History

Established in 2008.

Andrew adopted a Shi-​Tzu Terrier mix puppy, Maya Pyaari, who planted the seeds for Healthy Spot. During the 2007 pet food recall he realized the dangers of commercial pet foods and was determined to find the best products & approaches to feed & care for his newfound puppy. He began talking to other dog-​owners and realized people did not know what was available to properly provide nutritional care for their furry loved ones. Andrew saw the strong need for a retailer to partner with dog owners to pre-​select the best products for their pets. he believes that by providing education & access to the best available nutritional products, he can positively impact the lifestyle of dogs & their owners. Andrew found his calling with his vision of Healthy Spot & moved to la to begin building this new spot for the highest quality products.

Business Owner

Andrew Kim was born in Los Angeles & fell in love with dogs at an early age. He had two Rottweiler puppies, KoKo and Magic as a child & cherished his relationship with his four-​legged companions throughout high school. He attended UC Berkeley, but during college his four-​legged childhood friends unfortunately passed away. His close college friend, Mark Boonnark, was born in New York, & also loved his golden-​retriever Biscuit throughout his childhood. Biscuit spent 12 love-​filled years with Mark & eventually passed away due to cancer. Both Andrew and Mark share an undeniable love for dogs, & though they’ve owned other dogs since, have fond memories of their very first pets. They understand the need to provide dog owners with healthy, quality products to keep healthy & happy dogs. Instead of Andrew continuing his hedge fund career, and Mark pursuing advertising, they followed their dream to honor the memory of their dogs & have a positive influence on pet ownership in Los Angeles.

All I can say is that they are amazing! I used to live in Studio City and the one there is just as good!
Groomers do a fabulous job! My dog sheds a lot and they told me if I came back in 7 days they’d de-​shed him again free of charge!
The sales associates on the floor are great too! They are always knowledgable and happy to help! They got things transferred from other stores that I wanted and followed up with a call to let me know the items were there. Above and beyond any other pet supply store.
The owners obviously care deeply about pets and pet owners having a great experience. The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful.
I cannot say enough positive things about Healthy Spot! If you care about your dog’s health, there are products from grain free dog foods to indestructible chew toys to goat’s milk! They have it all!
Not to mention the incredibly fun events they have all the time! Check out their Facebook. There are weekly hikes and runs and all kinds of events at the store.

Great service and a very nice store. In Manhattan Beach CA. The store had its grand opening today and it was very clean. They have a variety of toys and products to choose from. I was happily surprised to see they carry cat products too.

Healthy Spot is an amazing dog groomer — not only are they passionate about what they do, but they also know how to give that personal touch. When I first brought Max, my Golden Retriever over for a grooming session, they noticed that he was underweight. Turns out, you are supposed to feed certain breeds of dogs EVERY day (as opposed to every other day). I had no idea. Not only did they explain that I should feed Max daily, they even gave him a free bowl of food right there in the store!
On top of all this his haircut was excellent! Max is a happy (and less hungry) camper, and so am I. I would highly recommend Healthy Spot, especially for people who may be novice pet owners. They are happy to suggest ideas that nay seem unusual but in the end will make your pet happier and healthier. Thumbs (and paws)-up!

I like healthy spot a lot. My old lady is blind and going senile, suffice to say, she needs a gentle hand. Also, she doesn’t care where she uses the bathroom these days so we’re here a lot more often.

Really love this place. The staff are all friendly and attentive. There producer really good. It is high end but I like checking out their products. They stock lots of different makes that you can’t find elsewhere. I have converted to the grooming service. They do a great job and will trim according to the style of your breed. I have a #bichon and some places she comes out looking like a terrier! But at healthy spot they make her look like a bichon! The bath includes a blueberry facial (great for white fur dogs) and nail clipping so is on par with petco price wise. Your 8th bath is free so it works out

Love their monthly events. First time going to the playtime event yesterday and my puppy had a blast.
They gave a sample of a raw digestive treat which my puppy loved (and he is very picky) so I will be back to buy more. We also got a coupon so I plan on checking out their daycare as well.
The staff seems very nice and caring. Emma was particularly helpful :)

Whenever my brother’s dog comes around for a visit, I take him to different groomers to get cleaned up. This time around I chose Healthy Spot due to the proximity of where I work. First, I love that they have availability for appointments. They fill up, but I managed to get him in the next day just fine. When I arrived I spoke with the groomer and tried to explain what I wanted done with him. Chester can be prickly, so he’s harder to work with. I liked that Healthy Spot hand dries and they really took their time to make him as neat as possible. Other groomers leave chunks of random long hairs or areas that aren’t even brushed out. He looked very dapper when I got him and he also smelled so nice. Chester will reluctantly be a repeat customer the next time he visits.

It’s Erewhon/​Whole Foods for pets. Be prepared to see stuff that only upper class hipsters would think about buying.
All the workers are friendly and there’s even a little adoption booth between the grooming salon and main store.
I get my dog groomed here. It’s expensive but unquestionably worth it. Other groomers I’ve been to will forget to de-​mat a spot or clip the nails instead of the grinding I paid for. Healthy Spot always gets it right.
There’s a doggie day care too. But it’s a firm 30 pound limit. Mine weighed in at 31 and got rejected.

We have been going to this location for many years and feeling like part of the healthy spot family.
The day care is thorough and we love to get our bath packages there. (the bandanas are the best)
I also buy the raw frozen patties for them (smallbatch is the bomb!)
The manager Natasha is super knowledgable about nutrition and training for doggies, her customer service is outstanding.

— The shop is exceptionally clean and doesn’t have that musty dog smell that you find yourself hit with whenever you enter a branch of one of the better-​known pet retail chains. The level of tidiness alone gives a strong indication of the high standards that the Healthy Spot strives for.
— This same attention-​to-​detail is evident in the way the store is organized. Whether you’re looking for a particular collar, harness, bed, etc., it’ll be easy to find and in plain view.
If you can’t find what you’re looking for, the staff members will be quick to point you in the right direction — you can tell that they have a sincere interest in keeping you and your pooch happy. They’re always ready to offer some advice when you’re torn between one product and the next, and you can almost always expect them to offer your dog some treats to set his/​her mind at ease.
— The grooming services here are of high quality, as well. We’ve taken our dog for a tooth brushing and nail-​clipping ($ 20), and he always come out looking like a real ladies’ man. We’ll definitely be taking him back for a more complete grooming session once his God-​given natural aroma starts to set in again…

Love Healthy Spot! If you’ve got a special pooch in your life that you love dearly, this is your Spot! You’ll find everything you need for your four-​legged friend and more! They offer a huge selection of accessories from leashes to bowls to beds and offer services like teeth cleaning and day care. My dog Louis had his teeth cleaned here and his teeth looked incredible! Sparkling white and he had good breath for months.

I brought my dog into Healthy Spot on Wilshire Blvd in Santa Monica.. I spoke with a young man named LEV, who checked my account and told me that my dog was eligible for a free bath. I was thrilled because this place is quite expensive. When I returned to pick up my dog, the girl at the counter said that’ll be $ 89.
I said I have a free bath per LEV. They then said, we don’t offer free baths with grooming.. What? Why didn’t LEV say that when I dropped the dog off.. , LEV said I didn’t know you were getting a full grooming for your dog. That was clearly false advertisement. Very disappointed. I wonder if the owners know that this is the way they handle regular customers.

I just can’t say enough wonderful things about this place! I recently started adding Primal raw nuggets into my three babies diets per recommendation of a few of the staff here at healthy spot.
Wow what a difference a simple addition can make! My two 13, soon to be14, year old kitties have been running around the house like they’re on catnip haha! All three seem to have a more shiny coat of fur and boundless energy! They definitely appear to be happier and healthier!
Here is what I do… I went from two cans of wet food per day to one. I take out two raw nuggets of the Primal Cat Formula in either Chicken and Salmon or Beef and Salmon or Primal Pronto Cat Formula Rabbit the night before and let them thaw out in a container in the fridge. When I go to feed them, usually in the evening feeding, I open one 5.5oz can of either Wild Calling or Party Animal and I will mix in one raw nugget of Primal. Then I’ll split that mixture between the three of them as it seems to be the perfect amount of food.

Healthy Spot is the Whole Foods of pet shops, if you could also drop your kids off at daycare and get a haircut at the salon adjacent. I just love this place.
I’m out of the house for 12.5 hours a day. Thankfully, my husband is around and gets home way before me, and sometimes can take our munchkin with him to work. But he left pretty suddenly for a week, and I didn’t have much time to arrange something for our pup during the day. He’d passed the «personality» test at the WeHo location, but it made much more sense to have him in Santa Monica, just down the street from my work. Thankfully, WeHo was able to fax over his file and Marty was good to go right away! What a load off my mind.
He had lots of fun at daycare. I love that there’s always one human with them at all times, and when I came in, I saw the woman cuddling him, just the way he loves to be held. How wonderful is that? He gets to cuddle with humans, frolic with other dogs, and gets walked multiple times a day. To make my life easier, I can also pick up his food (V-​Dog, hard to find!) and eco-​friendly products while I’m here.
Since it’s a small chain, I love that there are so many places around LA where Marty is cleared for daycare! Life is unexpected and you never know what you might need, so this makes me sigh with relief.

Absolutely Love This Place!
Lot’s of healthy options for my little Tima. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable and they have helped me find the best food for Tima who is a very picky eater and also the best shampoo and conditioner to keep her curls bouncy and perfect. Just kidding, it was actually to keep her curls from knotting up into joy killing mission impossibles!
I always get her groomed here as well. They always listen to what I want and give great tips as well. Tima is adopted without records so we’re not sure of her breed or age and I didn’t know what I could do with her fur but the guidance Healthy Spot offers is priceless. Even though Tima walks in there shivering (vibrating rather), she walks out with a spring in her step so I know she has been well taken care of.
