After being told that we were first in line for an apartment they had listed, the apartment was given to someone else after we’re were told that my wife needed a cover letter to explain her work. She explained that She does freelance photography and doesn’t have a steady income from it, but pointed out that I make far more than needed for the rental. The agent apologized and said that they had another unit available on Tuesday and they would call us so we could submit. I asked to submit our application and was told that they legally couldn’t until we had seen the apartment. When I called today to see if we could see it yet, I was told that the apartment had already been rented to someone else, even though it wasn’t even available to view. We feel that we were highly discriminated against in both apartments and will be taking this matter further. Their agents were very unprofessional and misleading, and straight out dishonest. This is no way to do business.
Update:
When I went in to pick up my deposit, oh woman was very kind to me until I told her who I was. She then said «oh» as she turned her nose up to me. Grabbed my money order and without looking in my direction, held it in my direction, not even giving a simple sorry things didn’t work or anything. Complete contempt. Great way to treat potential customers. Those of you who know me, know I’m a pretty easy going guy that doesn’t hold grudges… Yet, I detest this company and their rude, unprofessional employees. Never ever ever work with these people. There are plenty of other real estate agencies in Pasadena… Thankfully for us all!

First off we have lived in our past home for 15 years. We needed to move & Bryant companies made this transition for us very easy. From viewing the house, our application process, to moving in. They were pleasant to work with, efficient & professional. I am very pleased with Bryant Companies and hope this review will help you with your decision.

I just wanted to expose my experience with Bryant because I notice they’re not getting the love they deserve from Unilocal.
I am a resident with Bryant, (2) months now. The process I experienced wad nothing but greatness! I was approved within a week, and had a move in date within the next week. The were very helpful when it wad time for move in, and even before that. The payment process could be easier for rent, and everyone at the office is super helpful and cheerful.
I’m not sure why all the bad reviews, but to me… It seems that it’s just coming from people that weren’t approved and have sour taste in their mouths.
Overall, great company that will help you scout locations, and if approved, very helpful.

Had an excellent experience with these folks. The property is super clean, inside and out. Josie was extremely helpful, and even got us into our new home ahead of schedule! We love our new place!

Really really bad service. My husband and I wanted an apartment from these guys and they told us we were first to be considered but we needed to send over extra info. After I sent the extra info we were told the apartment had been released to someone else but another one in the same building was becoming available, we asked to submit our application and were told we couldn’t legally until the apartment was available to view which was another 5 days away. I called on the fifth day after they said they would contact us but no response. Of course someone else had taken the apartment because they had gone to look at it whilst it was under construction and been approved somehow even though we were not offered to look at the apartment earlier. My husband and I have great credit and a great income, and were really disheartened by how they messed us around and made us feel like we were not taken care of at all. At the end of the day they care about their customer who is the owner, so just be careful when going through these guys. They were also unprofessional and rude to my husband when he went to pick up our money orders for the credit check. Overall I do not recommend this company, but if you are going to go through them and want to get approved, make sure your application process is as easy as possible as they will put the easiest app first no matter how good of a potential tenant you are. #lazy #theydontcareaboutyou

You never checked my references, did anything to help me at all. I had already talked to Connie about my boyfriend’s credit and she had told me she wouldn’t let that be the main issue. My credit wasn’t the issue, I have a 740… I’m bothered that you we were so cold to me. what did you do with the rest of my paperwork? Did you shred it like you are supposed to? It’s just not okay to not respond or call people back. No matter what you told me about it taking 2 – 3 days to process. The manner in which you told me was just ridiculous. Oh the owner wants to keep showing the apartment. Be honest and say, I want more money, I want more applications, and I am going to convince Connie to wait until I get 20 applications that way I make loads of money and then we can better decide on an applicant. I seen this coming since the moment I met you. I should have trusted my instinct and I regret trusting in you.

The NEW Berkshire Hathaway on Fair Oaks is a one stop shop for all your real estate needs. They handle leases, sales and property management. Everyone that works there is friendly and knowledgeable.

The scenario: I turn in my application. This is on a monday… (Website instructions for prospective tenants states that after applications are turned in together with $ 35 per person credit check fee, bryant companies will check credit, and contact applicant).
No one calls. Me. So by thursday, I call them. The response is that owner will make a decision by tommorrow, or friday. No one calls on Friday.
On Saturday about noon, I get a call from Josie, saying that my application has been approved. We agree that I will take the deposit $ by Tuesday of coming week.
Same Saturday two hours later, I stop by bryant companies office on fair oaks to get the keys to my future apartment, because I wanted to start measuring the space to arrange furniture.
The receptionist tells me that Josie is not in at the moment, and will not tell me when she will be in. She just tells me to leave josie a voice mail and she’ll return my call the following day. She tells me that this apartment will very likely go to another party, and that I shouldn’t bother measuring any walls. Very confused, I try explaining to her that I just spoke to josie, a couple hours ago.
She continues to repeat to me that I am wasting my time. Finally I just leave josie a voice mail stating that I am very concerned as I have just given my 30 day notice to my present landlord.
It’s now sunday, and no response. I call and leave the same message.
It’s now monday, and no response. When i call in im told she called in and she was running late. Im transfered to her voucemail and I leave a 4^th message.
On Tuesday, I finally get transfered to her. I explain to her that I’ve left multiple messages, and she replies: «I don’t work weekends».
I go on to explain, what my issue is, that I don’t understand how a company as large as the one she works for can operate on so much inconsistencies, and lack of professionalism.
She then tells me that the owner is having second thoughts about me, and will probably rent to someone else.
She apologizes, and says she has no control of what owner does.
I explain to her that she’d told me to bring in deposit, so I turned in my notice.
I was shocked at the few interactions I had with the staff from Bryant companies.
I’m in awe at how a business can operate with no sense of professional etiquette, or regard for other people’s livelihood.
Needless to say, I am now 14 days away from being homeless if I don’t find somewhere to rent ASAP.
I hope prospective tenants read this and other very similar reviews, and If you must do business with these people, then get everything that is said to you in writting.
As for me, my next call is to the Better Business Bureau.

Update: It is now Wed night STILL no word and I still see that the apartment is available on websites. They supposedly «met with the owner and decided on a tenant.» This truly might be a scam company…
I would give this place a 0 star if I could! I should’ve trusted all these other reviews but I gave them the benefit of the doubt.
I first went to go look at the apartment that was posted on a website. And when I called, the lady was very rude and spoke to me in a condescending manner. I called prior to heading over to the apartment, to make sure there was someone there. Not once did she ever tell me that the keys to the apartment were at their office (located in another place). Yes, the ad did say that you need to pick up keys from the office, but that could mean inside the building as well, as I assumed. If I worked in real estate, I would make sure that the customer knew the exact details. Then I called for a second time when I arrived. So now, she says that theyre located 2 miles away from the building. Hmm… with a very unpleasant, sarcastic and rude tone. Then, I called again for the third time, when I couldnt find it and she says did you type in South Pasadena? I’m like uhh no? You just said the address and didnt give me the city. I dont live in Pasadena and don’t know there’s a south and regular Pasadena. She acted like I have all the time in the world to be driving back and forth! Very frustrating when you only have time on the weekends and you’ve got other places to view. I drove from an hour away!
Anyways, okay we liked the unkept, outdated apartment we just viewed because it allowed dogs and the space was huge. So, we sent in an application. They seriously, robbed me of the application fee ($ 70 for two persons).each person living in the apt needed to apply. I have moved around 5 times in the last two years (because of work) and I have never needed to apply twice (living with my fiancé). Okay, fine… its their policy not going to argue. I had been dealing with Josie (who handles this property). She couldn’t wait to get off the phone with me when I asked her questions. I felt like I was unappreciated as a potential tenant. I asked her questions like, «Are they going to replace the filthy carpet» and she didnt know. Most of her answers were, «That’s up to the owners.» OKAYYYY FINE LOL I just put all the bad experiences I have had with this incompentent company and wait for the credit check. A week passes by, NO WORD. So, I call and I am told that a pool of applicants will be presented to the owners over the weekend. So, I wait until the weekend is over. NO WORD. I call in Monday to follow up, calling a million times. I get, «Oh shes going to be late today.» Two hours later, «Oh she never showed up today, call tomorrow.» I left 3 voicemails. NOTHING THE NEXT DAY. So, she must be ignoring my calls. Seriously, all I wanted was to be told if I didnt get an apartment, Straightforward. It’s now Tuesday, with 6 voice messages left between me and my fiances, still no word.
I’m not in business or customer service, but that is not how a business should be ran. A living situation is an important matter and one that should be dealt with in a prompt manner. I take it as a blessing in disguise that I didn’t get this apartment. Because, reading the other reviews, they could have done some shady things while I was living in a unit they manage.

I highly DO NOT recommend this company due to the lack of competence, customer service skills, unprofessionalism. They obviously do not value their potential tenants and it’s very distasteful.

Unfortunately I have to agree with the other reviews here. This company has no integrity and may possibly even be a scam. They took our money for a credit check but then after weeks of waiting, told us the unit was not even available for rent. To take your money to run a credit check for a unit not even available for rent is fraud. If it was an honest mistake then the right thing to do would be to offer a refund, but when we requested one, they refused. Based on the other negative reviews of this company, I would recommend for everyone to stay away.

I have to agree with these other renters. South Pasadena market place is prime for companies and individuals to be greedy and look out for no one but themselves. During the summer months it is highly competitive in South Pas as people with families are trying to move into a limited supply of housing that are not apartments. This leads to stiff competition that some landowners gladly play their hand and start a bidding war and go with the highest bidder.
If you see a listing from Bryant Companies I would think twice before going to see the place unless you are willing to 1) throw money away on a wasted application process if you don’t want to bid up the price 0r 2) you are willing to bid up the rental price but then you are paying for property that is not worth it. This is primarily for houses my guess as I don’t think the apartment process is like this unless it is a townhouse.
I am quoting from another review here as this is the exact same experience I had with a specific property we saw with 20 other couples where the owner was greedy and the rental company was the same way. The one thing I would like to add is that they said the application is good for 3m ($ 70 for 3m?) but they fail to say is most of their properties are 1bd units and most owners & real estate people in the local market will stay away from them for larger houses etc. And then you don’t hear a peep from them after wards even if you see other properties listed. They go through the same process knowing that they have a stable of interested applicants that paid the $ 70 already on file. Do they email those people? Nope? They just want new blood to go through the same process.

And would like to add I think this company does the cattle call process as they know that this will 1) get them the $ 70 for a wasted application if one is not willing to bid up (I mean this is a rental!) or 2) and allow for a process where they can collude with the owner to bid up the process. So the rental price on the ad is not what the final rental price will be. They are playing with novice renters that don’t know any better and think their application will be looked at fairly but in reality it is the highest bidder.
And as an owner & landlord for my property & renter, I am smh at the greedy landlords that will practice this sort of stuff. Has ethical standards gone out the door? These landowners must be stuck with the «greed is good» mentality of Gordon Gekko. Karma is a wonderful thing and what comes around goes around for these owners.

I found a great listing in South Pasadena this week. I was the first person to call, but that didn’t matter. They put me in a pool of 30 other applicants and emailed us all together in a public email so I could see all addresses. They asked us all to bring $ 35 for each adult who is a prospective tenant. So that’s $ 70 bucks per application. I called to ask why they needed to run 60 credit checks? Why not just choose a few people and run those? The receptionist was so rude and argumentative with me. She finally just blurted, «I’m just the receptionist!» Well, do I want to rent from people who don’t respect privacy, rip off poor parents trying to find a good home, and are rude to it’s clients? I read the other reviews here and they are all ones. It doesn’t surprise me.

Experienced extreme rudeness for just calling in to find out more about a property for rent. The lady who answered the phone sounded really annoyed I even called, and hung up on me in the middle of talking to her. What the hell is wrong with you lady? Are you just too lazy to do your job? Glad I don’t actually rent from them. It must be a nightmare for the people who do. It doesn’t surprise me other people are complaining you did the same to them.

Probably one of the worst experiences i have ever had with a company in any field.
As others have mentioned so fondly, they lack class and are extremely unprofessional. Any owner that uses them as their management company should really consider whether they are in the right field. Do not rent anything from them, no matter how nice the property is. I wish I could give them a falling star, they are horrible people all the way around.

DO NOT RENT FROM HERE!!! This place is horrible! This property management company is rude, inconsiderate of its tenets, and provides minimal quality service.

My husband and I have contacted Bryant Companies 4 times, two times for two different rentals. The first time, they hung up on us mid-​call. The second time, they put us on hold immediately for over five minutes before hanging up on us. We were taken aback by this, and thought that it boded poorly for a management company; what if we were tenants who needed immediate assistance? We decided not to pursue the property.
When another listing came up that looked good, though, I decided to give them another shot. Maybe the first time we called, they had a new hire who didn’t know how to work the phones. So I called back, and was informed that the property currently had tenants in it, but that they were showing by appointment, so they took our name and number. About two weeks passed, and I never received a call back, so I called again. The property is now vacant, and the woman who answered the phone informed me that they are showing the property in half an hour. There’s no way that I can make it to the property in half an hour — and I told her that. She said that they’d have more appointments, and took down my name and number again, although I have no confidence that I’ll actually receive a call back.
We won’t be going with them; again, if they are so unprofessional when we call to see a property, we can only imagine the treatment we would get as a tenant.
Landlords, you might not think this is a big deal, but think again. We’re great tenants — we pay on time, have great credit, and are professionals with steady jobs. We’re quiet, non-​smokers, with no pets. If we had seen the apartment and liked it, I’m sure that the landlord would have been happy with us as tenants. But because Bryant Companies is so disorganized that they lost our contact information and did not schedule an appointment when they said they would, the property has instead been vacant and unleased for at least a week. When you’re considering a management company, consider not just how they treat you, but also how they treat tenants and prospective tenants — if we feel as though we’re being treated poorly, we WILL choose not to lease the property, or leave instead of extending the lease, both of which will ultimately cost you more money.

I tried to rent a property from them first flyer they gave me had several properties on it and after view 3, 2 were misrepresented (ie. they said came with garage and didn’t). I finally found one (1bd/​1ba for $ 650) but they said it wasn’t ready. I waited a week and went back and their new flyer had it listed as a studio for the same price, but when I went to see it it was the one bedroom so I assumed it was another typo. I want back filled out the app and told them about the typo. They were extremely rude and told me I was wrong and that I was filling out the form for a studio. I said whatever take the app, run my background and have the realtor call me. I get a call a couple days later saying it was actually a 1bd/​1ba and they thought it was a studio so the actual price is now $ 800.
Run for the hills!

Poor service, rude employees, care-​nothing owners, cold blooded animals working. AVOID AVOID AVOID
Very harsh policies, drain every pennies in your pockets, hold you responsible for their lost, you pay them just to get a house/​apartment, ruin your credit history no matter what. GUARANTEED no deposit refund (that means is they find a single dust in the house, they are keeping the deposit)
Policies changes very often, they can switch on you in a matter of 1 or two days, even with a contract (PET/​NO PET, STORAGE, PARKING, etc). They spy on you everyday with a third-​party manager and nitpick on tiny violation and DEFINITELY will send you a «cure or quit» notice within a week.
THIS Business needs to shut down immediately, the US is lagging behind because of these snotty rude MADAFAKAZ.

Unfortunately, I’d have to label this company’s overall performance as incompetent.
I own a residential property that Bryant managed for a few years. All along, I tried to believe they were doing a good job for me, despite the fact that my first manager was often rude and unresponsive to me and the tenants, and the second manager seemed to lack management experience. In general, responses to tenant issues were slow and often rude. Communication between manager and tenant was poor. I felt like the company was only out to make their buck at the expense of my tenants and myself.
Space doesn’t allow me to list other problems, though there were many. If you do have a problem, forget about getting any satisfaction from talking to the owner. On the one occasion I was able speak to him personally, he was unapologetic and unhelpful. Ultimately, a botched final inspection cost me money and that was when we parted company.
Better property management companies exist in South Pasadena. Try one of them.

Rude.
Snotty.
No friggin help.
Hard to find.
Put a bigger sign up or something people and make a decision on which name you want to be known by. Ugh.
