Residence Inn Virginia Beach Oceanfront

Stayed 05÷24÷16, Great corner room with ocean view my service dog and I enjoyed very much. The floor to ceiling windows in bedroom and living area were perfect for watching the sunrise and the moon over the ocean. Could see King Neptune statue from my room & all the way up and down boardwalk in both directions. Had a nice room by the exit to take my service dog out for a walk and didn’t have to use elevator every time. This hotel wins Top Place for towels displayed the best out of Marriot Hotels in the area. The AC unit is loud and leaks water running on the porch. Parking is very bad. I was able to find a parking space in front of the hotel. I couldn’t move my car to go anywhere! I was blocked in most of the time by other cars. Handicap people can not have their car parked blocks away, staying with a service dog.

Stayed here for the Memorial Day weekend not knowing it was pet friendly «which was ok» you can’t tell because the hotel is very clean and well kept! Our view of the beach was fantastic 10^th floor. The staff was very knowledgeable and helpful. Breakfast was free and wifi is free. If you travel with a pet and or want to take tour pet… I highly suggest this Hotel. Located on 33^rd street next to Catch 31… BTW the rooms were very clean and housekeeping responsive to your requests «we usually have a lot»

Checked into my room tonight. View is nice. And that’s where the good things stop. My room smells terrible. I think it’s mildew/​mold but not sure. The sofa cushions are terribly dirty as well. Only here for two nights but not sure I will make it past tonight due to the smell and my allergies.

I wouldn’t stay in this hotel again if they paid me.
The CONS:
GARBAGE IN ROOM:
There was a partially used water bottle on the night stand; under the bed was strewn with used earplugs and Q-​tips, and receipts from a Walmart from two weeks earlier. The bonus: the toenail. Also hair in the bathroom. No vacuum has gone near those beds in weeks. So much mold under the soap dish in the shower.
THE SMELL:
The corridors and rooms smelled of cigarette smoke and mildew. It more or less smells like a dirty frat house. When the air came on in our room, the mildew/​mold smell increased and we had trouble breathing.
HOLES:
Actual large holes in the bedding, broken patio pavers on balcony.
NOISE:
The first night was the sound of the bed getting slammed from the other side of the wall as well as every sound heard from the relations the neighbors seemed to be having next door. Followed by the two dogs howling from the other wall the following day.
GENERAL STATE OF ROOM:
Wainscoting edges peeling from walls; no toilet paper; tons of stains on the bedding and couch cushions. No vacuuming under sleeper couch; sleeper mattress filthy. The patio chairs were so covered in bird poo that we couldn’t use them. To get the better (actually usable) wi-​fi you have to pay for the upgrade.
After the first of two nights, I went down to the desk to complain about the dog howling. The staff told me they’d had problems with those people before, which made me wonder why they were still allowed to stay. I told them I wanted to switch hotels (which in retrospect we should have), but they convinced me to try another room. They moved us to a larger, accessible room at no charge. I told them that the bed without the wood box under it in our first room had tons of garbage under it, and they agreed that yes, some of their beds didn’t have the wood box. Which was strange, since that wasn’t really the point I wanted to make. The second room had the same issue, different trash. (Rooms 303 and then 203). The smell in the new corridor and room was worse than the first. There was no toilet paper in the new room, and no extra stocked. I had to call for it. The phone in the living area was not labeled, so I decided to use the labeled one next to the toilet in the bathroom. It was labeled, but dead. Heaven help the disabled person in the accessible room who needed assistance – not going to happen. The next morning we couldn’t wait to get out of there and got out as fast as possible. My skin still crawls when I remember the experience. Stay anywhere else, please don’t make our mistake.
I’ll give two stars for:
The view, the parking, and the staff, who seem to want to do a better job but seem to have not much control over things.

It’s a shame to have thieves working for this place! Very poor Manager whom does not take care of his customer’s.

Stayed here for one month maid service was horrible some days they came some days they didn’t. They would drop off towels and forget everything else including cleaning or kitchen supplies. Neither one of my tvs worked when I checked in and my closet was broken. The worst part is I had the hotel and I was away for a week when $ 400 worth of Christmas presents were stolen from my room. I am the only person with a key who is a non employee. I was told that pretty much nothing was going to happen. The manager said it seemed fishy and was not talking about his the hotel or staff. I will not stay there or recommend this hotel to anyone else. Keep in mind I stay in a lot of hotels. 1^st and last time staying at this joke. I am also a Marriott Rewards Member.

22 Dec 2015 — Outstanding place to stay on the beach during the holiday — the beach light display is one of the best in America on a beach. The Staff (Dean) was amazing. He made great recommendations on where to eat and was genuinely pleasant. He pushed the stay over the top. Thank you to the staff we will return when back in the area. The room was perfect size and the balcony was awesome — views only of the beach. Everything was convenient to this Marriott. Looking forward to visiting in the summer.

Bottom Line Up Front: This hotel is unworthy to bear the Marriott name.
To start with, their website should indicate that on site parking is «LIMITED,» which is NOT in keeping with John Willard’s vision of providing «bigger and better»… When I arrived, on Wednesday, November 25, 2015, I was shocked to see that the parking lots/​terraces at the hotels on either side of it dwarfed the Marriott’s. After driving through the parking lot without finding a single parking spot, I drove around looking for street parking. Finally, I returned to the Marriott parking lot, and let my wife take the wheel while I went inside to check in, in case she needed to move it to let someone out of a parking spot.
Secondly, I should not have had to check in. That morning I received an e-​mail offer to enter a million dollar raffle by installing the Marriott Mobile App and using it to check in. Long story short, the app didn’t work AT ALL! I’m embarrassed that I wasted my time downloading it and attempting to use it about a dozen times that afternoon.
Checking in took so long, that, while I was doing so, a valet approached my wife and somehow rubbed her the wrong way.
After checking in and being told I could either let the valet park my car or park myself four blocks away, I returned to my car to discover that my wife was so livid because of her encounter with the valet, that I could not persuade her to walk past him to enter the hotel and get to our room.
Therefore, I parked the car at their parking terrace four blocks away, and walked back to ask for a refund. At a Marriott, I would have expected an apology and a full refund, especially since we never entered the room, and this could be verified via the computerized key system. However, I was told that I could check out, but the room charge for the night would remain on my credit card.
It is unlikely that I or my wife will ever stay at another Marriott.
UPDATE: Marriott removed their charges to my credit card by Sunday, November 19, 2015, and one of their representatives e-​mailed me an apology the next day, so I’m changing my rating from one to two stars.

Booked the Penthouse suite. When I’m telling you this was the size of an a decently sized apartment, it was. — For an attractive price. Smaller sized (not too small) balcony, two bedrooms in a different room, full sized living room, small-​er dining room table with a full kitchen. 2 Big flat screen tv’s in each room. Large area between bathroom and bed (s) good for getting ready with two sinks and a gorgeous view of the beach/​oceanfront. Full breakfast buffet, a few necessary piece of gym equipment in the gym, a hot tub and bigger indoor pool. Definitely did not want to leave, was an inch close to booking an additional night.

The two stars are solely for the staff and the location, otherwise the facility itself would be zero stars.
We booked two rooms which were supposed to be connected, or at the very least adjoining. Not even close. One room was on floor 2 and the other was on floor 8. While we appreciated the larger balcony on the 2^nd floor, it appears to be a nightly ritual for people in the rooms above us to throw things down onto the balcony, including beer on our kids. The 8^th floor balcony was rendered unusable because the hot air venting from the room blows into your face.
None of the phones in the rooms worked… eventually one phone in one room was replaced, but the other room had nothing. I heard other people staying at the hotel talking about their phones not working either. Probably not bad for the hotel since this way we have to walk down to the front desk every time something goes awry.
The laundry machine was consistently out of soap (not to mention $ 4/​load is a bit steep) and the dryer was missing a button.
The stairways smelled bad. Not sure what causes that.
The beds hurt our backs every single night.
We would up leaving a day early — it wasn’t worth it to stay the entire time; we wanted to be back with the comforts of home. That says a LOT about a vacation here. On the bright side, the staff we spoke with were ALL friendly, professional, courteous and seemed to care about things not going well. It is unfortunate that the hotel itself is not in better condition.
Breakfast being included was great. The selection was decent (not just continental like most places). It is fantastic that you can bring your dog, although the back area for them to pee in is pretty small.
Won’t be back.

We have stayed at this Marriott Residence Inn several times through all seasons. It is top notch. The Front Desk Manager, Dwenda Mosley, and Cindy Pembrook, only add more positives to your stay. It is an Oceanside hotel, it has a great balcony, room decent size, it takes pets, handicap wheelchair accessible room a plus, more than adequate breakfast, light diners, everything to make your stay enjoyable. Although it can appear pricey, you get what you pay for and if you call on the Managers, they mean it when they say they are there to help you. My rating A+.

All rooms faces the ocean with a small balcony. The bedroom window face the ocean and also the living room. We request room to be ready by 1pm and they did a great job in meeting the request. They were also very accommodating by allowing us to check out late.
Service is outstanding with very friendly staff.
The stay includes breakfast buffet and wifi. The only complaint I have is the eating area. It is small but people do cycle in and out.
Hotel is situated right across the beach so you can walk to the beach anytime you want. Family and kids enjoyed the stay.

Will be making this our summer vacation spot to stay!

I’ve now stayed at all five of the Marriott properties along the oceanfront (SpringHill, Fairfield, both Courtyards) and I’d have to say that the Residence is my least favorite. Not that it’s bad, just that there’s better. There were a few deficiencies and a few pluses that leave me with a three star «A-​OK» rating.
Negatives
Noise was a problem. On the 12^th floor from 8AM to 10AM it was slamming door after
slamming door. Y’all need to replace the hinges with slow close ones. Yes, the one where the room cleaning staff store their cart. BLAM!
One night, we heard a barking dog in a nearby room from about 6PM until nearly 10PM.
Shower grout mold. Just eww.
Very small parking lot.
Some balconies have a much better view than others. And the balcony is rather small.
Internet was slow and the «elite» high speed option was not obvious if it was even there.
Positives
When the parking lot is full, they will valet park cars at no charge.
When I complained about the mold in the showerhead, they simply replaced the showerhead.
Every room is an oceanfront room (but it’s the same at the other properties).
Yes, its a Residence so each room has a rangetop, microwave and full size refrigerator with the usual plates and pots and pans plus a dining table as well as a work table. Just like in a furnished apartment!
I didn’t try the breakfast in the morning or the evening meal, the pool or the fitness room, sorry.

A bit of a mixed bag for me here. The hotel is of course nicely situated on the beach and every room has a lovely view of the ocean. We really enjoyed waking up every morning and watching the dolphins playing in the water! I would suggest bringing some binoculars to get a better view of them. The room itself was fairly typical of a Residence Inn with a kitchen area, living area, bedroom and bathroom. We were fortunate to have a LARGE patio off of our room, but most rooms will simply have a balcony. The room was in average shape but looks like it could be due for some upgrading soon. The bed wasn’t overly comfortable for us, but we are used to a sleep by number bed. The complimentary WiFi worked relatively well and I liked the fitness center and indoor pool/​hot tub.
What I didn’t like about this hotel was the complimentary buffet breakfast and the parking. The buffet was just of poor quality. The fruit tasted like it had some sort of preservative on it and the eggs tasted like powder eggs. We ate here once and that was enough for us. Parking was simply a nightmare. The lot is very small and holds maybe 20 cars or so. Good luck getting a spot, even a handicap one, which we were after. You will basically have to park elsewhere or do valet.
Next time I’m in the area, I will likely check out some of the other hotels before returning here.

The rooms are huge and comfortable as any other residence inn. But what really made me open my eyes early in the morning was the sunrise! Gorgeous views from the ocean at every single room, although I still recommend higher floors to give you the idea of being in the water!
Breakfast is the average frozen food as ALL hotels in America, fresh breakfast are found only on B&B places or paying for in 5stars hotels.
Parking? Where? There’s none, but only the check in parking area.
Regardless the downsides., did I mention about the stunning views?

It’s good, it’s just not as clean as I would like. The breakfast buffet is diverse and very good. The parking is worse than abominable. It’s just ridiculous. Trying to pull in there to check in is an absolute joke.

Beach hotel chains tend to be all very similar. The rooms at the Residence in were spacious and clean with a nice little kitchen. The living room furniture was not the most comfortable especially the chair, but I can understand some of their choices since I’m sure kids just plop down on them in wet bathing suits.
Breakfast each morning was a generous spread, including a waffle maker, fresh juice, etc… Additionally they have a PC and printer avialable at no charge.
The gym was sorta disapointing (like an after thought) two treadmills and an eliptical with a TV that is behind and to the left of the machines so that no one could really enjoy them, unless you happened to be doing dumbells. In their defense each machine had it’s own TV but you could only listen to them with headphones (typical at most gyms).
The indoor poor was acceptable, most people don’t come to the beach to swim in pools. The hotub was broken while we were there, which is a little disapointing.
Now, the one thing I strongly dislike about this hotel, the parking is an abomination. Seriously, like 100 hotel rooms and like 20 parking spots. Yes, they have «Free» valet (but seriously, who doesn’t tip valets?). If we come again, the parking situation might be enough to disuade me from chosing this location (especially when the Marriot Courtyard has boat loads of parking down the street).

3.5 stars.
Not as upgraded as some of the newer residence inns or towneplace suites and definitely smaller than the avg residence inns. However, staff was very nice and the breakfast was lots of hot food. The kitchen and space is nice but small balcony and rooms as compared to other in the chain. For a beach hotel the quality is good though. Especially if you go after Labor Day the price drops dramatically. The parking is not great but you get one free valet park and there is a garage across the street for 10 dollars a day.
Overall a good option for a family and they even allow dogs!

Location was great, staff were friendly, rooms were clean, however pool was small, balcony was small, and adjacent parking was smal.
