I stopped by here to get some help with my tires and Joe and Ruben were so helpful. I will def come back if I need help in the future.

I’m the biggest skeptic when it comes to repair shops because of all the horrible experiences I’ve had. I only came here because my brother said he trusted Midas overall… so I gave it a shot, and I’m glad I did.
Got my brake pads replaced here. My baby was screaching so bad, I even had to plug my ears when I drove. The guy who helped me was helpful and let me know about good deals/​discounts/​the works! This is also down the street from my house, so it’s convenient and even the owner was nice. Glad they didn’t try to sell me services I know I didn’t need!

I initially wrote a negative review for this location. Upon getting my car back from a smog check, my check engine light was on. When I asked why they said I would have to get an additional diagnosis to find the issue. Understandably, I was not happy with that response. Later that day the owner contacted me about my experience and offered his personal help. Although I was not happy with my initial experiences I respect the effort of the owner to rectify my issue.

You better have deep pockets.. That’s all I’m gonna say. If you don’t know anything about vehicles, you’re going to be taken advantage of. End of story.
Thank god I know enough that a part doesn’t cost 8 X’s the price they tried to charge me; And apparently labor is $ 350/​hour. We used to take all of our vehicles here but the staff /​Managment/​owner must have changed because there is ZERO ETHICS instilled at this shop.
I can’t imagine any other shop being worse than this, so just keep driving; you will be better off.

*Mike: while I can appreciate your intentions on mitigating this bad experience my girlfriend and I had with your shop, please keep in mind that a review is just that. A review. So let me clarify;
(1) my name is not in your database because it was my girlfriends vehicle I was bringing in.
(2) the part we were quoted for I bought on Amazon for $ 29.99. While our estimate (verbal quote) from your shop employee was $ 109 +tax. You can argue that this never happened sure; but there is an obvious reason we didn’t agree to have our vehicle repaired with you guys. Don’t ya think?
(3) The total quote for parts and labor was $ 475 (again. Verbal quote by your associate) so I guess my $ 350/​hr was slightly off.. It would be $ 366: hour. And I only say hour because it literally took me 15 minutes to install the part in in front of your shop on the side of the road after you closed that night.
(4) when I returned to get our keys for the vehicle we got some lovely song and dance as to why we were being quoted so much and that the parts were genuine and the labor more intensive than what we might think. Once I finished listening to the man talk, I got in the vehicle and drove it away.
Mike: I appreciate your intentions to clarify the situation but we DID have a horrible experience at your shop. We found it unprofessional and unethical. I hope my clarifying of the situation eases your uncertainty, but in this case it might have been better for you to have just left my review alone… Because as we see above. The details can be quite ugly.

I’ve been to this Midas 3 times since moving to San Diego. Eulyses definitely stands out in my mind. He provided excellent service each time and was very helpful and fair. Thank you!

Was recently there with my girlfriend and experienced excellent and honest service. Eulises was professional and helpful in getting her brakes checked and fixed. Highly recommend working with him.

I’ve been here twice since moving to San Diego, just for oil and filter changes and tire rotations. Quick turn-​around times. Super friendly service. The last time I was here, I had a long and genuine conversation with Greg, and talked to the other associate who somehow remembered I was a teacher from a convo months before. Can’t comment on the car service because nothing major has been done, but my experience with customer service has been good.

Don’t believe him! I talked to the owner Michael numerous times on the phone while in Montana about letting me get the vehicle out of there free of charge (as promised) as soon as I got back to San Diego and he would not allow it. He kept saying «Oh, management has cameras in my store and is demanding I charge you a storage fee»… I also tried to get paid $ 1500+ for my 2007 Dodge Nitro SXT with under 100k miles (Kelly Blue Book that and see it was worth more than $ 1500 even with engine repair needed) and he said «NO WAY» would he pay more than $ 1k, it just wasn’t worth it. BUT… now he says that I «realized» after I sold it to him I sold it to him for too cheap. HE IS THE ONE WHO WOULD NOT BUDGE AT ALL ON SELLING PRICE. His comment alone is verification that he is a scam artist that is not willing to work with customers in their best interest ~ only HIS best interest.
Check my Unilocal reviews, I rarely (if ever) write anything bad about companies. But this is one you should be aware of, that is why Unilocal exists.
The only reason I posted this Unilocal review in the first place is because I saw that he had LIED TO ME about fixing the vehicle up for his daughter and that he sold it to a family (surely for a good profit).
You need a quick oil change or tire rotation, you will probably escape problem free. You need anything more significant, take it somewhere you know the people will look out for your best interest. Midas in PB is NOT THAT PLACE.

Worst smog experience I’ve ever had, they refused to smog my car and was very rude about it, a bunch of untrained mechanics who obviously have no idea what there doing or talking about. I wouldn’t even let them check my tire pressures

My gas gage broke so I didn’t realize I was out. I thought my car broke down soo I called a tow to midas. Bill and Eulise were very nice and helpful. They were able to figure out the problem right away. Thank you guys for being helpful and honest.

Been here a few times for a quick oil change. I’ve never had any problems here. Until recently. My check engine light came on. The diagnostic test came back that my spark plugs needed to be replaced and coils 3 and 5 needed to be replaced. Grand total of $ 992. I thought that was rather high so I decided to get a second opinion from a friend who is a mechanic. He let me know that was outrageously high. So I called another shop and they said same problems were wrong and could repair everything with the same parts ordered for $ 500 which included labor fees. I told the manager at Midas this price and he said he could bring my $ 992 down to $ 750 but that would be the lowest he could go. Obviously right then and there I knew I was being ripped off. I walked in to get my car and he tried to charge me $ 100 diagnostic fee which is usually $ 30-​$ 40 elsewhere. Never going back.

Best place for women to go. Guys are super nice. Got in, out, and an honest report on my car without anyone pushing me to do anything! My new place in PB for all things car related.

Worst experience ever. Where do I begin with this tale of incompetence and shady business practices? I noticed that I had a bulg on the sidewall of my tire, a Bridgestone Potenza RE050A Run Flat, and decided that I would go in to get the tire replaced. I stopped by and was told that it would be covered without a problem, however, I would have to wait because they had to order them. After waiting for a week, I went in to have my tire replaced and had to wait for over an hour and a half. This would have been acceptable if the replacement tire actually showed up to the store.
Instead of the tire showing up, the owner decided to. The owner, let’s call him Joe, spent some time trying to explain why the tire could not be replaced. He furnished a warranty manual upon request. Page 33 of the Bridgestone Firestone Tire Maintenance, Safety and Warranty Manual states what the manufacturers warranty does not cover.
The Limited Warranty does not cover the following:
1. Tire damage or irregular wear due to:
A. ROAD HAZARDS, including, without limitation: Puncture, cut, impact break, stone drill, bruise, BULGE, snag, etc.
Okay, I get it. Much to my dismay, the manufacturers warranty does not cover road hazards. We had determined that I must have hit a pothole because the damage occurred to the DRIVER SIDE REAR TIRE. There is no damage to the wheel and the chances of my hitting a curb is extremely slim. I pointed out that as we do drive on the right side of the road here, it must have been a pothole. Joe stated that there are no potholes here in San Diego, I laughed and merely pointed at the road that his Midas was on in order to show him how smooth and perfect the roads are in San Diego. Unfortunately, the road by his Midas wasn’t a good representation of his idea of the roads here. Oh well, guess you can’t win them all!
Joe was kind enough to tell me that he would try to do something for me but can’t make any promises. I was repeatedly told that road hazards are not covered. I guess his the original employee who sold the tire, sold it to me at a few dollars above cost. I didn’t realize his cost on a tire was $ 431, now i see why he has to resort to shady antics to procure business. Oh wait a minute, I just found the same tire at
for $ 346. I am not sure where you acquired your supplier but I found you a more cost effective one, FREE OF CHARGE! That one is on the house buddy!
After leaving empty handed and disappointed, I decided to take a look at the receipt and found a pleasant surprise. I am sure those of you who are reading are wondering what it could be? Oh look, road hazard insurance was included in the bill of sale! Maybe my eyes were deceiving me, I had to get some verification. I had the invoice emailed to me and there it was, ROAD HAZARD! Surely this would clear up any issue or confusion regarding the BULGE (if you forgot, a bulge is included with ROAD HAZARD, as stated above and in the Warranty Manual).
Upon notifying Joe, I was told some other reason regarding why he was not obligated to honor the terms of the original sale. Way to do business. If only there were some rules to protect consumers from this sort of deceit! OH WAIT!!! The B&P 17 200 and the California Consumer Legal Remedies Act does cover this sort of fraudulent misrepresentation.

I have contacted Midas Corporate and hopefully they can get to the bottom of this matter since the owner and I are not seeing eye to eye on this matter. The owner and I seem to have different views on what is acceptable as a road hazard. His opinion obviously supersedes that of the Bridgestone Firestone Tire Maintenance, Safety and Warranty Manual. Hopefully you can give them the updated version once they contact you.
I will update this review pending the outcome of this situation. In the mean time, I will continue to make my friends aware of the best auto spot in PB.

I’m not typically one to write a bad review… These are nice Guys, that being said, don’t be fooled… 3 problems I encountered with these guys:
1) First off, I went in for tires, I was told my brakes needed to be replaced, fair enough I trusted they could do it, after their work my brake fluid reservoir leaked and the «awesome» new brake pads installed were squishy. When the brake pedal is pushed all the way to the floor the truck does not stop nearly as good as it did with the previous brake pads, took back 3 times and they would/​could NOT fix anything. Nor would they swap the pads for a decent pair.
2) Oil Change, I recently had my oil changed at Jiffy, I was brought down under the lift to be shown how my oil drain bolt was stripped the last time it was put in, ONLY could have been Midas as they did the previous change and forced the threads back in at a slanted angle, probably with an air gun to speed up the process, hence the stripped bolt. Made for a headache to fix this one without furthering the damage.
3) Never let them weld anything. I had a simple bracket welded 3x by these guys and it continually broke after about a month. Had it professionally done by someone who knows how to weld and it has never come apart since…
Case and point, go somewhere else, they can’t even change oil without screwing something up. The work is shoddy at best.

Went there for a smog. MY car failed and they handed to me paper work with weird numbers and highlighted things saying that I need thousands of $$$$ repairs!
Next day went to a place in La Mesa and guys who did a smog there got completely different numbers on the paper. Explained to me what might be wrong with the car. All I had to do is get a new PCV Valve for 3.75 dollars and I had a lose hose that needed to be adjusted. And after fixing that the car passed the smog
This place just need your money!!! And they lie!!!

Incredible, thorough service. They even stayed past 5pm to finish my car so I can hit the road the next morning (holiday). Marco showed me under the good and exactly what I needed so I understand and know what I’m paying for. Service unlike any other mechanics I’ve seen. I highly recommend them and will only go back to them from now on. It’s a relief to find a shop I can trust and get that warm and fuzzy feeling I’ve been wAnting for a long time as a vehicle owner.

They have a new shop management team in place which was a dream to work with. I had originally visited there in Dec 2013 and had a so-​so experience at best. Yesterday a «beeping brake light» warning came on a block away from their shop. I spoke with Marco (on just his 2^nd day) and he went out of his way to make sure i got squared up. I was so confident/​comfortable in their team i decided to have them do some of the work they recommended back in December (but i did not feel comfortable doing at the time). Good stuff!!!
P. S. Back in December i did have a bad feeling about being upsold and taken advantage of but not with the guys they have on board now.

They changed the oil on my truck and did a good job. I use my own synthetic oil, and they had no problem with it. Then I just brought another car by a month later and they told me outside «parts» were not allowed. I wouldn’t really consideer oil an «outside part.» Well they were just a month ago! I don’t like places that change their policies depending on which way the wind is blowing. Won’t be back.
Now they are saying they have «no copy of my service record.» What a joke. I brought my car in for an oil change and they suggested $ 1400 in repairs. That should definitely be on record, and if it isn’t that means they keep poor records and cannot be trusted.

Man, I wish I had read these reviews before going there. This place is horrible. The manager is a complete douche that kept giving me lip service about how they could lose their SMOG license if they didn’t do everything by the book. They didn’t trust me when I told them my car and mods were CARB legal even though I’ve had the same car SMOGed successfully at other spots for the last dozen years without any of these bull$!t issues. Seriously, pass on this store. Go anywhere else, there’s plenty of friendlier spots with better management. Never again Midas.
