Cathedral Custom Cleaners

This store finally closed a few weeks ago, a victim of their own poor service, I suspect.

I don’t know why I see bad reviews for this place. The guy that runs the place is really genuine. English isn’t his first language, but it does not effect he customer service whatsoever.
I had spilled oil on a dress shirt. It didn’t come out (usually it doesn’t) the first time and they offered to try it again. I was then out of the states for a few months and when I had come back, they still had my shirt (which I had forgotten about) there and the stain was out!
Also, they let you name the day you want it back, with no extra charge. AND they are always done!
Highly recommended !

I too live across the street and thought this would be ok for my general clothing. (I drive the trickier stuff to Palace Cleaners on Wisconsin). My clothes, even the average work pieces, are almost all designer, high quality, expensive fibers. Used this place about 12 times. Cashmere, cotton and linen sweaters came back almost always with a strong funky smell and very stiff, which usually means cheap and/​or reused cleaning solution. Pants and jackets fared better. They don’t cover buttons. They’re hit or miss with stains — I get the sense that’s because they don’t bother to pay attention to them, even those marked with their own colored tape (I’m obsessive about marking spots). And they’re not cheap for service that’s modest at best.
Reason I stopped using them is that brought in a sweater with an easy stain on it and when I picked up my pieces a few days later one Saturday morning, that spot clearly wasn’t even touched. The only staff on hand was a woman at the counter, maybe 20 and who barely spoke English. I told her it needed to be redone and after she stopped protesting, she reluctantly agreed. But refused to give me a ticket for the piece (!). Didn’t take a genius to realize I’d never see the sweater again or I’d get hit with another cleaning bill. I demanded to talk to manager or owner at that moment and she wound up making a few cellphone calls until she located someone. It was odd that on what should be a busy day for a cleaner, no one with any accountability was reachable. I finally spoke to someone, demanded a receipt and then had to demand it be marked Redo-​No Charge. Finally got it handled. Picked up the sweater a few days later, spot was removed enough… I couldn’t deal with going through the same nonsense with them again… and have never been back.

I’ve been twice. The first time was a sweater for $ 6. It wasn’t ready on time. The second try was to get two pair of pants repaired. One pair was repaired well. The other had a broken snap. I had asked to have it repaired or replaced with a button. It was returned untouched with the non-​explanation that the tailor couldn’t do either. I was told that they had undercharged me so that I would still have to pay almost what I had been quoted for fixing two pairs of pants. Not a business I’m willing to keep using.

I live right next door to the Zoo, so the convenience of crossing the street to do my dry cleaning cannot be beat. But with no reviews on Unilocal,I took a topcoat to the highly rated Custom Cleaners. It was about $ 21 and came out looking great.
A week later I took another, similar coat to Cathedral Custom Cleaners. $ 7. And it also came out looking great.
For one third the price, and the convenience of walking across the street, I would recommend checking it out. The man who works there is nice, and I can’t complain about the service. The price, though, is what will have me coming back. My next visit will be with a wider variety of garments.
