Salon D5

New to L.A. last November, I dropped in for a haircut at Salon d5 (soon to be Salon Republic at 1333 2^nd street) and I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. My stylist Sandra had such a warm and caring approach combined with years of experience and a «can-​do» attitude that you’re lucky to find in a stylist/​colorist. As a person who always wore her hair in a pony tail due to cuts that never worked right, I walked out (hair down) feeling so beautiful with my bouncy new look. I wear it down now all the time and it’s grown out great!
Fast forward to yesterday, when I went in to see Sandra for a followup cut and a highlight. She listened in her usual professional and warm way to all my preferences and concerns (I’ve got fragile, thin hair) and went to work. The end result was skillfully layered and full of dimension and shine, but slightly lighter than I wanted. Sandra didn’t even blink an eye when I asked if we could darken it a bit. She perfected the color, spending an additional 45 minutes with me to make sure it was perfectly what I wanted. It became clear to me that Sandra is the sort of professional that is only satisfied when her clients are satisfied. She is a top notch hair artist I’ll trust with my locks from now on!

Where do I start. I moved to Venice from the SF Bay Area about 5 months ago. Starting a new career and In new city I thought it’s time to change my look. I searched for a new hair stylist that specializes in men’s hair. I ended up reaching out to 6 or 7. Sandra Marckoff (new address 1332 2^nd st Santa Monica. Salon Republic Studio 1) was the first one to respond and the only one that really listened to what I was trying to do. I set an appointment and we talked through what I could do with my hair. Over the next several months she worked to find a style that ft me and my hair. She did an amazing job from the first cut. I have never been happier with my hair. At this last visit I feel like we ended up with a new style that’s easy to take care of and looks great. If you are looking to add some style to your hair or for someone that simply understands men’s hair. Sandra is your new stylist.

Obsessed with my new hair! Super worried about having bangs again and thankfully Sandra did amazing! Down to earth personality and can tell she definitely knows what she’s doing. Couldn’t be happier!

I finally found Eloisa! I was so sad to hear about this place closing down, I loved this little hidden gem, everyone there was nice and was frantic about my hair that needed to be restored to life after months not having done anything to it. I needed some of Eloisa’s magic. Thankfully I was able to track down my favorite and the best stylist in LA (Eloisa) I thought I would never see her again especially when I wasn’t given any info on her and where she was… thank goodness to FB I hunted her down and now she works down on Main St, Miakel Bishay Salon! I’m so glad I’m reunited. lol

I picked this salon on a whim plus a last-​minute-​on-​a-​sunday prayer.
Sandra took my appointment at the new location (Salon Republic on 2^nd st). She listened intently to my needs and then nailed the cut — she used restraint and asked questions to make sure we were on the same page.
Not only am I stoked about the results but I found a new stylist with a really chill and low-​key salon. Added bonus: she uses my favorite shampoo/​condish by Kevin Murphy.
Sandra gets me, she really gets me.

I feel so lucky I found Sandra at this salon. She did an amazing job color correcting my hair. My hair was a mess because I’ve been coloring it myself for a long time and obviously I have no idea what I’m doing. She fixed it and found the exact color I wanted.
She also did an ombré color and it looked great.
I highly recommend Sandra. She’s not only great at what she does but she also respected my request and did exactly what I was looking for. I’m very happy with the results.

I don’t know the ins and outs of hair salons, I just know this one made me feel at home the whole time and was relaxing the whole time.
I went in for my appointment to get some color done. I’ve had a few botched jobs recently in other places. Nothing too bad.
Jean seemed to have the ability to go inside my mind and pull out what I was thinking!

She clearly knows what she’s talking about coz she fixed my hair lovely and matched the perfect tone to my skin.
Can’t wait for my next appointment!
Having my hair back the way I want it deffo gives me a little confidence boost! the sorta stuff ya can’t buy!

By far my best experience EVER getting my brows tinted! Aoife is awesome! I have red hair and naturally blonde eyebrows. She makes them as dark as I like them to be, without making me feel like I’m taking up too much of her time. She also gives them the perfect shade of brown/​red. I’ve had so many awful brow tint jobs at other places. (Everything from maroon brows, to patchy brows where they’ve missed some hair.) I’ll be sad when I have to go back home to Texas. 5 stars!
Also, the rest of the staff is just lovely in person and over the phone.
