I’ve been waiting more than a month to write this review because this place has been holding my brand new Diane Von Furstenberg dress hostage! I brought two dresses here for a basic cleaning in November. I’d never used them but they’re in a convenient location and how hard can a simple cleaning be? Apparently, much harder than I ever imagined… When I came back a week later to get my dresses, one was done but they said my Furstenberg dress needed another process? There was a bit of a language barrier but I got the gist that something else had to be done and I should come back in another week. A week(or more) later I went back and the lady showed me some new whitish stripes on the back of my dress. It looks like they somehow stripped the silk? Anyway, she said she’d ordered a special product to fix it and she’d call me when it was done. Ok, obviously at this point I’ve realized they ruined my dress on the first run and are now giving me the runaround. But I gave them one more shot. Finally, a month later, I just went and insisted they give it to me. It’s a new designer dress. $ 300. Ruined. All they said was, «Sorry. Silk is delicate.» Um, yeah… that’s why it needs to be dry cleaned. And I’ve had lots of silk cleaned with no problem. Anyway, I don’t know what recourse I have to recoup the money for the damages. But at least I can tell everyone NOT to use these people if you want your clothes to remain intact.

I’ve always had a good experience at One Day Cleaners. I’ve been using them for many years(20 plus). I’m sure if something goes wrong people are much more likely to write a bad review for a service like dry cleaning but I would not hesitate to use this business. She is a nice older woman and is always very friendly. English is her second language but it is not a problem. I haven’t done a ton of reviews but I noticed the ratings when looking up on Unilocal and I feel like it is not representative of this business at all. They would not have been here for as long as they have if they were two stars worthy.

The last straw for me. I have taken stuff here three times. Every time I do the service gradually gets worse. Last time I couldn’t pick up my clothes, because they decided to open late on a Saturday. This time I brought in 3 pants and one sweater that were supposed to be done on Saturday. On Saturday, my boyfriend picked up two of the pants because the others weren’t going to be finished until Wednesday. Wednesday? That means you had my items for an entire week! The two items he was able to take home on Saturday were supposed to be altered. They weren’t. They had been cleaned, which apparently they do in order to alter them, but they weren’t altered so why did this happen? When I went to pick up my other items I was given a bill for everything to be dry cleaned and the two items sewn. While I understood she didn’t charge me for sewing the two items she forgot to. She did charge me to clean them, which I didn’t ask for. So I was trying to explain that she unnecessarily charged me, but she didn’t get it at all. Apparently she thought it was good practice that after you did not complete the service agreed upon and the ones you did complete were 4 days late, I should not be expected to pay in full and then pay for things I didn’t ask for. People screw up sometimes, I get that. However, if you have the opportunity to right your wrong, do it. I can’t do business with shady, unreliable characters. I hope that $ 6 was worth losing a customer, who spends around $ 50 or more in dry cleaning and alterations a month. Add all my friends and family to that and that $ 6 starts to really seem like nothing.

Let me start by saying this is only the second time I have ‘yelped’ because I only do so when I am very angry. I realize this isn’t fair but that’s life. I came to One Day Cleaners because I needed a suit and a few dress shirts dry cleaned by the next day. Based on the name I assumed they did this. I brought the cloths in early on Monday morning and she said she could have them by Tuesday afternoon. This was fine because I didn’t need them until Wednesday morning. I picked up the cloths and she charged $ 15 for a suit and two shirts, which I thought was very reasonable. I put the clothes in my car drove home and then put them in my closet. Enter Wednesday morning. I am getting ready for a very important interview(the reason I had the suit cleaned) and as I go to put on my pants I notice a rip down the center of the left pocket. This wasn’t a small tear, it was pretty large gash. This made me fairly upset because now not only did I not have a clean suit to wear to the interview, my favorite suit is ruined. This isn’t a suit from Men’s Warehouse we are talking about, it is an $ 800 Hugo Boss suit. I went to get an explanation from the lady who operates the store. She said she always checks before they accept clothes to check for rips, so we determined it happened sometime between when I dropped it off and Wednesday morning. However, she denied any wrong doing and said she would have seen the rip and told me about it. Anyways, she refused to even negotiate any compensation and was steadfastly refused doing anything wrong. She claims she has never had anything rip since she owned the store and her machine would never rip anything. I suppose there is a possibility that I ripped the suit but it’s not in a spot where it would normally rip and it’s not like the suit is too small. So if you have something expensive to clean I wouldn’t bring it here.

Be careful here. The lady that runs this place did a great job with my Fluff N Fold, but she overcharged me. When I went to pick it up she charged me for 15 pounds, which sounded like a lot to me at the time, but I really had no idea. Sure enough, I went home and weighed my laundry and it was only 11 pounds.

There is nothing super special about this dry cleaning place, but they charge reasonable prices, and they do both dry cleaning and alterations. If you need special alterations done by a certain day, they do a fantastic job with the alteration and in meeting a deadline. The lady who works at One Day Cleaners is super sweet. I had my halloween costume altered by her since I had to buy it in a size large, and I’m an extra small. I only had a week until the Halloween party, and she was able to get it to me a day or two prior to the party, and it fit me just the way I had imagined! Today, I took my dress for my law school ball and told her that I needed it by Thursday because my ball is on Saturday. She told me it won’t be a problem at all. I’ll keep you posted on how the dress turns out, but I know it’s going to be just fine. Ahhh! Can’t wait!
