Progress

if it’s true the landlord jacked up the rent on them and that encouraged them to close, then the landlord is a fool. he should have done anything to keep them. stores like progress are part of what drew me to south park. if this place is becoming another bland generic overpriced place without the local things that made it special, what’s the point?

Progress closed two weeks ago as was reported in the South Park news and I live 1.5 from this place. Spoke to the owner who is really sweet, she told me that they are going on hiatus and that they are taking a break. Also, the landlord as with all things North Park and South Park, jacked up the lease in this building.
I loved this store, it’s where I would buy my quirky notebooks for work and also where I loved to by greeting cards. Before they closed, I bought a beautiful red wine decanter for 30 percent off. They had beautiful furnishings and great stuff for the kitchen, recipe books, I bought a great slow cooker book here.
I am going to miss having them in the neighborhood. They were a great business and I loved going in there on Sunday’s before having brunch at The Rose.
I wish them all the best.

I love this shop. I always stop in if I need a last minute gift or a card for a friend. They have a good array of home goods and accessories. It’s definitely a must visit in South Park.

I first heard about Progress because my old roommate bought a sectional from here and highly recommended this place. I happened to stumble here with my gf just to browse and was welcomed by Saphia. I believe she’s the owner and she gave us such a warm greeting. Progress is nestled in a hip business park next to other local businesses and I think it’s quite easy to miss if you’re walking or running around the neighborhood.
Originally, I wasn’t in the ballpark to purchase a couch but really liked the idea of being able to pick the fabric to go on your couch and that was a huge selling point for me. My GF and I made a sheet with our ideas and left it with her. A couple weeks later, I got a voicemail indicating they were having a 20% off sale on all their furniture and I was ecstatic! We went back on a different day and there was a gentleman who helped us. He was also really nice and sincere. He told us that he had to use the bathroom and we offered to wait outside but he insisted that he would hold it.
I have had my couch now for 2 months and I absolutely LOVE IT! I am happy that I purchased this sectional and am very happy to have purchased it from Progress. Thank you!

Super friendly. Fantastic selection of really cool, modern gifts. I spent thirty minutes just taking the awesome selection of goods in. Ended up buying several paper goods items for gifts.

Wonderful selection of unique gift and home décor items. I felt like this store was designed just for me, every nook I browsed in had an item I would love to own – great handbags, totebags, jewelry, funny coffee mugs, Pendleton goods (love the candles and the nostalgic scents reminding me of the Pacific Northwest), etc… I presume it was the owner who was there while we were shopping for a wedding gift, he was very personable without being overbearing, not dishing out the forced and fake sales talk that many salespeople play out. Overall, a great experience shopping here and will be back again soon.

Progress is one of my favorite stores and it just happens to be in one of my favorite San Diego neighborhoods: South Park. The reasons: cool furniture, household items, and great gifts as well as fantastic customer service.
During our first visit to Progress back in June, my husband and I were greeted by the friendly and personable Sophia. She directed our attention to the walnut V Lounge chair; a surprisingly comfortable modern wood chair. We fell head over heals for this unique chair and ordered one.
Unfortunately, the chair was back-​ordered for a little while due to circumstances out of Progress’ control. We were eager for the chair and a little frustrated by the wait, however, the owner Bruce impressed us by keeping in constant communication about the whereabouts of the chair. We were so happy with the customer service by both Sophia and Bruce that we went ahead and ordered the equally unique walnut fortune cookie chair to go in our home.
We received both items and couldn’t be happier with how they look in our new home. We will continue to shop at Progress when we frequent South Park and look forward to future purchases. If you are looking for some one-​of-​a-​kind items for your home, I would highly recommend you check out Progress.

Such a fun little store. I tend to stop by here during the South Park walk abouts. This is a great store to buy birthday gifts.

I love Progress! It is my favorite store. I try to stop by every chance I get even if I’m not looking for a specific gift or item. I can always find some cool/​hip/​unique birthday present idea here. They have the best greeting card selection, fun kitchen finds, interesting jewelry, scarves and purses, cute baby toys and apparel, and lots of cool home décor or nick-​nacks. Someday I will order myself one of their beautifully designed furniture pieces! I recommend stopping by just for the eye-​candy!

Can you say EYE CANDY?! So much to see and so little cash… sigh! Still the prices are very reasonable and they’ve got everything from cards to sofas. Anthropologie meets West Elm. The staff here are all super-​friendly hipsters who are committed to their products and their store.
I love their sofas, and their salesperson patiently explained every fabric option, construction options and the philosophy of the store owners and staff. She explained that many of them had worked and met at the Pacific Design Center in LA. She said that their furniture manufacturer in LA also produces for high-​end furniture companies. The sofas have clean lines and industrial looking fabrics that would look great in a studio or a modern home. They’re also very very comfortable… much more comfortable than any of the three hand-​me down sofas cluttering my place, lol! When I do scratch together enough jeffersons, I’ll be back!
The store is a little hard to find– tucked in the back of a building after turning a couple right angles down an open air corridor. Very South Park. Still the entrance to the main building is on 30^th, just keep your eyes open for the chalkboard signs.
Parking may be a little challenging on weekends.

They have a great selection of cards and home goods, a great things for South Park!
I was really turned off by the woman who was working…
I work in a small/​boutique store as well… so I know how «blah» it can be. As soon as we walked in she said «If you need help with anything let me know!» which I know pretty much means «Im kind of busy doing anything but helping you– but I’m going to say something so that I can at least say I offered»
No «hey how are you» or «can I help you find anything»… I don’t even think she looked up from her computer.
Disappointing from a local store to have so little interest in their customer.

It’s so nice to have a well-​curated store in the neighborhood that I can rely on consistently to find interesting and unique gifts. They have the most creative selection of cards that I’ve ever seen and I only purchase my cards from here. It seems that some, if not most of the cards are from local crafters as well. Furniture selection is small but that is a necessity due to space. What they do have on display is impressive, and like it’s name, it’s progressive and modern. I like how they’ve managed to fit such a wide variety of goods into such a small space. I only hope that their success grows so that they can take over a larger space like Pigment has and expand their inventory. I’d be excited to see what else they come up with.

Cute little shop in South Park to find home décor/​knick knacks for the home. This place is the antithesis of all those big box retailers with a million copies of the same thing. If you’re looking for stuff with a little more character, or something just a little different, look no further. Of course things are going to be be pricier for that though, but it’s really not that much. Fair warning. They had some really cool ornaments with entire feathers inside of the blown glass shapes. Beautiful and unique.

I think this gift shop is universally adored and all items there demand to be noticed! However is not in the spotlight of South Park, so not so right there in front of your eyes.
I am a very loyal follower as every time that I go I end up spending more that I should… in theory for friends, reality tells most of the gifts end up in my condo:).
I also confess that I buy gifts for others there, but I ‘soften’ them in my home environment for a while before giving them away. That nice the things you can get at Progress are! Even if to get one of those cute greeting cards, is worth a visit.

One of my favorite home and décor place in San Diego. They have great kitchen items and and unique furniture. Plus the owners are as sweet as can be!
I have bought things for myself and many gifts at this small but amazing shop. Def recommend it if you are in South Park

I’ve been to progress several times now and definitely am a fan. Here’s what I think:
Pros:
*LOVE their merchandise. Super cute and quirky home goods.
* Pleasant employees who are happy to help and also leave you alone to browse
*Their children’s section has a wonderful selection of toys and books
* I can find something to buy every time I stop in
Cons:
*The store is not cheap. I usually spend about $ 40 or more when I buy. However, I don’t feel quite as bad about my frivolous spending when I remind myself that it is a local business.
Progress is absolutely worth your time if you’re in South Park. I have also bought quite a few house warming/​wedding gifts here if you know you’re going to be shopping for those types of items.

As the sign reads, «something for everyone» and that holds true.
Cool housewares, a great and unique children’s section, clever greeting cards which will make you pledge your loyalty for any occasion, and more.
I love coming in here.

Hope all these 5 star reviews don’t go to their head, but this place is so deserving. super friendly, understanding, and helpful owners and staff. funky collection of merchandise — half of which you won’t find at other similar stores around town.
I hate buying gifts for people. this place is my go to to get something quirky, cool, and fun

I just bought a card from here that says «Fact* no. 86: Hipsters spend a total of 4 days per year choosing between Instagram filter effects.» YES. This card is exactly why I come to Progress: it’s quirky, fun, and you can always find something for someone (especially if they are even remotely hipster). Other items I was tempted by (and will probably go back and get): mustache luggage tag, morse code jewelry, and a onsie for my nephew.
