Ruggles Green | Sugar Land

I’m giving this a 5 star just on the overall experience. I came in by myself for dinner, was greeted warmly and explained how the place worked with ordering at the counter and choosing your own seating. I opted to look the menu over at the bar while I had a drink. I’m going to be honest, the young lady bartending made the experience really delightful. She made a great wine suggestion, and offered to take my food order so I wouldn’t have to go up to the counter and order it myself. I had the Roasted Tomato Basil soup and, upon the bartenders recommendation, the Ruggles Green Goat Cheese Salad with chicken. I only have one complaint, the soup could have had a more robust tomato flavor but the fresh chunk of mozzarella totally made up for it. The salad was amazing, I will probably have dreams about it. It was fresh, flavorful, and they weren’t chintzy with the goat cheese. And it all came out so fast, like six or seven minutes after I ordered it. Next time I’m in this area I will be coming back!

This place caters to the healthy, and the atmosphere has a very rustic casual feel to it. The cashier was very friendly with us explaining things and helping us understand certain things we didn’t understand. The menu has many different options to choose from many seemed good but I settled with the grilled salmon pasta and my friend got the salmon salad. We paid at the counter and they gave us a number to bring to our table while we self serve our drinks and waited on our food. The pasta was pretty tasty as well as the salmon, would I say it was the best? Probably not but it was still pretty good to eat. We enjoyed our meal and would definitely come here again as they have many different variety of foods to try from.

Ruggles is always a great choice to take friends and out of towners for a menu that can please anyone. I really like the fish tacos, but the pizzas are also pretty good. Just depends on what you feel like. For sides, I do enjoy their sweet potato fries. They are nice and crispy and seasoned well. I’ve also tried their butternut squash which at first sight looks like baby food and is pretty aromatic, but it tastes great. I think they use a lot is spices (maybe some cinnamon) that adds to the aroma, but it is good so definitely worth a try! I ate all mine!
Right now, they have happy hour from 4 – 7 with various drink and food specialties. I know on Tuesdays, it’s $ 6 for 2 fish tacos and $ 4 margaritas.
Recently, they did open a full bar so you can go there and drink a beer and watch the game. Not sure how the drinks are, but it is an option!

Never disappointed with the food they serve here. It was really delicious! They have a variety of vegetarian options, as well as gluten free dishes which was nice to see. All their items are made of organic ingredients, which makes this experience fresher! It is get a tad expensive, but I think it’s worth it. Their salad and meat dishes are flavorful though their soup can be a bit of the saltier side.
This is also a counter service establishment, though I’ve heard their are servers at this establishment. It didn’t seem like that when I visited, but they may be because I came during Christmas Eve. Will update review if I see that the service system has changed.
Regardless, this is a great place to eat if you don’t want something with a heavy texture/​flavor. Definitely a must try if you haven’t.

like the other reviewer said, what happened here? you added a bar and servers now? i liked the food and self-​serve/​order idea before. if you want to go full service, then go all the way. my waiter took lots of eye contact before he came to me. i had to ask for items missing from the table (extra set plates/​silverware). took forever to take our order and forever to get our food and after that when there was hardly anyone dining, and then no acknowledgement whatsoever after we get the food.
if i have to get up to get my napkins and hot sauce and go to the gaddamn counter to then pay for my damn food why the hell would i need to pay you tip?
the pizza was super mushy this time too. what’s going on? is this happening at ALL ruggles green now?

What’s with the new table service?!
This used to be one of my favorite establishments to visit for some delicious organic food. Now I feel burdened to tip the «waitress» for about the same amount of service I’d receive before they changed their concept, not to mention, wait even longer for our food to arrive. The entire time, our waitress rarely made an appearance except to hand us our food and drinks.
I ordered the Honey Fried Goat Cheese & Arugula and the All Natural Beef Burger with a side of sweet potato fries.
The fried cheese was nice and sweet which paired really well with the peppery taste of the arugula. The burger is my go-​to. It’s a classic burger, you really can’t go wrong. Their sweet potato fries are delicious! A must get.
Since the remodel. the burger is way smaller than before. Before it would take up half the plate it was served on, but now, it’s about the size of a Spicy Chicken Sandwich from McDonald’s. They also got rid of their Grilled Chicken Sandwich! What! Preposterous.
Get rid of the table service. Completely unnecessary. And give us back our Chicken Sandwich.

I don’t know what happened to this place. The food used to be great! Just had a pasta dish with chicken and it tasted old. I told the manager and they said thanks for letting us know. I didn’t eat it. No apology. Waste of $ 20. Oh well. There’s not a soul in this place anymore.

I am a fan of this place, but what happened to this place? It used to be order at the counter all opening hours. I came in last week after a few months break from the place and now at 4p.m. it’s table service. Just a shock and something I really didn’t care for at Ruggles Green, not that our server was bad, but I just didn’t expect or see the use for it at Ruggles. I am just not used to coming into Ruggles waiting for a hostess, waiting to get seated, and just being waited on or waiting to get waited on.
Now that I’m done venting about that and probably seem difficult to some people, let’s move on!
Did you know they added a bar? Also, the fish tacos (my favorite entrée here) and veggie burger are amazing! The sides and pizza are good as well. Oh and the desserts are to die for, seriously– sweet. The prices can be looked at as good or expensive depending on what you are factoring in, the kids menu is definitely fair. Honestly, aside from my husband, everyone who has came with me to this place enjoys the food and environment. And my favorite staff here are literally the food runners and those cleaning the tables. They look like they work hard and try to please you if you request something. Although, mainly everyone I interact with is kind. I would go again and again, probably before 4 pm now though until I can get over this revamped situation.

I ate a delicious salad with mixed greens, sundried tomatoes, toasted almonds, feta, and a creamy dressing. It was a big portion! I also had a cup of the veggie quinoa minestrone. I love this soup. I will come here just for this soup! Clean place, plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, friendly staff, and better quality food than any «traditional American» restaurant or café.

Came here a billion times with different people and each experience was splendid!
I’ve tried various items from the menu, but my favorites are the Shrimp Tacos, Chicken Sandwich, sweet potato fries and bread pudding! The portions are big and filling, but refreshing so you won’t feel too guilty!
Staff have always been friendly and I love the ambience during the day and evening! Check it out!

I went to Ruggles Green for lunch and found it to be expensive and completely underwhelming.
I wanted a bacon cheeseburger with some avocado on it and it ended up costing me $ 22.
I mean, the food was alright, but I really feel like this place is charging more for the idea of being «healthy» more than the taste of the food. The look to be catering to the people who want to be free of whatever the latest health obsession is. They have «gluten free» spattered all over the walls and «all natural» everywhere, so I’m don’t think their focus is going to be taste and value.
That being said, I’d skip it if asked to go back.

i’m not a vegatarian, but i’ll play one on tv.
So a vegan friend came to town (siiiiiiiiiigh, Austinites…) and i wanted to feed her more than just HEB hummus, so i found this place. Ruggles was inviting, tho trying to find parking in town center on a friday night was hellish. Once we did we were greeted with a curbside sign that said they had vallet! Say whaaaaa!!! They sign was there, but there was no sign of anyone in charge or giving this service so, whateves. We had parked in the garage and hoofed it. I never saw any vallet outside the resturant the entire time we ordered, ate and then chilled before we left. Don’t want to call bs on this service, but i certainly wouldn’t count on it.
The menu is extensive and there are selections for meat eaters, vegatarians and vegans alike. I chose a philly cheese steake pannini and my vegan friend had a veggie wrap. We were both very happy with our choices. Ruggles is definately serious about their veggie choices. Plus with friendo being vegan — she was super happy with the selections and then her choice. Another plus was some sort of app you could download to get a free dessert. We did and ordered our free huge desserts. She was able to choose a VEGAN chocolate cake. I really hadn’t considered that you don’t get to have a chocolate or dessert option of any sort really very often at a resturant. She was insanely happy. Like, 4 year old eating chocolate cake happy! I had a bite and even i thought it was good! I mean nothing like my chocolate cake good, but i can have chocolate cake anytime… lol. It was nice to see that i had made an Austin Vegan happy with my choice of resturants in little olé Sugar Land.
Ruggles serves super fresh yummy food for all types of eaters in a pretty space. There’s even a patio for outdoor dining when it’s not a zillion degrees! They have wine and beer and great desserts! You won’t be disappointed!

I came back during the weeknight with a different friend and we decided to sit on the patio out back. Very large and nice. They even have ceiling fans and large portable fans to help with the heat, luckily it wasn’t hot. I had the turkey burger– I requested bunless with a side of quinoa salad instead of fries. It was a great dinner. The salad had bits of cranberry bell peppers and cilantro. The pickles were sweet and sour. The turkey party was juicy and covered with fresh melted mozzarella. Service was very quick. My friend had the turkey lettuce wrap and corn chowder. I tasted her corn chowder. So freakin good! So far I’m loving this place! So healthy & yummy!

AMBIANCE:
— The ambiance of Ruggles Green plays hard on the green and healthy movements. Even their sign had plants in it! My mother and I enjoyed a long talk on the couch out front and were very comfortable.
— The only downside to the outside area is that it is noisy with the Highway 6 traffic.
— The back patio looked nice and we may sit there next time.
FOOD:
— My mother and I were not very hungry so we shared a All-​Natural Roasted Chicken Pizza ($ 13.19) which was actually very filling. This pizza has roasted chicken, caramelized onions, roasted garlic, crème fraiche, kalamata olives, sun-​dried tomatoes, basil, jalapeños, mozzarella and fontina cheeses. There were not nearly enough sun-​dried tomatoes and way too much onions so we picked off some onions and asked for more tomoatoes and TA DA! Perfection!
— I had signed up for their complementary dessert on the Thanx app but we decided we couldn’t fit that in so I have a lovely reason to go back!
— You order up front and pay for your meal at the same time. They bring it to you when it’s done.
— The drinks are self serve at a separate drink station.
SERVICE:
–The customer service provided by all of the staff is wonderful. Everyone was happy and happy to see you.

Ummm… not really impressed.
Aesthetics are nice, service was okay, food was so so. I ordered veggie tacos and the were pretty flavorless. As a vegetarian I’m not really impressed and I don’t get the hype.

Ruggles I don’t mean to let you down, but our service was crap the other day.
Forgot one of our orders, the eggs were cooked the wrong way on one of the sandwiches and forgot my mango ranch and ate my entire fries before you remembered to bring it to me.
However my pork panini was still amazing and my potato fries were some of the best I ever had, your interior and organic teas are amazing and make me want to turn into a tree. I brought you new customers as well to enjoy you in the future and turned more people into Rugglefans, and I can not wait till the Heights location moves into the next door building! Stoked!
I need that pork pan now. nomnomnomnom

My go to spot for Ruggles, even some of the staff know me here. The patio is great on a nice weather day. They also have heaters outside so even if it’s cold, you can still dine outside! Kids are welcome, they have a nice area outside where kids can run around. Drinks are a serve yourself kind of situation. You order upfront then find your own seat. They also have complementary condiments by the drink area.
I always try something new every time I go to Ruggles. So far, my favorite dish is the grilled chicken sandwich with fries.
I would definitely recommend this place to anyone in the Sugar Land area who’s looking for a casual place to either eat lunch/​dinner.

Great salads. Pizza cooked in a wood fires oven. Burgers at good. That have something for everyone.

Each time I come here I love it, from the friendly staff to the yummy food.
Last time we came here for lunch there were several of us. My friends had walked up to the counter to order without realizing we weren’t behind them. Another large group of ladies came in and jumped in line. The guy at the counter waved us up knowing we were with the other ladies that had just ordered. Kuddos to ensure we got our food at the same time.
They have decent wine by the glass and I’ve never had trouble finding a clean table. I love they have an outdoor covered patio as well. Favorite food item so far: fish tacos, kale salad, nut burger and sweet pot fries. I think this is a great place to grab food. Plus their ‘green’ so I love em even more. Keep up the yummy work!
So if you’re looking for fast, order at the counter, no hassle food — give this place a try!

I would go to Ruggles Green for its quality burgers, salads and of course, the amazing desserts! Last night i went in with a few friends for dinner and loved my all-​natural beef burger w/​Swiss cheese, with sweet potato fries. The burger patty was flavorful and done just right @ Medium. The Atlantic Salmon Salad and Fish Tacos looked good as well. Well worth my recommendation would be the super scrumptious Tomato Bisque. Seriously, it was the best tomato bisque ever! I loved the cheese melted at the bottom of the soup!
However, the boyfriend’s Ahi Tuna Steak was bland and had a weird acid taste (probably resulted from the salsa on top), and the mashed potato was not creamy at all and again was bland. Service was pretty much self-​serve, and prices were reasonable except for the Ahi Tuna Steak for twenty some dollars, which was a little over-​priced for the mediocre quality and taste. For desserts, the crème brûlée and white chocolate bread pudding were excellent.
In brief, everything was good, but no Ahi Tuna next time.
