I contacted Steve and he came out the next morning to give us a quote. Not only was his professionalism and knowledge impressive but his bid was $ 300 lower than the other company we had gotten a bid from. A few days later the fumigation process began and everything went smoothly! I highly recommend ProEx!

Steve at Pro Ex absolutely deserves all the five star reviews. I had seen the reviews here on Unilocal and frankly since I have never needed this kind of service before and didn’t really know where to start, using Unilocal as my reference point made all the difference in the world. From the first phone call where he patiently answered all my questions to the speedy response, estimating the cost and time etc and then to the completion of the work I have been entirely delighted. Not only were they incredibly careful with the roof tiles and all the plants around the outside of the house, the price couldn’t have been better. A friend told me that he had had an estimate for his house, slightly smaller than mine, from a different company that was just over double what I paid. Steve gave a discount for paying by check or cash a week before the work is done and that helped. Also, the workers who showed up to do the work were punctual, polite, efficient and careful with my property. I would recommend this company to everyone without reservation. Oh and they give a four year guarantee. Don’t expect to see them again until well after that though. But they will certainly be my go-​to company from now on.

I spoke with Steve a couple weeks ago, after I had a termite inspection from one of the big pest control companies. I didn’t require treatment, but I was being advised to get an insurance plan for over $ 600 a year. Steve gave me the low down on termites and that jived with my own research. He also educated me on pest control services. Following his advice I am going to save nearly $ 1000 annually, a portion of which I can set aside for that day when I will need to tent the home. And at that time I will be contacting Steve. I appreciate his honest and straightforward manner.

We had termites, did allot of research and received several quotes for the job. My last quote was from Steve at ProEx. Steve came out (cool guy) no pressure, tons of usefull info, gave me the price right then (cheaper than anyone else). Steve is the middle man he hires Statewide fumigation as does all the other companies like Lloyds, Corkeys, etc… Lloyds was $ 1500, Corkies was $ 1350, steve was $ 965. Steve has a small overhead and passes that cost reduction onto you. so for paying less I got the same service from the same company that the BIG guys use… and the same guarantee (4yrs)…Steve walked us through each step, not hidding anything, shows you how to bag food, what food needs to be removed, etc, etc. SDG&E will have to shut off your gas and the fumigator will be responsible for scheduing. It Is the home owners responsibility to call SDG&E to schedule the gas to be turned back on and Steve will be adimate on his instrcution to you on this… Thanks Steve
Statewide came out Tuesday morning to start the tenting, I came back home Tuesday evening to check on the house (cause theives do target tented homes) and noticed they sorta trashed my landscaping. I got pissed called steve and within 1 hr I had the head dude at Statewide fumigation calling me and said it WILL be put back the way it was. Thursday came along and the house got un-​tented, the crew called me to met them to inspect the house. I didnt have to say a word, they fixed it all and to be honest… it looks better than the way they found it.

This review is long overdue. I called ProEx in December of 2013. Steve visited me on a Thursday and the tenting crew took care of me the following Monday. Our appointment was scheduled at 8:00am and he was at my door at 7:59am. Steve of ProEx is a straight shooter. There are two ways companies get businesses. One is by lying and misrepresenting themselves and their competitors. The other way is through good honest work. Steve at ProEx falls in the latter category. I’ve had a total of 6 different companies give me estimates for termite tenting in a span of two years and they ranged from mediocre to really bad. One company that I will not name (contact if you want the name of the company) here on Unilocal has more reviews and higher rating than ProEx was caught lying about ProEx using inferior gas and that their contracted tenting work was shoddy. There’s lots to like about Steve. Things I learned from Steve:
1. Termite tenting is a maintenance item like painting your house. You need to save up and do it once every 10 – 15 years.
2. Don’t pay for the termite insurance. The EARLIEST you’d see a re-​infestation is about 7 years but in his experience, no customers had ever asked for a re-​tenting sooner than 12 years.
3. Don’t worry about subterranean termites as they occur less than 5% of the cases and if you had them, you’d see swarms in your house. And if you did have them, a $ 20 investment from Home Depot would do the trick.
I forget the company (National?) that Steve uses to subcontract the tenting service but apparently they are the largest tenting subcontractor in San Diego. All pest control company subcontract this work out. The benefit to you is that this will ensure that the company will do good work. Because ProEx will bring them additional work, it is in the best interest to do a good job if they want repeat business. You can’t but even if you could hire the tenting service directly, they really have no incentive to do good work for you because they will not see you again after the work is done.
In addition to providing quality work, Steve offered the lowest prices because he cuts out the middlemen. His wife works as both his receptionist and accountant. I got a chance to speak with her a few times on the phone and she was very sweet and accommodating. I had special request in regards to how I wanted them to return my house keys and she gladly fulfilled them.
The work the crew did was superb. All the plants surrounding the building were spared. They did a really good job cleaning up afterwards as well. I was very pleased with the result. Thank you Steve!
If you’ve made it this far, trust me and save yourself the trouble of looking for another contractor. If you’re in San Diego county, ProEx Termite is the company to go with. Feel free to contact me with any questions you may have. One additional note, Steve does not offer free termite inspection. He does it but for a fee. ProEx is the company to go with if you see new termite droppings in your home.

I couldn’t agree more with Jessica more. We bought our property in March and now have termites swarming. Steve was very helpful and honest. I can’t say enough good things about Steve and ProEx termites.

I haven’t had any work done by this company, but I wanted to rate them 5 stars because of the owner’s honesty and integrity in the business.
Recently purchase a house, and I’m getting conflicting reports on whether or not my property has termites. The company that did the work for escrow, and that I have a warranty with, says that I do not have termites, but another company that was doing a free inspection said that I did have termites. To break the tie, I called up a few termite companies who were all willing to local treat, fumigate etc. Of course they’re all willing to take my money but this doesn’t solve my problem with having a warranty with a company when they keep insisting I don’t have termites. Especially since the house is supposed to be Section 1 cleared after escrow.
Steve was the only person to tell me that I could file a complaint to the state at
and gave me really great advice. Hopefully I get this situation worked out, but for any termite activity in the future I will definitely call ProEx.

I just called Steve at ProEx to set up an appointment to inspect my house to see if it needed to be tented as inspector told me it did and another said they could spot treat it. He was very rude and curt and said he only tents and he didn’t even seem to want to come out and give me another bid. I had read all of these glowing reviews about him so I was surprised by his attitude.

Huge thumbs UP ! Steve saved me over $ 500 from the next lowest estimate. Everything Perfect. I’ve been back in the house for a month now, and haven’t found a problem. Everything Steve tells you is information from an experienced person that’s been in this industry for years. I have found NO PROBLEMS ! Nothing stolen ! Nothing Damaged ! Termites Gone ! When you talk to Steve, your talking to the person with all the answers and the lowest price out there. All these termite contractors use one of about three companies that actually do the work. ProEx uses Statewide. If you called Statewide direct, you’ll pay more than your price through Steve at ProEx. Big Thumbs UP. Thank You Steve.

In my line of business, I work with a lot of contractors. Rarely do they tell you what to expect, and then actually make it come true. So rare in fact that after Steve Rivette and Pro Ex Termite finished tenting my house, I felt compelled to compliment Steve and his crew. Steve is very professional, knows his business, offers a very competitive rate, gets the job done on time… all without any complaints or excuses. We were very pleased to see our termites go in short order at a great price without any damage or hassle. I sincerely hope I never see termites again, but when I do, I will call Steve.

Pro Ex termites was the third termite inspector I saw, and the best. Straight talk, no pressure, good information, professional, helpful and very decent prices. Highly recommended.

I recently noticed termite residue outside of my home, which I’ve owned since the 1980’s. Having had the house tented approximately 15 years ago, I recognized the signs (it was in my closet upstairs the last time). Unfortunately, the termite company I used previously was no longer in business.
I went to the Better Business Bureau listings to see which companies did not have complaints in the last few years, and then went to a few websites to read about them. After meeting with a few companies, I settled on ProEx. The owner came out to my home and confirmed my fears, indicating that houses in San Diego require tenting every dozen years or so (bugs like to live near the ocean just like people do). He was personable and explained the process in great detail, especially the safety precautions. He went through my pantry and said which items could be bagged, and which items should be boxed and moved to another place. I don’t remember the previous service being so thorough. He also told me that SDGE would be contacted to turn off the gas the day of tenting, but I would be responsible for contacting them to turn the gas on. Although SDGE says they only need 24 hours notice for this, Steve was right. I went away on vacation and forgot to do this last step, with the result being I didn’t get the gas turned on until I had been in the house for a day. Should have taken his advice.
The fee for the tenting was a couple hundred $$ cheaper than using a well known service such as Orkin or Terminex. It turns out that the owner worked for one of the larger companies as a manager for 10 years or so. His price point was more reasonable because I was not paying for infrastructure. Steve, the owner of the company, explained that 97% of the tenting in the city is performed by the same company (the tenting is subcontracted out by most firms).
The main reason for me to give this company 5 stars is not only due to Steve’s thoroughness, but he was very responsive when I found that one of my rain gutters had been dislodged and some front screen door hardware had been taken off and not replaced (the cylinder that keeps it from banging shut). Someone was out the very next day to correct the issue. This is the right way to run a service business!
