History

Established in 2014.

Dr. Brian Baliwas is a Bay Area native and received his Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from UC Davis. He completed post-​baccalaureate studies in Human Anatomy and Physiology at the University of Oregon, and went on to obtain his D.D.S. degree from the University of the Pacific (UOP) School of Dentistry in San Francisco, Ca. As a student, he was elected to both Omicron Kappa Upsilon and Tau Kappa Omega dental honor societies, and received several awards for his outstanding clinical work. He is an active member of the American Dental Association, the California Dental Association, the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, the Academy of General Dentistry, and several study clubs throughout the Bay Area. Dr. Baliwas also teaches part-​time at the UOP Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry.

Aside from providing his patients with high-​quality dental treatment and education, Dr. Baliwas’ interests include golf, skiing, health, fitness, and watching sports.

If you can picture a dentist, you might envision an older gentleman or seasoned woman under the lab coat and mask. Upon meeting Dr. Baliwas, his youthful appearance and flair for fashionable style unsettled me. However, upon shaking his hand and taking my seat in the chair, all became clear. He was friendly, funny, and earnest in a manner that put my reservations at ease. He knew what he was doing and created a dialogue that made me relax by juxtaposing his humor with his technical knowledge. Furthermore, he was gentle. Where most dentists breeze through routine cleanings with a fast past to expedite the process, Dr. Baliwas took his time and used a steady gentle hand. If a hand could somehow be made of lotions and pillow feathers, and if by chance that hand could somehow mend your hygiene, then that hand would belong to Dr. Baliwas. The only thing I don’t like about him is that he’s better looking than me. Such is life. Some things can’t be helped.

I was referred to Dr. Baliwas by a friend, let’s just say he lived up to hype and totally worth the drive from San Jose! I had been avoiding the dentist for a few years because of terrible bedside manner from a family dentist in the past, so i was definitely apprehensive going into the appointment. Brian was very understanding of this and made my experience great. He started the appointment by taking me on a tour of the office, which may i add is state of the art. During the entire appointment I felt comfortable and at ease. I really appreciated how communicative Brian is, he explains what he’s doing and why. I’d say the two things I was dreading the most about seeing a dentist was the pain and judgment, as i was long overdue, but i left with no pain and my ego in tact. But seriously, it was so nice to have someone constantly check in during the entire procedure to make sure you weren’t feeling any discomfort, it shows how much he cares. Definitely seeing Dr. Baliwas for future care, even if i have to make the commute :)

My recent visit to Dr. Baliwas’ office inspired me to write my 1st Unilocal review! I’ve been to more dentists than I can remember, and Dr. Baliwas was hands down the best.
A week before my cousin’s wedding, I had an accident which, on top of numerous facial wounds, caused my front tooth to chip as well. Dr. Baliwas came in on his day off, and had me in and out in 45 minutes with a treatment that looks and feels amazing. Throughout the entire procedure, he made sure I was comfortable, had a clear understanding of what he was doing, and in virtually no pain (which given my state that day, takes some serious talent).
It’s clear that this is his passion, with his attention to detail and incredible patient care and follow up. Truly inspiring to see someone doing something that they love so much. I have nothing but great things to say about Brian!

Dr. Baliwas is a fantastic dentist who really went above and beyond to make my procedure as stress-​free and pain-​free as possible.
His office gave me a last minute appointment to address some minor pain, right before I had to go out of town, and Dr. Baliwas solved the issue right away. He talked me through everything he did, step by step, which is a nice change from many dentists. Other reviewers have already covered the high points thoroughly, but I just wanted to emphasize that you can’t go wrong if you’re looking for a pleasant, informative, communicative, and incredible knowledgeable dentist.

I am not one to write Unilocal reviews… BUT I just had to after going to see Dr. Baliwas for a second time. Both times they managed to squeeze me in quickly relatively last min. Brian made sure to explain what was to be done before he did it; verified if I actually needed procedures or they could be put off for a later date; did the cleaning and the exam himself; gave me tips to find better floss (i hate flossing because my teeth are soo tight together). Most people hate the dentist for good reason, but these experiences were great! No stress, makes you feel comfortable and at ease. Besides the basics awesome the office is new and shiny, the front desk staff is very nice AND you can watch TV while getting poked and prodded in the mouth… great thing to take your mind off what is really going on. LOL

If I could rate him any higher, I would!
Dr. Baliwas has been, hands down, the best dentist I’ve had. Every time I visit, he educates me as he works and lets me know what it is that he is doing and why. Throughout all procedures, he has asked if I am feeling any pain or discomfort, and adjusts if so.
He always follows up with a call or an email and makes himself available for any questions/​concerns!

Dr. Baliwas is one in a million. He actually takes the time to explain what he is doing. His intraoral camera is dope! He shows you what he sees which is great because it includes the patient in their own oral health. He is a great doctor with an eye for perfection. Being a dentist myself, I know the difference that makes in the quality of the work. He took the time to sculpt perfect anatomy on the filling in my molar, something most dentists would say, «meh nobody will see that». If you want perfection, go to Dr. Baliwas.

Not big on Unilocaling. First time.
But I gotta say… Dr. Baliwas is great. Hadn’t been to a dentist in quite some time and he made the process fun. Explained to me everything that was happening as it was happening so I didn’t feel like he was just «working» on me and talked everything through.
If you’re looking for a dentist — you should try (if he’s accepting new patients as I imagine it will quickly come to a point where he can’t anymore) and get on his books. A+. Couldn’t be happier
Also their office building is beautiful and the staff was friendly.
P.s he called me in the evening after the appintment to check in. What a guy.

Brian Baliwas deserves more than 5 stars. He isn’t your usual dentist. His approach and philosophy about dental work is educational and effective. He explains each and every part of the «routine» check up and is very professional about his work.
He was gentle throughout the exam and cleaning process and explained where I needed to put more effort when flossing or brushing.
The office is state of the art with relaxing music and professional staff from the time you enter.
If you are in the city or even close by — stop in and see Brian in action. You won’t be disappointed.
I will be going back in 4 – 6 months, and this time I actually look forward to the visit!

Best dentist in the city! I’ve had my fair share of dental work done in my life and this was by far the best experience. He took the time to explain what was going on with my teeth and gums and how I can work to better prevent further dental work. He also didn’t push treatments, but explained how with proper care and a vigilance could save me time, money and possibly unnecessary treatments.
I mean, the guy took pictures and x-​rays of all my teeth (which was done way quicker than even just x-​rays in another dentist’s office) to show me exactly what he was seeing. The experience was so transparent and pleasant that I wish I could give him 10 stars!

I have been fortunate enough to know Dr. Baliwas since he was a student over at UoP. In school, he was always one of the top students, dedicated to helping others and always striving for the best.
Recently, I had the great pleasure of seeing him in private practice for much needed nightguard and cleaning. Having a very unforgiving schedule, I was thrilled to get an appointment in a timely manner, and have my exam, cleaning, and impressions completed in one fluid appointment. Dr. Baliwas was thorough and explained all of his findings. At one point, he even answered all of my questions by showing me my teeth with an intraoral camera. This extra effort was much appreciated.
I also just received my nightguard this past week and cannot believe how comfortable it is! I told Dr. Baliwas that I was having some joint pain, and he was able to sit down with me and modify the design so that it would fit my teeth better than my previous nightguard. The fact that I was able to customize the color was an great bonus– blue with sparkles!
I am extremely happy with the dental care I have received with Dr. Baliwas, and would highly recommend him as a dentist– he is kind, patient, and very knowledgeable

My experience with Dr. Baliwas was nothing short of exceptional. His office is very easy to find, and all of the receptionists warmly welcomed me as this was my first visit. I very soon thereafter met Dr. Baliwas, who introduced himself, shook my hand, and thanked me for coming in today, Throughout my appointment. Dr. Baliwas had an amazing bedside manner, carefully explaining to me an action plan for today, what he was going to do next, and his plan for my dental health.
Dr. Baliwas personally oversaw my cleaning, and took the time to show me specifically where I should focus on flossing and brushing moving forward. He constantly asked if I was experiencing any pain, and was especially sensitive throughout my cleaning.
At the end of my appointment, he also wrote me an entire email, explaining his diagnosis, so that I could have an exportable record of my dental health.
I would highly recommend Dr. Baliwas to anyone looking for a dentist in San Francisco. I think the fact that I’m looking forward to my next appointment speaks volumes about him!

Let me start this review by explaining how afraid I am and always have been of going to the dentist. It’s not that I’ve had terrible experiences (well maybe one) but my pain tolerance isn’t anything to brag about and I find most dentists to be stuffy and not understanding of my apprehension. Dr. Baliwas was my idea of a teeth cleaning dream! He made me feel so comfortable and actually explained everything that was going on with my teeth. Instead of being trigger happy with potential cavity fillings he showed me preventative ways to keep my teeth healthy and even reverse some damage! The dental swag that came in my goodie bag was pretty exciting as far as visits to the dentists go and i even prebooked my next appt! If that isn’t progress I don’t know what is!

My teeth are clean.
Not just clean, but cleaner than they’ve been since I came kicking and screaming into this world 30 short years ago. I heard about Dr Baliwas from a friend, and I’m glad that I followed up and went in.
Now, I tend to be fairly picky when it comes to the people I let in my mouth, but Dr Baliwas (‘please call me Brian’) did an amazing job with my cleaning, so he’s definitely on the short list now!
