Went here today on st Patricks days and dealt with some bouncer on a power trip who worked the outside bar. He ripped open my bag and threw out a sealed drink, no questions asked. I used to go here all the time up meet up with friends but honestly would pick any other bar on park ave after this experience!

Had the house Mahoney’s beer with my crew, who tasted it and branded it swill. For me, it was a little better than PBR, and was only a buck for a pint. A buck for a pint? Are you kidding? At that price, it just has to not have antifreeze in it and keep me out of the hospital. 2 days later, I’m here and Unilocaling, so that worked for me. Game on the big screen, good atmosphere, you could have a conversation without screaming. I’m in.

Mahoney’s is where a large man in his 60’s(who looked like Santa) taught my girlfriends and I how to play and score a game of darts. And then we taught him the wonders of the ring-on-the-hook game. Ah, Mahoney’s. Bringing people together. They also had Big Buck Hunter and pool, which were fun to challenge friends at. Although a little farther from the WPI campus than other bars, it was worth the cab ride/begging of a sober roommate to drive. The layout is really awful, though. The bar is like a big island in the middle of the room, forcing everyone to the perimeter, which makes it awkward for large groups to hang out together.

Always packed on Friday and Saturday nights. Typical top 40 songs played by a DJ with a hardwood dance floor available. The bar itself is nice, and borders classy. A young college/recent graduate crowd always makes for a fun time. Stick around for the end. They always close down at 2 am by playing Journey’s «don’t stop believing» and everyone sings along.

Great college bar. It’s a fun crowd, and a nice laidback atmosphere. I guess I just never liked this place too much. No particular reason though. I think the floors here were stickier than most other bars…
