First class coffee, interesting food. The coffee is good as ever. The food is great. The staff were very kind and attentive. It was a small yet comfortable place

Just lucked into this place by looking up Unilocal looking somewhere close to where I was staying for breakfast. Well Unilocal was spot on. This little gem is a real winner. Pretty full of locals & dog people(which is always a good sign) great, interesting food & very friendly staff. First class coffee but when you order an expresso realise that it will be the real McCoy. About 20ml & a super hit. We normally stay at the watermark in Brisbane(also very good, no frills) & Scout is a 10 min walk from there. Try it. Peter Hugall Perth & Noosa.

I’m a big fan of this place. Despite the bad location, limited parking, street noise, and cramped interior, I always manage to leave satisfied. The building itself has a real retro corner store feel to it(because it used to be one), with some small tables and chairs about, and a large shared table in the back room. The cutlery is also quaint, and the place is littered with magazines The coffee is always good, and comes out quick, and the food is great. I don’t think I’ve ever opted for anything besides the breakfast bagel, which would probably be their most notorious dish. A nice thick piece of bacon, a fried egg, and a great bagel — what more could you really want? I have spied a variety of their other dishes, however, and they all look great. The milkshakes are also a good option if you want to be uncomfortably full.

Coffee and breakfast were good and the staff were lovely but the interior furnishings were not that comfy and it was small and really loud. Even when you sit outside you get busy street noise. I doubt I’ll go back.

Excellent food, fresh and clean. We had a fresh juice, big breakfast and breakfast with beagle. Still were hungry)) Coffee was strong:) the only issue was the size of our table and 30 min waiting time. Staff were nice and attentive. The menu is obviously different from the shots uploaded earlier.

Super cute café with awesome breakfast. We had the brekky bagel with added avocado and the avocado toast with bacon. The bacon here is so thick and so good. The brekky bagel was definitely hearty and I loved the peppery kick of the arugula. For drinks we got a macchiato and chai latte. I expected the macchiato to be like the kind I get at Starbucks(so American I know) but the one I got here was essentially just an espresso shot with a dollop of foamed milk. However the espresso is really good and I added just a little water and made it into my very own americano. The chai is really good and comes in a little pot. They also have a wide variety of fruit juices that were really tempting but I was already stuffed. Service is also great and the waitress was so patient with explaining things to us! I definitely recommend this place and wish we had something equivalent back at home.

I didn’t realise I was in a bagel café! Call me deaf & blind — but I hadn’t realised beforehand that the staple food items at this cozy little place were those of the baked persuasion. To be honest I’m glad I didn’t know this before because I can’t actually eat that kinda thing — so wouldn’t have had the pleasure of dining here. Number 1 — the staff here are FABULOUS!!! Even through all my random questions, requests & changes to my order there was not one frown, eye roll or huff in sight. They went above & beyond to be polite, friendly & helpful — and to be honest if my meal had have been crap — I probably wouldn’t have cared because they were so damn lovely. But — aha — the food was also indeed wonderful! My mother had a delicious looking breakfast bagel & a couple of pots of chai latte(brewed with the tea leaves & on almond milk — also perfect!) & I had the beetroot & freekah salad which was delicious!!! We finished off by having a piece of the Orange & almond gluten free cake which was super moist & morish! Congrats Scout — you’re awesome!

What a treat! Scout was a forgotten favourite of mine, having explore it probably 18 months ago and loving it. However, after being smothered with breakfast options in Brisbane. I forgot about it. Until me return to it this week. I had a chai latte and the sticky date French toast. Both were delicious and generous! The staff were warm and friendly and organised. Although we had to wait for a table, we were seated in reasonable time and our food and drink orders were taken at just the right time and delivered to us with the right amount of promptness. Not too long to wait but not too short either. Overall a beautiful Saturday morning at scout! A rediscovered old favourite that I will definitely revisit very soon!

Breakfast on a Saturday morning. 10am. Expected place to be packed and have to resolve self to waiting on seat outside. Arrive. Tables available. Woo Hoo. Order coffees. Two flat whites. Peruse menu. «Is the breakfast autumn salad available without sweet potato?» «No, that’s okay. I’ll have the stewed apple and rhubarb with vanilla marscapone and cinnamon toast.» Friend orders breakfast bagel. Food arrives and I’m in love with the bowl of Autumn comfort food in front of me. Stewed to perfection. Not sloppy and not too sweet. Cinnamon toast fresh, buttery, cinnamony. Wash down with carrot, orange, celery & ginger juice. Breakfast dominated.

This is on my bookmarked bucket list & my sweet sweet man suggested we try it out this morning, post Valentine’s Day. «Can’t reject this offer. It’s going to be a good one» — Sara H. I was right. He was right. The forever talked about Scout handed me the best damn mocha I’ve ever had in the history of my life. I also felt the need to have some avocado and feta on toast and holy heck– amazing. Despite the basil situation(sorry I just hate basil) I have nothing to report. All was perfect. Vibe– excellent Service– excellent Food– excellent Coffee– excellent Unilocal community you never let me down. This constantly«checked in» spot has been an inspiring coffee adventure for this lazy Sunday. Advice #1: if you think you should go, go. Advice #2: if you need a good coffee, go. Follow these two simple rules and you will have an outstanding day. Today has been fun. It’s not goodbye, Scout. Just see ya later…

Every now and then it’s nice to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city and Scout holds that perfect haven. Not too far from the CBD in Spring Hill, it’s a short bus ride with a stop nearly right outside the front door or a leisurely walk, although uphill. Scout’s interior design almost reminds of a small hipster café from the northern suburbs of Melbourne, various nicknacks on the walls and floor, mismatched timber counter and bench top and mini hanging garden from the roof. Even the very friendly staff match the vibe perfectly. The food menu, printed in a quaint typewriter-style font, is simple and simple done well. It consists of the usual modern breakfast suspects — smashed avocado, bircher muesli, breakfast bagel and breakfast burrito to name a few. The lunch section keeps it simple and consists of a selection of bagels and salads. On this visit I had the 8 hour slow cooked pulled beef brisket bagel with provolone, fresh cucumber, aoili and rocket. A wonderful combination of ingredients, the cucumber was a little unexpected but added well to the flavour mix. A cheese lover at heart, some extra cheese would’ve made this even more amazing. Coffee was on point, beans from Coffee Supreme, and completed a great lunch. For those looking to take a break from it all or just after some well thought, no fuss food and coffee, Scout is the place to be.

Scout is awesome. We went on a Saturday morning and it was pretty busy. If we went again I would probably book just to make sure we got a seat! Have driven past on other mornings and there has been a line out the door! The service was great. The food took awhile to come out but I was happy to wait as it was awesome when it came out! I had the breakfast bagel and it was amazing! Loved it. Definitely will be back.

We loved Scout! Great brekky, served by efficient, upbeat, fun people in a laid back atmosphere. This excellent experience was all the more amazing considering the Sunday morning onslaught that happened all around us as we enjoyed our coffees, juices, and food. We arrived at 8:15 and needed to wait for some time to get a seat in the front of the store. Around 9am the ‘line’ outside had grown considerably. We ordered a bunch of nice coffees(latte, cappuccino, picolo) and juices(fresh OJ and something with carrots and ginger that for sure will wake you up). For food we had a bagel with kaiserfleisch, pita with tahini and haloumi, and kale salad(see the pictures for details). All was seriously delicious. Scout is another great example of Brissie’s excellent brekky café culture!

You know what irks me? Paying for bad coffee. This is not one of those places. I’m not a big coffee drinker but when I do, it has to be good. That’s fair, right? I’d rather save the coffee space in my belly for a few days till I get to Scout then having bad coffee. Scout CONSISTENTLY delivers. Kudos to the barista! I must admit I need to be more adventurous with my brekky at Scout, but it’s hard when when the avo smash with Keiserfleisch is sooooo delicious! Having said that, I’ve had the brekky bagel and since then the brekky salad. Both of which are outstanding. For lunch I’ve only had the spicy chicken bagel which is moderately spicy and a bit messy but extremely tasty. As for the messy part, live a little! That’s why they invented napkins.

Famished from my plane ride across the ditch, Lani and I strolled into Scout today for a late lunch. The menu is short — about 3 or 4 lunch options and a couple of salads — but I would have happily demolished each and every item. It all sounded delicious. I ended up ordering the white anchovies served with a capsicum & herb salad and smashed white beans on sourdough. I had had a hankering for anchovies for a couple of days and this definitely hit the spot. Light, fresh and flavoursome! On top of the delicious food, Scout also has delicious coffee(which happens to be made from beans roasted by NZ roastery, Supreme). My latte was strong and grunty — the perfect finish to a brilliant lunch!

Honestly so worth it. It’s vibe is just epic. I love the typical indie/hipster/hippie/relaxed style when it comes to life, especially with cafes. I didn’t really know what to expect, except I’d read about it in the Urban List’s Top 10 cafes in Brisbane 2014 and was assuming it would be good. We came here for brunch which half turned into lunch. It was very busy but we were lucky that a table of 3 was just leaving as we were arriving so we only had to wait a couple of minutes. The service was great and the waitress was super friendly. Everyone was a bit radical and left of centre who worked or went there which is what I loved so much about it. We had to wait a while for our breakfast(bagels and avocado toast all the way) but it was well worth it… leaving a large food baby behind. It didn’t look«that big» but honestly had a hard time finishing it all. The coffees are great there too. It’s all round a super cool place with great vibes and a chilled atmosphere. The background music was great as well… well for me… they were practically playing my favourite tracks. There’s nothing a good breakfast and coffee can’t fix and was the perfect Friday morning brunch experience. Such a great way to end the week and start the weekend. I highly recommend this place but expect it to be busy unless you’re ordering takeaway and then you’ll be sweet. Definitely worth it and parking is easy :)

It’s probably time for a menu shake-up here at Scout. I get that regulars have their favourites but perhaps it’s time to bite the bullet and get rid of eg. the breaky salad and breaky bagel. I think the general public are always energised by newness, adventure and the next best thing. Just an idea!!! The service, coffee, food and vibe are still good.

What better way than to spend your Sunday morning with a friend, drinking coffee, and a bite to eat. Scout is just the place to do so. After driving past numerous times, and seeing a buzzing beehive of Brisbanites, I had to see for myself. Upon walking in, we grabbed the menu off the counter and started perusing. We were shortly greeted by one of girls working there who explained that it was table service. Despite having no seating available we were quite happy to wait outside on the benches for fifteen minutes or so with a coffee. Under promising and over delivering, the girl collected us after 3 minutes and we were seated. There is about 7 tables with two seats each in the main room, and a large table in the back room seating sixteen. It was really muggy, so I would have preferred to have a seat closer to the door. Our coffees shortly arrived after sitting, I had ordered a piccolo and my friend, a latté. My piccolo was silky and packed full of flavour. I had to have another. I didn’t ask what beans they were using, but the barista know what she was doing! For food, I ordered the smashed avocado on pane with the works. This included feta, egg, chorizo, kaiserfleisch, and lemon. Wow. What an avalanche of flavour, definitely the heartiest option on the menu, and well worth the money. What can I say Scout, other than a job well done. Keep up the awesome work! I’ll be back, that’s for sure.

Hoping each time that my treks by foot to a café in Brisbane aren’t in vain, I was happy to arrive at Scout on a chilly, overcast day. Sitting along one of the main streets behind Roma Station, Scout is a rustic, hipster-y café that offers a variety of bagel sandwiches, pastries, and coffee. While I dislike describing a café as «hipster» — it’s an easy way of saying the café has wooden interiors with a bit of chipped paint, has wooden chairs, vintage décor, serves you water from glass bottles, and hopefully serves good coffee. I was delighted to find that their Saigon coffee– a coffee served with condensed milk — was not disappointing. There was a bit more condensed milk than I typically would like, but the coffee was still strong, and at 4.5, I was a happy caffeinated girl. Though their menu isn’t particularly extensive, all their choices sound absolutely delicious. I had the poached chicken, avocado mash, roma tomato, and rocket with lemon aioli bagel sandwich(11), which was exactly what my palate was looking for that day! The sesame bagel was chewy but had a nice crunch, the smoked chicken was flavorful but not too dry or salty, and the lemon aioli was the perfect finishing touch to the sandwich. One of my favorite parts of the bagel was the toothpick it came with! Maybe I just haven’t been shopping much, but it’s pretty much the epitome of hipster(see below). Everything I had looked and tasted fresh, and needless to say, I was happy that my trek out in the cold was well worth it. The service is friendly and prompt, and they even have cards and a couple of magazines, books, and newspapers for the interested reader. It’s cafes like these in Brisbane that give me hope.

4÷2÷2013 — «Indie Cool» Petrie Terrace, Caxton Street, and its surrounds have enjoyed a revival of sorts in the last 5 years or so, especially with the popularity of The Barracks, and the myriad of dining options, and shopping it has on offer, as well as the Palace Cinemas. Further up Petrie Terrace though, it was still quiet and«empty»,(despite the amount of traffic here), lacking a spot that regular Joes and laid-back Janes could call their own. Until now. Opening only last Wednesday(30÷1÷2013), is Scout Café at 190 Petrie Terrace, opposite Hardgrave Park. For many years this Victorian heritage listed building, was abandoned, with many rumours of it being an old brothel during the Joh Bielkie-Pietersen era. There’s a lot of history and character in this area and this building, and probably one of the reasons why Susannah and Candy decided that it was time to breathe life into this Petrie Terrace gem. Inside is quite«homey», rustic, and has that cosy feeling. Simple and minimal fit out, the wooden floorboards & furniture, the plants that adorn different corners, the large windows with a view of the park, and for watching the world go by, make Scout Café such a beautiful little spot. My first impression was that a little bit of West-End’s non pretentious vibe, artistic eccentricity had been brought to Petrie Terrace. I describe it as «Indie cool». The charming blackboard reveals the food on offer for the day. Scout Café serves«Coffee Supreme» blend from New Zealand and although Scout Café’s menu isn’t extensive(yet), it still sounds yummy, so I ordered the Smoked Salmon, pickled onion, quark & lettuce on a toasted bagel, with an espresso short black. I make my way to the back, a separate room, where there is a large central table with a Melon as a centrepiece(a melon!), and take a seat on the wooden stool. Immediately I see the potential of this room. Along with the fireplace, it feels perfect for those winter months for enjoying a coffee or hot chocolate while reading a book. Their waitress promptly provided me with some water(without me asking); I always appreciate little things like that. The espresso came out, and I downed it like a thirsty Italian on a summer’s day. The coffee was rich, not bitter, just the way I like it! Once my meal was brought out, I couldn’t wait to try it. I really liked the«smoky-ness» of the salmon fusing with the sweetness of the pickled onions, the quark & lettuce rounding it off nicely. I really liked how the bagel(although toasted) still had a soft texture. Susannah, came by to check in on me asking how the meal was, and I could only utter one word. «Delicious». Scout Café is such a great little place, laid back, comfortable in its own skin, with welcoming friendly owners. For my own selfish reasons, I wish others don’t discover this place, but I know this is not going to happen. In fact, I can see that seating will be an issue(with minimal furniture at the moment), as the word spreads of this lovely little space, and more and more people visit. Scout Café is open 7 days a week, breakfast and lunch.
