Washington Marriott Georgetown

My stay has been terrific! Slight confusion with check-​in and credit card details, but Manager Matt worked with me to rectify the issue pretty smoothly. Surprised me with treats and an apology note in my room as well as comped dinner and drinks!
I’m using the app and they’ve accommodated my requests and have been wonderful to work with.
The hotel is clean, well taken care of and comfortable.
Highly recommend!

We had a very bad experience dealing with The Marriott Georgeotown.
I booked a room for my mother and sister to stay at during their visit to DC. Problems began when we attempted to check-​in and the staff members at the front desk appeared to have trouble finding our reservation or understanding questions. Having booked through the Marriott website, I believed I had prepaid for the room. I hadn’t, which was fine and I was to prepared to pay for the reservation but when I asked about having prepaid, the person at the front desk told me I had, and that I wouldn’t be charged again.
Luckily, by chance I happened to check my bank statement later that day and noticed that they had in fact charged me for the reservation. Again, this is to be expected since I hadn’t prepaid, but the person at the front desk had told me I had and that I wasn’t being charged. If he had to just told me that I would be charged, I would’ve been fine with it but the customer service was really lacking and there was no communication made about the charge being made.
Later, when my mom and sister went to check out they printed off a copy of our bill, the «hold» they had put on my credit card for incidentals went through as a charge and they refunded the hold amount to my other card. This would’ve been fine, except the bill didn’t show the refund as a refund, just another charge. I called Marriott customer service to clarify the charge when I noticed that the hold went through as charge and the refund didn’t show up in either account. Apparently the person at the front desk at check-​out had charged both of my accounts instead of refunding to either of them.
Unless you have spare hundreds of dollars and a lot of time and patience, I’d recommend booking elsewhere. Another note on customer service: my mother had trouble getting her key card to work and asked an employee on her floor for help and they unhelpfully replied «Well is there someone in the room who can let you in?»
Just avoid.

The room was nice and fresh. And pretty roomy, even.
I ordered a small refrigerator, and one was quickly delivered. It was inoperative, of course, and looked like it had been used for target practice on the mortar range. They quickly provided a working unit. I guess i need to be more specific when I order things
The bathroom door was delaminating. The shower/​water temp fixture was of the suicide variety, either too hot or too cold. The flow could not be adjusted.
My bed was very comfortable, as were the four or five pillows on the bed. I slept well, and there was very little outside noise to disturb me. As far as inside noise, there was the HVAC. Ever been at Moffett Field when they cranked up the wind tunnel?
The Wi-​Fi charge for the room was $ 13 per day, but it was free in the lobby. That’s a head-​scratcher. There are two laptops available in the lobby «For Printing Boarding Passes ONLY», but people used them for everything else, and nobody minded.
In the morning, coffee was free in the lobby, and so were several newspaper editions. That was nice. The staff was quite pleasant. The elevators were fast enough. The location was swell, and the price was right. Yeah, I would stay here again. I’m just not that picky.

The worst Marriott I’ve ever been in. After calling more than a week before to request a room with a King size bed and being assured that we would get one if it was available, when we got there we were told that we had only paid for a room with 2 double beds, and that while King size beds were available, double beds is what we would be getting. The workers are rude, and the building is rundown, dirty, and falling apart. On top of all that, the wi-​fi is only free in the lobby… REALLY?! 21^st century! Jump in!
Never again!

Bring your own oxygen!
The air in the hotel is SO stale. The guest room windows have all been sealed shut and there is very little (if any) fresh air pumped in to the HVAC system. The lack of air made me claustrophobic. The meeting rooms were worse… my colleagues had to take regular breaks to go outside to gasp for fresh air… crazy!
The Executive Lounge was one of the most basic I’ve experienced. Dreadful «rubber» pastries in the morning and budget appetizers in the evening.
There are a gazillion hotels in the area… I would skip this one.

This Marriott is a disgrace to the chain’s honorable name. From its extremely cramped and dowdy furnishings to the poorly operational plumbing, this hotel is far less desirable than a courtyard experience. The only saving grace is a wonderful staff who are far more professional than the facility in which they work. Shame on Marriott!

Hotel was in a great location within walking distance of some great historical landmarks. Rooms were decent sized and beds were comfortable. Unfortunately the drinks in the bar were pretty scant. Annoying to get a martini that’s half full, and even more annoying when the bartender admits to skimping on the vodka when you order a «tall» glass. Moral of the story– sleep here but don’t drink here

I stayed here with my wife and son for 2 nights as a mini spring break getaway. Staff was very friendly, the lobby was nice and modern, the food in the lobby restaurant was pretty good and the room was nice and clean. Location was pretty central for everything I planned. No complaints here and I would stay here again.

This has to be one of the worst hotel experiences I have ever had! Upon checkin, my reservation was all messed up! I paid for a standard room with free valet parking, in full, and when I checked in they had a standard room with no valet and wanted me to pay again. Thank goodness for keeping emails and receipts! I had to prove them wrong. So they comped me one night of valet and the other 2 nights were 45 bucks a pop. Bullshit! Next the rooms were average. The sink in the bathroom came up to an inch above my knees. It was a pain in the ass to wash my face or brush my teeth because the sink was so low. Then as if it couldn’t get any worse… my toilet flooded the bathroom. The water was coming from the bottom of the toilet (base area). Had to change rooms at 4am! So I would never recommend this place to anyone.

I’ve normally stayed at the JW Marriott off Pennsylvania Ave but decided to give this one a try. The bathroom is very, very small but the rest of the room was great. The wifi was also down when I checked in and it still appears to be down for technical issues still. If it wasn’t for that, I would’ve given the hotel more stars.

I was surprised by some of the reviews, our room was very clean and quite modern, the location is very good and the price was right. The only complaint I had was with parking, when you enter the garage the self park spots were filled and there were not many and then there is a large section of valet but there is no parking attendants so I paid in the valet section and I happened to find someone who told me that it was fine. I wasted some time waiting for someone but other than parking all else was great.

We stayed as a couple, since it was in the Georgetown-​area and we were looking to hang out there for the day. We didn’t have a very good experience checking in and a different time with parking in their garage, but making a mention of these issues to the manager seemed to take care of the concerns we had, immediately! They definitely exceeded our expectations in handling our concerns.
Aside from that… We did enjoy the look of the hotel, the lobby was beautiful! The rooms were smaller than we like, be adequate. The bed was comfortable and the rooms were nice and clean.
The location is great, as it’s close enough to Georgetown that a cheap $ 4 Über ride would get us there, yet far enough away from M & Wisconsin that we could get to other areas of the city without having to deal with all the traffic in the middle of Georgetown.
We look forward to coming back and giving them another try.
After reading the mixed reviews, I would suggest you give them a try too, as it appears that the management is interested in ensuring their guests are well-​taken care of. Seems that there might be a couple of employees working there who just don’t meet muster.
I gave this hotel a 4 instead of a 2 or 4 because of the management’s involvement in ensuring things went well… it says that they do care.

I would give this hotel only one star if it weren’t for the very dedicated and nice staff.
My first room smelled terrible, and I mean terrible, but while I had over heard the front desk say the hotel was completely booked, the clerk immediately apologized and gave me keys to a new one. As I entered the next room I froze in my tracks realizing… it was already occupied… I knew they were booked but really… doubling up in a room with a stranger!!! Horrified that such an error could occur I raced back down to the front desk to describe what I had seen. She was equally as horrified and quickly found me another room that she was certain this time lacked another occupant. To my relief she was right but the room was old, small and dirty in the way that old motels get after going years without a real renovation.
Weary but happy to be settled I made my way to the bar. The bartender was great! Affable, nice and a great conversationalist I found myself relaxing as I ate my sandwich and enjoyed a draft dog head brew… that is until the cockroach raced across the bar in front of my seat. I grabbed a napkin, and showed the bartender. Again, like the front desk clerk he was mortified and discounted my meal but by this time, I was done.
Truth be told, the hotel staff obviously has passion for guest services and training but the hotel, being a Marriott, was not up to par. I can honestly say, I won’t be returning and being there are so many equally priced hotel options, probably not stay at another Marriott in the future.

I stayed there for 8 days but I really don’t recommend it to anyone… old furnished rooms, no full HD TVs, small bathrooms … Very limited amenities. Internet is not for free …

Ici le confort est tout juste acceptable et ce Marriott pourrait tout juste être accepté pour un 2 étoiles au maximum en Europe.
L’avantage de ce Marriott est sa situation pas très loin de Georges Town ! LE quartier le plus sympa de Washington … Pour le reste, cette ville n’est pas forcément attractive.

I stayed here for 4 days (Jerry Schall) and I had to call downstairs each day in order to remind them to send housekeeping. It was a very unorganized experience on their end.
There was also construction outside my window that woke me up in the morning — so much for a restful vacation.
Poor show, Marriott.

This hotel is couple blocks away from Trader Joes, Whole Foods and Foggy Bottom Metro station. The reception area and meeting rooms are good. The rooms are clean and well-​lit. It’s ideal for work or vacation! Love it!

Great staff, rooms, location, and the linens are so comfy! Paying for Wifi is a thumbs down for me as this is quite silly especially with the price of the rooms. Parking is 45 $ a night as well. But besides that it’s a great hotel that we will stay at again.

So I like this place. Centrally located. Not swanky but nice.

And this place gets security. I appreciate that all meals are easily boxed and handed over at the door. And the worker who came to help with my USB connection was female — she propped door before coming in. This place gets it. I appreciate it’s a business traveler and a woman.

Great service. Denzel Wong was wonderful helping me fix a reservation that I had done incorrectly. He was able to correct it and also gave us a great room.
The concierge floor breakfast is fantastic. Staff is very friendly. I stay here every time I visit my daughter.

I stayed in this hotel for 4 days for work. The staff was nice, but the rooms were sort of dingy. Peeling/​dirty wallpaper, dark, and just unpleasant. The gym was large, but had old equipment. The room had no safe or refrigerator. I had friends staying in the Hilton Garden Inn across the street and those rooms were bigger, cleaner and brighter. The rooms at Hilton also had a safe, microwave and refrigerator. Do your self a favor and stay there!!!

I booked through a third party site, which would result in a bunch of problems. More about that later.
The hotel is close to Georgetown and the Metro. It’s a short waking distance to the National Mall, and you will end up close to the Washington monument an all the other monuments at the east end of the Mall. The walk over to Georgetown is even shorter. The red line will take you to and from Union Station, or the Metro Center station if you need to change line. In other words I really love the hotel’s location.
My room was clean and decent sized. I had a room on the top floor, with an OK view. I guess my room faced a boring side of DC.
They have small units of shampoo, soap bar, shower gel, conditioner and moisturiser — leaving new ones everyday if they have been removed from the display case. Yepp. it look like store windows display units.
The staff was very welcoming when I arrived. Although they couldn’t find my reservation, due to the fact that I booked through a third party, they found me within five minutes. The problem was that they had concatenated my first and last name.
I booked a five night stay, but on my — what I thought was my second to last night — they slipped my room folio under the door. And to my shock it said that I was checking out today! Luckily I was able to extend my stay — in the same room.
Later that day I stumbled upon the maid, as she was cleaning my room. We started having some small talk, and she really showed appreciation for the tip she had received, and really went out of her way to make sure I was really satisfied with her service — I was.
It was time to wake up and check out. A new folio was slipped under the door, and I just had to double check everything. And, what did I find out? They had overcharged me close to 400 dollars! The cost pr. night was over $ 30 higher than my booking confirmation stated, and they added taxes. Taxes was included in my confirmed booking price.
Once again the receptionist was helpful and understanding. She lowered the rates and honored my original booking. Next time I will book straight trough Marriott, and keep away from those booking sites — at least when I stay with Marriott.
Ohh… and be warned: Wifi is a whooping 13 dollars /​24h … Unless you are a Marriott Rewards member. Members get free Wifi — if booked straight through an official channhel.

This a standard business traveller hotel. Services are adequate, and it is well situated.
We do have several observations about items that could have been better. We are a family of 5 with 3 grown children. The kids stayed 3 to a room which we bought as a triple, but there was no roll away bed, it took 3 hours and 2 reminders to get, and then it did not fit, i. e. One couldn’t move in the room.
We were on the 9^th facing the rear with a constant deep thrumming noise on the outside. On Saturday morning the construction site started up at 7 AM.
The rooms are generally small and semi-​renovated but old bath doors (all splintered at the bottom) were kept, the AC is noisy and drafty, and there is too much upholstered furniture for the room size. The lobby is nicely renovated but the 9^th floor hallway had an ugly acoustic tile ceiling and some oddly patterned carpet. It all looks tired.
USB plugs are provided, but not at the night stands.
The coffee machine is on a glass shelf with no place to put the coffee once brewed.
The pool was closed, a disappointment as I like to swim for a back condition.
The TV was generally low def and occasionally switched to HD.
Wi-​fi is not free. The lines at the under staffed reception were consistently long and the personnel was friendly. The worst was the parking at $ 49-​$ 45/​day valet/​self parking. We self parked in spaces made for compact cars, we had to fold all mirrors and still could only crack the doors to get in and out. Parking on M Street half a block away was $ 22 for 24 hours. We returned to the room at 2 PM after leaving at 8 and it hadn’t been made up yet.
Advice: book in advance somewhere else. We had a change in plans close to our travel date and had to make do with this hotel. We honestly expected more from a Marriott.

Yes, first time to this Marriott Hotel. Even company business, with Platinum Elite member, I got this room on 3^rd floor. Not pleasant walking out of the elevator. Not knowing if there’s a gym, uncomfortable smell pushed me into staying inside the room. Perhaps this hotel has a history. I felt I’ve been to a courtyard type or level.
Anyway, too tired & don’t want to be told I didn’t play the room. Just one night stay. No big deal!
If you pay for your room, try not to take this level.

I was here for a business trip and was quite pleased with the service and overall comfort of this hotel.
My taxi driver gave me a hard time when I told him I was headed to the Marriott Georgetown. He did not think it deserved that second part of its name, as it was not exactly close to Georgetown University. Near or not, I found this hotel to be in a great location – walking distance to Foggy Bottom subway stop and a lot of different shops and restaurants.
This hotel is an ideal place for a conference or business meeting. There are plenty of «ballrooms» (Salon A, B, C, D etc.) where they can set up A/​V and projector and seat at least 50 people if they take down the divider and combine two of the salons. Unfortunately, there are no windows in any of these conference rooms, which means at some point you will be dying to get out of the hotel and see a glimpse of the sky.
Per day room charge for wifi. It works freely I believe in the lobby area, but don’t count on it in the conference rooms.
I find it interesting that they provide facial cleansing make-​up/​remover tissue in the bathroom. It came in handy, as I did not bring my own cleanser. Unfortunately, the one day I needed to remove makeup was the day they did not replenish the stock in my bathroom. I wrote a kind note to Housekeeping, and they re-​stocked it the next day.
All in all, I only have 2 quibbles with my stay here:
– Wifi is awful in the conference rooms, if it even exists (not for me)
– Housekeeping seems to take quite a bit of time to finish each floor, which is fine if you are gone for most of the day, but if you are mainly staying at the hotel (i.e. for business) and need to duck into your room to take calls, then it becomes a bit inconvenient. Twice I went up to my room to find them in the middle of cleaning. They are very understanding and will come back if you ask them to. Great service, overall.

Centrally located to most to be seen places. Shopping, eateries, hospital, college and more. There are cabs, trolleys and Segway as well as bicycle rentals available. This visit we were told pool /​sauna closed for renovation. Breakfast was a challenge as we are on concierge floor with «private» Access to lounge and many just wait for the door to open an enter without access card. We waited a long time for a table. Usually there are 1 to 4 other couples whereas this was overrun with to many people. Let’s up the requirements Marriot and have someone check us in vs the way it is now. Not feeling special with hoarded of people

Okay, here goes. I was deciding between three and four stars, but I’m generally a generous person, so the WMG got the bump. I uploaded many pictures of the room, so you can look at those, too.
First, the good:
1– The Concierge lounge. Great staff, great food. By no means are these hors d’oeuvres. For many of us, the CL is our evening meal after a long day of work, and this location makes it work. Sure, they offer the typical cheese/​crackers, but they also had a full spread of wonderful vegetables and olives (roasted squash, asparagus, tomatoes, etc), and two hot dishes every night (sometimes a hot dish and garlic bread). Great fare, much appreciated.
2 — Housekeeping! The housekeeping staff was fantastic, and more than earned the cash I left them every day. Please tip your housekeepers! They are doing a rough job! :)
3 — General staff. The valets, front desk staff, etc were all helpful. They also hosted a special dinner for Platinum Elite guests while I was there, which was well catered.
4 — Bed was comfortable, room was clean.
Now, the let downs:
1 — I was on the 3^rd floor, in the back. Room had no view and was as far away from the elevator as you could get. As a Platinum member with Marriott, I expect better… and I should, considering how much business I bring Marriott’s way.
2 — Location isn’t great for DC. You’re a decent walk away from the mall and the museums. However, there are some decent restaurants in the area. The closest metro is also about a 5 block walk away. That’s not terrible, but it’s not great for DC.
So, four out of five based mostly on the CL and the great housekeeping staff.

This was an ideal place to stay and way to stay for a recent long weekend trip to Washington D.C. with a friend. The staff could not have been more welcoming and accommodating and the location proved to be ideal for us to travel on foot, by bus or subway or by cab.
We arrived prior to the designated check in time but a room was ready and we happily deposited our luggage and headed out.
One of my pet peeves at hotels is how loudly guest room doors slam which can be a really disruptive noise throughout the night. Thankfully these are not those doors.
The fitness room provided a nice mix of machines, free weights, treadmills etc. and the heated, indoor pool is right next door. Clean towels, complimentary ear plugs, water and fruit are also thoughtfully provided. It was too cold for running outdoors so this was a nice alternative that enabled me to start the day with an invigorating workout.
The bar and lobby area always seemed to have folks hanging out and the service at the bar was pleasant, prompt and attentive.
I did not eat at the restaurant but did enjoy the hospitality at the concierge lounge and found it to be fabulous. The staff members who hosted the lounge during my stay were outstanding. They greeted everyone (and seemed to know quite a few by first name) and made the experience truly exceptional. It is easy to put out some food and drinks but the professional, personable level of service made every visit there feel exceptional.
From the front desk to the concierge, and the parking attendants to housekeeping, the staff seemed to go above and beyond at every opportunity. I can not remember ever having that experience anywhere else and I would definitely look forward to experiencing it again.

I stay here for work every week, and this is a review based on having status for Concierge lounge amenities. Overall, the Marriott does its job, it has a big 24 hour gym with a lot more equipment than most hotel gyms, a pool /​jacuzzi, a lounge with a good selection of food /​snacks /​drinks, and more tv channels than the Westin down the street. So overall, it serves a very livable status.
The rooms themselves are old and could use work, I find it difficult to sleep sometimes because of the AC /​heating system taking awhile to adjust to its setting, and the bathrooms are pretty small. Otherwise, it is pretty good to stay at. And the staff is very friendly!

Four star hotel, but the fact that their fire alarm woke us up at 6AM after a long night of partying really rubbed me the wrong way. Apparently someone had hit the sprinkler system so it triggered a total evacuation of the hotel and the adjacent Walgreens. My boyfriend and I, along with crowds of sleepy-​headed guests dressed in pajamas practically slept-​walked our way down countless flights of stairs to wait on the street while they attended to the situation. This took about 30 minutes and we had nowhere to go as we were waiting in downtown DC in pajamas. No explanation was given about why we were being evacuated (until we asked upon checking out)… nor were we compensated or apologized to for the huge inconvenience.
The upside? The staff was very nice to use at check-​in and check out— aside from the whole fire alarm fiasco— so we choose not to complain further. And although the rooms were pretty standard, they were more importantly spacious and clean. The bed was comfy and the bar and lobby downstairs was quite swanky. This Marriott is a solid choice given its prime location, but the way the management handled this alarm situation was pretty unprofessional and disappointing.
