Pacific Beach Foreign & Domestic Car Repair has been in the San Diego auto repair service business since 1981. Our team of knowledgeable technicians and master mechanics provide the highest quality of automotive repair service to our customers. History

Established in 1991.

Owner George Rotgans was born in Holland, raised as a San Diegan in Pacific Beach and graduated from Mission Bay High School in 1968. George has been an avid surfer since his youth and, at one point, was a Professional Paddle Board Champion. George started working on cars in 1964. The first cars that he started working on were Mercedes, then BMW, and then Mazdas for the Mazda Dealership. After years of working for big dealerships, George decided to open his own business.

Pacific Beach Foreign & Domestic Car Repair was opened in 1981. With over 30 years of experience, we we have helped thousands of local residents as the leader in San Diego Auto Repair. Additionally, we are a proud member of the BBB and are ASE certified.

Meet the Manager

Aaron R.

Manager

While in high school, Aaron, George’s son, starting helping his father around the shop and has become a specialist in car repair and running the family business. Aaron was born and raised in Pacific and graduated from La Jolla High School in 1991. Aaron has been an avid surfer since his youth and has been raised around cars and car repair his entire life. Surfing and Auto Repair are two passions in his life.

Aaron and the entire staff at Pacific Beach Foreign & Domestic Car Repair strive to provide excellent service that exceeds the expectations of our loyal customers. These Guys are outstanding, I took a car I was thinking about buying to get checked out. Eric took a look at the car and found many flaws he didn’t charge me for his time and saved me from waisting my money. They will be my go to guys in the future, they are honest and know what they are doing I would recommend them to anyone who needs a great mechanic !!!

This is the best place for service of my vehicle. I used to go to the dealer and I was never treated like a friend. Here I am treated like I am visiting friends who will take care of a member of my family. I can trust PB Foreign and they are as concerned about the safety of my vehicle as I am.

I went here last week because my car wouldn’t start. AAA was able to jump start my car and follow me to this place. Obviously there was something wrong with the battery. However, my engine didn’t sound right.
I left it there and received a call a couple days later and he said «Hey, so why did you bring your car to us?» And I said «Well I broke down and it sounds like it’s going to stall at every stop light.» He said, «Well after you drove it through the puddles in the rain, it didn’t work right.» I even told him when I dropped it off that I didn’t drive through puddles since I didn’t want to get stuck like other people in the rain. Anyways he said I can pick up the car even though it keeps stalling.
I picked the car up and went and bought a new battery. It still did the same thing it did before. I was able to get it to my father and he noticed 2 minutes later that there was a hole in the air tube that feeds into the engine which is why I was stalling.
These guys never even looked at my engine and blamed me for running through puddles and making me feel bad for wasting their time. I understand it gets busy I was just very disappointed in that phone call. I work in customer service and I get how customers are, however, I didn’t feel like I needed to be treated that way.

This is a long overdue review of a shop that is always genuine and willing to work with me on any issue I’ve had (and I’ve had many!) with my vehicle. The guys are awesome, reliable, honest, and always kind. I’m used to working on vehicles with my dad and only going to the shop if absolutely necessary. I feel like I can trust these guys being on the other side of the country from my at home mechanic.

I’ve been a loyal customer since 2002. I know nothing about cars, so it would be easy to take advantage of me. I trust George and Aaron completely. On numerous occasions, they told me that my car didn’t need work. I wouldn’t have known and they could have made a lot of money from me. My car is always ready the same day I bring it in. My new Beemer is under warranty, but once it’s no longer under the warranty, I plan to return to PB Foreign, rather than BMW of San Diego.

This place is amazing! The service was more than exceptional and so was the price! This shop has a small town feel because of how personable they are. These guys are great and I’m so glad they’re in the neighborhood. I’ve now taken my car here twice. First time was major and they had it ready in a day for SO much less than a dealership would have charged. The second visit was minor and I was outta there in 5min with a bill for $ 5 because they checked my oil and it was low. Awesome place… Thanks guys.

I had a problem with my Toyota Corolla with a quote of $ 300 to replace the «air box» portion of the engine air cleaner system. Aaron came up with a fix for about 5% of that quote. Thank you, Aaron! They are great!

Excellent, fast, affordable, and friendly service! This place was fantastic. I took my car here to have the headlights replaced (which required the bumper to be removed), and they replaced it with no problem!
I can’t remember the person who helped me, but he was an older, tall, good-​looking gentleman with gray hair. He was so nice & had my car ready in a few hours.
I had called many mechanic shops, but a lot of places couldn’t service my car, so when I found this place & saw how nice/​helpful they were, I was beyond thrilled!
I’ll definitely be coming back for any further auto needs.

PB Foreign is absolutely the best! I have been bringing my older VW Touareg here for about three years now. George and Aaron, along with their mechanics, are first extremely friendly and trustworthy. They take the time to explain things and the pricing is very reasonable.
I have always had an excellent experience with PB Foreign but today’s visit made me want to rave about them on Unilocal.I have had brake work done previously at PB Foreign and knew what to expect so when my brake light went on, I just assumed that either front or rear brakes needed to be replaced. I brought my car into PB Foreign this morning and Aaron mentioned that I would be looking at around $ 300 for the brakes. No problem, exactly what I expected. I went to pick up my car a few hours later as I had to be at work. Aaron told me to hold on and asked his mechanic to get «that sensor from my car». Uh-​Oh I thought… was it a bigger issue? They both showed me the damaged sensor and Aaron looked at me and said «you owe us nothing today. Your brakes are fine. It was just a bad sensor that we replaced. WOW!!! Talk about taking care of your customers! I would have easily paid the $ 300 and left without a clue that it was just a sensor. It’s great to see that there are still honest people in this world who are not just after money.
These guys are the best that there is and I guarantee you will not be disappointed with their work or service.

It is hard to trust a mechanic with your car when you are a female– you don’t know if what they are telling you is wrong with your car is accurate or they are just trying to make extra money of your ignorance. Well let me tell you that all my fears have gone away since I’ve been taking my car to George. They are so sweet and trustworthy! I feel comfortable with their quotes and my car always leaves the shop with no issue. I highly recommend the shop and I know you will love it too!

I had two major repairs done here. The first one was my radiator being replaced. Everything went well and the price was excellent! Now my second repair was my break pads being replaced. They replaced them and the price was great as well… less than 6 months later I was driving on the freeway and my right break pad broke off my tire and almost caused me to crash while I was exiting the freeway. I had to have my car towed, call in sick to work that day… Had my car towed to mieneke in pacific beach. They told me when I had my breaks done, the bolt was not correctly put back on, causing the caliper (which holds your break pad on) to break off! Cost me $ 300. I took these repairs bill to PB Foreign car repair and they did refund me. When I received the refund, they were VERY rude and nasty to me. Excuse me? It was YOUR mistake.
Anyway they are a great little shop BUT I am putting 1 star for poor attention to detail in their mechanics and rudeness. The younger guy who works there forgot the make of my car and where he parked there. He almost gave me someones mustang to take home. Hmm… Pay attention!

By far the best oil change experience I’ve ever had.
I stopped in, hoping they had a spot available in the afternoon. In less than an hour, I was driving out of the parking lot. Everyone that was working was extremely nice and professional.
Will definitely be back.
