I used to love this place! The last few visits have been the worst. Shrimp fajitas flavorless and undercooked. In the middle of eating my meal I felt extremely nauseated and sick. I will NOT be returning!!!

I thought I would give Chimis two more chances before I update my review. No more chances. This restaurant really isn’t any good anymore. I decided on my last visit to try something other than a traditional big burrito. The waiter even insisted that I try the Chile rellenos. What a mistake that was. The chile was small to begin with, while the egg batter added no consolation to the limp pepper. The chile was then drenched with a red sauce that closely resembled their«famous» salsa. My guest went with the chicken fajitas nachos. Another big mistake. The grilled chicken that covered the nachos tasted like it had been reheated. The queso cheese that covered the nachos tasted like it came out of a can. My refried beans were soupy(again) and appeared to be heavily seasoned with chipotle powder. The Mexican rice was just ok. I think the main problem with this restaurant is that most of the food is prepared ahead of time and sits on a steam table. That being said if you visit Chimis on a slow off day chances are the food will be lame. On our previous visit the fajitas were exceptionally greasy and the refried beans soupy as always. One last thing. Has anyone ever noticed that their lunch and dinner specials are always the same. Really.

My husband and i have been loyal patrons of Chimis for years… When we go in… Arturo the manager… Takes very good care of us. My husband rides a power chair And they are very good about finding us a table out of the way so he isnt in foot traffic… We have always been treated with respect… Im not sure what has happened though in the last year… But service is bad Staff cant understand u nor u them Food has become below par And the establishment in itself is very complacent when it comes to complaints… Several nights ago I purchased a Groupon… Its an awesome deal… We went specifically to St Peters even though we live way out on the far side of Ofallon… They werent busy. Got seated right away… And Arturo took our order immediately… We ordered apps and soup… Also salad… At the same time we ordered our entrees Well instead of things coming out in order… Everything was brought out at once… Our table was overflowing… We had no space for anything… I specifically asked for no lettuce on anything… i got lettuce… I asked for no rice but extra beans… There was no rice… But also only a spoonful of beans… I asked for extra cheese… Well that didnt happen either… So i just put it down to an off night… It happens. As my husband and i started eating… i soon Became nauseous… i headed for the ladies room When i got back to our table… I told my husband that i was ill and asked Arturo to pack up our dinner… By the time we got back to Ofallon We were both quite ill… Its a good thing our home has two bathrooms… That night and for the next 48 hrs was a nightmare… I finally went to bjc st peters the next night with stomach cramps and bloating so bad… When my husband and i contacted Chimis… We were told that the owner said that he wouldnt give us our money back nor make good on anything… Hmmmmm…really…this is the way you treat ur loyal customers… Yes we had… FOODPOISONING!!! Having Mexican food in St. Peters is very hit or miss… but Chimi’s is reliable. We used a Groupon tonight and ordered steak and shrimp, XX dark, and dessert. Well, we tried to order dessert. No flan tonight. Still, it was the best steak we have had in a restaurant in months. And the shrimp are huge. Nothing was overcooked, and the portion sizes are large. The salsa is with cilantro, if that is your thing. I happen to like it. I would go back every other day if possible. It is that good.

My family and I chose this place because it was close to an event we attended and it had 4 of 5 stars on Unilocal.I regret this decision. It wasn’t horrible, but I’m sure there are better restaurants near here. The pork carnitas were dry and flavorless. The chips were stale and salsa was just ok. The guacamole also had little flavor. There are a lot of menu choices, and I think they have too many items and none of them are great. I prefer a place that has a few great items worth going back for. I did not have a beer or margarita, but I do not rate restaurants for drink items that I can get just about anywhere. The staff was friendly, but not attentive. For me this is just another Tex-Mex joint with the typical«fat is supposed to equal flavor and big portions equals good food» and that is not 4 stars for me… I like Fresh-Mex and quality ingredients.

Lived out of town for three years and couldn’t wait to get back and have Mexican food at Chimis. Went sat and had the worse food ever. Looked like it had been sitting for hours and all the food was cold. Even the plate. Such a disappointment. Guess I’ll have to look for another favorite mex restaurant.

Food was piss poor reheated tasteless covered in grease and extremely dry service besides the extreme language barrier was more subpar than fast food when it’s delivered to a window 10 minutes before closing time beer watered down as well

We have been to this location at least half a dozen times. Usually the food is above average, call it 4 out of 5 and the service is the same. Last night though was pertty bad. I had the chicken fajitas as I always do and they sucked. Chicken lukewarm and tough, obviously reheated from prior cooked. The peppers and onions were mostly the edge pieces and obviously microwaved and steaming. Beans were minimal and watery and the guac and sour cream looked as if it had sat out for a while. I had a bug fly up between me and my plate and at the time thought it was between… after reading the other review though that is a bit more in doubt. Ugh. If I wanted the full camping meal experience at least there could be a mountain or lake right there close. On the other hand great salsa and chips, but not THAT much to put up with the rest. To top it off the service was below 1 star. Like the other reviews we had Arturo. We had been sitting in a mostly empty restaurant for almost 10 minutes before he sauntered over. C’mon guy, if you are this thrilled to be employed you may as well stay home. Once the food was delivered he was as scarce as a tow truck on I70 in a snowstorm. Is this just 2 or 3 extended families that have this pkace? Put tio Arturo with his greasy looking old hippie ponytail action outside giving his Tijuana impersonation and you may have a winner… if he stuck around. I wish I had remembered about the great place in Wentzville… Los Portales we had tried in August. Won’t be back to Chimis for a while.

Have been there many times. Favorites: pitcher of margaritas, tamales, steak fajitas, la preferita, chicken chipotle, tacos al carbon, guacamole, and of course the chimichangas. Arturo, Jose, Wan, and America are always ready to please. The food and salsa are made on site, so there is a bit of variability from good to great(especially the tamales). Only once was there a shortage of staff and the service suffered. In the years we’ve been going there, we are very happy and keep returning, and returning, and returning…

Walked in and they seated us at a table next to the mops and brooms and trash. Our waiter brought our drinks and we did not see him again. Had to ask another worker for our check. Bad service. My food was not the best although my husband enjoyed his fajitas, but then it is hard to ruin fajitas. And, it was so hot in there. AC not working? Get it fixed. No excuse in this heat. We will not be back!

I’m shocked to see good reviews for this place, but they’re all old so I guess it has gone downhill. Rude, apathetic staff, mediocre salsa, warmed up food… DONOT recommend. I don’t like giving bad reviews because I always try to give people the benefit of the doubt, maybe they were just having a bad day? Not in this case, I would never, ever give them another chance, even if it were free.

I’m not sure if this place is now under new management or what, because this restaurant used to be outstanding. As of recently the food has declined and the service is AWFUL! I, myself, am a waitress so I know I can be a bit judgmental when it comes to service, but I don’t think water Refils, prebussing, or my check are asking for too much. I could go on and on about how terrible our waitress was. I’ve never came so close as to walking out on my bill before. Good margaritas though.

The salsa has heat without burning your tastebuds. The fajitas are awesome. The carne asada has flavor and is not tough and dry. Definitely will be going back!

The food was okay. Typical Mexican food, but lacked in actual flavor. The salsa was good. Service was bad. No refills. And took forever to get the check! They never came back after they dropped off the food… It came highly recommended by friends, but I’m not seeing what’s so special about it. Disappointed.

Best Authentic Mexican food in the area. Priced very reasonably. I’ve traveled all over the United States and Chimi’s is one of the best. Love this place!

I went here with a coworker of mine and a fellow Unilocaler. They have a great lunch menu reasonably priced. I got the Fajitas. With lunch specials it usually is a small portion, but here I felt it was a large portion. I left very full and very impressed with the service and price. I will go back and its a great place to bring a group of people. This place has my number one vote for Mexican food out of all the places I have been since I have been here… and I am picky about my Mexican.

You get what you pay for. I can’t bash this place too bad because it’s so cheap .I should have known better ordering a $ 12 special claiming to be a rib eye steak. The service is slow, my steak was rubbery and dry, but the salsa is actually decent. My date said her margarita was good, too. There are a ton of great places to get Mexican in St Charles. This just isn’t one of them.

Somewhere between the El Maguey monopoly and the more ‘authentic’ haunts, like Los Portales. We visited, after my daughter kept talking about how her teacher frequented this place. I’m all for good value, and figure if a teacher could swing, then it might fit my budget, too. Large. Friendly staff, who were largely Latin. Many chimichangas … duh, it’s in the name. But also, plenty of other options, including the ‘safety’ options for kids — burgers, fries, etc. I had a steak fajita chimichanga. Tasty! Not too large. Usual company of re-fried beans and rice. Rest of family had a variety of chimichangas, fajitas, and another dish that I failed to catch … Sadly, I’m admitting that I was consumed by my own entrée to the exclusion of paying attention to my companions. But, I noticed that my companions reacted similarly — all seven gave thumbs up. Similar pricing to the other Mexican-style restaurants.

Maybe it’s just blind piñata busting luck, but every time my family and I come to dine here, it’s a good time. It’s really good Mexican cuisine out here in St. Charles county. I like that typical Mexican restaurant ambience and mariachi music in the background. The salsa is seriously boss, the margaritas are plentiful and the specials are always on display. I think they are really good value. I like their signature chimi dishes… They make dishes cheesy. I’ve found allot of other Mexican places kind of cheat you out of the cheese. Not this place though. We always get the same consistent great food and smiling service. What more can you ask for?

Probably some of the best Mexican I have had other than my new Favorite in the CWE. The people are super nice and actually great you in Spanish and get this, are Mexican. :) I love the atmosphere and the food was really really great, I got the Lunch steak fajitas and there was a good amount of food, not too much not to little. The chips were good although I didn’t eat a lot as I am watching my figure. The salsa got put on everything though, it was either fresh made or is was just that good out of a jar. The steak on the fajitas was tender and juicy, and the vegetables were fresh and delicious. I think their location could be better, mainly because I have driven by at least a thousand times and had no idea they were here. I hope to be back soon!
