I had by far the worst experience picking up my dog’s birthday cake. To just note, I have ordered here before with great experience and help from the staff, even buying way too expensive dogs toys.
I ordered my cake two days ago with I believe the owner who was so nice and helpful, there must have been some miscommunication over the phone bc the cake I went to pick up was very small and I was expecting a larger one bc there’s another dog this year. I was upset the order was wrong to my understanding, and knew it was too late to get another. And then things just went downhill fast.
The middle aged lady working, didn’t catch her name, said there was nothing she could do then offered me another small cake. I was still upset but said the other cake would do. At this point a couple people entered the store and that’s when she went from kinda nice to mad. She literally started yelling at me and saying that’s what she was going to offer or something along those lines. I told her I didn’t appreciate her yelling at me, it was very uncomfortable. The other people quickly exited. That’s when she told me to get out of the store. I was shocked. She just walked away to the back room and again yelled for me to leave.
So I left, I didn’t have a chance to buy extra party hats or toys like I was planning to. I was shocked that’s how a returning customer was treated. I’m still not sure if she was having a bad day or is off her meds but I won’t be returning here in the future. I’m leaving this review bc this was my awful experience, I hope no one else gets treated like I did.

Love this place! For the past 3 years I have been getting my pit and husky their birthday cakes from paw pleasers! My pit has really bad food allergies so I was excited to learn their cakes were grain free which is what originally attracted me to them. Their customer service is excellence and the quality and size of their cakes are definitely worth it! They even give you a 15% off toy coupon or 20% off bed coupon for your pet’s birthday! I love that I can order over the phone for pick up which is extremely hassle free! I would definitely recommend paw pleasers as the #1 dog bakery in San Diego!!!

I first stumbled across The Original Paw Pleasers upon my search of a birthday cake for my dog’s 1^st birthday. My goodness, that was 8 years ago, but they are still around! They’ve remained pretty low-​key which definitely isn’t a bad thing. I had ordered the 6″ cake the price of which has remained pretty steady throughout the years. They have a website where you can view their selections, but no online orders are accepted. I remember ordering it directly at the store, but you’re also able to call them with ordering instructions. I personalized mine with pink and blue lettering with my dog and her brother’s name on it. I have a video somewhere, but the two big dogs CRUSHED that cake within a matter of minutes! It was a licking fest initially, but they were able to figure it all out. Of course, while making a mess out of it!
I also pop in here for their specialty ice cream every now and then. It’s 2 for $ 5 — one for your kid and yourself! They make it human-​grade, but also with doggie-​safe ingredients. My girl LOVED her peanut butter ice cream and it was a great way to cool down after walking around on a hot day.

Great staff, got my baby Boston a GORGEOUS tag here. More expensive than say petco but it’s a great part of the ‘hood so support these great small businesses! They also have great doggy birthday treats!

The owner was super nice & helpful when I called to order grain-​free cake & ice cream for my dog’s birthday. The cashier was very helpful when we picked the order up, and all seven (yes…7) of our dogs LOVED the cake and bacon ice cream! The bowls were clean!

Ok… So. My puppy turned 1 and we got him a dog cake for his dog party. I am so happy. Just see the pic of the cake! It’s amazing!!!

My dogs loved their grain free birthday cake! I got these cute birthday hats there too! Inside the store they also have all kinds of cool toys and treats. Staff was super nice. I didn’t have to order the cake ahead of time or anything.

While they didn’t have the selection I was expecting there is variety with kibble and toys but this is a small shop that has been around for quite some time and will be gong back when celebrating another puppy birthday. I bought the 6″ Bone Cake grain-​free for about $ 25 and my GSD loved it. Not sure if she was the owner but seemed like it and was very friendly.

I was so pleased to find this lovely shop so close to my home! They were friendly, helpful and the store had a nice selection of pet treats!
I bought my «baby» a cake for her first birthday, along with a new toy. I had signed up for the birthday club and saved 15%!

I like to shop small and support my neighborhood businesses. Finding life’s necessities steps from your door is rare, finding quality goods and services that make you feel welcome, even more so… Original Paw Pleasers is one of those rare businesses that really deliver a great experience.
I visit this store a couple times a month and I enjoy how knowledgable Lori and her team are on their products and how they remember what I like. Within 5 minutes we’ve caught up on what’s going on for me at work, what I’m doing that day, week, month and funny stories about are pets are equally traded. The way this team balances multiple customers, grooming appointments and pets running around with such ease, is an amazing sight each time.
My puppy gets so much love every time we visit. I’m glad this place is a block from my house but I would happily travel for this kind of experience.

I think this is a great place for pet treats. I love the variety of the treats and my dog and his canine friends like them too.

Only place to get dog birthday cake in central San Diego. Most other places I found on Unilocal were in del mar or further. The cake was 21 bucks for a tiny cake. It was cute but the writing was bleeding and they forgot to write happy birthday. They had a lot of other treats and toys in the store also.

Ordered their dog cake and was very happy with how it turned out! It looked great and my dog loved it. The cakes are all the same ingredients (gingerbread with lactose free icing) with the option of grain free. Their store has lots of homemade treats, toys and they do peticures. Not a place for everyday pet needs, but good for specialty items.

Pretty pricey. Overall great friendly staff! Limited choices on dog treats and kind of pushy to buy when inquired about cat treats. Our one dog was hesitant but ate his treat but the other wouldnt touch it.

Always come here to get the best doggy cake in town. Bought the big one since I had 4 tiny dogs. Each gave them a slice and saved the leftovers. Went back in the freezer to find it, it was gone! My bro threw it away because he said it smelled funny. I was so mad at him!!! Anyways awesome place to get your dog’s birthday cake, as long as you don’t have an idiot brother that just toss things away without asking, you should be good.

I went here a few weeks ago because I had been searching for a new harness for my french bulldog puppy. The lady who helped me was SO sweet and helpful, she recommended this harness with one strap across the front and my pup is walking so much better now. I even got a pumpkin dog treat to bring home for her which she LOVED. The best part is that they are only 6 blocks from my house!

Amazing !! Couldn’t be happier with my sons cake and he also got a couple of treats that where not at all expensive ! Great customer service and very friendly. Will shop again very soon next time with the little boy

I always come here for my dog’a bday! I always buy him the a puppy bone cake for his day ! The cake has no sugar and you can always come here for different essentials when it comes to doggys best and healthy foods. Highly recommend and the staff is extremely nice! And very helpful.

I had a good experience at Paw Pleasers — it was my dog’s birthday and I called to order a cake for her on very short notice. The cake I ended up getting was a 6 inch bone, which looked very cute.
When you get to the store, there is a nice bakery counter type scenario going on, with a lot of individual cookies and treats for your pupper. Each of these are in the 3.99 range, which seems to be a little high for this category, but probably not when you take into account that they are freshly baked.
The cake was in the $ 22 neighborhood, which seems really expensive for a dog cake that should probably be in the $ 10 range. I get that these are special ingredients and freshly baked and all that, but it’s a sock in the gut because what are you going to say when you haven’t pre-​planned as well as you would have liked to and basically this is your option? Next year, I will plan further in advance and try to find one that is more economical. My dog does not have a strict diet, and will eat just about anything so I’m not worried about her needing special ingredients.
Having said all that, the store could use a wider assortment of birthday related items. There are party hats in the front of the store by the counter, but other than that not too much. I was pretty disappointed and ending up purchasing random winter cookies as birthday treats.
At the end of the day, my dog tore up the cake, and literally that’s all that matters.

Great place! We showed up last minute to get a cake and everyone was so helpful! They helped us pick out the perfect cake and even wrote Cora’s (our pup) name on it! We signed up for the birthday promotion they have and received a free birthday cookie and 15% off a toy! We will definitely return and happy to recommend The Original Paw Pleasers!
