Welcome to the Oil Changer on Yelp. Oil Changer, Inc. (the «Company») and its affiliates have developed an automotive fast oil change concept based on convenience, quality, and service. Each of the company’s no-​appointment-​necessary services is provided on a drive-​through basis. The first Oil Changer facility was opened in Northern California in September 1986 and the organization currently consists of 34 facilities in the regions of San Francisco, San Diego, and Fresno. All Oil Changer facilities are located in major California markets because of the tremendous opportunities for growth provided by these markets. Just stopped in here because of the great Unilocal reviews and because I only live a few blocks away. Although I expected a quick 15 minute oil change, I was turned away because I have a 2012 Toyota Yaris and was told the only oil change service they could perform was $ 74 for the «full synthetic».
I was told my car requires synthetic oil. I mentioned that every other place I’ve ever had the oil changed has never required this, including the dealership. Kind of disappointed when the response was «you can go to the dealership if you want.»
Just got home and looked in the manual for my car, which reads:
Engine oil selection
«Toyota Genuine Motor Oil» is used in your Toyota vehicle. Use
Toyota approved «Toyota Genuine Motor Oil» or equivalent to satisfy
the following grade and viscosity.
Oil grade: ILSAC multigrade engine oil
Recommended viscosity: SAE 5W-​30
Am I confused? Where does this mention synthetic requirement?

Just bought a used car and was unsure of its last oil change. Brought it here, cause of its location and reviews. Glad we did! Not only were they honest enough to tell us that we didn’t need an oil change, they continued to top off the fluids and clean the wind shield ALL for no charge! Cory and the female co-​worker both ROCK!!! We’ll definitely be back in 3500 miles…

Great service! They check your head lights, tire pressure and clean your windows on top of the oil change for free! Usually call before coming to check the wait since the lot is small and only so many cars fit. Overall great experience every time!

No appointment needed. I’ve been here multiple times now & the service has been great each time. Very quick & efficient. The guys here are friendly & answer any questions you may have; furthermore, they don’t pressure you to purchase any additional products/​services. Highly recommended!

I always get great service from the staff here. I’ve been using The Oil Changers for at least six years. They never try to up sell me on anything I don’t need. When my oil is still going strong– instead of just silently taking my money away, they let me know I have another thousand miles left, or whatever it may be. I really trust the staff when they do make a recommendation and they always explain what is needed in a way I can understand, without feeling like they are talking down to me or that I am dumb (which I am when it comes to cars).
Today I went in, and even though it was miserably cold and rainy the young woman running the shop greeted me with a big smile and helped me get my giant boat of a van into the oil changing bay. After checking everything out we found that I didn’t need an oil change today, but I was a little low, so she topped off my oil, aired up the tires and she sent me on my way with no charge. As always– I felt well taken care of by the team here. I always recommend them to my friends and family when they want no BS, a fair price and great customer service.

The past few times I have received an oil change, I have come into this location. I am extremely happy with the service here. They are both friendly, and get the job done quickly. They let me know the issues going on with my car, as well as let me know what would be my first, second, and third priority to fix. I haven’t once felt pressured into getting anything fixed right then and there, which is something that I extremely appreciate.

Came on a weekday around 6pm and there was a ~45 min wait. I actually brought my bf’s car for an oil change but when they took a look at the oil, I was actually recommended that the oil level looked fine and was not due for a change yet. Seems like a very honest business. I’ll be returning when an oil change is due.

By far the best place I go to get my oil change or any maintenance needed for my car. I recently moved to Mira Mesa and found out about their location in poway. No matter which location you go to, you get the same great service. Karl and Jonny at poway oil changers are seriously my new best mechanics! Why I love them so much you ask? They don’t try and hustle you for your money and offer you things you don’t need right at that point. They know services can cost a leg and arm and they really do have your best interest when helping you out. I just bought my service card so you know I’ll be back! thanks Karl and Jonny! :)

$ 33 with the $ 5 coupon. Oil and filter change. Blend. A wholesale brand that all Oil Changers use, apparently. They also top off your other fluids and check tire pressures. They’ll also go through your lights. There’s no waiting room here; I’m told people usually wait in their car. Not busy at all 830am on a Thursday. 30min tops. Cory and Eric were excellent. They also offer other services that they’ll offer probably on a case by case basis. They also offer a 10% military discount if you engage them for more expensive services.
Pro tip: Stand by the driveway apron toward the east and you’ll hook up to the free wireless from Denny’s across the street.

After Jiffy Lube (up the road) tried to lube me up for an $ 80 oil change, I pulled up my pants and headed quickly down El Cajon to check out Oil Changers.
What a difference. Sharp, super nice and very fairly priced. They check your lights, fluids, filters and tire pressure in addition to oil. I added on some services on top of the basic change and still got out 40% cheaper than the lube jobbers up the road.
Tis my new «go to» place for oil changes.

This is my go to oil changing spot. They have military discounts which is a big plus for me and it’s not too far from my place.
I think the best time to go here is an hour before they close because they’re never usually busy around that time. I went during the afternoon once, and I had to wait for someone ahead of me.
The oil change never takes long — just about 20ish minutes? Not gonna lie, I never look at the time so I’m just guessing here but it doesn’t take long. The guys are friendly enough.

These guys deserve your business! We came in around noon on a Sunday. We were told immediately that they only have two guys working on Sunday so there would be a wait. Thanks for that! We waited. When it was our turn Corey took a look at the oil dip stick and told us our oil looked perfect. He was willing to change it but it would look the same with the new oil. He checked over his check list and everything was tight and fluid levels were good. No charge. Very nice guys, seemed very thorough in the work we watched them doing.

I got super LUCKY and only had 1 car in front of me when I pulled up on a Friday. Very nice & professional staff! The things that stood out:
1) A lady technician greeted me & who knew her stuff. She seemed right at home with the fellas (you go girl!).
2) You sit in your car the whole time they do the change. Very different but I kinda like it!
Full service here! Including my windows washed and tire pressure check! The techs checked my air filters and RECOMMENDED getting a change by my next oil change. No PUSHY GUILT ridden up-​selling here. I hate when techs do that.
Another tech told me issues they found. One that shocked me! The last place I went to put in a bolt that they shouldn’t have put in because there were NO THREADS on it! It could’ve fallen out at anytime!
Bottom line, I like this spot and will be back.
Being able to sit in my car you get to hear the funny banter between the techs and they all have a very good rapport about them. They’re pretty funny actually

Go here. Trust me. These guys are legit. I went in there when my service engine light came on. NEVER before did I ever expect a mechanic to say «You don’t need an oil change, it’s full and looks perfect.» WHA… Wait. Huh? Wait a minute. How come your not trying to sell me a transmission service package, an engine coolant flush and a gas treatment and anything else you can think of under the sun to charge me hundreds of dollars. Nope, the guys there checked my fluids and sent me on my way. NO CHARGE! And no guilt trip because I didn’t spend $ 179 for some scare tactic designed to suck money off of me. Goodbye Jiffy Lube. (Because one needs lube when they go there)
I was so stoked, I bought them lunch and told them I would be back in a 1,000 miles.

I never felt compelled to write a review for an oil change until now, that’s how pleasant an experience I had here today!
First price is great, equal to any other chain around here but they include a pretty thorough check of your lights, brakes, tires and air pressure with that price which puts them ahead of jiffy lube (who charge extra for that).
But what I honestly liked the most was that all I had to do was wait in my car. Let’s face it, waiting rooms at most car places aren’t the hot spots where everyone wants to be, so it was nice to be able to relax in my own car and observe the work being done, and even participate when needed.
They offer a few other services besides just an oil change, so you can knock out a few things there with just one stop. And service was excellent! The guy who helped me out today even went above and beyond when I asked if it was possible to find an extra screw for the one that had fallen out of my license plate. I appreciated it so so much for the fact it saved me a trip to home depot just for a little damn screw.
tl;dr you’re gonna pay the same amount, so come here instead for better service and a nice 20 mins!

When I moved to Hillcrest, I was worried about leaving the Jiffy Lube because I’d been going to one for years in La Mesa. Then I remembered, I hate Jiffy Lube. Every time I’d go they’d give me a freaking lecture about how my car needed this and that. Which would have been fine, if they weren’t so rude about it. It was about they way they said it; it was so condescending. I don’t know why I continued to go there for the abuse lol.
This place is the exact opposite, they are helpful and offer advice in a constructive way. I also called 15 minutes before they closed when I got off work to ask if they would take me (my oil light turned on that day) and they said even if I was there at 7pm they would take me. When I arrived, they did so and were polite, efficient, and got the job quickly. This is now my new oil change spot. I really like this place!

wanted to give these guys kudos: Yesterday I brought my car in for an oil change, however upon inspection I was told I didn’t need a change for another 2,000 miles because I rarely drive my car. Instead of performing an unnecessary service for a profit, they were honest and ethical with me. Thanks to everyone here for their honesty.
I’m also a repeat customer and the crew always does a great job.
One aspect of this business which I like is they’ll also show you the oil dipstick after your service so you can see that the oil is fresh and the job was completed.
