I have to say this is my favorite gym I have been to. It just has an all around good vibe! The second i walked in I thought it was amazing. literally feels like your in paradise. Its always extremely clean and organized. All the machines are new and top of the line. The reason i started going to this gym was to train with Margarita Mitchell! One of my best friends trained with her and she had insane results, so i said I’m finally going to do this! Ive been training with her for 2 months now. She is an amazing trainer, i.e. learned so much from her. she makes working out fun, and thats what i have been missing for a while now. She gives everyone their own diet plan for 7 days of the week on her 8 week program! With all she has done for me i have felt so good about myself again and just honestly excited to workout everyday with her! I am so thankful to of started training with Margarita, her and Iain are the trainers you should try if your stuck and need that push, plus you meet people to train with and motivate you through your entire journey! I would say join islands and meet the Mitchell’s, you won’t regret it:)

I do private training with Margarita as well as take some of the classes she instructs at Islands. The gym is beautiful and always clean! I’ve gone to personal trainers in the past and she is by far the most dedicated and passionate about what she does. She knows how to make her clients look and feel amazing. She has personalized my workouts and diet plan in order for me to get the best results. I only started her program about 2 months ago and not only do I feel stronger physically but also mentally. She is constantly motivating us to push ourselves to be where we want to be. I have a little ways to go but I know with the help from her I will be the most confident and happy I’ve ever been. I am so thankful I started going to this gym and met the Mitchell’s!

First off, what an amazing /​clean gym this place has transformed into! Let me just tell you, from the moment you walk in with staff greeting you with warm smiles, it makes your visit super welcoming. May I also add how awesome it is that they have FILTERED water fountains and a water bottle refill station + towels for you to use! Let’s not forget the sauna that is in each the Men’s & Women’s restrooms. Just can’t get enough of this place and the new look they’ve got going on!
BUT that’s not all, the trainers (Margarita w/​Mitchell Fitness to be exact) have beyond met my expectations of what a trainer should be…
Mitchell fitness has been nothing but amazing and understanding of the changes I am making with my lifestyle and have slowly adapted my body to get used to their workouts. Their purpose for training people is not just to stick them onto FAD diets or strictly shakes 3x a day, their goal is to get people fit and have them feel amazing in the skin that they are in. They actually take the time to build a meal according to your liking (and with their knowledge) what will benefit your body. I have had nothing but positive experiences with this team (Margarita) who has been working with me really understands my goals and is helping me meet them day by day. Not only is it about the body weight, there are many factors Margarita does not forget to do. Such as; following up with how many inches I’ve lost, how our plans are going, and even down to the type of music we prefer when we are working out! It literally can’t get any better than this. I look forward to working out every other day with her so I can continue to see results coming in and prepare myself for my upcoming Mud Run!

I have been to many gyms Simi Valley and have to say that Islands is hands down my favorite place to workout in town.
When you walk in, you’ll see that the machines are all state of the art, the weight room is kept pristine, and the locker room is spotless. This is all great, but the two reasons I love this place are simple: Margarita and Iain Mitchell.
Since I started working out with the Mitchell’s the changes I’ve experienced are nothing short of incredible.
I’ve been heavy my whole life and have lost and gained large amounts of weight several times. Anyone that has been heavy knows what this battle feels like. I had been wanting to start working out again a couple of months ago and tried on my own to lose weight but wasn’t really getting anywhere except more frustrated and depressed. A friend of mine introduced me to Iain and Margarita and I was so impressed with them during our initial meeting that I started working out with them shortly after.
Before our first workout, Margarita throughly asked me questions about my goals, health history, special needs, etc. I had several dietary restrictions/​allergies so I was really concerned about trying any sort of meal plan that was outside my normal routine. Margarita and Iain were both so compassionate and supportive, and adapted the plan to fit my needs and lifestyle. I was at the point where I knew that in order to change, I had to step outside my comfort zone… this was really scary for me, and I’m not certain I ever would have done it had it not been for her and Iain and their belief in me.
Besides dietary restrictions, I also had a very weak shoulder that I have dislocated in the past, and was also getting over tendonitis in my foot. There were many exercises I could not do. Margarita modified every workout we did together to help strengthen these problem areas and the rest of my body at the same time.
When I first started, I trained strictly with Margarita. I fell in love with our sessions at the gym, and put everything I had into following the program. I was seeing physical progress on a daily basis and gaining the ability to do new things each week. I started to feel hopeful about my future again, and started to remember some of my old dreams that have laid dormant for far too long. On top of that, my body was (and still is) changing drastically and I have gotten stellar results every two weeks when we take progress pictures.
Besides my one on one sessions with Margarita, I now also workout with Iain one on one. I have to say that one of the things I love most about working out with the Mitchell’s is that no two workouts are ever alike whether you decide to train with one or both of them. I literally leave our sessions completely spent, totally inspired and bummed that it’s over. The variety of exercises they both come up with blows me away. After 3 months of training, I am still continuing and have no desire to stop anytime soon.
I have worked out with a lot of trainers in the LA area and I have to say that Margarita and Iain are unlike anyone else. They will give you their all and are genuinely passionate about helping others. They both love fitness so much that you can’t help but fall in love with it, too. They have both made amazing physical transformations (seriously, ask them to show you before and after photos – they are incredible!!). On top of that, they have given me outstanding results. I have taken their SGT classes, bootcamp, and personal training and would highly recommend any type of training with them. I would take every class of theirs if my schedule allowed it.
I have wanted to be athletic and fit my entire life, and had given up on those dreams until the Mitchell’s came into my life. I’m not just getting smaller, I can now say I’m physically strong which I’ve never been. The weaknesses from my shoulder and foot injuries are almost gone completely. I can do sit ups and many intense ab exercises I’ve never done in my life. I can now jog a mile without stopping and do jump rope for long periods of time. I’m building muscle and getting definition all over. I can also lift more weight than I’ve ever been able to. On top of that, many of the dietary issues I had have gone away – I’m able to eat completely differently because my metabolism has changed. At least once a day someone will make a comment to me about my progress and how different I look.
Margarita and Iain aren’t just helping me to change my body, but they are helping me to change my life. I can’t say enough good things about them. I would highly recommend them to anyone and everyone looking to make a physical change, whether that’s weight loss, gaining muscle, improved flexibility, or total transformation.

THIS PLACE IS A SCAM!!! My girlfriend received a mailer that made offers of a free month or 0 initiation fee and month to month. It was close to home so she went in and of course, none of it was true. Nothing but high pressure sales by some snot nosed smart ass little prick. Now you know why 24 hour fitness is so busy

After posting my review below this morning, we received a phone call from the General Manager with a very sincere apology. I am truly impressed with the quick response and appreciate the time they took for a personal phone call. The GM reassured us that they have taken the steps necessary to make sure this doesn’t happen in the future.
Thank you Mr. GM for restoring my faith in your establishment!
Well here we go again! They should change the hours posted on their door to read, «No guarantees on what time we’ll open». Twice this week no one has showed up to open at 5:00 am. If you can’t find dependable people, owner/​management, show up yourself!

Clean facility and they consistantly open on time. Equipment gets repaired quickly when it malfunctions. I do not take any classes or use the showers but they seem accessible and clean.

If you would like to have a personal trainer who caters to your special needs, Ricardo is the right one for you. He is always in a great mood and pushes you to do your best in a positive manner. The equipment is new and constantly being cleaned and wiped down.
Islands is a great place to workout at a great price. The hours are perfect for the busy one who needs to squeeze in their workout.

Ok, i just got off the phone with Doug one of the GM’s and this guy is a class act. I owed a balance on my account for almost a year now but haven’t been to the gym since May. Not only did he work with me on a payment plan, but also is letting me have access to the gym so I can go back anytime! I’ll for sure be using my «second chance» ! I was not expecting that at all! I just wanted to be square with the money I owed! Thanks for everything Doug :)

HOLY TOLEDO! Never enter this gym. I made the unfortunate mistake of walking through the place and being pitched a membership. As the salesman made his pitch, I began to fill out the form for the «free» 30-​day trial. At the point when I discovered not only it wasn’t free but that I’d need to provide a credit card, I chose to walk. The other woman with whom I did the tour chose to take part in the trial.
Months down the road I’m advised out-​of-​the-​blue that not only was my incomplete application processed but that I supposedly OWE the gym $ 125 dollars. Say WHAT?!? Having never gone to the gym except for the walk-​through and refusal to join, I’m beyond appalled. Joseph (the manager in charge of memberships) threatened me over the phone and literally tried to insult me into submission. He provided two options: give the gym half of what they feel I owe for a membership I never agreed to OR be sent to collections and have my credit impacted.
Not only do I find their tactics to be reprehensible, I feel completely validated in my decision to walk out of there and never return. My mistake was not taking that incomplete contract w/​me. Apparently there’s a signature on the bottom. Did I sign it? Maybe I did, maybe I didn’t but w/​o a credit card or the rest of the contract filled out, how can it be legal? Well, apparently they feel it is and the unnecessary drama of calling someone who never joined their gym and to tell that person to pay for a membership I never even knew I had for the last three months is how they do business. Wow.
Still waiting to receive an emailed version of said contract and to hear why I wasn’t contacted before now.
Run, don’t walk, to the YMCA. The people in charge of this place appear to have an out-​of-​whack moral compass.

Happy to say that Islands does listen to their members! Much better class schedule without paying extra! Hoping the schedule just gets better and better! Islands Fitness is a great place to work out with great people!

Very clean facility. Good equipment, and very personable staff. I’m picky with my gyms, but island is a home run for the price for sure!

Just revived a call from islands gym, seemed like he was fishing. I cancelled my membership in 2014!!! Said he didn’t know when it was cancelled that would be on them keep better records!!! Said I was going to collections, Really… If you are thinking of joining a gym, head to Golds or 24 hour, I am sure they keep better records, and better customer service!!! AVOID this island its deserted!!!

To crowded and overpriced

I used to really like this place I even signed up for the year contract. Until they got rid of the best girls who ran the daycare. I only take the classes which Kathy is awesome but can only teach so many classes. The rest of the classes at the time I can go are not good in my opinion. This has left me very frustrated causing me to go elsewhere. I’m especially not happy that I have to continue paying every month even though I’m not going because I signed that contract and they will not work with me so I am now stuck paying two gym memberships and this just makes me feel like this gym is starting to become like the one it was before Simi Work Out they were always screwing people. Really disappointing.

I’ve been going to the gym for over a year now. I joined because of the classes they offered. They had cancelled the two classes I enjoyed and moved the third class to a different day and time.
I finally decided to cancel membership. Called several weeks ago and asked what was the proper way of canceling. They said come on in and fill out paper. I got so busy I forgot about canceling.
I finally had time and went in today and the girl said you will be billed an extra month. I said why. She said its a 30 day cancellation period. I told her why wasn’t I told when I called. So this guy walks up and says sorry but it’s policy. I said understood but you need to train the people who take the calls to give out correct information. He got pissy with me and said fine I will do it right now. I asked for his name and he got all cocky and said I’m the manager.
I have referred over a dozen people from company to this gym. Think it’s time to let them know how they treat people!

I don’t understand why they don’t have anymore Sunday classes. I work full time, five days a week and can only do the weekend classes. I am starting to look for another gym at the present.

Just moved about a mile from the facility and I checked this place out. Been a member about a month and I’m pleasantly surprised.
First off I have only had a membership at chain gyms (24 hour, la fitness, anytime), and it’s much different here. This gym is very well maintained and for the first time in a gym I feel comfortable showering at a facility, they usually stink and have plumbing issues that are never fixed. The owners and staff are very down to earth and take a big effort getting to know their members.
The gym is on the smaller side, but it’s very easy to get a workout in. Even at its most crowded times I never have to wait to use weights because only 10 are checked out at a time and there’s about 100. Cardio machines have TVs and headphone jacks.
Good hours.
Only downside is no other locations. If you live over 15 miles it’s probably not worth it, but if you are closer it is.

I went to this gym for about a year. Its a nice gym, clean as hell and the staff is somewhat friendly. The female staff is a lot more friendlier than their male counterparts but whatever. Anyways the only real downside I had with this place is that its very small. The dumbbell section on a Monday night can get very crowded very fast. They have two smith machines, and one squat rack. I wish they had more squat racks or at least a power rack and a squat rack because I’d have to be waiting a very long time to do some squats. Overall its a solid gym. It was real convenient for me since I only lived about 5 minutes away walking distance. I loved this gym but I won’t miss it too much.
