Specialties
Smacks are a modernized version of the delicious, addictive French treat Canelés, a specialty of the Bordeaux region. At Smack!, we have been obsessed with these little custardy cakes since we first tasted them and now, after eight years of experimenting with different recipes and techniques, we are offering the best Canelés you’ll ever find.
Like traditional Canelés, Smacks are bitesize pastries with a rich, creamy center surrounded by a crisp, caramelized crust. We have a classic version spiked with rum and vanilla, as well as a variety of fun new flavors, like chocolate, orange, espresso, and basil.
Smacks are more sophisticated than cupcakes, more opulent than madeleines, more exotic than macarons. Once you try one, there’s no going back.
History
Established in 2012.
Smack was born from Stéphane M.‘s passion for Canelés. He used to prepare these tasty but temperamental treats for friends and the feedback was so positive that he decided to create a business and introduce the Washington DC area to this typically French pastry. Stephane then proceeded to experiment and introduce various flavors to what is traditionally a single flavor treat. This is why Smacks are a DC specialty that are authentic French Caneles with a twist. Canelés are spelled with one ‘n’ or two ‘n’s depending on who you ask but one thing people can agree on is that they are delicious!
