had been taking her pets there for ages. We got there and Dr Grey was amazing. My dog is very shy and scared of most things and she got right on the floor with her and checked her where she was hurt. I was so pleased with the whole visit. I have been going ever since for all her check ups and any little thing.
The staff is always so nice and and the price breakdown is super helpful. They dont push anything she doesn’t need. I had to get this very expensive medicine for her allergies and though I didn’t want to have to go that way, they broke down the price in detail so I knew what I was getting for the money. They ordered it and held onto it until I was able to pay in full. No pressure.
Also, we live very far away (about 30 mins) and every time I go they give her a complimentary nail trip and file. Its great!
Last thing is I love the staff which I stated before but one of the vet techs Alice is my fav! She is always so patient with my dog and so nice to us. She is great about breaking down the price too. I highly recommend this place for your furry family member!

We’ve been coming here for 3 years and what I love here (which others have mentioned) is the price breakdown and that they never try to sell you anything you (or your pet) don’t need.
We usually see Dr. Grey but on this occasion we saw Dr. Horenstein.
It’s $ 58 for an exam plus our annual $ 14 bordatella. We also did the heartworm test $ 43. Fecal sampling is $ 29.
I think everything here is reasonable — Vanessa is always our vet tech and she is GREAT!
I also love the little scarf my little girl gets after her heartworm test :)

This is the first vet that I brought my dog, Charlie, to when I adopted him and I lucked out! I know how hard it is to find a good and honest vet, but CMR Vet is just that! They are always very knowledgeable and friendly. Plus, they dont just try to take your money… they truly want whats best for my dog and I know it. I always receive a follow up call after any visit where he was sick. I have even called them before to tell them that Charlie got into some chocolate… they talked me through it and didnt recommend bringing him in and spending a million dollars. Instead, they asked how much he ingested, told me what to watch for and to bring him in IF his condition changed. He wound up being just fine.
I have been taking Charlie to CMRVC for three years now and recently moved to North Park. I took Charlie for an emergency visit at a nearby clinic. The experience was no where near as wonderful and I now make the drive to Carmel Mountain just to make sure that I am getting the best service at the best rate that is going to keep Charlie healthy and my wallet happy! =)

We have two dogs that we bring here. It was recommended by the pit bull rescue that we got one of our dogs from. The staff is very pleasant and easy to talk to and so is the doctor.
The prices seem fair but to be honest we haven’t really shopped around. We don’t need to we like the staff here.
On one occasion we had picked up our dogs from a boarding stay and one of our dogs got her tail caught in the door and got cut when another patrons child was trying to pet her and my dog got super excited. It wasn’t anybody’s fault but the doctor stitched her up and let her stay a night free of charge.
Can’t say enough about the wonderful staff here.

I just wanted to say how wonderful this vet hospital is. Most places try to convince you to bring your pet in and get everything you can done so they make money, but this place doesn’t. A few hours ago I was in extreme panic because my dog ate gum (which is very toxic for them) and even after they told me bring her in and that it could be around $ 200 they called me back to tell me what I could do at home to fix the problem so that I wouldn’t have to spend so much money. I was on the phone with them at least 10 different times and they helped every step of the way and my dog is doing great thus far.
As a kid we always brought our pets to this vet hospital so I’ve always trusted and loved them. They have done amazing things for all my pets and never did anything for money. I have many memories with my first cat from them because they used to put a blue bandana on him after bathing him and he was always so upset with it and it is something my mom and I will always remember about him.

I love going to this vet hospital! Anytime I call, they have knowledgeable staff that answer my questions, and my calls are returned promptly when I leave messages.. Their website is also very helpful. When Bailey went in for his seizures, the doctor took as much time as I needed to understand things. Gave handouts and web links so I could get even more information too. He is doing GREAT so far and I cannot thank the entire group enough for his care!
I am really surprised to see the postings regarding ‘nickel and diming’. All my neighbors go to this hospital, and I have referred all my friends. I have gone for years, and they always show me an estimate of services they recommend before anything is done, and it is discussed of why it is important to do. If I dont want them or can’t afford it… I’ve never felt judged or made to feel bad about it!
I remember one time I asked the doctor why my old vets never discussed Heartworm or fecals or flea prevention or needed bloodwork before an anesthesia and she explained that it is always in the pets best interest to discuss all that is due or recommended for complete care. I am glad they do this because even though I can’t always do what is ideal care for my pet, I like knowing what is best.
I feel being thorough and a pet advocate should not be looked at as being ‘nickel and dimed’ in my opinion!
The other thing I love about this hospital is that they are humble. When my cat Duke swallowed an eraser, the doctor told me it is best for my cat to not have surgery at her hospital to remove it (which they can do) but to have a scoping done to remove it with no surgery/​pain, just anesthesia. Only specialists do scoping I now understand, so I went elsewhere. The specialist removed it easily and my cat was immediately better. I felt that the doctor cared more about my cat then ‘making money’ with the surgery.
I give them the highest possible recommendation for pet and client care!
