History

Established in 1988.

I began my career in skin care in 1988 in Studio City, Ca. I started working in full services salons, until 1999 when Ricki’s Skin Care & Waxing Studio was born. I had so many clients that deserved a nice quiet atmosphere, I knew it was time to move on. Through the years I have learned many things in my field and decided there are some treatments that yield better results then others.

I continue to take higher education courses and stay educated as to what is current in our industry

The truth is, I LOVE taking care of your skin and have had great results over the years, whether it’s doing facials, microdermabrasion, oxygen facials or the best waxing in Los Angeles. I love making people happy and will spend extra time, making sure you are completely satisfied before you leave.

I grew up in Los Angeles and I understand what women and men are looking for in terms of aesthetics. I understand how a brow should be shaped and the perfect glow and clarity we all want for our skin. I am an expert in the «dreaded brazilian waxing» (but my clients have renamed it call it «the almost painless wax) I love my job, because I get to make people happy. I can’t imagine doing anything else!

I’ve been going to Ricki for a couple of months now for both eyebrow shaping and microdermabrasion facials. She has changed my brows, my skin and my life! I went in hoping she could help fade the acne scarring that I had acquired on my cheek over the last year. She recommended the microdermabrasion facials and eventually the sensei peel to go with it. Between the treatments and using two of her products, I’ve seen beautiful results and am wearing less makeup now. She also asked if she could groom my brows — not an easy feat — and did an incredible job. I look forward to going to her salon every month.

I had an issue and I called. Ricki called me back. I missed 1 – 2 of her call during the day but she called me back. We worked it out. My face is very sensitive (proactiv makes me break out) and we think I had an allergic reaction. The reaction ended and my face looks and feels great. It is clear to me that Ricki care about her clients. If you have an issue call. You don’t have to yell or pull teeth — she will take care of you. And your face will be the better for it.

I went in for a lash lift and to get my eyebrows done. What a gift for any woman to do for themselves, especially with Ricki at her studio. My lashes look amazing, I don’t have to wear mascara ever, but it looks like I do. My eyebrows look amazing, as well. She shaped them beautifully. Ricki has been doing this for 25 years and she knows what she is doing! Her studio is shabby chic, which is beautiful and very very clean. Ricki and her staff are extremely professional and knowledgeable. I can’t wait to try everything on the beauty menu…

I came here cause of the Unilocal reviews and the fact that I can walk here in 5 minutes from my house. I had a Brazilian wax today for the first time in like 1.5 years and they set me up with Tricia. She was super good about making me feel comfortable and I am NOT the easiest person to do a Brazilian on! She also did the breathing technique that helps sooo much with the pain, which I really needed. Not gonna lie, it was still super painful, but so worth it in the end! In addition she hooked me up with a mini fan when I started sweating like a crazy person with anxiety. I booked another appointment and recommend to anyone else looking for a Brazilian!

I’ve been here twice and both times I saw Stephanie.
The studio is nice, clean and quiet. They use hard wax, which is so much less painful than soft wax or threading. They also do not double dip.
Stephanie is friendly, gentle and meticulous.
The prices are also very reasonable and it’s easy to schedule appointments online.

I’ve been seeing Ricki for about 5 months now and can say that my skin is the best it has ever been. The microdermabrasion and sensei peel is gentle on my skin, but also gives me results. She is the first person who has given me a facial where I don’t break out afterwards. That is what always discouraged me from getting them in the first place. Ricki promised that I would not break out and she is true to her word.
Also, Ricki is delightful to have as a skin partner. She’s loves her business and what she does — and you can tell.

I absolutely love RICKI! I can’t say enough good thing about her and the work she does.
She isn’t the first person I’ve been to for my eyelash curl. I’ve been to a few places in Pasadena. One girl (NOT RICKI) for more than 2 years but then as she got busy she started getting. lazy? She burned my eyelids and I was so traumatized I couldn’t get my eyelashes curled for a year.
1 year after that incident. I moved to the Valley and really wanted to get my eyelashes done again. I missed it so much. After quite a lengthy search, I found Ricki.
First time there she talked to me to find out what I wanted and confirm my wishes and outlook. She also calmed me down and reassured me that my previous bad experience was definitely not normal and that I would have a better perspective after trying Ricki.
Oh boy was she right.
I feel at ease when I go to her studio now and can’t say enough good things about her work.
Her studio is clean and all the girls are nice. Ricki is a sweetheart and I love speaking to her. One thing I absolutely love is that, I never feel rushed. Love it.
My eyelashes love her and every time I get them done, people compliment me.
Also puts a smile on my face when I hear people asking me where I got my extensions, and I reply that it’s all natural!
I won’t be going anywhere else as long as Ricki is in town! :)

Had my first Brazilian wax today and I have nothing but wonderful things to say about this spa.
1. Maddie was PHENOMENAL. Why? She knows what she’s doing. She’ll take care of you. She’ll make you feel relaxed and comfortable.
2. It was painful, but not as bad as I imagined. Again, she knows what she’s doing.
3. They are super clean and do not reuse strips or wax sticks.
4. This place had a super relaxing atmosphere and it was absolutely adorable with its Tiffany blue walls.
Definitely go here if you’re in need of a new spa. You will not be disappointed.

The best thing about this place is that they always have someone to answer the phone, and they usually have an appointment right away-​ish. The worst thing about this place is that both times I have been here, I left needing some pretty extensive tweezing afterwards. Additionally, I received a private message from Ricki Criswell following my first review, in which she offered me a discount every time I come for a wax, to offset the extra cost of not going to the waxer I was going to before, (who by the way never leaves a stray hair,) and when I went in the second time, that message was nowhere to be found… I guess she changed her mind… AKA went back on her word.
In short: Too expensive, doesn’t even do a good job, but if you are desperate they can probably get you an appointment right away.

Found Ricki Criswell studio on Unilocal and made a last minute appointment. The girl who took care of me was Natalie and she was absolutely amazing. I have had facials before but this was the first time that I really, really felt pampered.
Natalie told me that the next time I am down there she can wax my eyebrows. I can’t wait!

Ricki is absolutely amazing!!! I was on vacation in LA last year when I came to Ricki Criswells Salon for the first time. She offers a bunch of different treatments and I wasn’t sure which one would be the right for my skin so I asked Ricki if she could choose for me and she did a perfect job! The treatment was so pleasant and relaxing and my skin looked so good after it!
And Ricki, well, she is just adorable. She is a lovely and heartwarming person. Although it was my first time at her Salon everything felt so familiar and welcoming.
My fiancée had an Eyelash tint and perm with Jasmine: Oh! My! Gosh! I know her for 10 years now but I couldn’t stop starring in her eyes!
I am back in LA this year and of course I am back for another facial treatment at Rickis Salon. This time I added a Sugaring with Ana aswell and I wonder why I ever did such things as cold or warm waxing.

I was referred to Ricki by a co-​worker who’d been going to her for years and has the most luminous skin. One thing to know about Ricki is that she is someone who is absolutely passionate about what she does. Every time you see her, her goal is to give you the best experience and result she can.
I decided to start getting facials because the over-​the-​counter/​at-​home products just weren’t giving significant enough results on my quest for turning back the clock a smidge so I wanted to go the next step and see if I could get better results with regular facials. When I was growing up, getting your nails done was for special occasions, not the weekly occurrence the mani/​pedi is now so it’s a lot for me to spend money on something like this and I’d only continue to do it if I got significant enough results. With Ricki, I feel like I’ve gotten phenomenal results!
I started off with the deep pore cleansing facial with massage which were wonderful. Because I felt my skin was just generally dull (not particularly wrinkly but some of those pesky fine lines and maybe not the best tone but not awful either) I’ve since moved onto mircrodermabrasion and the sensi peel on a regular basis and have had excellent results. The skin plumps up a bit, you get a more dewy complexion and fine lines are lessened. I usually experience some peeling about 3 days post-​facial and after that — VOILA! And while I’m generally wary of someone’s ‘own’ line of products, I’ve found her products totally help maintain the results until your next appointment (I’m a huge fan of her Vitamin C Serum, her new Noni oil and the Vitamin Hydrating Crème). I’ve also splurged on the oxygen facial — just once so far but I definitely will again.
Ricki keeps her menu of options limited to the procedures she finds works the best and they’re options that can be combined and customized for each client. Ricki is the loveliest woman and the best walking advertisement for her business because she looks fantastic!
For me, I get these facials because I want to improve the look of my skin but without the evasiveness of injectables or surgery. Ricki’s facials don’t maintain the status quo, they will take years off and make you feel & look great!

I go to the Bellacures nail salon a few doors down, and always see a lot of people going into Ricki’s studio when I’m there. I was tired of paying a ridiculous amount of money for my brows, and having to travel too far. I have been looking for a new place.
On a whim, I looked Ricki up on Unilocal and saw all of her glowing reviews and decided to try her. OMG! I’m hooked! Ricki is a delightful, sweet woman who knows her stuff. I showed her photos of my dream brows, and she suggested how we can get there.
I had her tint them to hide the grey and add some definition that I was missing, and she meticulously shaped them until I was 100% satisfied. She has a VERY good eye for what looks great, and I felt like I was talking to a friend the entire time.
Her prices for this area are insanely low — unless you are torturing yourself getting them done in the back of a nail salon for $ 9. (Please don’t do that. I beg you!)
Ricki is super clean, doesn’t double dip, and my total for tint & wax ($ 55) was less than what I pay for waxing alone elsewhere.
I will absolutely go back to see her for my brows, and plan to see her for a facial this summer. Finally! Someone you can trust in the Valley for waxing services!
