Bartlett Heating & Air Conditioning

Bartlett Heating & Air Conditioning has provided me great service on a few occasions. My air conditioner came with my relatively new house (late 90’s), but is a relatively old model, coupled — somewhat mysteriously — with a fuse box which was equipped with only house-​size fuses, which were significantly undersized for the unit, and which are now extremely difficult to get. Needless to say, blowing fuses has been a problem. When I first used Bartlett, they gave my A/​C a full checkout, gave me advice on how to go easier on the system (for example, not closing vents), and — after procuring the necessary fuses for the box — giving me some spares. They could have advised me to get a new unit, but they did not — they stated that the A/​C itself was fine. They did advise that I change the fuse box. Their advice (except the fuse box bit, which came later) was effective, and it was a long time before I had the need for one of the spare fuses. When I did, again, I got prompt, friendly service, a full checkout of my A/​C unit (it checked out fine, with no need for any coolant refill). I had them back to replace the fuse box, and they did a thorough job, ensuring that the now appropriately-​sized box was well sealed. I’ve had no problems since, even in our recent heat waves. I’ve been very happy with their work, their straightforward advice, their friendliness, and their honesty, and highly recommend them.

My HVAC system developed a leak some time ago, and after having two other A/​C service companies provide repair estimates I called Bartlett. I’m glad I did! The other companies weren’t interested in repairing my system, they wanted to sell me a new one — the unit was nine years old — and they said it should be junked. Phillip Bartlett came out and helped me get the unit up and running at a fraction of the cost others quoted! I will not hesitate to call them if I ever need HVAC service or a replacement unit.

I cannot say enough positive things about Bartlett Heating & AC. My wife, 4 month old son and I just got back from a vacation and our AC was out. The high that day was 95°! Everyone else we called said it’d take at least a week to get around to helping us but Bartlett was able to come the same day and solve the problem immediately. They were super nice, professional and did an amazing job. I can’t recommend them highly enough.

I have used their services more than once and I can’t recommend a better HVAC company. I recently had an A/​C unit installed, and Phil and Mike took their time to figure everything out before they gave an estimate. I had other teams come in for an estimate too, but either they wouldn’t get back, or their quotes were very high. Being an old condo and with strict HOA covenants, it was also challenging to install a new A/​C unit. But Phil and Mike did it! Not only that, when my neighbors complained of noise from the outside unit (the unit itself is quiet, but the construction of the whole place is bad, so the noise got transmitted through the floor), they came back and installed waffle pads to dampen the noise. They also came back promptly when the unit was pushing a lot of air and the ventilators were making a lot of noise — again, no fault of theirs, just that the unit was never built for an A/​C system.
All in all, it was a pleasure to work with them and I trust their expertise and judgement when it comes to HVAC. They pull all the permits required and get the necessary approvals and inspections done. I had also gotten a dryer vented to the exterior previously from them (two years ago), and it works without a hitch to this day!

Well for starters as two people to not have a clue when it comes to HVAC, Phil and Mike were probably some of the most knowledgeable people around when it comes to this trade. My dad and I spent a full day trying to find the right company that wouldn’t screw us over and it was a lot harder than I care to mention. Finally, we came upon Bartlett Heating, we called and to our amazement Mary picked up the phone with a kind tone and a more than willing mindset to help us out. We explained to her that with no heat in the house with a family of 5, our place was starting to turn into an igloo. Understanding the levity of our situation, Mary was able to fit us into Phil and Mike’s schedule. Upon their arrival, we found that they were so kind and filled with customer service. After giving them a brief description of the problem they went straight to work explaining almost every step to my father (who asks a lot of questions), not even once getting frustrated or showing any signs of irritation. Not at any time during their stay did we question ourselves if they knew what they were doing, or if they were trying to get over, just honest kind-​hearted hard working men. (It really doesn’t get any better than that!). Now for the barebone calculations; $ 175 for a new control board, $ 80 for a new transformer (which we didn’t even know was broken!), and last but not least only $ 89 for their time! All in all, the total cost came out to $ 344, which is more than half the price than the other companies we called quoted us at! My dad and I were more than satisfied with the service that Mike and Phil gave us and would highly recommend them to anyone who needs not only professional job done, but with trusting good hearted employees.

I wanted to give these guys a high rating because they are just a well-​mannered family business with courteous customer service (thanks Mary & Ashley), but unfortunately their courteousness was completely outweighed by the fact that despite several calls, they failed to provide a repair quote within the alotted time-​frame (deadline was Friday, it’s been a week and still nothing!), and the fact that they over-​charged me for a repair that made the problem worse.
I had a leaky mini-​split AC unit that spit out the condensation from the front instead of through the drain tube. Phil and Rob came to inspect and did what they could to fix it. But they didn’t have the right material, they didn’t have the right tools, and over all they did a shoddy job of it. Nobody uses zip ties to fix a rotten tube — that needs to be replaced. And no contractor should feel comfortable about leaving a gaping hole in the wall saying that «you should go get some plummers putty and fill this in, I just don’t have anything right now», and you should never say «I don’t have my extension ladder, I can’t inspect this from the outside.
All of that combined turned my leaky AC into an all-​nighter dripping machine. I called Mary about this and she politely apologized saying that she’d get Phil to get me a quote for replacement of the entire piping system, but that was four days ago — despite my plea that I needed this done urgently.
Last but not least, to me it’s sad that a good family business would try to overcharge for silly things that affect the reputation of the whole company. When trying to write up the repair report for the said failed repair, Phil charged 1.5hrs of their time even though in reality it was more like 1.25hrs (I timed it!), and charged $ 40 for about a meter of cork tape. $ 40 buys three rolls of the stuff. I paid him without saying anything because I wanted to be 100% sure he was out of line. After he left I looked up the exact type of tape he used and it was $ 10 for a roll on
. Petty things like this ruin a decent business.
Over all, I don’t recommend them.

Owner Phil and his fellow worker, Rob arrived and did an excellent job of getting our A/​C back up and running again in time for the next heatwave!
Very friendly and happy experience and nice to know these guys knew what they were doing! I highly recommend them!

I never thought I would be writing a Unilocal review about a heating/​air conditioning company!
Our air conditioning stopped working on a Thursday before a weekend that was forecast to be in the 100’s. I got their name from Unilocal,and called them Thursday at 7:00pm hoping to leave a panicked message. Mary answered the phone and worked to squeeze me in for Friday. We thought they were coming after 4:00pm, but they had a break earlier in the day which was even better! Phil quickly decided it was most likely the thermostat, as some models had been recalled. They were extremely nice, professional, reasonably priced and HONEST! We will continue to use them for all our heating/​air conditioning needs.

Great family owned company. Price and quality of work as well as suggested unit were better than the other two we looked at. Essentially, great bang for the buck with no compromise. They scheduled the visit a week after we signed and had it installed in less than a day. Two weeks later we love our a/​c. Super friendly group. Also want to add that they have maintained our heat and fixed the furnace in the last couple of years. When our furnace was down one winter, they bumped us up in priority as I let them know we had a newborn. Very thoughtful and excellent customer service. Thank you Bartlett!!!

I never thought I would be writing a raving review about air condition repair. I scavenged through online reviews and couldn’t settle on which one to call so I called them all. Mary Bartlett was the most helpful person I spoke to (she even told me about her upcoming 30^th anniversary!) and the price was the most reasonable (I called one place and they charge $ 120/​hr!!) Long story short, Mary was able to squeeze me into Phil’s schedule the same day.
Phil Bartlett and Phil’s brother, Mike, came promptly at the scheduled time. They were very friendly and chatty. Both gentlemen were very helpful, kept no secrets from me, and Mike even washed my filters (at no charge!) It honestly felt like my two uncles came by to visit and drink some coconut water, and happen to fix my air conditioner because my capacitor blew up.
In summary:
— Total cost was $ 219 ($ 130 for my new spanking capacitor and $ 89 for an hour of their time)
— Great company to have around
— No BS
— Great customer service

Needed a new heater installed in a house in Santa Clara. Nice, honest, family run business. Showed up on time, installed complete heating system for the price quoted. Not a penny more than the estimate. Takes a lot of pride in his work and it shows, very clean installation with no mess left behind. Pricing was very fair.

I wrote one a while ago, but it’s not in my list, so I’m redoing it.
I had solar installed on the house and was looking under the house and saw that the ducting was apart in places and falling down in others. So, I had four different companies come out and give me estimates. The furnace and AC unit were from 91′ and while they worked, they weren’t energy efficient and needed help. So, I had them give me estimates on just the ducting, as well as with the furnace and AC. The first guy just looked at the old system and tried to sell me the most efficient highest priced units. Phil came out and measured the room it took as well as went under the house to check all the ducting and runs. Then sat down with us and asked us how much we use the system. We only turn the heater up to about 65 in winter and run the AC if it gets about 95 outside in summer. He said that we didn’t need the Variable speed unit or the 96% efficient units as we wouldn’t run them enough to offset the cost of them. I had a couple of others come out and got them all to give me prices on the system parameters that Phil recommended. On of them actually agreed with Phil and asked questions which was nice. Mary followed up by calling and asking if we had any questions or anything they could do help us decide. After comparing them all with prices and units and warranties I ended up going with Phil, and am Very glad I did and would and have recommended him to anyone needing HVAC work done.
Phil, Cody and Robert showed up on time, were conscientious of my concerns with lines and things under the house. They cleaned up after themselves each day, as well as were done a half a day early and fixed some of the foundation vents that contractors over the years had stuck things through leaving holes. Phil also changed the runs on the ducting to make it more efficient. Oh, and they put in a filter box, so I don’t have to take the dam cover off the unit to change out the air filters. What a time and headache saver!
After having our system in for the end of last summer and this winter, I can say it’s very quiet and our electric and gas bills have been lower than ever.
So, if you want it done right the first time and without worrying about being ripped off. Do yourself a favor and call Phil. A great guy who does quality work and at a fair price.

My heater went out on a very cold night and after spending 3 frustrating hours leaving messages at various companies it was really refreshing to find Bartlett. They were very responsive to my request. They actually answered the phone on the first ring!
Phil showed up on time and was very friendly and professional. He took the time to correctly diagnose my heater’s problem and actually had the part that my unit needed.
The entire process went very smoothly and my house is now warm again.

BRRRRR… It’s cold in here! Bartlett is where? Bartlett came to the rescue when my heater stopped working. I was able to reach them by a phone call at 7:30 a.m. I had 2 layers of clothes and 2 layers of blankets on when I was asleep the night before. The temperature was like in the mid 50s on my thermostat. I was relieved that they were able to come in the afternoon, the same day that I called them. Phil and his assistant were knowledgable and found that my igniter had broke and it had to be replaced. They also advised me on the proper installation of a air filter and what types of filters I should purchase in the market right now. With labor/​service charge and the igniter, cost was $ 215. I’m happy to report that it’s warm in my home now. Thanks! I know who to call next time!

These guys were great. They were still within the time window they gave me when they arrived but Phil still apologized for being late.
They diagnosed the problem and got it fixed pretty quickly. Then Phil did some additional checks for free to make sure things were ok. They were super friendly during the visit as well which is a little thing, but it goes a long way.
The system is working perfectly again and I’m happy to have AC in this heat. Five stars for sure. If you need AC/​Heating service, call these guys first.

Phil was fabulous. He came out and gave me an estimate a year ago, but I didn’t pull the trigger until this year. He honored the quote that he gave me and when he came to install the a/​c unit he remembered what we had talked about during the initial estimate.
He did a great job installing the new air conditioner. Phil even advised us on installing a new vent/​air filter and then returned the next day to install it and he didn’t charge us an arm and a leg for the install.
I truly appreciated his work and am very happy with the service.

If I could rate 6 stars, I would… Phil and Mary are awesome. I am in the process of listing my home and wanted to cherry up my home with new HVAC duct work and so based on other Unilocal reviews I called Bartlett. Mary was very courteous in scheduling an appointment for Phil to come out and give me a quote. Phil showed up on time and crawled under my home to check things out. He provided his assessment and quote, which were both detailed and fair. Given I am swampped during the week but wanted to have the HVAC work done ASAP, I initially debated whether to leave a key for Phil and allow him access to my home without me there. After I had the chance to meet him and chat about the HVAC work I was completely at ease and whole heartedly trusted him to work on my home without me there.
Long story short, Phil did a great job and was very professional, courteous and reasonably priced. When I buy my next house I will be calling Phil to do all my HVAC work. Thank you Phil!

I ended up going with Bartlett Heating and Air Conditioning to replace my ancient electric wall heater. Many companies I called either did not answer, call back or know how to fix it.
This company answered right away and squeezed me in for an appt. the next day. This is a family owned business and they seem like very nice and honest people. They did a good job. My heater had to be replaced. It took about a week (including getting the parts) and it was a bit costly (not for what I got, considering all the parts and labor, it was reasonable) because to me it is worth having a heater and a comfortable home!

No question…5 stars. This is a family owned business. The owner Phil is so honest, straightfoward, and he knows his things with gas furnaces.
Our furnace heater turned on but was just blowing room temperature air… not any heat. Phil and his nephew came over and diagnosed a worn out heater switch. Nothing more. No BS… told it like it was. Repaired it fast. Recommended a few maintenence tips with no extra charge.
We also discussed the pros and cons of airduct cleaning. He recommended against it which surprised me. Very honest, insightful, and THOUGHT PROVOKING!
He was reasonably priced. I cannot recommend Phil anymore.
I did see the one star review. I read it. I understand the person who answered the phone with clueless attitude no longer works with Phil. Problem solved.
I will use Phil in the future and will recommend him highly to family and friends.
