Tailors’ Keep

Ryan is the consummate professional who is extremely knowledgeable of his craft and at the same time passionate about creating clothes that look great on everyone. I have had several custom shirts made and the issues that I pointed out to him that I could never quite get right were quickly identified and adjusted.
There were several other details that I had never considered, nor had offered as an option to me with other tailors, that Ryan educated me on to make sure that I was getting the most out of the shirt. I was very pleased with the final result, will be my main guy going forward.

San Francisco is full of entrepreneurs, but few are cut from the same cloth as Ryan and Erik. In a town of hoodies, tech swag and sneakers, they have built something special at 1 Columbus, one precise pant rise and terrific trouser break at a time.
I knew Ryan’s work before I knew his name; I had seen customers being fitted in his tailored suits at Taylor Stitch, but he had since left. After a few phone calls, I found him — and his new outfit, Tailors’ Keep.
What followed was a six-​month courtship of the perfect three-​piece suit for my wedding. It had its ups (e.g. masterful lining work with a difficult fabric; a magician’s adjustments to pre-​wedding weight fluctuations, Ryan’s beautiful work on pocket squares) and downs (e.g. my selected fabric going out of stock as seasons changed). Throughout, Ryan was thoughtful, supportive and steadfast.
There are many positive experiences that I could call up, but here are three to mention about working with Ryan:
1) seeing him as stoked by a bolt of pinstripe fabric that he secured on a factory visit as when he cracked the code on how to get my vest to lay perfectly under my suit jacket. In other words, his joy for his trade is evident in each moment.
2) his integrity is omnipresent, whether it’s making sure that the collar shows just-​so above your suit jacket or that your fiancé/​family feels acknowledged during the process. As I tried on the suit, he once brought my fiancé over to show her exactly where, how and why the seat of my suit pants needed to be altered. It was his job, he said, to not only reveal the nuances of what I could see, but also what I couldn’t.
3) his word. I was lucky to find Tailors’ Keep early, when it was at its other location and just getting going. At the time, I was in between jobs and trying to find a way to still swing the bespoke suit I had imagined on my wedding day. Ryan kept to the price range we agreed upon, guiding me even as we made changes along the way. This meant so much, especially as Tailors’ Keep has become more known and outfits some famous customers. Regardless, Ryan shows a lot of honor in his work, right down to the stamp of my name/​the date on the inside of my suit jacket.
Believe it or not, this essay could be longer. So just visit Ryan and Erik. They do exquisite work and you walk away standing a bit taller and prouder in their creations. They’ll keep your measurements on file and current so you can continue to grow with and go to them. That’s my plan.

This is a review for a call I had with Erik. I was considering buying a custom tux for an event coming up in early February. He’s super friendly, very knowledgeable and answered all my questions patiently. I didn’t feel any pressure at all to purchase something.
Unfortunately, budget and also timing of my event doesn’t allow me to purchase a custom tux at this point. However, if I ever need a suit or tux, I’ll definitely come to Tailors’ Keep.

I have never met two people more passionate about making you look (and feel) your best than Erik and Ryan. The excellence that they reach for in each cut of cloth, the North Beach environment they have curated and the partners that they have carefully selected creates an intoxicating experience. I was one of their first customers and have thoroughly enjoyed working with them on breathing new life into older pieces and exploring de novo suits that reflect more personal expression.

Erik and Ryan make clothing fun again; they both have a fresh approach and a keen eye for detail — passionate, friendly, knowledge and caring are some of the words that come to mind when I think of them collective. Whether you’re looking for a custom shirt or a custom suit, I am certain that you will not find a better value or experience.

I started the conversation about getting fitted for a custom suit a few years back when I first met Ryan — In normal fashion I procrastinated those few years until I randomly stopped into the new clothing shop I had seen while walking home. As I blindly walked into Tailors’ Keep, Ryan call out my name with a smile. I said then, «It’s time to stop procrastinating — the time has arrived.»
The entire process working with Ryan and Erik went smoothly — patient, inspiring, top notch quality, with a kicked back touch and a friendliness that forms relationships — builds community.
Of all the custom garments I have tried, never have three pieces of clothing fit the first time. My jacket, pants and shirt are finely shaped and fit perfectly.
I would say Tailor’s Keep is a new breed of shop; alas it is an old breed brought to life by two talented and inspiring individuals — Well played gentlemen.

Erik worked a miracle with a blazer sleeve that was too tight with very little excess fabric left to work with. Saved my $ 800 suit from ebay he did!

Hands down the most unique and skilled tailors in SF. Nothing compares to the service, selection and attention to detail you will find here in the hands of Ryan and Erik. The quality and fit of my two custom suits has made it impossible to wear anything else in my wardrobe. Words really fail to describe just how special Tailors Keep is, so you’ll just have to step inside, fix yourself a drink and experience it for yourself.

I’ve had a really great experience with Tailors Keep. Erik has been really friendly and attentive, and was really patient as he guided me through the process of getting a new 3-​piece suit with them despite my pickiness and general ignorance of the process.
I never felt rushed or talked down to, and he was willing to work with my needs and any concerns.
Most importantly, I tried on the suit for final alterations last week and it already looks and feels fantastic — great fit and looking just the way I wanted it. I was a little nervous, having never ordered any custom clothing before, but Tailors’ Keep has really proved itself to me and I hope I have another opportunity to order from them again.

An unparalleled suiting and alteration experience run by masters of the craft. Created by two of the sharpest, most genuine dudes in the business, Tailors’ Keep is a gem that I imagine will be around for a long time.
Step into their beautiful shop and get lost talking about suits and fashion. They’ll probably offer you a cocktail as you converse, figuring out exactly what you’re looking for, and how to create it without compromise. I stopped by for an excellent tailor job on a vintage suit that they quickly turned around, and I’ll be heading back soon to get a custom shirt made by Ryan.

For starters, Erik and Ryan are two of the best guys I know. I met the two of them through a mutual friend as they embarked on Tailors’ Keep and couldn’t be more thrilled with my suit and the friendship that came out of it. Both were incredibly knowledgeable on fabrics, cuts, stitching and the overall fit and feel of my wedding suit, a true testament not only to their skill, but also in their demeanor and ability to customize attire back to the customer.
I wear suits and business attire five days a week and have never put a piece of attire on my body that was better-​fitted or made me look sharper than my Tailors’ Keep suit. While my bride certainly upstaged me at our wedding, I came out looking extra slickand feeling even better. I’ve recommended Erik and Ryan to friends who’ve also now purchased custom suits from them and will be going back to have them fine tune my business wardrobe so I continue to look fresh for every occasion.
Throw in the bonus of these guys having big enough balls to go out on their own and the talent, drive and price point to please just about anyone, I’d highly recommend getting your next suit-​man or woman-​made by Tailors’ Keep. Big ups guys, keep up the outstanding work.

In many ways I’ve been hesitant to write this review. An old adage reads «Once you find a good tailor, you must never give his name away — not even under bodily harm.»
A bit dramatic? Sure. Good advice? Definitely. Until now.
3 years and 4 suits later, consider this rule broken. Ryan Devens and company know their shit, and know how to make you look GQ good.

Ryan and Tailors’ Keep take care of me better than I expect every time.
While they can help with both custom suiting/​shirting and alterations I’ve primarily gone to them with my alterations needs. I had Ryan help redesign an old suit that fit so poorly I cannot adequately describe. I now get compliments on the fit and how I look in the suit all the time. Ryan’s attention to detail and drive to make sure the fit is perfect keeps me coming back.

I have been going to Ryan for about 4 years now. His fashion, suiting, tailoring and style expertise are honestly second to none. He is as knowledgeable and creative as they come nowadays and has the personality to work with anyone.

There is absolutely no individual I would trust more for custom suiting than Ryan Devens. He’s been making suits for me for two years now, and I’ve always left satisfied. So stoked that he’s finally striking out on his own venture with Tailors’ Keep. He has an unparalleled understanding of fit & details– ex: off-​the-​rack clothing often doesn’t fit me, as I have sloping shoulders and a back that curves inward, and he accounted for all of this– and he’s very helpful at helping select patterns that are conducive to the conditions in which you would be wearing the suit, from thick winter wools to more breathable summer-​ready fabrics.
I remember initially telling him on my first suiting appointment that I wanted a «Joseph Gordon-​Levitt» fit, and he pulled it off in spades. Go get a suit from TK!

Tailor’s Keep is created to make awkward guys like me look damn good. Enjoy your glass of bourbon and get a full tutorial on the essential components that are going to be invested into making you the most well dressed guy in the room. Tailor’s Keep isn’t a place to shop for a suit; rather you work with an suit expert to build your own fitted masterpiece. My wife doesn’t allow me to go anywhere else for a suit.

Ryan just fitted me for my third suit. Always, and I do mean always, get compliments on his suits. Out of the blue, walking, «hey, that’s a great suit.» And it is – fabric, hand, and most of all the right fit. Can only do well by yourself with Ryan’s work.
The shirt is also his work.

Ryan takes a lot of pride in what he does and is very intentional in taking the time to get to know his customers and their needs. He was attentive to what I wanted in a suit and developed a concept that was better than I had imagined. It looks and fits impeccably and I receive nothing but compliments anytime I wear it.
