This review is long over due. I’ve been taking my poodle mix (Bichon, Coton De Tulear, Bolognese, Maltese) after moving from San Francisco — Not sure of my dog’s breed cause I’ve adopted my fur baby. Anyway, I’ve been to other groomers over the last few years. Rex has always cared for and most importantly, do as I’ve asked… Julio and Jeff (owner) are always pleasant and accommodating to no end. Julio has been grooming Jake over the last few years and he has been wonderful! My fur baby, Jake is always happy after his grooming. Rex is such a great place to explore as well. So grateful for such a wonderful establishment in Seattle!

I have been going there with my two dogs since I moved to seattle 2 yrs ago. I was very happy to find clean and nice service pet grooming place at first. Last grooming my dog had was like the nightmare!!! After I picked up my dogs, I found big bloody cut on under my dog’s right front leg. It was very deep so I called the rex. The owner told me he is goung to check with the groomer and call me back. When he called me back, owner told me the groomer accidentally cut his skin. And not letting me know!!! What the f is that? And he didnt even appologize at all!!! All he told me was I should put some medication on the scar and offered me half price grooming service for next appointment (like he was doing a big favor. YOU KIDDING ME?)
This place only care about money and they dont care about customers! You guys just lost big customer!!!

Inconsistent grooming prices keeps me away.
Paid $ 80 for a med sized dog in 2015.
now they are charging $ 130.00.
NOPE!

So, when the beast you’re dog sitting decides he wants to jump into a fountain for his doggie-​birthday, you figure he deserves to live it up like you’ve always wanted to, right?
But then you have a gross smelly dog as that fountain wasn’t super clean after all (note to future possible drunken self) and then you don’t want to return said dog to the owner looking like that.
So, you just call up Rex, you ask for Nicole because — DAMN THAT GIRL CAN MAKE A DOG LOOK AMAZING– and you waltz in, drop off, pick up some (even wheat free) treats for the dog because again, birthday, so even bad dogs get a treat, right?
Then you write a review to say how great Nicole was with your unwieldy beast and turned him into a beauty that everyone wanted to pet and snuggle.
Yeah, that’s how you do it.

If I could give this establishment a zero, I would. I am so beyond disappointment and frankly disgusted by the services provided here. My 9 month old Schnauzer has visited Rex twice since my move to Seattle. The first time was a decent experience but unfortunately I cannot say the same thing about the second trip.
Although the groomer was running a half-​hour behind and did not call me when my dog was finished, that was the least of my concerns. When I picked up my pup from Rex I was shocked to find two large gashes on both of his ears. Due to being new to using a groomer, I didn’t say anything in the moment. I took my little guy home and hoped that the cuts would feel/​look better in the AM. With little surprise, they didn’t. In fact they had become much, much worse. The left ear became completely swollen and tender to the touch while the right continued to bleed. When I called Rex to discuss this, the child who works the front desk barely listened to me before handing the phone to the supposed «owner». After describing what had happened to this man, I was told «well. maybe you should like think about taking him to the vet.» That was it. No apology, no advice on how that could have happened, nothing. Absolutely nothing. I did take this to my vet and luckily both ears are looking better now (a month later) but he will have huge scars for the rest of his life because of Rex and their terrible groomers.
My disgust is with the groomer who 1. Cut both of my dogs ears and didn’t even take the time to apologize OR simply inform me and 2. the owner who was absolutely terrible on the phone. I have been making it by duty to tell every dog owner I know to stay away from this place and both of my vets are doing the same.
Rex should be ashamed. Please do NOT take your dogs here. It’s not worth it, it’s not safe and so ridiculously rude.

A-​holes raised their prices very recently for grooming from $ 65 to $ 85 for medium-​sized dogs — a 30% increase!!! Of course without any notice or forewarning. So I was unpleasantly surprised to find this out when I picked up my dog. I get the increased cost of labor, rent, materials, inflation, etc.; but a 30% increase all in go!!! Forget this shit, never coming back…
I hope your impending business closing is as swift as your price increase.

Be careful with this establishment.
I’ve gone to Rex a couple times before and everything seemed fine. My dog was stressed out on our way home but I figured that was because she isn’t a big fan of baths and grooming.
Today, when I dropped her off, she really didn’t want to go with the groomer and kept looking back at me and needing to be pulled away. That should’ve told me everything. She is a very friendly therapy dog and loves all people.
When I picked her up, she ran toward me full speed and was whining which is very uncharacteristic. When we got home, she kept licking her paws and looked very sad– her nails were cut way too short.
If that wasn’t enough, the place had a crazy price increase without letting me know beforehand (and prices aren’t listed online). When I asked for their new pricing information, the front desk person didn’t know it and just said that «small dogs start at $ 60.»
Needless to say, I’m never taking my dog there again.

Just used the self service station. Really great clean facilities. Had a variety of shampoos to chose from in addition to conditioner and a dryer. Easy! Will be back again.

Mixed reviews are expected with just about any business. I enjoy bringing my Momo the Shiba here. Dana the groomer does such an awesome job on making Momo more and more handsome, awesome smelling and fluffier he even has «feathers» on his tush he never had before. Haven’t had any problems yet so good job guys.

c’mon rex, i gave you a chance to make this right and you COMPLETELY blew me off!
we bring our 6 pound multipoo in every 3 months for a haircut. last time we picked her up after her grooming, you guys forgot to return her collar. no biggie — until we realized that she had a cut under her chin that had been bleeding. if you guys had alerted us to this at the time, i would’ve understood. but no one said anything.
i came in the next day to get the collar and talk about it. the woman working at first didn’t believe me, then i showed her a photo. she said she would «talk with the groomer» and then call me back. and radio silence. never heard from her again.
lame. i was being super reasonable. not aggro at all. WHY ignore me?
needless to say we are NOT bringing our dog back in. and you shouldn’t either.

First time grooming for my puppy. The staff was lovely. My puppy was well groomed and happy. Definitely going back!

We gave this place benefit of the doubt after reading the reviews because come on, everyone deserves a second chance. Wrong. We asked for puppy cut (round face and everything else short all over) NOPE, our pup came out looking like a chihuahua! Expect the unexpected.

I take my big (80 lbs) dog to Rex about every three weeks for them to dremel his nails. My dog is not a big fan of the process, but the Rex team is absolutely brilliant in handling my spooked pooch. I usually work with Julio (he’s amazing), who always goes over and above to make the process speedy while verbally comforting my dog along the way. The Rex team is incredibly professional, always ready to help, and incredibly friendly. I’m thrilled that they are so close to my home (1 block… awesome), and their great array of treats (in a glass case like a bakery) is the perfect end to the dremel experience. My dog automatically walks over to the treat case after the dremel is done, expecting his reward (which he gets each time, like clockwork).
Thank you Rex team for all your great work with my dog. I’ve come to you for over a year now (two years?), and I’ll keep coming again and again. I am a very satisfied customer, and I highly recommend your shop to anyone that asks (in fact, I was just referring a neighbor this morning, which reminded me I should write this Unilocal review to get the word out more broadly).

Reeeeaaallly not sure about this place. Have taken my rescue here about 3 – 4 times now and haven’t ever felt comfortable about it. The grooming always seemed ok (my dog looked clean and tidy) but something always seemed off. Once he was limping afterwards. Another time he was obsessively licking his crotch and rubbing his butt on the carpet for days after he was groomed. He usually doesn’t do any of that. Lastly, his nails weren’t all trimmed (the thumb one is never touched although it keeps growing) and his teeth don’t look like they were ever cleaned. I’ve had more success slowly learning to groom my dog myself and am in the process of looking for another groomer/​location.

I have been taking my dog to Rex for the past year or so. We have always had wonderful experiences with the groomer he sees, but I was told he is no longer at the shop.
I decided to try another groomer at Rex and it was a disaster. When I picked my dog up he was stress yawning and licking his lips, which is not normal for him after being groomed. When I got in the car I noticed blood on my hand and pants. I realized the side of his ear was cut. The worst part, NO ONE TOLD ME when I picked him up. I was told my credit card would be refunded, but that does not change the fact that my dog’s ear is cut. Rex has lost my business for good and I just wish I had checked in with Unilocal before I took my pup to the new groomer because the recent reviews are very telling.

After getting my pup from the shelter, I took him to Rex to get a good scrub down. They did a great job that time so I trusted to go back to them for his future nail trimming.
As you can probably tell from the lack of stars, it has not been a great experience since.
The first time I wanted to get his nails clipped, I called ahead and the woman made me feel guilty for asking for appointments because she was the only one working. I said that was fine and we could reschedule, but she said to come in. I’m not sure if she rushed it or not but…
The next time I dropped him off to get his nails trimmed, he lost it. The man quickly pulled him back, which was a little abrasive to start with, but then they brought him back — reeking of fishiness. He was so stressed out, he expressed his anal glands and was losing tufts of hair as I tried to pet and calm him down. They said they managed to get his back nails, but not his front.
This is a pup who is happy at the vet, constantly will hold your hand, and doesn’t mind you playing with his paws or nails. I can separate his toes and he is fine with it.
I thought his behavior, at Rex, must be a fluke so I offered to go sit with him as they cut his nails, thinking that would maybe calm him down but it didn’t work at all. He whimpered and scooted backwards, and snarled at the tools.
I appreciated Rex letting me go up there with him, but clearly something happened at either the second or third visit and now, seeing these other posts about their lack of full disclosure, makes me think so even more.
Now, months later, we have still been unsuccessful in trimming his nails. He’s been scarred and even trying to do so at home, in a calming environment, with some sleepy pills (vet prescribed) doesn’t even work.
I wouldn’t suggest Rex grooming services to any pets because it is just too risky the service you might get.

What a great first impression /​experience we had with our boy Bogey. The store was welcoming, the staff was super helpful and the facility was very clean.

To the owner of this establishment, Jeff — you are a fool if you think that you can bully your customers for a justified refund and expect them to walk away without warning others of your shady business practices. As you threatened to me, you can remove this from Unilocal if you want, so please feel free — but I am hoping that at least one other person gets to read this before you get to it. as I can tell from a few previous reviews, your business practice of not keeping your customers fully informed when an injury happens to their dog, such as a nail cut to the point of bleeding, isn’t just a «one time mistake» or an «oversight» as you claimed.
I have been taking my dog to Rex since October 2014. the last time I took him was this past Monday, ¹⁄₂₀. I picked up my dog in the evening and was told that he did much better this time, which I was very glad to hear. my dog is super nervous about having anyone, even me, near his face and paws, so I was glad that he was slowly becoming more at ease with grooming. I adopted him last summer and his previous owner did not keep him groomed, so it was all a work in progress for me and my pup. but apprently, everything went off without a hitch. perfect! or not.
what Rex neglected to tell me is that during the groom, they cut the quick of one of his nails. On the car ride home, it began bleeding again. this wasn’t immediately apparent to me as it was dark on the way home. by the time I got home and noticed the blood (which I mainly noticed because I could smell it), the new shirt I was wearing had dots of blood all over it, and the fabric seats of my car had blood everywhere. I called Rex and asked what I could do; I got a half-​hearted apology and was told to use corn starch to staunch the bleeding. so I did. I sat with my dog and wrapped him in a towel for an hour before the nail finally stopped bleeding. I then had to hand wash my clothes, and try my best to scrub my car seats before realizing that they have to be professionally cleaned now. I managed to get in touch with the manager the next day and I asked for a refund. I explained over and over that I was NOT upset at the groomer, I am NOT upset by the actual cutting of the nail. what was so upsetting to me is that the huge inconvenience and mess I had to deal with afterward could have been avoided if they had just informed me of what happened. I would have taken the necessary precautions to watch my dogs paw to ensure he didn’t get all excited and make it bleed again. the owner, Jeff, apologied and offered instead to cover my next groom. I was skeptical but I accepted, because up until now, I had been extremely happy with Rex. In fact, I had a previous 4 star review on here (that is now deleted). Before the manager contacted me, I wrote an honest, 2 star review regarding this recent experience and again I re-​iterated that I was not upset at the mistake itself. I was upset at the lack of ownership. I felt like other pet owners should be aware that they need to ask Rex if anything happened to their dog, because clearly I am not the only person this has happened to.
Yesterday I got a call from Jeff. He asked me to remove my 2 star Unilocal review because it was «damaging» and could ruin their reputation. I initially agreed because I was sleeping at the time, but after a few moments I realized that I had no further interest in working with Rex. I felt like contacting customers and asking them to remove reviews wasn’t very professional or truthful, so I called Jeff back and told him that I wasn’t comfortable with this and I asked instead for a refund.
What happened next is an argument that I can’t fathom would come from a ‘professional’ establishment like this. Jeff told me that he absolutely WOULD NOT refund me unless I removed my review. I again re-​iterated why I felt my review should stay. negative reviews happen, and I still felt that mine was justified as a warning to others, regardless of the future free groom. We literally argued like children — him talking over me, me becoming upset and raising my voice, which I never ever ever do to anyone who owns a business. I just couldn’t believe what he was saying… «I can call Unilocal and get your review removed.» «Why should I refund you?». «This is how business works. I’m not giving you a refund unless you take that review down.» I angrily hung up the phone but called back shortly after I removed my review (which I will post a picture of) and he agreed to refund me. I picked up my check today, and he ‘thanked’ me again for removing the review.
What kind of business does this? Who flat out fights with a customer, and BULLIES them to remove a negative review? I am not some irate, crazy woman who tries to tear down small businesses. I loved Rex, but after the way the owner treated me like a child, I will never step foot in that place again. Jeff/​Rex, do not ever contact me again. I will tell everyone I know to stay clear of you.

Friendly staff and they all seemed to really love animals. They do a lot of grooming here from big dogs to small and they are very well equipped for it. The items in the store are neat and are always changing. I saw some of the same toys though on amazon for cheaper.
