Ever watched a group of couples get together and dance synchronized at the same time, kind of like a choreography? Then all the sudden they all switch partners at the same time? Chances are you were watching the group dancing Cuban salsa in a Rueda (wheel). If you’re curious as to how this fun dance is done and want to learn in a very easy format and look good doing it, then join us every Saturday for Cuban Salsa & Rueda class at Mind Body & Soul Studio at 11:30am. Our class is extremely first-timer-friendly, and we cover everything from how to step right and on time, how to lead and follow properly so that you can really enjoy the dance, and how to listen to breaks and changes in the music so you look like an experienced dancer right away!
$ 10/hr, $ 15 for both hours; and students only $ 5!
History
Established in 2008.
Vidal Cordova has been dancing and performing Casino & Rueda de Casino exclusively for the past seven years, and he is the director of Salsa Casino & Rueda San Diego, San Diego’s top spot for Cuban salsa & Rueda de Casino. Born in and originally from Puerto Rico, Vidal grew up surrounded by Afro-Caribbean music, salsa and Puertorrican bomba & plena. After spending seven years living in music-rich Panama, he returned to the U.S. with a rich and diverse upbringing in various Latin American folkloric and popular musical styles. Before embarking into dance, Vidal studied music theory and practice as a musician, becoming first a guitarist and later on a drummer both at the age of 12. Vidal brings this unique musical understanding of salsa & timba to his classes and students.
Meet the Manager
Vidal C.
Manager
Vidal fell in love with Cuban salsa after watching Cuban dancers lighting up the dance floors in Florida with passion and energy. He then trained under and received his instruction in authentic Cuban salsa from some of Cuba and the U.S.‘s best Casino master instructors in Atlanta and San Francisco. Drawing from both a Miami and Cuban-style Casino knowledge-base, Vidal holds a passion for passing on authentic Cuban salsa dancing to his students. His teaching approach embraces teaching intricate Cuban patterns, footwork, proper leading & following techniques and dance etiquette, and he gets students moving and working out within minutes. His passion for salsa comes from a love for the music that shaped his family’s earlier generations in New York City, to exploring the deep Cuban-based foundation of Son throughout salsa in the 60s and 70s, to today’s powerful and moving Cuban Timba.
