Desserted Island

It’s one of those small business Asian owned yogurt places you kinda feel sorry for because there is no one inside. But I did have the sweets attack so this was actually a good place to get that.
Not a lot of yogurt selection out there. They only have 3 machines for a total of 8 or 9 different flavors. Lots of toppings, but little to no fruit. The only fruit they had were cantaloupes. They had some maraschino cherries, but I hardly count that as fruit.
It’s 39 cents per ounce and if you guess the right weight/price.its free. Nice owner, small coffee table and couch area with a flat screen tv, and some seats outside, but other than that, it’s just a small yogurt place right next to Pizza Port. It’s right across the street from the train station.

Update #2: It is now Yummy Yogurt. So i guess this page should be removed. Different staff, different yogurt, same location. My two beefs are with the new ownership is the early closing hours, Desserted stayed open till 10 which made a post pizza port yogurt sesh doable, this is no longer. Also the prices went up significantly.
Update: These guys apparently got bought by «Yummy Yogurt», another store from Scripps Ranch, and have since changed their name. Too bad. I really like the staff. I have not yet been in since the store changed hands. From another review, prices look like they’ve gone up from 39 to 44 cents an ounce. Ouch.
These guys are always super nice. Yeah, its hard to compete with Yogurtland and Swirls, but they get pretty close. Could use some more flavors, but the ones they have are always pretty good. Does the job for being my local yogurt shop. And they stay open pretty late which is cool so you can hit em up after you’re stuffed full of pizza and beer from Pizza Port next door. I like supporting the little guys as opposed to the big corporate places so give em’ a shot. You may even get a free one if you guess the price. He even gave us two chances the last time. Been there 10+ times and every employee we’ve seen has been super nice and friendly.

It was a cold dark night in Solana Beach. Following my epic weekend of Halloween Horror Nights and exotic sushi in L.A., I disembark the train and miss the 7:30 bus to UCSD. The next bus doesn’t come for an hour. I felt stranded and alone, as if abandoned on a deserted island. But just across the street, a big bold word on a big bright sign lures me to feel a sense of security and of stimulating appetite: YOGURT. As I drew closer, I realized that I would be entering Desserted Island. But this time, it was the kind I wouldn’t exactly mind getting stranded on!
This place does a lot of good, but I believe it has even more room to grow. Though they have probably half of the flavors of the elite self-​serve yogurt places, the flavors are rich, tasteful, overall incredibly satisfying, Creamy coconut definitely stood out, and it’s shockingly delicious with the plain tart. The combination of chocolate caramel and vanilla makes a delightful ice cream sundae.
When you walk in to the store, you will be fascinated by the first impressions of the topping counters/​walls (by walls, i mean those cereal/​candy dispensers with fun turning knobs). But I searched in vain for the plethora of fruit that usually always greets me at the counter. The guy at the counter had swapped out the strawberries for cantaloupe and honeydew (both of which were actually quite fresh, so even though there wasn’t a variety of fruit, the melon was very tasty). Why can’t we just have all 3??? You could always swipe out one of the 11 cereals or 15 chocolate chip hybrids!
Something that also makes Desserted Island stand out is the quality of service. In such a small location, one might feel awkward, as the cashier watches you like a vulture because he has nothing else to do until you make your purchase. But the staff here was personable and helpful, PHEW! And if you guess the price of your yogurt, you get it free. Playing this game reminds me of a mini-​carnival game: you’re either on-​the-​money, or you walk away with a slightly bigger hole in your wallet. I was off by 3 MEASLY CENTS!
There are definitely some kinks that Desserted Island could patch up, but these «flaws» are not big enough to allow me to deter you from getting lost in the indulgent flavors and bonding w/​the friendly staff.
And yes, after an excellent adventure on Desserted Island, I was rescued by a bus and returned safely to UCSD, where midterms await. I would rather be at Desserted Island.

Only eight flavors, but lots of choices for toppings. The most unique thing about the place is if you guess the price then it’s free. I was off by 8 lousy cents. I almost got my yogurts free. So close!

Limited outdoor seating is the only drawback, but there’s not much space for chairs so you have to make do.
his place makes an excellent desert after eating at Pizza Port next door or is great for a simple snack anytime.
Kids behind the counter are nice and friendly too. Cool little yogurt shop — I’d give it 4.5 if that was possible.

Nice little yogurt shop across from the Solana Beach Amtrak. Similar setup to Yogurtland with a slightly smaller yogurt and topping selection, but great flavors. If you can guess the price of your container you eat for free! I was off by 2 cents… daaang!

Maybe the yogurt was a little softer than I would have liked, but I thought that the selection was fine. They have 6 – 8 flavors? That’s plenty indecision for me. That day they had red velvet cake flavored yogurt and OH MY GOODNESS that was delicious! Tastes just like red velvet cake– no lie. I also tried their orange flavor, and it was also delicious– tasted just like orange sherbet– but didn’t really match with the red velvet, which I knew I needed to get. In terms of everything else, the other reviews are otherwise pretty accurate with what you’re getting– close to Pizza Port (hey, why I was there too), yogurt by the ounce for 39 cents, the usual selection of toppings. I suppose if it weren’t for the red velvet yogurt, they would have only gotten 2 – 3 stars by me.

I could almost give this place five stars just because of its proximity to my house. I don’t have to cross the 101 for yogurt anymore.
Excellent plain tart, pretty good chocolate, and an absolutely scrumptious raspberry pomegranate sorbet that I was craving for most of the next day. Lots and lots of toppings including mochi, coconut, fresh fruit (strawberry, kiwi, mango, Mandarin orange…)
I love that you pay for the weight of your yogurt and therefore can try as many different things as you want. And it’s 39 cents an ounce! Totally reasonable.

Located next to Pizza Port, I doubt we would of ever stopped to get yogurt here. Seems like these self-​serve yogurt places have been popping up all over the place. Love the concept. Just not the execution. :(There weren’t a lot of yogurt flavors to select from and some really odd toppings I’ve never heard of.
The highlight was probably trying to guess the price to get the yogurt for free. We received a buy 6 and get the 7^th free card which is probably the only reason I remembered to review this place.

It is just not their day. The ones that were had slushy yogurt. The only tart yogurt was pineapple!
There was a lot of toppings (also in the picture) and fresh fruits but that was a disappointment too. The lychee jelly was sticky and just looked old. sigh. I learned a new trick with yogurt that doesn’t taste good; get crunchy chocolate toppings and do not get fresh fruit. The fresh fruit is subtle and soft which doesn’t help to hide the yogurt. The crunchiness of the chocolate hides the slushy yogurt and the chocolate over powers the taste.
The décor was the only thing that I liked. Too bad it had all the looks and none of the substance.

The Yogurt was okay and the toppings were awesome. I had the fat free something and added several toppings to fix that problem. The building is brand new and the sign out front said Grand Opening (even though I was told that it had been open for 3 months) the young lad behind the counter was nice, the funny thing was is he smelled like beer, but being right next door to a brewery seemed to solve that mystery. I hope they improve the feel and decorate a little better it was way to bright inside

New frozen yogurt store near Fletcher Cove and Pizza Port; handy for those hot summer afternoons or when you just have to get some fro-​yo after some pizza at Pizza Port. $ 0.39/oz…very clean store… not as many flavors as the other stores I frequent, but decent tart vanilla that hits the spot! :)
