I went in to have my brakes looked at. They were fast and very knowledgeable. I will definitely be using them again for any repair.

They were able to do an oil change the same day within 15 minutes of me calling in. Pricing was reasonable and especially affordable considering the area of town that they’re in.
Previously they replaced a oil cover gasket and allowed me to bring my own part, only charging for the labor!

Hi Automotive is amazing! Incredibly honest and affordable work. These guys work fast and with integrity. I could not be any happier with the service performed on my Honda. They got my shakey, clacky, squeaky, hoopty running great in just one day. They diagnosed my car, changed belts, replaced axle bearings, and fixed an oil leak for me. Matthew was incredibly helpful, knowledgeable, and hard working. He kept me informed throughout the entire process and explained everything in a way anybody could understand. Very honest and nice people.

This guy’s unreal. My brother had my brakes done there — the whole works — and it was less than half the dealer. So, when a brake light went out on my Honda Fit I took it there. No appointment. Figured we would schedule something, whatever. No. Huai came out, put Hung (I kid you not!) on the job. Hung had me open the back, he popped open a panel, replaced the defective bulb in 7 mins. And, get this: Huai charges me $ 5.00. That’s five dollars! I’ve never paid $ 5.00 for anything at an auto shop, except a cup of coffee or a candy bar in a vending machine! Are you kidding me? Let me repeat: Brake light; no appointment; in and out in 7 mins. from the time I pulled in (!); $ 5.00! I more than recommend Hi Auto Repair. I’m still shaking my head in disbelief.

I am a long time customer of Hi Auto Repair. Hai is the honest and is an excellent mechanic. I will always recommend Hai to my friends and family.

I took my 1987 Cadillac Allante to Hai because my family takes their cars there and let me tell you, it was one of the best experiences I have ever had at a shop! the staff were professional, courteous and kind. I will definitely be going back! Thanks Hai!

I cannot recommend Hi Auto Repair.
I went there for an oil change – I was surprised when I was told it would take an hour on a Saturday morning when the shop was almost empty.
When they were finished with the oil change, the mechanic brought me out to where my car was on he lift and told me that I need new tie rods. A technician squeezed the tie rods with giant pliers as the mechanic pointed to them.
I had no idea how to spot a bad tie rod, let alone what a tie rod is (I have since googled it). Thus I had no idea why they were squeezing my tie rods with pliers or what that was supposed to prove.
They lowered my car and the mechanic and I walked inside to settle up for the oil change. I asked him for a quote to replace the tie rods, and he quoted me $ 240 for the four tie rods, $ 75 for labor, and $ 69.95 for alignment. From the research I’ve done, these prices are indeed reasonable (and actually on the low end) for tie rod replacement for my car.
I left and called around to get other quotes on tie rods, and American Tire Depot in Kearny Mesa suggested that I come by for a free inspection and price quote. I brought my car there and sat in the waiting room for about ten minutes when a technician asked me to come out to the car. As we walked over, he asked me why I think my tie rods are bad; I explained that the mechanic who had changed my oil over the weekend had told me.
With the my car on the lift, he squeezed the tie rod ends with his hands and showed me that they weren’t moving. I told him that the previous shop had squeezed them with pliers and they had moved and he told me that perfectly good tie rods move when squeezed with pliers, but not with hands.
So, not only did Hi Auto Repair suggest that I get unneeded auto service, but also caused me to waste about an hour and a half driving to American Tire Depot and getting a second opinion (which I am glad I did). I am glad there are still honest mechanics out there, American Tire Depot easily could have sold me new tie rods since another mechanic had already suggested I may need them but did not.
I will not return to Hi Auto Repair for an oil change or any other service, and do not recommend Hi Auto Repair to anyone.

Best mechanic in san diego and most importantly HONEST. Took my honda accord here multiple times for service. Never left disappointed

I wanted to replace the coil springs on my G37 sedan, so I called for an estimate. They told me I would need to bring the car in so they can see what type of suspension it had. I thought this was weird, but decided I would give them a shot.
I took the car in and waited more than 40 minutes for them to put the car up on the lift. This was a bit absurd, but I figured it would be worth it. The owner comes back to me and tells me it would be $ 185 and take about 3 hours. This sounded like a great price, so I agreed. I showed him the lowering springs in the trunk and he was surprised that there were 4. He proceeded to tell me that the quote was only for the rear because the front do not have coils. Wtf? I told him that, yes, this car has coil on strut front suspension. He disagreed and said the car doesn’t. Again, wtf?
I am speechless.
Thanks for wasting an hour of my time.

I’ve had my car fixed here and these guys are honest. They will go the extra mile to help you out. Once, I called and they were closed, but Hi helped me over the phone to narrow down the problem. Thank you Hi, you rock!

I brought my Chevy Cavalier here recently after a recommendation from a friend. I found Hi to be honest, quick, knowledgeable, and very reasonably priced (even for me that survives off student aid and odd jobs). I greatly appreciated that Hi took the time to show me exactly what was going on with my car, including diagnostics. I would definitely take my car here again.

Hi Auto is the mosts honest, thorough, knowledgeable, skilled mechanic in San Diego. We have been taking our cars to Hi Auto since we moved to San Diego in 2001. We have routinely received excellent service at prices below those charged by other mechanics. Not only that, Hi gives every customer red carpet treatment-​he performs tests and continuously thinks of every possible way to repair the car for the lowest price possible. If Hi tells you that you need work, you know that you need it. He’s the only mechanic I know who looks for ways not to do work on your car. The lives of our cars have been extended by the good work done by Hi Auto. I would not consider going to another auto repair store in San Diego

Lola (my bestie blue Honda Civic EX coupe since 2001 when I got her for my 16^th birthday) was a hot mess like a co-​ed you would see walking the streets of Gaslamp at 1am on a Friday night. She needed an oil change, the rubber underneath her front bumper was dragging on the ground. On top of that, as I was waiting for my friend, her check engine light popped on.

Thanks to a friend’s recommendation, Hi Auto Repair saved the day. I was able to walk in without an appointment. My car was seen and repaired promptly. Hi explained to me step by step what was going on. Turns out my gas cap was broken, causing the gas vapors to light the check engine indicator. He changed my oil, also filled my transmission fluid since it was running low, and fixed the rubber underneath my bumper. All this for under $ 100.
Friendly, personable, and reasonably priced, I will definitely come here again if I need car service!

We brought my girlfriend’s Honda civic here for front brake repair.
Hi beat the dealer’s price by $ 150+, staff was very personable and we got the car back in under 2 hours.

I’ve taken my cars here for about 5 years and have always had a good experience — Subarus, Ford, Isuzu… Hi (the owner) is always helpful in telling you exactly what is wrong, showing you the broken piece or loose part if it’s hard to describe. He’s good too about being careful with your money. He’ll let you know if he thinks you can get by with an inexpensive repair, and explains whether it may be wort it or not to do something more extensive — lets you decide what you want. Things get fixed quickly and right. If there’s a followup adjustment, they’re happy to do it.
A lot of the work is done on outdoor lifts, under open canopies. I’ve always wondered if this is why it works better here — seems much more pleasant for the mechanics than being deep in some repair bay (here reserved for delicate repairs, it seems).
I take my cars down there even though it’s a pain to get to from where I live, just because they’re the only mechanics I trust.

Hi is a super great guy! Today was my first time at a mechanic since moving from AZ, and I’ll definitely come back next time. 2 of my housemates recommended him as cheep, honest, and fast. They were right.
My truck was stuck in open loop with a super low, rough idle. Also, a blown fuse for the computer (which I never would have caught) was keeping the check engine light from turning on and keeping the computer from give codes. I’m no mechanic, so without codes I’m stuck. Within about 3 hours, though, Hi figured out and fixed the computer problem, replaced the thermostat and upstream O2 sensor to get it working in closed loop, and cleaned the throttle body to fix its idle.
The truck went from dangerous and barely working to perfect, and cost ~$ 400 total, which is quite a deal. He bid for both O2 sensors, but fixed it after replacing just one. A less honest guy would have replaced and charged me for both anyway.
If you’re like me and want to know everything that’s going on he’ll answer all your questions very politely, although he can be a bit had to understand sometimes.
Overall, great place and a great experience. A+
