One of the best day spas in DC by far. Daiva and everyone that works for her (from Zakia to the receptionists) are incredibly personable and professional. They offer top quality services at great prices. Cannot recommend this salon enough!

My first one star review. It’s very unfortunate because of the location and I don’t like giving anyone a bad review.
I got waxed and a manicure by Rosie. I could have done a better job myself. My nails looked worse afterwards then when I went in. They were uneven and rough. The polish was done in a rush, she wasn’t paying attention to what she was doing because she was talking about some dramas in her life-​very negative– and she also cut my cuticle and blamed me for it.
When I get my services done the last thing I want to hear about are some strangers issues. It’s so unprofessional and irritating.
The waxing service: BEWARE, Rosie double dips. She used the same stick several times. You’re suppose to throw it away before another application. This spreads disease if you don’t know. This is truly horrifying. I’ll never go back.
It’s a shame for anyone else working there to have had this review because of one person.

I followed Daiva to her salon because she is the best. When my teenage daughter was teased in school because of her terrible acne, I set up a standing appointment with Daiva. It was incredible for my daughter. All the women in my family go to Daiva for her facials she is a real professional.

It had been some time (and by that I mean a few years) since I first stepped in to Salon Roi, so when I found another Living Social deal for this business, I decided to give them another try. In the past couple of years, a great deal has changed, and I feel that they have improved immensely since my first visit back in 2013. In fact, not only have I returned twice for waxing services, but I also just recently received a haircut through their salon services, and I have not once been disappointed.
The new aesthetician for waxing services is miles above the previous person, with not just great personality but also a strong sense of hygiene and great skill with the work. Zakiya is fun, pleasant, and easy to talk to. For an experience that tends to be relatively unpleasant, she sure knows how to make it feel like a breeze! Even though it’s a tiny bit more pricey than some of the places closer to me, it’s worth going back here to know that I will be so well taken care of.
On Wednesday evening, I went in for a haircut with Michael in the salon section. He was extremely fun and positive throughout the appointment and got me out the door remarkably quickly. He was even willing to cut my hair dry, which I’ve noticed is rare around here for a woman with such long hair, and still did a phenomenal job giving me what I wanted. My face is nicely framed by his mild layering and my hair feels lighter and healthier without looking distressingly shorter than it was.
Salon Roi is in a great location with adorable décor and a really lovely bunch of people. Their prices are moderate, fair, and worth it considering the quality of work that you’ll get done. I strongly recommend going to them for whatever beauty needs you might have.

This is a review for a facial I had here. I had gone through severe hormonal imbalances the last few months and had acne scars and dull skin. After my facial I was glowing. It has been a month and my skin looks just as good as the day I left the salon. They really know there stuff and use all natural ingredients. They made recommendations about what I can do to continue to maintain my skin after my facial and I followed the advice and my skin has just continue to improve ever since. I will be going back for sure.

The customer service and knowledge you receive are fantastic! I had a facial, and I would highly recommend them.

Zakiya (Zee) was awesome… Discussed the products that were being used, but didn’t talk too much which was nice too. Wasn’t pushy about buying any other products. Asked if you wanted to do extractions, instead of just doing it. Enjoyed the foot massage that came with it too.
Space review:
At first I thought there would be a lot of noise, but then you go up the stairs (admire the Marilyn Monroe artwork along the way) and then nothing. Very quite space with wonderful ambiance music.
Somebody’s definitely making a trip back there.

Amazing facials! Daiva gives best facials of my life!

This was my first visit to Salon Roi, and I really enjoyed it. The administrative assistant Evelyn was very professional, warm, and helpful. I I as asked to fill out a form about my overall health and my skin regimen Another stylist was kind enough to offer me coffee. My aesthetician Daiva did the acne clearing facial with extractions and she is trluly excellent. I came in with very painful cystic acne which I am having treated (retin-​A and Clindamycin), but is still persistant. The room and the salon is very clean, and has a vintage Hollywood Glamour theme. The owner clearly loves the iconic beauty Marilyn Monroe whose image is well incorporated into the décor.
The room was very relaxing, with low lit light and soft calming music which helped to create a tranquil environment. Daiva thoroughly but gently, cleansed my skin, did several masque treatments and finally extractions of pustules and the cysts. My skin looks much much better and my cysts are already drying up. Daiva is excellent she is professional, on time, and very knowledgeable. She selected some products and I bought 2 of the three. I will definitely keep going there and I recommend Salon Roi.

I got a groupon for 3 facials at Salon Roi early this winter, and it was really a wonderful experience for me. I got the three facials done by Diaya who is absolutely amazing. I definitely plan on going back, but I wish that I could use another groupon, because the prices are high for me.
The ambiance is really nice, and they do a very good job reminding customers about appointments, and sending information about deals.

I received a groupon for a facial here from a friend. What a fantastic birthday present. Daiva was excellent… calming, professional and attentive. Could not have asked for a more relaxing end to the day.

My review is for a Brazilian wax with Zakiyah (spelling!) that I purchased from a living social deal.
First I need to say that the building is awesome and beautiful! It is definitely not for those with trouble with stairs however unless there was an elevator I didn’t see. There is an ATM on site which is very helpful also. The decorations are beautiful and the staff was very friendly.
So this is the first time I’d ever had a Brazilian and Z was great with keeping me at ease, she explained the whole process and she works fast! It was as pain free as a wax job down there could be, no bruising, just a good job.
Mega thanks to her, I’ll be a regular here for sure!
Pro Tip! Catch the red line metro to Woodley Park to avoid hassle with street parking, although I went on a slow weekday and it was fine in the evening.

I went to Salon Roi for a signature facial yesterday. I would HIGHLY recommend Hannah and her services. She is very kind and knowledgeable; my skin looked and felt great afterwards! This facial includes a foot massage witch was absolutely amazing. I will definitely be returning to Salon Roi!

I came here the first time because of a Living Social deal for three facials and I have been very impressed. Although the building is old, the service is great and that’s what really counts. I have had many facials over the years for my trouble-​skin, and Zakiya does some of the best. She really knows what she’s talking about in terms of what is good for your skin and what it needs. Lucky for me, I got a half-​off coupon to go back now that my three facials are done otherwise I wouldn’t be able to go.

This review is for the waxing with Daiva. I found the place through Living Social. The service was quick and painless and Daiva as super friendly! She talked me through my appointment and made me feel at ease. No irritation yet! The salon is very cozy and cute. I was offered tea in the waiting room almost immediately. I made my appointment for 5 weeks later as I left, thanks Daiva and Salon Roi!

I bought a Living Social for the Brazilian here and was pleased with the results. Zakiya was very professional and knowledgeable in working with different types of wax and treatment to avoid redness and irritation. I’ve had no issues with ingrowns since. The staff were friendly and attentive.

I highly recommend Blanca for haircuts, styling and color! I’ve been going to her for almost four years and have never been disappointed. I love the location and the old building — full of history! — plus Roi has been there since I first went there (different salon name then) in 1973. I’ve had a facial with Daiva — super! Do try Salon Roi!

For a lot of years, I have been lucky to have Blanca cut and color my hair and Marita make my nails civilized and lovely. Like everyone at Salon Roi, they are talented and kind. It is a good place to go!

Pretty decent treatment, but I had an amazing aesthetician who has been doing her work for 5 years — her name starts with a «Z,» and she is in her early/​mid-​20s, but I do not dare to type her name (no idea how to spell it!!!). Sounds something like Za-​kai-​ya? Anyhow, I was impressed, and I was given a coupon for another visit within 1.5 months — so I booked another deep cleansing facial as I left.
Like other reviewers, yes, it is an old building, but… if all we did was go to brand new recently renovated businesses, we’d be out of luck. Already knowing this, I was prepared not to let it bother me. Docking one star because I was told that I can only tip with cash or check, neither of which I had at the moment. There is a convenient ATM in their business establishment, making me wonder if there is motivation for this «policy.» Hmmm… The other reason is that during the session, there was lively conversation, but no specific questions about my comfort. However, because it was a dialogue back and forth, my presumption is that she could tell I would tell her if something was uncomfortable, etc. This was fine for me, because, yes, I would speak up if something was «off,» but some timid clients might feel too shy or insecure to say something.
Anyhow, discussion is helpful before sometime works on your face for an hour. I appreciated the sensitive and, well, probing questions about my concerns. It worked well to help determine the products she would use. It also helped to determine the type of facial and suggestions she made for me for ongoing skin care. She made me feel as though all my problems/​concerns were normal, nothing to go crazy over, and just encouraged good practices rather than pushing products.
The lighting was nice, the music was soft, but not my ideal. The temperature was comfortable, the room private and well-​provisioned. The experience was seamless from start to finish. She didn’t miss a beat. Everything was smooth and comfortable — all things considered. I felt confident in her skills and was happy with the glowing results. I will be back next month because this place is affordable, convenient and professional.

I went to Salon Roi for facials with Daiva and she is a genius. My skin stays clear for weeks after one facial, but it does look a little puffy on the day of. In between facials, I’ve been using the Bioelements and Guinot mask products at home that Salon Roi carries, and my skin has been looking 100% better.
The Marilyn Monroe theme running throughout the three floors is kind of kitschy, but I like it.
I would have docked ½ star because I don’t think I’ve ever had an appointment start on time, but other than that, I’ve only had great experiences.

I got a Groupon deal for this place, and I really loved it. I’m thinking about making it my regular place for where I get certain bidness done. It’s not hair styling. It’s not nails. Use your imagination.
So, they started about 10 minutes late, and in that time, two different staffers brought me water, checked on me, apologized for the wait and introduced themselves. Since my regular place regularly starts 15 – 20 minutes late and does none of this, I felt like a fucking fairy princess.
Enough vulgarities. The space is inviting, and the different service areas (because chicks are just like cars) are separated, making things more intimate. I overheard the the very funny and sweet male stylist talking candidly to what seemed like a new customer, which I like. Small talk is painful in these places.
Emma, my «stylist» was incredibly helpful and explained things, even though I threw my nose into the air and informed her that I was a pro at this particular procedure. She talked to me about the history of the salon — Did you know it’s almost 45 years old and was the first salon in DC to cater to both men and women? Well, now you do.
The staff is wonderful, the three-​floor salon is gorgeous, and everyone there is clearly doing what businesses are supposed to do when giving away their services for a discounted price: make you want to come back even without the Groupon. And they definitely did.

I would actually like to give Salon Roi a 5 star rating for their service, but I noticed that Unilocal is filtering many high and low reviews, and I don’t want them to hide this one.
I’ve had the opportunity to try most of their services, and would definitely recommend them. Their facials are fantastic, and made my skin look and feel much better after their service and advice for follow-​on care. Their waxing and tinting never left me disappointed. I’m planning on trying their massages.
The hair service is wonderful. I personally tried three different stylists, and all were very good and had their own style. Personally, I think the prices are very reasonable for the DC area.
I always look forward to spending a couple of hours in the salon itself because of its historical feel, and the overall vibe of the neighborhood. Great area to grab a drink or dinner after your visit. Very easy to reach by metro.
Overall I would highly recommend trying this salon!
