D-Tek Live Bee Removal

Dave came out to my house this morning to investigate our bee problem. He was very friendly and knowledgeable. Upon thorough investigation, he identified the bees must have been on a scouting mission and didn’t build a hive in our chimney. (Some bees were coming into the house via the chimney so we were alarmed and called D-​Tek). He gave us some pointers of what to look out for in the future so we can catch any bee activity early before it becomes a major issue. I would highly recommend D-​Tek. Additionally, their live bee capture process is a major plus for me.

I found Dave «the bee guy» of D-​Tek via Unilocal a couple of weeks ago after I discovered a bee’s nest near our new home. New to Carlsbad and also to Unilocal,I conducted a thorough search for vendors.

I got 3 different bee removal companies to give me a quote yesterday. I picked this company over the others because: 1. Had 2 guys instead of just 1. 2. very polite. 3. they had a thermal sensor camera and showed me exactly where the bees have invaded and what the job entailed. 4. Gave me a fully detailed description of job and guarantee. 5. I asked for photos – no problem. I asked them several questions-​answered me. 6. Asked when can they do the job and they said now. They came prepared. 7. Live bee removal. Bees are important for our environment and ecology.
Most important: Asked them since they have to tear into roof, make sure after Bee removal, roof after is exactly as the before. They took photos before and after and they did what they promised.

I had had back-​to-​back «bad» experiences with local live bee removal services so I was skeptical when I called D-​Tek. (See my postings for Hive Savers and Encinitas Bee Removal. Steer clear of those guys.)
Dave was extemely professional and knowledgeable. He responded to my voicemail message within an hour and was out to inspect the hive later the same day, even though he had already done several removals earlier in the day. Dave used technology, his understanding of bee behavior and construction to accurately determine the location of the hive.
He scheduled our removal for the next morning. We were his second that day. He showed up on time, brought an assistant and had our hive removed within about 2 hours. The hive was tucked up between the framing joists of our garage ceiling and turned out to be a lot bigger than it initially appeared. About 70 lbs. and Dave estimated 50 – 60 thousand bees! But there was not one complaint, and no attempt to «upcharge» us for the project being bigger than anticipated.
Dave did a wonderful job. He scraped out all the wax and honey, got all but about 100 bees (boy, were they angry for the next several hours!), treated the hive location (to deter a reinfestation) and cleaned up spotlessly.
The following morning, for the first time in months I was able to use my deck without being chased by bees! I now have just the normal amount of bees you’d have in any landscaped yard in Encinitas. What a relief!
Let Dave take care of your bees. He understands both his industry and construction, making him far more efficient at determining what needs to be done to get at the hive, with the least invasion of your home or costly repairs afterwards. (Again, see my review of the first two bee «specialists» who were going to tear off my wood shingles and cut through the sides of my home, which turned out to be pointless since the bees were in the CEILING, not the walls!)

Soon after I wrote my review we were contacted by Dave.
He explained the reason he didn’t contact us was that he was no longer operating in Las Vegas, and was trying to find a replacement company who would honour the contract for us.
I appreciate his honesty and just wish he told us that sooner or was more transparent about the difficulty. We would have been understanding rather than frustrated through the process.
Since he’s been unable to find a company to help us, he offered to refund our original service to help us cover the cost of finding a new live bee removal service.
I’m revising my original review to consider the quality of the initial work, for his interest and effort in making sure we were happy with our experience, and because there are so few decent companies out there that do live honeybee removal.

We had an active hive in an accessible tree for about three months. It was bigger than a basketball.
I had a very unfortunate experience with another company elsewhere, that was supposed to save the Bees, but poisoned them instead.
After spending a day on the phone researching, I found out that it is illegal to kill Bees in CA. That does not stop the companies from doing so, as they have ways of getting around the law and doing what is easiest for themselves.
Luckily I found DAVE! He understands Bee behavior. Vacuums out the Bees for safe relocation, and is reasonable in price.
Believe me! DAVE IS THE MAN FOR THE JOB. Bees are declining and endangered. They need to be safely re-​located.

We cant say enough great things about Dave and D-​Tek! We were initially ripped off by
(Bee Guys Bee Removal), with a hefty bill, empty promises and a 30 day guarantee that they did not honor. After some research and discovering that D-​Tek was the only company that guaranteed safe removal of bees, we called and hired Dave. He is extremely knowledgable, professional, and skilled! He removed a portion of our roof, removed a hive as well as the hundreds of bees that had taken over the back of our house!
