This gem is a real pleasurable trip for the senses. Great merchandising means I can glide through the spacious boutique and racks of brightly coloured clothing and feel all the unique textures and hold up the few of a kind designs. At the back section of the store a large window area displays rad furniture, from clear plastic moulded into classic style chairs right through to more modern shaped items in brighter even fluro colours — awesome! The staff were friendly and couldn’t ask me enough if I needed help looking for anything in particular. It’s a shame that I could only afford to buy something from this store once a year, with clothing items usually around $ 300 up to the thousands.

Mixed concept stores are a challenge to create, coordinate and maintain but Ricarda Fashion Objects has done a dandy good job in ticking all the boxes since opening not one, but three stores: one in Dalkeith, one in Albany, and this one here in Subi. The spacious boutique is minimally laid out, all wooden floorboards and bleached wood fittings, stocking gorgeous designer objects, jewellery, shoes, homewares and fashion aplenty. Labels include the avantgarde likes of Comme des Garcons, Bassike, Zambesi, Isabel Marant, Junya Watanabe, and Guidi & Marsell. So remember, you’re stepping into some very progressive space here…

Amongst Perth’s many tiny, cramped fashion boutiques, Ricarda is refreshingly big. Not that size in itself is what one looks for in a clothes shop — but thankfully, Ricarda uses all that extra space well, and fills it with stylish designer treats. Walking around this store, I could write a list as long as my arm of beautiful things that I want(and I’ve got pretty long arms). Unfortunately my budget won’t stretch to a whole arm’s worth of items, but for an occasional investment this place is a gem. They do homeware too — cool and contemporary pieces that would look at home in a minimalist city pad, mainly. And I can’t write a review for Ricarda without mentioning the towels. You may think it odd to get excited by towels when surrounded by so many beautiful clothes. But trust me, their patterned towels are so nice. I’m not usually a towel lover, but these towels — you’ve just got to see them.

In terms of fashion forwardness, Perth has certainly moved forward in stylish leaps and high-heeled bounds in the past couple of years. There’s a few gems scattered across the world’s most isolated city, and Ricarda is one of them. With it’s stark white minimalist interior, Ricarda is the place to go if you’re after modern, cutting edge design. They stock both Australian and international designers, like Marc Jacobs shoes and wallets, Y3 sneakers, hand bags by New York’s Wendy Nichol, Isabel Marant’s luxe knitwear, Maison Martin Margiela shoes to make you swoon, to contemporary eye wear by Chronicles of Never and Thierry Lassery, Alexander McQueen leggings and va-voom platforms by Opening Ceremony. The staff are nice and know their fashion, and are quite happy for you to browse through their sartorial museum. Definitely the place to go if you’re after an investment piece for your wardrobe.
