History
Established in 1986.
In1986 the 2 founders of Cha Cha Cha came together to form a partnership with the idea of bringing the food from their perspective homelands to the San Franciscan public. One half of the partnership having lived in Cuba from the age of 8 until the age of 28. The other half of the partnership having been born in Puerto Rico and raised in NYC. They began serving there unique blend of Puerto Rican and Cuban quinine in the Upper Haight neighborhood of San Francisco in 1986. They had enjoyed 13 years of good food and good fun on Haight St. when the opportunity arose to start a second location serving the Mission District. This is how Cha Cha Cha at Original McCarthy’s was born. They purchased an Irish dive bar from the 72 year old grandson of the Original McCarthy who had built and opened the bar before the start of Prohibition. Wanting to respect the previous owners, as well as the neighborhoods, Irish roots they kept the name with a little of the old Irish feel.
