Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory

Absolutely the best Chocolate Chip Cookies, fortunately my husband and I only eat them when we come to SLO 1 – 2 x a year, it might be disaster if we had them daily on a regular basis. We share a daily chocolate chip cookie during our visit every time we come to SLO, and we take a few home to Santa Monica. My husband has always enjoyed a few additonal chocolate treats like something for Valentine’s Day, and our neighbors who cat sit for us love their boxes of chocolates. Too bad you’re not located in SM. This is a wonderful place, and it’s next door to the Sock Drawer another special place.

Great staff! They are very friendly and helpful. The store is very nice and clean and has an excellent variety of chocolates and such.

It’s a great little chocolate chain. They have ice cream, but also a wide variety of chocolate confections, many obscure. There’s chocolate deep fried twinkies and peanut butter slabs wrapped up with candy pieces, chocolate dipped bananas, strawberries, apples, long pretzels and marshmallows on a stick. They offer a good selection of truffles and chocolate sweets, there’s bound to be something that’ll tickle your sweet tooth.

Awesome ice cream sandwiches and pazookis. The staff is super nice and helpful and the prices aren’t bad at all. I haven’t tried the chocolate and other stuff in a while, but I remember it being good as well. They are open late, which is awesome for a downtown shop. A must stop while downtown.

The only reasons to go here are for:
1. The chocolate covered strawberries.
2. The sliced caramel apples.
3. The dark chocolate peanut butter cups.
My personal favorite caramel apple is the salted dark chocolate caramel apple. It’s a perfect combo of salty, sweet, and sour– I. LOVE. IT.
The best part is that they SLICE IT FOR YOU, which makes it a LOT easier and more sophisticated to eat. And they slice it for free. We went during farmer’s market (you have to go inside to get it sliced, but that’s okay because their little case is right in front of their store on Higuera.) They didn’t slice it evenly, so if you’re a perfectionist, watch out!

The candy is always pretty good. I went to the farmers market stand today, the kid who actually got my goods (Hunter?) was super nice, and had a big smile.
The woman that took my money talked down to me and the nice kid who was helping me. She was a … Fill in the blank.
I don’t like places that treat their employees or their customers like dirt and with no common decency.
Maybe eat some of your own candy and get a little sweeter, lady.

When I really wanna treat myself to a sweet, I come here and get some amazingly ridiculous concoction of a candied apple. Hasn’t disappointed yet!

I was drawn in by the sweet smells and then tantalized by the amazingly chocolate visions. I did not go for the apples which looked beautiful but rather when for a dipped strawberry, chocolate covered pretzel with caramel and an assortment of clusters with peanuts, macadamias and almonds. Everything was delicious and the staff was very helpful guiding us through the choices.

What happened to this place?
I left an innocuous update to my review stating that, while I still shop at Rocky, I miss the old staff. I changed my previous review to 3 stars… still A-O.K. Yet the owner flagged my review and had it removed. Why? How did a three star review stating «I miss the old staff» violate Unilocal guidelines?
I’ll continue to patronize Rocky, but I respectfully request that the owner chill out.

The chocolate dipped strawberry was sooooo delicious. The milk chocolate on it was just divine. The caramel apple with pecans was okay. I was not impressed, but I’ll be back for the strawberry :)

Pro: Street cart during the weekly farmer’s market, helpful staff, beyond call of duty service.
Con: cash only at the street cart.
The Thurdays farmer’s market is absolutely insane in SLO and if you been there before, you would agree with me. Yet the Rocky Mtn crew are still poised with calm and self control under the chaos to make sure that if I want something that’s not on the cart, they will keep on going back into the store to get what I need. First it was for a unique candy apple, then how many do I need it and what type of cut. Repeat this 3 more times for 3 more different items. Yes, I should of just went into the store, but I didn’t want to cross the vendor lines. But the tiny female staff did and for that, Rocky Mtn gets 5 stars.

My first experience with a Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory was this location as a child.
I quite like their candies as well as their chocolate dipped frozen cheesecake. YUM.

Best carmel and chocolate covered apples in town! This place is super addicting becuase everything tastes amazing! Is a bit pricey though considering it’s just chocolate

a bit over priced but definitely delicious. 6.50 for exotic covered apples is a lil bit too much. taste didnt disappoint though. worth trying once. probably would not go back though.

This is a chocolate /​candy store on Higuera in downtown San Luis Obispo.
I have visited several locations of this chain and amazingly find them to have reproducibly high quality across several states. My recent experience at this one was the worst that I have had.
I ordered several of the made in house chocolates and most items were very good including caramels, pretzels, fudge etc…
One item that they push is caramel apples and we purchased several (to share among several people). This time the apples inside were mushy and partially turning brown. I thought it was probably a single apple but found the same problem in at least 5 other apples and the problem could not have been limited to one batch because it included caramel apples, chocolate covered caramel apples and specialty apples. In addition, the caramel they used was extra soft and became runny or liquid when the apples were transported.
I hope that this location improves the quality control on this major product ASAP.

I’ve never really been interested in this store, but then happened to taste those apples and they are remarkably tasty!
It seems like they have different types available on a daily basis so if you’re really loving one type of apple, you may not be able to get it the next day if they sell out or don’t make more of that specific type. But so far, the two apples I tasted were delish!
I’m not sure if this is a special thing offered by this store (the apple my friend purchased in Mammoth Lakes the weekend before was whole and not sliced), but they offered to slice the apple for us which made it easier to share. Oooo… probably not a good idea for the girl who purchased it since we all got to have a taste of it. :)

I initially reviewed Cowboy N Cookie thinking this was the place. It was not. I removed that review, and transferred it to Rocky Mountain. All is good again. Oh, and ignore the one sentence reviews from the other «members.» They’re obviously full of shit. Here goes.
I have this thing about leaving L.A. at the crack of dawn to get to SLO at about 7−8ish in the morning, so breakfast first thing is what’s on the agenda… or at least some mean munchies.
Me and GF took the main «scenic» tour around chorro street (huh, huh, I said chorro), and no eateries were open. I was thirsty and somewhat hungry but wasn’t in the mood to stop over to Madonna/Margie’s diner. In fact, this was my first time in SLO, so I didn’t know shit.
We stopped in and I bought two warm chocolate chip cookies and a large diet coke. Mmmmm, cookies and diet coke, the breakfast of champions!
I liked it it.
They also have tons of chocolates, gift baskets, baked goods, beverages, etc., it’s SLO’s one stop shop for cookies ‘n shit. The fact that it’s a small business also gives the town a bit of charm.

Jesus, I don’t know why this place is so popular. Yeah its nice, shiny and the stuff is wrapped in colorful tin foil and then some tourist comes in and goes «OH!!! my sister would just love that it’s so gosh darn cute!!»…

Yuck. Flavorless. Bad texture. Grainy.
