Ristorante Buon Gusto

Excellent restaurant, enjoyed our last day in san Fransisco with family. Would highly recommend. Service was terrific. My four year old niece ate everything on her plate, we all did, we will be back.

Have eaten there many, many times, they are by far the best in the area and only one that was close to them was Guido’s that is now closed. Vincenzo is great as is his staff. I drive 30 miles to dine there. Five stars all the way. Don

The food, wine, and ambiance was traditional Italian. Loved it. I would give it more stars if not for the waiter. I was in SF on business and wanted a decent meal. So i found this place in south SF. I was by myself. I had to ask a waiter if i needed reservations bc i was not greeted by anyone and waited for about 5 minutes before i was seated. The gentleman who apeared to be the owner seated me and the waiter instantly came over with the menus (food and wine) and gave me the specials. He never came back. Ever. It was the gentleman who seated me that waited on me. I literally sat for almost 10 minutes b4 the «owner» (i think)…asked me if i was waited on. I politely said «no», but was really starting to resent this waiter. You see, he passed me approx 10 times in that 10 minutes. Is it bc im a woman? I wonder. Is it bc im short and a bit overweight? I. Wonder. Or is it bc i have short hair? I wonder. What is it about me that he ignores me? I. Wonder! Bc hes waiting on all the other tables repeatedly asking them if they need anything else, etc. im chopped liver. But the kind owner with his italian accent takes my drink order. Wine from Sicily. Nevro D’Avola (delicious!!!). Then the same kind gentleman asks me if i have placed my order. No. I say. And he takes it. i go for chxn marsala w/​minestrone suppa. Excellent suppa. He stops by and asks me how i like the suppa. Its buono? Yes? Yes! I say. What does the waiter say to me? Liked the soup, huh? Cause theres nothing left. Fn prick!!! What was he implying?. And yes he goes on to serve other tables and not me. I get my dinner delivered by sweet italian owner. Such a good dinner!!! The polenta was creamy and tasteful. The chicken perfectly cooked with a hint of grilled taste. The Marsala and mushrooms? Perfecto! My check? Comes from the prick waiter who couldnt belittle himself to actually take my order or serve my food! But hey he’ll take his tip $$.
Delicious food, wine, ambiance… if not for the waiter «larry» i would give this place 5 stars.

We came here tonight (Friday) at 8:45pm and there were a few tables. Some people had just been seated and others were enjoying dessert. They had two other tables arrive at 9:46pm and they seated them even though their posted hours say they close at 9:30pm. They likely have set hours to be able to close if they’re not busy and stay open if they have patrons which totally makes sense. It’s a very family friendly place and the staff is personable and fairly attentive. The price point is about right. For the four of us, we spent $ 156, which included tip, on Veal Marsala, three pastas, two beers, sparkling water, Arnold Palmer and tiramisu. Our entrees came with soup or salad and you get any choice of the four soups. They offer gluten free spaghetti or penne without an up charge. I loved my Tutto Mare with gluten free spaghetti and my brother thought the Linguine Bolognese was really good. There were many pieces of Seafood in my pasta and the sauce was flavorful. They make their own pasta so every thing tasted fresh. My husband liked the Veal Marsala with Polenta but thought it was on the small side though it was the right portion for him. The complimentary bread was chewy and tasty and we ended up eating two baskets full. This was definitely a great spot for a family dinner night.

Just had mussels and pasta — lot’s of garlic — very very good. Great service at the bar too from the bartender.

Was staying near airport and found this south San Fran gem. Felt like I was home in NJ Great fettuccine bolognese! Sat at the bar and owner treated me to a generous wine tasting. Great food and service.

I love it when I get immediate seating on a busy Saturday evening. Timing is everything. I could have sworn the waiter recommended a chardonnay to accompany my dinner, but he brought a red. Good for me as I do not prefer chardonnay. And apparently the Italian word for salad is Italian meatball soup. No worries, the salad was fine too. I ordered the Pasta Alia Carbonara and it was quite tasty. Great atmosphere. Fun place.

The food was excellent, seafood over pasta and linguini and clams; both very nicely done! Two tidbits for improvement… the salad was sad… iceberg lettuce on a plate with one small tomato swimming in excessive dressing… not the same care shown here. Also, the manager, a tall thin, dark complexion man harassed the waitstaff unmercifully. He may need some harassment training.

These folks were so warm and friendly and kind! I really needed a break from being a caretaker for a friend who has cancer, and they really Mew my little lunch special. The pasta was amazing, and so was the dessert! After hearing about why I’d taken myself out, the host was so kind, and he gave me a bit of port. The most amazingly good port ever. Thank you guys so much!
If I’m here long, I will surely have to come back, both for the wonderful food, and the wonderful people!

This place is a popular restaurant amongst companies in the area and came highly recommended from colleagues. I dined here recently and was very impressed by the food. There are many other menu items that intrigued me and I’d love to come back and sample it.
I ordered the house special tortellini buon gusto, which came with a side salad (even though that part wasn’t shown in the menu).
Price: $ 30+ with one appetizer and two bottles of wine for the table.
Quality: The salad wasn’t very impressive, but its not one of their signature items so that might explain it. There was really no difference from a salad you get at the grocery store and what I ate. It included yes, one small cherry tomato and one small olive. The vinagrette I think was homemade, but it didn’t really stand out to me. The great part of the meal was calamari which was crisp and light, not tasting too greasy. The tortellini I ordered came with a cream sauce that was quite thick, but helped add flavor to the overall plate. Some of my tortellini tasted too «doughy,» but I was willing to over look that.
Service: Service was prompt, attentive and engaging. No complaints.

Magic place! Best service ever, and the food is very tasty. Definitely will come back, I highly recommend this restaurant!

Was pleasantly surprised by Buon Gusto. There aren’t very many authentic Italian restaurants in the SSF area, but this is pretty comparable to ones you might find in North Beach. The interior and décor are very fitting, and even the music sets of a nice traditional Italian vibe.
For my meal, I started off with the Minestrone soup, which was delicious and really soothing. There were even large chunks of noodles and veggies in almost every bite. For my main dish, I had a difficult time choosing because the menu has tons of options. I finally decided on the Linguine and Clams in white sauce. The clams tasted so fresh, and the sauce had a nice garlicky taste. The portions are HUGE, so you might even be able to share with two people. To finish off the meal, I had the Torta Nocciola, which was so tasty! Lots of hazelnut throughout and super creamy and fluffy.
Definitely recommend as a great option if you’re looking for a nice dinner spot in South San Francisco!

This place makes my Italian heart happy. The marinara sauce is as close to the one my Italian grandma makes aka THE BEST. The waiters have worked there forever so they know us the second we walk in the door. The owners are AMAZING. They always greet our table and on occasion have given us a magic card show. so fun!
When I’m sick I get the minestrone to-​go. It’s the most perfect minestrone I’ve ever had!
The restaurant is small but we never have the need to make reservations (unless it’s a large group). We always get seated right away.
I’d say the prices aren’t ridiculously high. For excellent food, the price is beyond far!
I highly recommend this place for any Italian lovers!

Had a chance to eat this Italian restaurant again while in SFO — excellent consistency is what I like! Well managed; great bar tender… and food was well presented, well priced and of course tasted pwrfected. I will be back!

Average food, below average prices. The best thing I had here was the calamari steak but it was a whopping $ 26 (comes with a soup or a really sad house salad that literally comes with 7 romaine lettuce leaves). To give you a sense of the insane pricing, they were charging $ 11 for a glass of BERINGER white Zinfandel (this costs $ 5.99 /​bottle). I know wine markups are common but 10x?!? No one does that!!! Also tried the eggplant Parmesan and bolognese gnocchi, both of which were passable. My dad had the seafood risotto which was giant (a pro?). The ambiance is old school Italian and service was whatever.

I went there once before and had a very nice experience and recommended my guests there for their business meeting dinner. I made reservations on Open Table for 6:45pm. Confirmed and received email. My guests arrived in time and told me their experience… My guest told the greeter «I have reservations». His response «everyone has reservations». Of course my guest wondered …(in his mind Really? With Opentable?). He didn’t even verify the Open Table app when he said that! What an opening statement remark to my guests! Not a good impression to start with your patrons! Don’t think you are the only restaurant to have that type of attitude! I would have preferred you said… Let me check you in and it should be about 10 mins. Would you like a drink while you wait?

I just came to share a drink in Buon Gusto and I had a great time! The team did their best to make us to feel home. We listen to great music, talked and laughed a lot!

Came here with ten other friends for dinner. We made reservations a few days ago and got seated promptly before reservation time and without entire party being present.
Service– Waiter informed us of the specials of the night and took all of our orders correctly. Food came out in expected time and most people got their dishes around the same time so we all enjoyed food together.
Food– I ordered the Linguine with clams in white sauce, which I enjoyed. It was a brothy sauce made with olive oil and clam juice, with garlic and some red pepper flakes which gives it a pleasant kick. My fiancé ordered the Veal Piccata, which I thought was okay, nothing very special and vegetables were not particularly good. His minestrone soup I didn’t care for and my salad «looks like costco salad», my fiancé said. Fried calamari to share was average.
Ambiance– Dimly lit restaurant with background music; guests around spoke pretty loudly so at times I couldn’t hear what my friends said. Our long dining table was by the wall that had shelves so my shoulders and neck hit the shelve at times and I barely had room to put my jacket over my chair. However, I liked the fact that we were seated near the television so we got to see the first Giants vs. Cardinals game! Wuhooo!
Bill came promptly after we asked for it and I was a bit surprised that it was all handwritten– dishes plus prices and calculations. Nevertheless, they were not hesitant to help us split the remainder bill (after some friends paid cash) among three different credit cards.
Overall, I would say this is a good restaurant for big parties, but I’d probably wouldn’t drive to SSF to just eat here with my fiancé or 1 – 2 other friends.
