Dr. Walton gives each patient their individualized attention to make sure your vision needs are met. Your vision is something you use from the time you wake up to the time you go to bed so why compromise?

We also have a full optical with over 400 frames to chose from. Most of our glasses support local or independently owned frame lines and are eco friendly. Also some of our frame lines give back to the community around us. Ask us to find out more!

History

Established in 2015.

Heights Optometry opened in Normal Heights in April 2015. This is Dr. Walton’s first sole-​ownership practice. Heights Optometry was opened to serve the vision health needs of the San Diego community.

Dr. Meredith W.

Business Owner

Dr. Meredith Walton received her Doctorate in Optometry in 2011 from Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee. Following graduation she moved with to her husband who is in the Navy to his new duty station in Italy. While in Italy, Dr. Walton worked at the U.S. Naval Hospital-​Naples, Italy and served local communities by participating in multiple free eye-​care clinics throughout Europe.

After relocating to San Diego, CA, Dr. Walton opened Heights Optometry. Dr. Walton is passionate about helping every patient see to the best of their ability.

Dr. Walton is a participating member of the national, state and local Optometric Societies and volunteers locally to help patients with limited resources have access to eye exams and glasses. In her time out of the office she enjoys outdoor activities with her husband Mark, her son Luther and their dog Macchiata.

Dr. Walton, Janet and crew are the best! I just walked out on «cloud 9» with my new rimless glasses, very satisfied and ready to take new business selfies! Prior to this awesome experience, Dr. Walton & crew were always very professional, customer oriented, and had a large variety of not just glasses, but a large number of them we liked, even though they were very busy that day. Although I already had my eyes on a couple pair of lenses, Dr. Walton was spot on with picking out the exact styles my wife instantly fell in love with. Our following exams by Dr. Walton couldn’t have been done any better. All with a complimentary side of welcomed humor too. The whole experience, from walk-​in, to new specs was text book A+ class service with a cherry on top. Kudos to the whole team! Folks, working with business owners everyday. It’s easy to sort out the best.
So if you want a good clean well kept easy to find location, quality service with a positive energetic vibe, good selections of quality frames, and overall satisfaction? Dr. Walton & Heights Optometry is the only place to go. Five stars is not enough…

New year, new insurance!
I was a little panicked finding out my new insurance no longer covered my eye doctor I had been going to for the past 10 years or so. Researched places around town that worked with my insurance, most had sub-​par reviews.
I then came across Heights Optometry! Called on Thursday and was able to schedule an appointment for myself and my boyfriend for Saturday. They also have online booking too.
Their location is perfect right next door to BLA, with plenty of street parking on the side of the building. Front reception and Optician were both so friendly and informative while we were waiting.
Long story short, Dr. Walton is personable and very informative. She takes the time to explain the process, and what is going on with your eyes. We are so happy we have found such an awesome new Optometrist and we have already referred some friends.

In a nutshell: they do it all here. Whether you need to get an eye exam, pick new frames, get prescription glasses made — it’s all under one roof, and they can bill to your insurance. You can make an appointment online, and they’re super responsive to e-​mails. The shop is nicely-​appointed, there’s a great selection of frames, and the staff is simply top notch!
A very welcome new addition to the neighborhood!

Dr. Walton and her staff are the greatest! They have an awesome selection of frames and on top of that, they take the time to go through all the different pricing options so you are not shocked when you get your bill. I have never had a doctor email me personally either when my frames were ready, this was a first! This is a great local establishment, I highly recommend it!

I was in for an appt with Dr. Walton a couple weeks ago, and had a terrific experience! She was very kind, personable, and made the experience of going to the optometrist alot more pleasant than it usually is! She took the time to chat with me throughout the appt and get to know me as a person, and made the process very simple from start to finish.
The man at the front desk was also very friendly, and the place seems to run like a well oiled machine. I know I have found the eye doctor that I’ll be sticking with for years to come!

Dr. Walton and her staff are top-​notch. They are all friendly and helpful and are willing to take the time to help you out.
First off when you walk in you see the place is decorated very nicely with wood floors and huge leather couches and chairs. The walls are covered with frames to try on as well as a table covered in frames. There is definitely a selection to choose from here.
I don’t know which insurance Dr. Walton takes but she took mine (UHC vision) so I only paid $ 10 for my exam. I originally wanted contact lenses but my eyes proved to be just too sensitive to handle being poked and prodded so I opted for glasses instead. Hey glasses are in right? Fortunately for me I found a pair that both looked good and were covered by my insurance. Score!
The exam itself was quite painless. Dr. Walton is a very friendly person so she makes the exam pretty easy to get through. She also doesn’t use that scary thing that blows air at your eyes which is a plus in my book. I was very sensitive to light for about 4 hours after the exam but that was manageable. I even got these really cool plastic shades to wear with my regular sunglasses so I could go back out into the world after my exam.
As for Dr. Walton’s staff, they are excellent too. Jeannette helped me on two separate occasions to try out contact lenses. Both times were colossal failures but Jeannette was very patient and supportive with my attempts.
I highly recommend seeing Dr. Walton even if you don’t live in the area. She and her staff are that good. And I’m totally stoked for my new glasses!

Wow! I love this place! The owner is as kind and personable as she Is knowledgeable! The glass selection at diverse and very reasonable. I sent my mom in and she was also given amazing service. Just yesterday my mom told me she called because she had a scratch on her glasses she needed fixed. Meredith looked at her file and told her she had a warranty and that she would order her a new pair saving her a trip and having to go without her glasses.

I had just bought my first pair of reading glasses and I knew it was time to see an optometrist, but I had been putting it off because I was in denial. My friend came to work raving about Dr. Walton and Jeanette. I thought, really, RAVING about a doctor? Seems like an exaggeration, but thought I need to go to someone, so why not Heights? It was no exaggeration — Dr. Walton is patient, knowledgeable, funny, and knows exactly how to make the uncomfortable not so bad. I decided to try contacts for the first time and she was a dream in helping me insert and remove them. Definitely worth the drive no matter where you live!

I visited Heights Optometry in the midst of a cross country move. With very little time, I needed to visit a place that would allow me to get in and out relatively quickly and that was committed to providing excellent customer service. Dr. Walton and her staff were not only able to get me in for an appointment but they were friendly and knowledgeable. They also seem to genuinely enjoy what they do and working with each other. I am so happy Heights Optometry is in the neighborhood. I used to visit Optometric Expressions in Horton Plaza, and while they weren’t terrible (which is why i kept returning), I really didn’t know what I was missing until I stepped into Heights Optometry.
Jeanette, the assistant in the office, greeted me and asked me to fill out paperwork when I arrived. The store is very cute! Tons of frames to look at, fun art on the walls, beautiful furniture, and they had complimentary beverages. The office was nice & cool, too. After I completed the paperwork, she handed me about 7 pairs of glasses to try on while I waited for Dr. Walton.
Dr. Walton took me into the exam room and went over the answers to the questionnaire. As a glasses-​wearer for 20 years, I want to give contracts a fair and honest try. She spent about 10 minutes educating me on the difference between dailies, bi-​weekly, and monthly options, the risks that are associated with contacts, and even filled me on Lasik info that I didn’t previously know about.
I’ll be back this weekend because she offered to properly fit me for contacts, put one in for me, teach me to put the other one in, and sit back in the office for 20 – 30 minutes while my eyes adjust to make sure i’m comfortable with them in. She even pointed out how much easier it’ll be for me to select new frames when I can actually see my face through the clear lenses!
Even if you don’t live IN Normal Heights/​Kensington, I highly suggest giving this office a visit. You will be blown away by the level of service you receive. Dr. Walton’s office has truly set a new bar of expectation and I’m so excited to trust her with my eyeballs for years to come.

This is a great addition to this ever improving neighborhood which I happen to live in. I remember when it used to be a shoe store and I’d walk by and was like «hmm should I buy some super expensive hipster shoes… Nah!» But I was super excited that it turned into an optometry place because that’s actually something I use and need.
Thankfully they accepted my vision coverage and I got some super cute glasses and was fitted for contacts that actually don’t dry out and make my eyes all itchy.
The staff is sooo nice and helpful and cheerful. You can tell they are just really happy to be there which is so nice.
I’ve been wearing contacts and glasses for almost 20 years and this young and hip new optometrist taught me so much I didn’t know. One happy customer!

While I may look all tough and stuff, I tend to avoid things being put close to or into my eyes; one may say I am afraid of such behaviors. Dr. Walton was super friendly and considerate of my ocular aversion and the basic exam I had was a breeze.
Rad staff of the friendly and knowledgable variety. Hyper-​clean from the lobby to the exam room. Also the book of MagicEye Puzzles was awesome. I saw the boxing kangaroos, did you?!
Turns out I don’t need eyeglasses and there was no hard sell or pressure to buy anything. I was also made aware that my insurance would cover sunglasses so I will be back soon to acquire a new pair of shades!

WHAT AN AMAZING STAFF! I had to take the time off my busy schedule to give Dr. Walton’s team some props. The customer service was so sweet and on top of that they help you take the necessary steps to get you where you need to be.
I am HUGE with CUSTOMER SERVICE and the fact that I got to speak with Dr. Walton personally on the phone was like meeting a celebrity. Dr’s usually don’t give you the time or day unless you are literally sitting in an office room, and Dr. Walton personally explained to me the important information, I didn’t even have to ask.
Asking the pricing for anything is usually uncomfortable but needed and instead of having to ask, Dr. Walton took the time to speak with me on the phone and explain the pricing with me, this made me so comfortable.
I wish there was more staff out there like Dr. Walton’s team. Thank you for an amazing experience and am glad to know that there are people out there that truly cares and understand others situation. They made me comfortable. I LOVE THIS TEAM!!!
