We went to Max Brenner as a post exam treat. It was a bit confusing the way they have it set out, they should really have menus so you don’t have to keep going up to the counter my partner and I shared a fondue which was good and I had a white chocolate chai which was average. San churros is definitely the better chocolate chain in my opinion

I’ve visited Max Brenner a few times to give it a fair go. It has nice hot chocolate but I think their sweet treats are a bit overrated. I just get excited after reading the menu but the food comes out and it’s a bit disappointing. My other issue with Max Brenner Joondalup is every time I go there is always lots of tables with uncleared plates. I understand when it’s busy and flat out but it’s a massive place and when it’s less than a third full and there plates and cups everywhere, it’s very unappealing. Just clear the tables. All in all, it’s an ok place but I’d rather go to a café or another chocolatier.

10% surcharge on weekends?!? I wonder what it would be on a public holiday! No signage to let you know until at the register. Not cheap to begin with, the extra 10% makes it crazy expensive. A pity — it was always a treat to visit in Melbourne!

Absolutely shocking! Me and my girlfriend went there at last night, we were craving some waffles and me being from Sydney I loved Max Brenner, we ordered the waffles for 2 at 9:05 and did not get our waffles til 9:45! Absolutely disgusting service and the staff were very rude about it all! In saying that the waffles tasted good, but will never go back again! Service and wait time was appalling, it wasn’t even busy at all!

While our food was good(the brownie and the banana bread) it was also expensive, and our drinks were extremely mediocre. The 80’s milkshake, while tasty was extremely overpriced at almost $ 9. We also ordered the Italian Thick hot chocolate which my girlfriend said was«disgusting» and had a metallic taste to it. Will probably not be heading back here any time soon unless the prices change and the quality improves.

If you need a chocolate fix with a side of chocolate and maybe a chocolate beverage on the side, big Max’s is the place for you. The hot chocolate is obviously the best you will ever taste but to be honest the coffee is pretty damn fine too. I’ve only tried a couple of the dishes but they all look incredibly decadent and most definitely for the chocoholics out there. If you go, try lurking around the praline counter and score your self a free sample or two.

The lovely Miss Ho and I didn’t know what to order since everything on the menu sounded super rich. We decided on one *starred* option(the meringue) and one safe option(the soufflé because we generally like soufflés). We thought — with a name like *Praline Meringue Puff Extravaganza* how could you possibly go wrong?! It was wrong in so many ways. The only part I liked was the fruit. . The centre of the soufflé wasn’t as runny and gooey as I had hoped. The cake was more dense than the soufflés that I’m used to. I think this should be served with a scoop of ice cream(or even some whipped cream?) to break up the richness. We could barely get through half of these desserts. We probably should order less next time but after driving 40 minutes, it would have been a waste not to try more than one thing on the menu. I’m going to stick to San Churro if I ever need a chocolate fix…

Was there on launch day back in March, and was lucky enough to sample many of their fine desserts — I mean, how can you not like it there? We just went in for a drink today, the August hot chocolate specials were liquorice(yuck) and strawberry-cheesecake-white, although neither of them took my fancy so I chose the mint hot chocolate, which was really good — strong mint flavour, and not artificial. The staff were very bubbly and friendly this morning and they were handing out small hot chcoolate samples, presumably to tempt some of the crowds fighting to get into H&M(or re-energise them on the way out). Need to go back there for some serious dessert-ing at some point!

If you like hot chocolate then this is the place to go. I have been to a Max Brenner in the states and this one stands up to the standards. I recommend this as a few times a year treat as its so rich. The hot chocolates are basically just melted chocolate but if that’s your thing you will love it. Best tip — that banana bread comes with melted chocolate spread!!! Prices are very expensive but for a treat you can forgot about it whilst you die and go to chocolate heaven.

Great dessert options — but several months after opening, this store has still not got over teething problems which should have been resolved at this point. Even if the store is at 50% capacity, you’re waiting at least 20−30min on average for your order. In a restaurant — where you have entrees — this may be acceptable. When it comes to desserts however, this is unacceptable. A recent visit saw the store staffed entirely by trainees(the managers admission), and nowhere near enough experienced staff on deck. And even takeaway orders(i.e. a simple hot chocolate) can take upwards of 6−8min to be made. When this store overcomes these teething problems, you’d be more able to enjoy the visit. Until then, give it a miss and go elsewhere.

I loved Max Brenner in Melbourne when I visited it a few years ago. Now we have our own version it’s quite similar but feels a bit too overplayed. The pricing is expensive, and while there’s definitely some chocolatey goodness to be had, I’m not sure I’d go out of the way to return when there’s bespoke local venues around offering desserts at a more reasonable price.

Came here twice now & still hv mixed feelings. The first time we spent ½ a day looking for this place. Being on the outside of Lakeside Joondalup does Hv its advantages as it can still operate outside of centre’s trading hours but it’s a pain getting there(if you hv no idea where it is). Finally we called & was advised to park at the Joondalup train station then walk inwards. Ok problem solved, we found it. By then, just give me all the chocolate!!! Tables on a Sunday night is atrocious. Sticky & messy. I had to get a staff to clean up my table. She was great, very obliging. We ordered the fondue for 2. Dipping chocolate was really yum. But I feel it’s weird serving fondue for 2 with very very cold pieces of banana bread. Strawberries, banana & marshmallows are great for the fondue. I like the dipping chocolate. Today I took my daughter there as she loves chocolate. I ordered 80’s milkshake for her & Suckao(chocolate with a jar of milk for you to melt the chocolate in, then suck using metal straw/stirrer) for myself. We both enjoyed our drinks. I also wanted white chocolate cheesecake but they don’t Hv it. Not happy Jan! I then ordered Praline Meringue puff extravaganza. Nope I don’t like it, I don’t like the taste, I don’t like the way it’s presented. I ate all the strawberries & drizzled chocolate. Left most of the meringue behind. I like the Suckao but it should be a bigger cup. Much bigger cup. Definitely would go back for Suckao.

Mum and I visited on the 31st of March. We decided to share a double Tutti Frutti Waffle with a Chocolate lick. Whilst everything tasted delicious, I found the waffles to be very dense and chewy, unlike the like and crispy waffles I enjoy. It wasn’t until we had a look through their gift section that we saw they actually sell the same waffles to take home. They are premade and reheated in the café. The chocolate is delicious and the chocolate lick was worth it to dip the strawberries and bananas in. We both purchased cappuccinos which they serve it cute Kangaroo Cups, which have a pouch for melted chocolate. The coffee was rich but not hot enough for Mum’s tastes. I will definitely be back to try out their other desserts. Unfortunately I can only give 3 stars now based on the disappointing premade waffles.

Chocolate overload! I was lucky enough to be invited to a special event on the opening day so off I headed thinking we would get a few samples to try and out came half the menu! This isn’t a run of the mill chocolate shop. Be prepared to have chocolate on your face, fingers and clothes! Love the Popsicle Fondue where you make your own ice-cream creation with chocolate and sprinkles which is a great one for the kids. The brownie would be amazing on a cool day and the cheesecake on a warm one. Chocolate Mess Party is loads of fun with chocolate sponge drenched in chocolate syrup topped with ice-cream, whipped cream & sprinkles! It even comes with a spatula to serve. Of course there is the classic fondue with banana bread, marshmallows, banana and strawberries to dip into dark and milk chocolate. Until the 12th April they have some Easter specials the Love Nest Monster A little nest of chocolate pretzels with white chocolate ganache and mini marshmallows which is served with gummy bears and Sunny Side, white chocolate mousse with a mango ‘yolk’ on a sponge with a hint of coconut with strawberries and chocolate on the side. They also have Easter eggs with popping candy. Try one of their milkshakes in a ‘drink me’ cup or the amazing hot chocolates.
