Peticures By Tess

Tess and Monique are the dynamic duo of nail trims! So grateful I looked across the street from The Mission restaurant and saw Peticures by Tess. My bassets love her and my goofy neurotic PBGV trusts Tess like no one else. These ladies work their butts off to help their clients. The 5 stars are well-​deserved.

Tess is definitely magically gifted as all the reviews say. I was told by my vet that one of my rescues would need to be put under anytime she needed a nail clipping because she made herself so anxious and crazy when her nails were touched. Tess of course sprinkled her fairy dust, and all is solved! I am beyond grateful for Tess and her role in my dogs life!!!

Tess does an incredible job! She hand dremels and hand files my dogs nails. And she does it quickly. Charlie loves to go see her. It use to take my boyfriend and I to dremel her nails, but it was such a stressful experience for all 3 of us. I’m so glad we found Tess.

My dog came to me at 8 months old with a history of scary nail experiences — he’d been held down every week to have his nails done with a grinder. He didn’t like having his paws touched, he didn’t like being restrained, and he wouldn’t come when called if I was sitting on the ground. I took him to Tess, and on his very first visit he fell asleep in her arms. After one appointment, he was much less sensitive about his paws, and now I can pet them like any other part of his body. Tess is magic!

Tess has been taking care of my «girls» for the past several years. I have an English bulldog and a little furry girl, who has been groomed by Tess and company for all that time. What I LOVE the most about Tess is that she an honest deep affection for my girls and they love her so much. She ONLY has staff who share her love of our four-​legged families and who are extremely competent. This is an unbeatable combination. She has knowledge and experience and incredible patience with skittish critters. I highly recommend her and her staff.

I cant say enough good things about Tess… we love her but more importantly our doggie Lou LOVES her! She has a huge heart & talent! She is the hot pink haired doggie loving angle. Louie our pug has been a regular client of Tess for 3 years now… she never cages him (he is a rescue and cages scare him so much) and lays on the floor with our doggie in this little baby papoose thing comforting him while he gets his nails trimmed… and painted… yes painted hehehe :) Louis looks smashing in the blues, greens, and I even had her do bubble gum pink with white polka dots for Valentines Day (so cute).
We also have to get his little bottom done and he is in and out in seconds and she always freshens up his fur with soothing lavender oil. She truly from the bottom of her hear loves doggies so so so much. We are forever clients of Peticures By Tess! Amazing Amazing, Amazing… Sweet…Talented…We heart her so much!!!

Where can we start? We have been going regularly to Tess for years! We have an elderly dog and two dogs from the pound and a Chihuahua! They are all sensitive to strangers and Tess has been the only person that two of our dogs would even let near them for treatment! She has an amazing connection with animals and we won’t stop taking our dogs to her.
When she was recommended to us, we were incredibly relived that someone could take care of all four of our dogs (three being particularly nervous patients). Between the lavender oil, blankets and hugs — our dogs are so comfortable about it, they actually enjoy the visit with Tess! Thanks!

Tess has a gift when it comes to handling pets. I could tell you some stories, but instead I will just HIGHLY endorse her work. After relocating out of the area, I can not find people to dremel my dogs nails, and definitely not with as much loving concern for your pet as Tess.
Re: other reviews as the shop being cliquey. When I first started going to Tess in 2008 I felt that vibe. But, if I’m honestly reflecting on what took place, I thought I could just show up and get my dogs nails trimmed immediately; little did I know when I walked in that the store is harem of hard working women who do require notice to give your pup a standard of care that is unparalleled in the state of CA.
Needless to say my good behavior got me «initiated» into what appears as «the clique». But, really it is a genuine support system. Tess is a reliable guide for you in your journey of a pet ownership from birth to death. That standard of quality is available to anyone who gets what their doing and plays by their rules. I have personally known Tess to go to great lengths for her customers, in return she would like advance appointments, notification if you’ll be late, etc. common courtesy stuff.

Tess is AMAZING! My pup, Roxy, absolutely adores Tess (probably because of all the bacon, cream cheese, and belly rubs Tess gives her). Tess starts out with a little lavender aromatherapy, then wraps a fuzzy blanket around Roxy to comfort her and block out some of the noise from the Dremel. Tess is extremely careful about not hitting the quick. Roxy is not fond of loud, scary noises, so I am always amazed at how she let’s Tess do her nails… and Tess does NOT force her; Tess is always gentle and caring. I don’t know what we’d do without Peticures by Tess!

Tess is amazing! Our Chihuahua/​Pug Nero, who tried to bite the last groomer cutting his nails, came out like he just woke up refreshed from a nap. Our Chihuahua/​Italian Greyhound Lizzie’s «peticure» is astounding — we never thought her nails could SAFELY be cut that short. Not even the vet could get them right without cutting the quick! Lizzie’s pink polish is a HUGE hit here at home and with the neighbors. I took Nero for a walk when he was done, and then we went back in for Lizzie. He led the way into the shop! At the vet or any other salon we’ve been to I would have to drag or carry him back in. I cannot give a higher recommendation.

A visit to Tess was easily one of the best times our dogs have ever had. Aromatherapy massage, nail trimming, polish (animal safe by the way) and then hand made doggie ice cream. They were grinning ear to ear and dancing around like new puppies. No clippers! No bleeding! No trauma!
There is even a little welcome sign down on the floor with your dog’s name on it for them to see. She really goes the extra mile to make this a top notch experience for both for you and your pet. All the while, it seems like Tess is the one getting the most joy from it all.
She has a gift and huge heart to care for these animals. She is worth her weight in gold! We are lucky to have her.

Last year, Tess helped our senior German Shepherd with his nails, and I was incredibly impressed with her skill and kindness (and I’ll never forget how adorable our big, scary-​to-​strangers boy looked wearing a lavender-​misted fleece scarf around his head). He normally didn’t like having his front feet touched, but he allowed her to hold them with no complaint.
Eventually, we rescued another GS, this time a female who’d had a pretty rough time of it and as a result is nervous about strangers, noises, birds… well, a lot of things (she’s under my desk right now). When it was time to get her nails trimmed, I knew Peticures by Tess was the place to go. Tess was very gentle with our sweet girl and kept her calm throughout the trimming. I highly recommend Tess for anyone seeking help with their dog’s nails.

What do you do with a sweet little MinPin that turns into a ball of teeth baring fury when her feet are touched? You take her to Tess! Duh.
Tess made me a believer in reincarnation. How can a human be so in touch with animals unless she was once an animal? Believe it people, I’ve never seen anything like it. During our first appointment I couldn’t do anything but watch the magic happening between my dog and the stranger that flipped her over on her back. THAT was a first. Tess is the messiah of dogs.
I used to take my sassy girl to Petsmart where 2 girls would have to clip her nails; one to hold her and one to clip them. When I walked in the door, they’d say «Here comes 5lbs of fury!». It was a mess. Eventually she got better and stopped attacking the clippers but it still was an ordeal for her. Now she gets so excited when I pull up in front of Tess’s that she cries and strains to get inside. Once inside she willingly jumps in Tess’s lap and licks her face.
It’s so nice to go home and not have to file the rough edges from her nails. Tess Dremel’s them, files them and then buffs them. My dog’s nails look nicer than mine!

Tess is one of the most beautiful spirits you will ever get to meet. Her love of animals in unrivaled, she even trumps me (difficult to do). She has a calming effect on dogs and they will sit with her when they will not do it for anyone else. I had a Dane that was neurotic and yet Tess was able to calm her down and get her nails done. She has since passed, but I still go to her even though I have dogs that love getting pampered. She is one of those people that once she is a part of your life you will always want her there.
I strongly recommend making an appointment, she books up quickly, but if you’re in the neighborhood stop in, if she has time she will take a walk-​in. As a bonus you can shop in the boutique she is located in and get something special for your dog.

Really folks– she’s the best. My dog is a freak when it comes to her feet and Tess knows her stuff. I wouldn’t go anywhere else.
For Easter she painted her nails a cute purple. I love Tess and I promise you’ll love her too. We have taken all of our dogs there for well over a year. She’s the sweetest gal too. You won’t be disappointed.

Took my pup to get her first peticure with Tess today and her toes are so cute with «pawlish» now :)
She had gotten her nails cut before at Petsmart and they were all sharp and uneven, so I was excited when I found out about Tess.
My dog was being kinda loud and yappy while she was getting her nails done, and I was worried my dog would be the first one to get banned from Tess’! However Tess assured us this is normal and some dogs just vocalize a lot. Soon enough she was quiet and we had a wonderful finished product of short nails! Yay no more scratches and clicks during walks: D

I agree with everyone else. Tess is the best. She’s very easy-​going and warm and loving to my dog, Maggie, and Maggie, in turn, loves it. I think she gets a little nervous in the shop while we’re waiting — all the smells, the other animals, anticipation? — but once she’s wrapped in those blankets, smelling like lavender, and being handled by Tess, she’s all butter. And the painted nails tickle me like nothing else. Maggie somehow seems to feel so girly when her nails are pink or orange or even blue — her step becomes a prance.

What can I say that hasn’t already been said — she is the nail whisperer when it comes to skittish dogs who can’t stand having their feet touched. She worked her magic with my English Mastiff who at 150 lbs could easily have out muscled her, but she was a baby in Tess’ very capable hands and it took only a few minutes to trim down her super thick, black nails with no pain involved. Our other dog is equally as skittish about anyone touching her nails, but is delighted to see Tess at her appointments.
I can’t thank her enough for making this such an easy (and affordable) chore!
