Specialties

Our meat department can’t be beat for freshness. We have daily shipments of beef, chicken, pork and seafood. We perform an old-​fashioned butchering service, where our butchers will prepare your order to your specifications. We also have a full line of cold cuts and specialize in Italian products.

Our produce department is known for its quality. Our produce buyers make a great effort to bring you the freshest products on the market. It includes watermelon, cantaloupe, honeydew melon, oranges, pears, apples, pineapple, grapes, grapefruit and other fruits. We literally go through tons of it every year! Love our fruit? Try our custom-​made fruit baskets. They’re so good, some of our competitors don’t bother with their own – they buy from us. Delivery is available with advance notice.

We also carry a line of heat & serve meals. From Macaroni & Cheese to Old-​Fashioned Tripe, our family recipes are tried and true, though we are always thinking up new ones.

Let me make this clear: my review is only in regards to their hot and ready macaroni and cheese. It is pure heaven. I dream about this Mac and cheese day and night. So creamy. Stir well to get the cheese up from the bottom! Everything else looks amazing, but I’ve been unable to purchase anything other than the Mac and cheese!

Love this lil grocer! We have come many times for pastries or easy food for dinner. Decided for mother’s day that niether myself or my mother in law should cook. So we ordered a medium garden salad, which was enormous! Eggplant parm whcih was 5 eggplants deep and stawberry shortcake (10 In). Holy moly was it all delish and fresh and mmm mmm good! I def will use this catering option again! Reasonably priced and was ready when we asked.

We just moved to Wakefield and this has become my favorite place to shop. The bakery is amazing with all the fresh breads and amazing single serving pastries for just $ 1.25. The calzones are very good along with the already prepared dinners.
I have always enjoyed patronizing the small business’s even though they are usually more expensive. Farmland has great prices on all their produce and I find them very reasonable on just about everything.

Farmland use to be better 10 years ago as it’s just ok. I like the large ITALIAN imported section near the bakery, and their fruit and produce are pretty good. What I don’t like are the people who work behind the cold cut counter. I feel like I’m bothering them and they look and act as if their job is very painful. Not a friendly crew there. I also don’t like when they tell you a price upon order over the phone then to get there and the price is more. Farmland is good but I’d go the distance to Pace where they are the funniest and friendliest people around. And their variety of meats are fresh.

Went there yesterday. Overall, the FOUR STARS I gave was for the taste of the calzones, but the customer service breaks down like this:
I ordered 2 calzones from the counter-​guy who was wearing a white hat. He asks, «Do you want half calzones or whole calzones?» «I want whole calzones for both», I answered. He asks, «Do you want them hot or cold»?. I said, «Hot». He then says, «We don’t have any hot.» I thought, why did you ask me then? Why didn’t you just TELL me I could only get them cold. When I asked what I should do (like heat them at home in the microwave or in the oven) he just stared at me like he didn’t care what I did with the calzones. THIS GUY SHOULD ONLY GET ONE STAR.
I politely walked away from the counter to look at other hot food, but came back. Another counter-​guy (not too tall with black hair) waited on me. When I ordered the 2 calzones, he immediately offered to heat them up in their oven. He also gave me a box for them for easier carrying. THIS GUY SHOULD GET FIVE STARS.
I want to thank the second counter-​guy. He made my experience so much more pleasant.

Farmland is the best. It’s a little pricey and limited to be your only grocery store… However, it’s fantastic for their homemade pesto, meatballs, breads, salads, etc. Treat it like the ‘prepared foods’ section of Whole Foods. The produce is generally a step above what you’d find at Shaw’s (etc) as well. A great family-​owned grocer who has served Wakefield for decades. And their bags are iconic — I use them for everything.

This place, if you love real whipped cream as much as I do, you will like this place.
Breakfast on the rush, we happened to see Farmland right across the street and saw a bakery sign, so we were like, meah, give it a try.
It was the RIGHT PLACE TO GO!
Grocery store itself was nothing too special, but the deli counter was so large and emerged into your face, you can not miss it.
Sadly, the bakery was hiding behind the deli counter, a little lonely. It was early though I suppose. The moment I saw the display area, I was instantly in heaven! Soo many varieties of pastries, I was literally trying to get every single piece.
They ain’t exactly cheap, but worth the penny you put down. Legit, real, fluffy cream and puffs, fresh fruit. It was like a pastry porn.
Lady behind the counter was grouchy looking and had a very heavy Italian accent. I guess it’s just a european thing… Reminded me of one of my favorite local French place owned by a French lady. She always looks pissed too.
Who cares, they make good bread and cake. They have the right to be grouchy!

I still have a hard time reviewing this place even though the bakery merged with the grocery store years ago.
Bakery: Top notch in the area. There’s a wait most of the time but you will get a superior product from anywhere else in the area. From cookies to bread, you will not be disappointed. The price does leave some to be desired unfortunately.
Deli: Their marinated meats are exceptional and are comparable to Dom’s. I would take theirs over quality of cuts but give them a tie with seasoning/​flavor. Farmlands prepared dinners are subpar and expensive but still are leaps and bounds better then their frozen counterparts.
As a sub shop: Excellent for cold cuts. Recommend Italian subs. But any cooked parmesan or meat based sub, I’d turn to a local restaurant.

The food here is good but the customer service is bad bad bad. Beyond bad… worse than bad. The people working behind the deli counter are the rudest and most unpleasant folks — especially the older 50’s-something guy. Geez… I have never seem him with anything less than a scowl on his face and his personality matches it. Try asking him a question and you’re lucky if he doesn’t bite your head off. The rest are just as rude and unpleasant. The owner of this place must treat his employees terribly for them to be so miserable, or maybe he doesn’t care how his employees treat paying customers? Either way, it just isn’t worth the poor customer service and the discomfort I feel whenever I walk into this store. Why should I spend my hard earned money at a business that has such horrible customer service? No thank-​you. I’d rather spend my hard-​earned $$ someplace else.

I had for $ 2.50 the Spinach pie.
I can only review what I ate.
The price was great.
The food was above average.
I liked the bread.
Lots and lots of spinach and nice cheese taste as well.
If you happen to be in the area and want to save some money on quick meal,
then I definitely recommend trying this.
Obviously, a small independent won’t be like Wegman’s.
Anyway, I’d be willing to come back and try again if I am in Wakefield.
But wouldn’t be a destination drive to visit (the way Russo’s is or Wilson Farm)

I tried Farmland for the first time yesterday for lunch. It was EXCELLENT!!!
Sandwiches were made to order with fresh deli meats and delicious bread. My lunch companion and I both got sandwiches made fresh from the deli. The seafood salad was amazing… huge chunks of seafood and not drowned by mayo. The Italian Sub was also great, fresh cold cuts and stuffed to the max!!! Both of these for UNDER $ 10. The gentleman behind the counter was very accommodating, making sure we got everything we needed. The woman at the register was very nice and polite as well.
I will return again to Farmland to try some of their other delicacies and to visit their bakery department (which I didn’t get a chance to try this time).

The farmland is great place to shop. I would go no where else for my marinated meats. The fresh produce is always excellent. The marinated steaks tips, I would recommend. The are always zesty and so packed with flavor. The party platters are delicious also. So many mouth watering choices. The owner Frank is genuine about his fresh quality of foods and great customer service. All the clients are mostly greeted by there names. That is important when going to a local business. Love Farmland!
I live within walking distance and go mainly for the fresh produce and terrific meat counter. They always have some great cuts of fish, beef etc… and a lot of specialty items like marinated chicken or beef. One of my favorites is the sandwich steak, which is just perfect for homemade Philly Cheesesteaks!
My daughter always gets me to stop at the bakery, and she loves the Italian cookies. The frozen Italian specialty desserts are great too (tiramisu, limoncello dessert, etc). They come in a glass which is great to reuse, and portioned individually which is nice.

I go here every now and then. It doesn’t have the selection of the supermarkets, but it has charm. It has a nice bakery, deli section, and fresh produce. I was able to get 20 precooked meatballs for 15 dollars which I though was decent. The pasta is quality just like the meatballs.

I’ve lived in Wakefield for 16 years and have been coming to The Farmland for as long as I can remember. I’ve never had anyone be rude to me. To the contrary, I’ve always found the staff helpful and pleasant. I’m a Yankee from old Yankee stock, so maybe my expectations are different. Sometimes, when I read Unilocal reviews, I wonder if reviewers are looking for friendship more than service.
I don’t shop Farmland all the time. It’s a small green grocer/​deli/​bakery, not a huge supermarket chain, so the prices can’t compete. That said, sometimes I go there when I want to avoid spending too much. Because it’s a small place, there’s must less danger of breaking the bank on impulse items.
I love their breads, but other than that (oh, and their frozen ravioli in the bakery section is good, too), I now mostly avoid the bakery. The items sometimes taste too much like everything else in the bakery case. I think the aroma of the Italian cookies permeates the other baked goods.
The produce is fresh and generally good looking. The raw meats are excellent, as are the cold cuts. We’ve had good luck with the prepared foods and will sometimes order a tray or half tray of Chicken, Ziti and Broccoli, for family parties, when we don’t want to cook.
I wish that, in season, they would either stock more local produce, or if they already do, that they would highlight their local suppliers. Wakefield has a nice little Farmer’s Market each Saturday, but I can’t always get there, and like to buy local and in season, when I can.
At the end of the day, Farmland isn’t perfect, but I’d miss it like crazy if it was gone.
