R A Air Conditioning

We were referred to this company by an independent plumber who used to work there. The job was to replace a valve which had begun to leak in an HVAC unit. According to the building engineer the replacement should have taken no more than 20 minutes; a half-​hour at the most. The building engineer was not allowed by his company to replace these valves for condo owners due to liability issues, so we called R.A. Air. Albert, from R. A. Air, took 2 ½ hours to replace the valve, $ 312.50. He disconnected and reconnected pipes which had nothing to do with the valve replacement. When asked he lamely justified what he did. I hope you have been prudent enough to review these ratings on Unilocal before you hire R. A. Air instead of after as we did, based on a bad recommendation.

Worst experience I have had with a services company in memory. After trying to deal with RA Air Conditioning to have a repair done on our HVAC system, after 2 weeks of being jerked around I fired them yesterday. Even their front office scheduler is untrustworthy. After committing to an appointment that she called me to book, she denied making the commitment when the tech was a no-​show. Run, don’t walk to the nearest exit. Find any other HVAC company… any!

Very disappointed When I had an emergency it took them three days of waiting in 90 degrees heat. Have been a loyal customer for fifteen years

R&A installed a heating/​air conditioning unit. The installation went well but we noticed when the air went on, the house lights dimmed and the unit made a terrible noise. Since July of this year, we have called R&A 12 times. Lauren and others assure me that Roger will call back, but he has only called back one time and did not follow up when he said he would. The warranty is still good on this unit, so it’s not as if they would have to spend any $$. There is no after-​sale service with this company. We would never use them again.

I only wish there was a minus one hundred rating. From start to finish working with this company was a nightmare!!! First of all, they put my return and thermostat in front of the entrance to my apartment which should have never been done as there is no air flow between the return and and vents. Furthermore, the thermostat was measuring the temperature of the air outside of my apartment. As such, nothing that they installed worked. Before starting I was assured by the owner of the company that there would be no chemical or greasy smells as I am very chemically sensitive. However, when I turned on the air, the crappy smelly air that came out made me so sick that I had to move out! I am sure there are also a lot of leaks in the ducts because I have asthma and am allergic to dust and mold and this would partially explain why the air made me so sick as well as the greasy chemical smells from the cheap materials used. They also used fiberglass insulation in the unit itself, which is very aggravating to lungs, especially those with asthma. It should never have been used. If that wasn’t bad enough, not only did they fail to put drop cloths over my carpeting before cutting holes in the ceiling, but after I complained, they brought in some used, filthy ones and covered my things with dusty filthy cloths. Gee guys, thanks! Even after having my apartment professionally cleaned and the carpets steam cleaned, the air was so bad from whatever was in the ceiling or attic that had seeped into my carpet that, as I said I had to move out. I had to move into a tiny studio apartment because not only did I loose all of the money from the botched job… I had to pay for new floors. I also now have to worry about fixing or getting new heating and air units because I had removed my ac and heating units after the hvac system came in, naively thinking I was all set. Good grief!

The first time I used this company to install replacement systems at my home (about 5 years ago), the price, installation, service was as expected. I just needed to have my ducts (exposed on the roof) resealed. I received a quote from Roger for $ 550. I questioned the amount and he said that it would take two men a half day to complete the job plus materials (That’s 8 man-​hours). Imagine my surprise when the job was completed by one man in about 1.5 hours with help from a second man for about .75 hours for a total of 2.25 man-​hours. I complained to Roger that he had over-​estimated the time for my job and he said that he would look in to it. When I got the bill, he had made a reduction of $ 50 so I owed $ 500 for 2.25 man-​hours plus a negligible amount of materials. I paid the bill with a note of my displeasure, and someone called me to ask what was the problem, I told her that I had been ripped off and I will no longer use their company again, nor would I refer anyone else (my neighbor used them at my suggestion). I was offered a «free» maintenance call but I declined. She said that she would talk to Roger about my complaint, but never called me again. Beware of this company!

lady who answers the phone is rude as HE**. she needs to find a new job that does not involve customer service! horrible and on top of that they dont take credit cards or financing. will not be going with them!

Run… don’t walk. I had a horrible experience with RA Air Conditioning. The owner Roger totally over-​promised and under-​delivered. He provided me an estimate of 3 days for an HVAC installation job, when it actually took 9 days.
I have 2 young kids and we were left without heat for a week and a half in the winter. I called him on his cell phone each day as the job delays continued. I left messages each time asking him to return my call. He never returned one call.
I also called the office each day asking his office to tell him I was trying to reach him. He never called me. The one time he picked up his cell phone, he actually hung up on me and told me he couldn’t talk. Are you kidding me? This is how he treats his clients? I was stunned.
I am giving RA Air Conditioning 1-​star so Unilocalers know I proactively clicked on a star. Sometimes people forget to click on a star at all so you’re not sure whether the business deserved 0-​stars or 5-​stars. If the Unilocal scale allowed for negative stars, I would have taken full advantage of that.
Trust me, choose another company for your HVAC needs.

Rogers, the owner, would promise you the world trying to get your business but will not deliver. I paid them $ 8k to install a Bryant brand central a/​c using some existing furnace ducts in addition to some new ducts being added. The installation was somewhat sloppy, ducts were leaking (found out by a city-​required independent testing company), vent covers didn’t fit, holes were cut too big, cut up my floors because they ASSUMED I was going to replace them. The list can go on and on. Last but not least, Rogers will NOT answer your calls if he knows there’s a problem… Sherry, his secretary, will take your messages and no return calls will be given. I say there must be better companies out there that can install a central ac unit without the drama.

I live on the Westside, where everything is overpriced, so I made use of this great company based in the valley.
Needed a new Heater/​AC unit for my condo, being that the unit I had was original (about 25 years old) and had died. This company had installed my mother’s system years ago. Not only was/​is she happy with the work, but I’d experienced that system countless times at her house before mine was installed.
I had one other detailed quote, for about $ 2,000 higher, and two rough estimates also in that range or even more.
One of the estimates I got, the guy made a big deal about having to hire a crane to remove the old unit from the roof and lift the new one. Need a special permit, don’t know how the crane will be positioned, could be tricky, blah blah blah. R&A didn’t even MENTION the crane to me, because to them it’s routine.
These friendly guys showed up on time, for the estimate and for the install, and didn’t ask for any money up front. They worked neatly and cleanly, and I paid them at the end of the day.
Phone calls not returned in a timely manner, so deducting a star. Other than that, I recommend.
