Disconnected Salon

I have been coming here every two weeks for a year now. I had hair half way down my back a year ago and wanted something funky short and different. So glad I trusted Neil to take care of everything. He always listens to what I want and always offers good advice. Head massage with every haircut. Drinks while you wait. Reception always calls and emails to remind me of my appointments.

Prime location in North Park. 30^th and Univ. As soon as I checked in I was offered a drink and they rolled out a tray to put my drink and personal belongings on. Then sat comfortable in a leather seat with an ottoman to kick up my kicks surrounded by vibrant art and hip music in the background. I usually prefer not to be chatty when I’m in a salon but I loved the space I couldn’t shut up. Jessica gave me the most amazing scalp massage during my shampoo and rinse. Neal listened to my request and lined me up. He reshaped my Pixie Buzz Cut. Reshape was good. Missed the mark on my request for highly textured messy look. I already know I will have to go somewhere else within the week to cut half an inch and request again for a high textured look that can be styled up or down. Cool experience but I don’t see how stylist either mess up a pixie buzz cut or just don’t get the look. I even show pictures and still way off. Definetely a disconnection somewhere.

Was referred by a friend. So happy I did. I trusted Derrek to chop off my loose beachy waves for a short messy bob– big, big change. He reviewed my inspiration pictures with me and we began a blissful massage/​hair washing sesh, followed by a long but very precise new cut. I think he was hesitant to go too short too fast, but in the end slow and steady won the race. I ended up with exactly what I asked for and will be back to see him again for color sometime soon. Parking was validated in the garage above AND a glass of wine while getting my hur did, win win win winning!
Update: do not see Derrek unless you’re willing to get 100+ compliments on your new do. I went to work today and was almost uncomfortable by how many people were digging on my new hair. Ridiculous! Thanks again to Derrek!!!

I’ve been going to Misty Brown for the past ten years and she never disappoints. Not only is she a Master Stylist but she ebbs and flows with the conversation. Sometimes I feel like talking her ear off and sometimes I’m more contemplative. Whatever mood I’m in, she adapts. In addition to being genuinely sweet, she is always offering tips to style my hair, recommends the best products and does an amazing job. I’ll include the before and after photos. Keep in mind the «after photos» were taken an hour later because my phone died and I was in a hurry after the appointment. She did a thorough job today and processed my hair twice. I love it. What do you think?

Just came back from a haircut with Toni. All I can say is «excellent». First I walk in and am immediately and cheerfully greeted. I was asked if I wanted a drink. They have a nice comfortable bar where they serve complimentary coffee, wine, beer and other beverages. I had coffee which they get from Caffe Calabria. It was a great start to the experience.
When it was time for my appointment Toni approached me with a beautiful, genuine, and authentic smile. Everyone working here makes you feel completely welcome and comfortable. Toni has a great sense of humor, the conversation is natural and she’s very professional.
Even though her day is completely booked she took no shortcuts, paid attention to every detail, thoroughly explained her plan and why it looked good on me. She described the hair products and the styling process in depth. They give extensive scalp, neck and back massages complimentary twice during the cut and shampoo. They’re professionally trained at this. I would highly recommend Toni or any of the other stylists here!

I am such a noob with salon etiquette– even though my stylist Derrick did such a great job on my hair, I later realized I totally didn’t give him enough to convey how much I admired his work! FML. Hopefully, this review helps fix this mistake of mine :)
A little bit of backstory: a few years back, my hair got absolutely wrecked by some stylists in China. It looked great– but my hair was not happy, and it was evident in the brittle texture and the smell of wet dog that permeated my sinuses every time I washed my hair. Fast forward to now, with my hair finally back to its original quality: I wanted to color it again, to something special, but without sacrificing the well-​being of my poor locks. After a lot of research, I decided to take a chance with Disconnected.
It was easy to schedule, and the people I chatted with were really a delight: they checked up on me a lot and were really helpful the whole time I was there. I originally went in for a simple color consultation with Derrick (who has this awesome lime and teal Mohawk), but the salon had time to make hair magic happen for me on the same day. Derrick was professional and such a dear to talk to, being patient with all my questions and being really flexible to color change requests throughout my visit. I was really concerned with the color originally since it was hard to distinguish the blue-​teal I requested for in the salon’s lighting, but Derrick was used to this and pulled me outside to see the color. Literally! I felt blue and green (badadee badadah) in the sun. Though I was expecting to see a bit more color originally, this had a skillful level of subtlety and intrigue that I found myself liking more and more as time progressed. The whole process of lightening, washing, coloring, and drying my hair took approximately 4 hours.

My whole time and the money I spent was well worth it. I don’t regret my decision and am really feeling mermaid realness with my blue-​sheened hair. I would suggest this place to anyone who wants A+ service, and wants someone who really knows how to take care of coloring hair :)

I came here once before when my previous salon canceled my appointment due to «overbooking.» I was greeted with grace and given a great cut without waiting before flying to Atlanta that night — with Sara (spelling?) I believe.
I decided to come back because I remembered not only how laid back and unpretentious the atmosphere was, but because they did a fantastic job. It wasn’t $, it was a feeling.
Toni was very kind and laughed at my bad jokes, which is very important. ;) She also knew exactly what to do, even with my obtuse and cavalier way of describing my previous haircut and what I liked. Easy. And although I typically eschew the usual hair wash and massage because I don’t think of myself as especially pretty when wet, in a black bag lady shawl, and staring into a mirror, I trusted her and it was quite nice. She needs to give massage lessons to boyfriends.
Great experience. Good people.
Most importantly: an excellent haircut without ever, ever being made to feel like you don’t deserve it or aren’t good enough to patronize a very nice place. Thanks for the kindness and skill, y’all.

I came here to get a cut and go platinum. I called and immediately came in for a consultation with Rachel. Of course after our consultation I made an appointment for the next day. Let me tell you, I’m picky with my blonde hue — I’m terrified of being yellow blonde when I try a new place and she was incredible! She listened and gave honest opinions about everything I wanted to do. Rachel took her time to give me exactly what I wanted. I felt so comfortable and never once felt uneasy. I never write reviews but I had such a wonderful experience that I couldn’t pass it up. Finally, a place in San Diego I trust, so now I can get my hair done and relax! Thanks Rachel! You’ve got a customer in me.

Came here to see Derrek. He’s my friend’s nephew, I’ve been waiting for him to find a salon to work at. What a great hair salon, very hipster, and has a great vibe.
It was rough during the holidays, finally have the money and wanted to chop off my hair and do something different. Cut my hair to shoulder length, it was bra length before, and had Derrek put purple blue underneath. He did an amazing job, very attentive. He constantly checked on me while I was processing, asked if I needed a drink (yes this shop has an unmanned bar in the middle). He made sure I received the color I wanted, the cut I wanted. He said if I wanted to change the cut, I could return within the week and he would fix it. The other plus, the divine scalp massage during the wash. I absolutely love Derrek and love the vibe of this shop.
Perks, there’s some super cute, affordable jewelry at the front of the store. FYI, you park in the structure next door, they will validate for you as they have a deal with the management of the structure. If you’re feeling fabulous after your new do, you’re in the heart of North Park and can just walk to a bar or restaurant.

I’m updating my review again, because of the awesome experience I continue to have with Disconnected Salon! For the past 2 hair services I have seen Kirsty! I went in about 2 months ago for a complete color correction because of the bad hair experiences I have had from prior salons in San Diego. Kirsty is a miracle worker with hair! She tackled my color correction, and has continued to make my hair look better and better every visit.
The staff is amazing as well, Melissa who works the front desk is so sweet! I don’t know why there would be ONE negative review about this salon! They work really hard to make their clients feel comfortable and happy! I enjoy getting my hair done every time, it feels like I am hanging out with my friends. Thank you so much Disconnected Salon for your great service! :)

Derrek was amazing (and gives heavenly scalp massages) — I will be coming back for sure! Great customer service, quality hair products, and very easy to get to/​find parking. I called day-​of for a walk in appointment and was quickly scheduled for that same afternoon. Would recommend 100%

I went out on a limb got paired with Sophie. She was great. Not only did she understand exactly what I wanted, we also got along really well. Sophie is a young and hip lovely gal. She is confident in her work and she made me feel really beautiful from the inside out. I recommend this salon to anyone looking for a fun experience.
I was well taken care of the whole time I was there. You name it, they had coffee, tea, wine, and they even went and checked on my car for me to make sure I didn’t have a ticket. This unique salon is vibing with creative energy. The stylist’s here can be themselves and it shows through their work. I will for sure be going back to Sophie!

Toni is honestly the best hair stylist I’ve ever been to in my entire life. Usually, I have doubts about my happiness with my haircut when I leave a salon; but not this time. Toni was very friendly, kind, funny, and clearly an expert at hair. She analyzed what I wanted to have done, and she did it exactly as I envisioned it.
I highly recommend her. The other girls at the salon were also extremely nice and seemed very knowledgeable too!

I went here to treat myself for my birthday… best decision ever. I walked over from my apartment and walked in to get my hair done around 530pm on a Thursday. It was about an hour for the next available stylist but I didn’t mind waiting at all because they offer a drink while you wait! The salon itself is very appealing to the eye so I enjoyed taking my Unilocal pictures. The eye catchers for me were the blow dryers suspended from the ceiling and the vibrant bar. I got my hair washed, cut, and styled for about $ 65 by Shannon, who is an advanced stylist. You either get a Stylist, Advanced Stylist or Master Stylist. I was looking to get a Stylist, but only an Advance Stylist was available when I walked in. Nevertheless, I was very happy with my hair and the experience as a whole with Shannon. She gave me a great cut that enhanced the color I already had on my hair. She was also a great conversationalist and took her time with me. I’m a salon hopper but I definitely will be back.

I struggle writing this review because I’m not much of a complainer but I feel like others might enjoy a heads up. I booked a last minuet appointment here. I was super pregnant, just days before my due date and I NEEDED my hair to be a more natural color before I met my baby. It was blue before. I consulted with a stylist who said she could do it and I talked to the front desk gal who told me it would be $ 100 an hour. Yikes I thought but hey at least I’ll have good hair when I’m done and feel just a tiny bit like myself again.
After the first ½ hour I had a feeling that things were not going to end well. The stylist took a huge amount of time foiling my hair in a product she had never used before, then after nearly 2 hours she took the foil out to tell me it did nothing. Then she put some mild bleach on my hair which turned it from blue to light blue. Then a senior stylist came by to tell me nothing more could be done, I then burst into tears. Then they cut my hair, blew it dry and sent me home minus $ 450. Then asked for tip. I tipped 15% because I was super pregnant and holding back tears. The moment I left the salon I burst into tears.
It was the worst salon experience I’ve ever had. They should have set me up with a more experienced stylist, told me it couldn’t be done or at a minimum charged me less for the completely failed result. Now I’m super pregnant and can’t afford to do anything else to my hair. Guess I’ll just wear a hat.

I’ve been seeing Nicole S. for more years than I can remember. I’ve always trusted her with my hair. Today I went in for my usual cut and decided to take the plunge and try some new color. My hair has been black for 16 years!!! To her surprise, (and mine) I was ready for something different.
She added some balayage and I absolutely LOVE it! Was nervous at first to change color but clearly had no reason to be.
Nicole ROCKS!!! It’s no wonder why I’ve been so loyal for so many years!

The stylists know what they’re doing too, I got the pleasure to get cut and color by Shannon and she’s edgy, friendly, and most importantly, really good at what she does! She gives great hair advice and the color still looks good months later! I also am not the type of person to wake up early before work to style my hair and the way that she cut it subtracts that necessity to do so (just like I asked)! Favorite salon in SD!

I’ve never gotten my hair professionally done before, and I’m glad my first experience was here at Disconnected. I called and asked for the first available appointment, luckily they had one with Toni at noon the following day.
As soon as I got there I was helped right away, and offered a beverage while I waited for Toni. When I met with Toni she asked me what I wanted done — I told her something low-​maintenance that would give my hair more dimension, but within my budget. She knew what to do right away and we decided on a medium cut with caramel highlights.
After the color in my hair lifted we went onto shampooing where I received the best head and neck massage of my life! I felt so pampered and relaxed, wondering why I’ve never gotten my hair done here before. Once my hair was all rinsed we went onto the haircut/​styling.
The whole service took a little over 2 hours and came out to about $ 130 (not including gratuity), but it was worth every dollar.
I will definitely be back — thanks so much Toni!!!

They take good care of you here. I know that this salon has great stylists, but I have to say that Toni was pretty amazing.
I have not lightened or colored my hair professionally in years and wanted something stylish yet low maintenance. Toni knew exactly what I needed and went the extra mile. She even showed me how to curl my hair (I’m pretty bad at doing my hair). I think I’ve finally found my stylist. Thanks Toni!

My experience here was great and I’ll tell you why.
I never go to salon, for years I’ve been doing my own in the comfort of my bathroom. But I finally decided I needed professional help.
I live near North Park so my friend and I thought that’s where we would start looking around for a salon.
We walked into Lighthouse first, and were greeted by a pretty snotty receptionist who walked away from me like five times before a DIFFERENT girl came up and told us they had an appointment at 5:30. I got just a really pretentious + cold vibe from that place. So we left and went to Disconnected and I’m so so happy we did.
The receptionist here was friendly and super sweet. She asked me if I wanted Toni (the junior stylist) or someone else who was more experienced (I’m assuming) for $ 65. I chose Toni. They had an opening right away, so we sat and they gave us delicious coffee! And then I met Toni, a super tall gorgeous Amazon goddess who was so nice and so attentive to what I wanted.
I got a really short bob-​type thing that made my hair feel super light and amazing and healthy and it was exactly what I wanted.
I could go on about my experience, but I’ll keep it short + sweet. I will be coming back, because my money here was so well-​spent and I am so grateful for what I got from this salon!
