Business Owner

Richard Koll joined the Charles Koll team in the summer of 2011. He studied Business at Colorado University and graduated in 2010. After graduating he took an eight month trip to South Africa to get to know his distant relatives and to see where his grandfather, Charles Koll, started his business. Richard joining the family business has brought a new energy to the store and a sense of the next generation. He believes that Charles Koll is a legacy and he couldn’t be happier being a part of something that is bigger than himself. «To reach great heights you have to stand on shoulders of those that came before you and it’s great that I have two very sturdy shoulders to stand on.»

This is finishing my previous review. Came back tk make custom earrings for my wedding — worker with richard who helped me design them based on the wedding date — 2 earrings 13 gems 16 circles and then he helped me wrap them in a lego box to surpise her — overall a great experiance.

My husband and I would like to thank Richard and Malcolm (as well as the rest of the team) for their outstanding customer service and phenomenal jewelry craftsmanship. We purchased and designed custom wedding rings (engagement ring, bridal band and groom’s wedding band) from Charles Koll. We worked with Richard and Malcolm who were very patient with us and did not give up until my husband and I were 100% satisfied with the final results. We LOVE all three rings and want to thank you and your team for your creativity, talent, knowledge and assistance while we worked to make each ring perfect! I wonder if this place only sell and not buy back. I bought a ring a few years ago from this store. I went in last week to see if I can sell it back because I needed money. (I barely wear that ring). Left the number and today they called me that they aren’t buying my ring.

This place is beyond the most amazing jewelry store I have ever been to. Phenomenal customer service, we have been working with Rebecca to get my new wedding ring. She did an amazing job helping me pick out «the one» after I have searched in hundreds of different stores within three different states. It’s taken me over a year to find one that I really loved and I couldn’t have asked for a better person to help us. For a jewelry store, they have wonderful prices and a wide selection of almost anything you can think of. My husband loves the place bc of prices and bc every time we go in there he gets greeted with a beer and a smile. I highly recommend going to this place for any jewelry hunt you’re on. This really is a great place and the employees are amazing!

Can’t say enough good things about the customer service and work quality at Charles Koll. My fiancé did not purchase my ring here, but I brought it here for sizing because it was too big for my finger. They were absolutely wonderful. I explained to Catie that I wanted same day sizing because I didn’t want to part with my ring (new engagement excitement) and she totally understood. They were able to accommodate my request and scheduled an appointment to size my ring the next morning. Then, Catie spent a lot of time with me to find the perfect size to size it down so it would be comfortable but would not fall off my finger. I also really appreciated that I was allowed to go into the work room area and watch while my ring was sized. The whole process took less than an hour and the end result was perfect. They sized my platinum set ring using a laser, so there was no sign that the ring had been sized and it looked just as perfect as when I first got it. They are very transparent in how they run their business and I really appreciated how easily they accommodated my requests even though my ring was not purchased from their store.

I was trying to find a watch battery for my watch on my first visit. I went to neighboring stores and they recommended this jewelry store. As I entered, I noticed they didn’t have any watches on display. I was ready to walk out, until one of the sales people asked if I needed some assistance. I asked if they replace watch batteries. Once the person confirmed that they do, I went ahead and got the battery replaced. Although the battery is a little on the pricey side, they have a one year warranty. The people here are very helpful and friendly. They have some beautiful jewelry. I’m glad I went here. Now I continue getting watch batteries not only for myself, but for my friends too.

I went in to Nordstrom to ask them to replace my battery in my Michael Kors watch and they recommended me to this store. It took them about 15 minutes to replace the battery and the customer service was excellent. The price was very reasonable to replace the battery (I forget how much it was though) but they do give you a warranty on the battery as well. I definitely recommend this place!

My husband and I are so grateful we found Charles Koll a few months back. We interacted with several of the staff and all are really friendly. We worked most closely with Richard who was a star! We went in for our wedding bands, not once, not twice, but three times before we finalized our plans and put the deposit down. They never once rushed us and answered all our questions with extreme patience. The design of our rings was spot on. And it was nice having the peace of mind of knowing that we can change things even after they make it. But that didn’t happen because we really LOVED our rings. After we picked up and paid for them, I went back in two more times because of a billing issue. NOT their fault, but something that didn’t calculate right on my end. I felt so bad for going in because I should have obviously noticed my mistake at the beginning but it took two tries to get it right. Both times, Richard was extremely patient and didn’t once seemed put-​out. I really appreciated his professionalism. We had our wedding and now I get to finally wear them! We’re so happy with our experience and our rings.

If you are looking to buy an engagement ring then look no further than Charles Koll. I was told not to go to a jeweler in the mall for such an important purchase, but Charles Koll is a family owned business with amazing service and even better jewelry.
They are extremely knowledgeable and offer the unique service of custom ring design for very affordable prices. If you want the PERFECT engagement ring then you have to go here.
The process started with getting information about what I was looking for, my budget, and timeline. They were extremely helpful in educating me about their process and all of the nuances of what to look for in purchasing a diamond engagement ring. I told them that I wanted to get the biggest diamond possible within my budget. They warned me from the beginning that carat weight was only one piece of the puzzle and that cut was actually the most important factor in selecting a diamond that would perform the best and actually look the biggest. They brought in multiple loose diamonds for me to analyze before I narrowed my selection down to my 2 favorites. My 2 top choices were actually $ 5,000 different in price and when I asked for their recommendation on which diamond was better, they gave me such an honest and unbiased opinion that their choice was actually the cheaper option because the cut was far superior and it simply was more beautiful. I originally wanted the bigger diamond, but they were so right in their recommendation and I couldn’t thank them enough for their professional expertise and credibility.
After the diamond was chosen, we had multiple discussions detailing how I would like the setting to look. I couldn’t quite figure out the specifics because I wanted it to be simple, but I told them I wanted something unique as well. That is when Malcolm brought up the idea of setting the main stone in a «W» for my last initial. He drew the sketch and I instantly knew it was exactly what I was looking for!
After approving the sketch, proof, model, and finally the finished product, I was left with something so perfect that I could not have been happier. The only person more excited about the ring than me was my fiancé who LOVES the ring! I was worried that I wouldn’t get it quite right because she put a lot of emphasis on having the perfect engagement ring, but with Charles Koll’s help I made her dreams a reality.

Visited looking for a wedding band and the customer service was excellent. The gentleman that helped us was extremely friendly, helpful, and not pushy at all. It was a very comfortable experience. I knocked them down a star for pricing and the unwillingness to negotiate. I understand they have high rent in fashion Valley mall, but I’m not going to pay 40% more than other competitors. They are selling what appears to be full msrp or close to it.

Do not entrust your fine watch battery change to David Sands (new employee). Brought in a Michele watch with quick release straps, and he undid the links by pulling out a pin in order to expose the back of the watch. He then forgot to put the links back together because he was «so excited the battery was working». He hammered the pin back in, and when I pointed out there were quick release straps, he tried to dismiss them as being more difficult to undo than pulling out a pin! Once I explained to him that many fine watches have the quick release straps, he admitted he didn’t know about them, wasn’t «a watch guy» but a gemologist, and was only trying to help out because the jewelers were busy. I did not see him even try to turn the work over to a jeweler in the glass fronted working area. If he is inexperienced with watches, then he should not work on them. Very amateurish service. I expected better from Charles Koll.

Wow! I sheepishly walked he to inquire about re-​plated my white gold engagement ring. I normally get mine cleaned and re-​plated at the place my husband got it at in Northern California (Kenny G). but since we moved to San Diego I haven’t found a place.
John was so helpful and inspected my ring for any loose diamonds. He then explained that the re-​plating process takes away some of the gold each time and although he is happy to do it, he didn’t think it needed it because there was no show threw on the prongs. I felt he truly was watching out for my best interest. He offered to clean it and I was shocked that there was no charge!

Charles Koll Jewellers is absolutely amazing. I will definitely be coming back if I decide to buy more jewelry.
I recently got my ears pierced and had an allergic reaction to the starter studs, so I figured that if I was going to drop some money on a pair of real gold earrings, I wanted to love it. I looked around at every single jewelry store in the mall, and no one had anything I really wanted. Then I walked into Charles Koll.
The staff are super friendly (and are very good and remembering faces). I went in, was promptly greeted at the door, and was allowed to walk around and look at the displays.
I didn’t really have a concrete idea of what I wanted, but Rebecca was very good at showing me different pairs and getting a sense for what type of jewelry I’d like. Eventually, we came to the conclusion that custom making a pair of garnet studs would be the best bet. She was so great throughout the process. She explained the differences in cut, sizes, and types of metal very thoroughly and didn’t rush me at all through the process (I’m very bad at making decisions…).
In the end, she put in an order for a gem search of 6 mm garnet stones and told me she would give me a call when they were ready. I didn’t even have to pay an initial deposit.
Less than a week later, she called and told me that my earrings were ready and waiting to be picked up. They even cost less than the original quoted value.
I now own a pair of 6 mm antique cut garnet studs cast in 14k yellow gold. They are absolutely gorgeous and I am absolutely in love with them. I am, without a doubt, happy with the product and service here.

My fiancé and I went to this store to ask for a ring guard for my engagement ring. The guy behind the counter did not greet us as we walked in, just said «I’m going up front, follow me» as he walked towards the front of the store. We thought he was going to finish up with another customer, turns out he was just dropping off paperwork. We asked about the ring guard and mentioned that we were going to have my ring re-​sized tomorrow and were just looking for something temporary. He asked where we were getting the ring re-​sized (completely irrelevant) and then said he did not have a ring guard. Once he realized we were getting the ring re-​sized elsewhere he was even more unfriendly to us. We then decided not to look at wedding bands (the second reason for our visit to the store). Would prefer to give our business to someone with better customer service skills.

If you are in the market for any type of jewelry and am not sure which store to pick, go check out Charles Koll. I bought my Fiancé’s engagement ring from them, and was blown away by the customer service, professionalism and expertise they exhibit at the store. What I really like, and you should too, is the fact that they don’t do cookie cutter jewelry, you can CUSTOMIZE whatever you like to fit your style, which is very rare for most places.
I took some different ring ideas, talked to David about how I’d like it to look, and he drafted up a design with all the elements of what I was looking for. After the initial drawing, they use auto CAD to design what you want, then send you email renderings of the jewelry piece. Once you approve the renderings, they make a 3d model of your design for final approval. What other store does that?
When I’m shopping at the mall, I always try to stop in and see how they are doing since they are so customer focused, they always seem to remember their former clients. I forgot to mention that they are a third generation FAMILY owned company which says a lot! We are in the process of making our weddings bands, and couldn’t be more happy with the quality of work they produce. I recommend Charles Koll to anyone who is in the market, or if not, go look at their cool designs they have made that are displayed!

Had my vintage (80 year+) ring totally renovated and I had to trust someone to take care of my ring as much as I do. so I gave this place a try.
Let’s start off with what work was being done to my ring. The center stone was extremely loose, so retip 4 prongs. I had resized the ring so the bottom of the shank was extremely thin and the previous jewler faded the design really bad. Then also on the bottom of the shank I noticed the white gold wasn’t so white. so I then added Rhodium Plating to the order.
So breifly: Retipping, thicker bottom shank, design redone on bottom shank, and rhodium plating.
It was a lot of work I was trusting into this jewler. and I was absolutely blown away. They made my ring look brand new, and the detail was beautifully done. I could not believe that they totally got it down, every last thing I asked, Perfectly.
I don’t know about you but I would pay anything to keep my ring looking gorgeous. So the price was all worth it. I left that store like I had just gotten a brand new ring, almost like how I felt when I first got married. you know that feeling where you just want to show it off to everyone. lol ;).
I cannot thank this place and thank that jewler who actually did all the work. thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

Charles Koll is the best! The jewelry is high quality and you have the ability to customize anything you want.
My fiancé designed my dream ring from there. They give you tons of great ideas and you can try on pieces that you definitely haven’t seen at other jewelry stores. I love that my ring is completely unique, custom made for me, and well made!
Rebecca helped my fiancé every step of the way and made sure everything looked PERFECT! She was able to direct his vision of my engagement ring! In addition, she’s very friendly and has a knack for pinpointing your style!
