Bella Vista Cafe

It’s the only café at the North head with nice view. We had a afternoon tea time there. Chilled drinks and the triple chocolate cake were good. Staffs were friendly.

During the week this place is great. It has a nice vibe and staff appear to be able to cope, even if the service is never exactly «welcoming». However on the weekend — it’s a whole different story as we discovered to our peril. As we had been reasonably happy with a couple of weekday visits we decided to visit to celebrate my husbands 50^th birth day with a brunch one Saturday morning in July.
After a lovely morning walking around North Head and watching whales we were pleased to sit down and order. … And that was it. We waited… and waited and waited. Two tables next to us got up and left after complaining. 40 minutes after ordering our drinks arrived. Coffee fairly cold and way too small to satisfy thirst by that stage. It was over 50 minutes before our food arrived. I ordered kumera rosti with poached eggs. I specifically asked for my poached eggs to be cooked hard. It arrived. I was starving. I cut into my eggs with great delight. Runny egg yolk everywhere! I scraped it aside and tasted my rosti… well it was cold and tasteless.
Very disappointed. The food was average. The waiting time was crazy and it is clear that this is a café unable to cope with weekend traffic. the only thing I can honestly say is that the wait staff were unflappable, calm and professional amidst all the complaints. I wondered if they were used to it.

Tasty food, AMAZING location and views, friendly staff. A bit on the pricey side but certainly worth it to get away from the hustle and bustle. Bring a coat for this time of the year, I’m freezing
