We are a small business capable of handling any size tree job from small roof clearance projects to complete maintenance of an entire city park. In total we are are 19 people strong: two salesmen, two client managers, four pruning/​removal crews, three treatment technicians and two office managers.

The owner, Keith Brown, is a board certified master arborist; all representatives are certified arborists; and crew leaders are ISA certified tree workers. And, we have dedicated office staff so somebody is always available to help you.

Our idea of great service is to provide you with reliable information, make appropriate recommendations and follow through with unbeatable quality of work, all at competitive prices.

There are three main aspects to proper tree care: tree health, safety and beauty. While everyone has their own opinion about aesthetics, at Austin Tree Experts, we aim to guide you through tree health and safety implications so your trees wind up being everything you want them to be… healthy, beautiful and safe.

History

Established in 2003.

Keith Brown started the business after leaving another local tree company because of new ownership. Within 3 months the entire production staff and the office manager rejoined Keith to reestablish a great service team. We started with establishing the pruning service and then developed the tree care side of the business. Now, today, we have offer a full range of services performed by top notch professionals. Although the Austin Tree Experts name is only 10 years old, the team has been working together for over 16 years.

My career began before I graduated high school. I just didn’t know it. My first job in the tree business was hauling brush in the summer for extra money during high school. Now, I own my own successful tree care service. Tree sap runs though my veins; this is more than just a job to me. It’s my passion. I’ve been dedicated to this career my entire life. This is the only thing I know (and maybe the only thing I understand!). And, I love it. It’s a truly interesting job and it feeds my family. Words can’t describe how attached I am to arboriculture. Immediately after school I ran through the certified arborist program. And, when the board certified master arborist program became available, I was the third person in the state of Texas to pass the exam. Still today I am one of only two in the city. Upon obtaining my BCMA I was invited to the American Society of Consulting Arborists. I’m also the city arborist for Rollingwood.

This is second time we’ve used Austin Tree Experts at our home in Avery Ranch. They are awesome!
Adam is a real professional. He arrived at the appointed time, and is polite and knowledgeable as he gives the estimate. The tree crew is super efficient and skilled. They arrived on time and did a great job trimming trees, and removing other trees. They cleaned up the yard and then did a walk around with me to be sure I was satisfied. Their bill has always been as estimated! I’ll definitely use them again.

I first contacted Austin Tree Experts, via the online request form, on June 3rd to request an estimate for the trimming of the trees in my front yard. I was quite impressed as got an almost immediate response. I scheduled an appointment for 4:30 on the 4th; however, I received a call that morning letting me know they needed to reschedule because the ‘expert’ they were going to send had to pick his kids up from school. I rescheduled for the 10th at 4:30, I had to take one hour of vacation leave from my job as I work downtown and it takes me 40 minutes plus to get home. When no one had arrived by 4:50 I called and was told they would contact the ‘expert’ to see where he was. I received a call back that the ‘expert’ had forgotten about the appointment and we would need to reschedule. When I requested an appointment after 5:00, so I would not have to take additional vacation time off, I was told the ‘expert’ would have to ask his wife if it was okay for him to work past 5:00. I was very upset at having wasted an hour of my vacation time, so I ask for the owner of the company to call me. I was told he would call me the next day, which would have been June 11th and I still haven’t heard from him. Not only did I not get my trees trimmed, but I lost an hour of valuable vacation time. The next time my boss tells me I have to work late, I think I’m going to try the line of the ‘expert’ and tell her I have to ask my husband.

This was the second time we have used this company and the results have been fantastic! We wanted quality not the cheapest. It was a great decision. Our trees have thrived and grown at an incredible rate. They are insured and use proper safety equipment. They have my highest recommendation!

I’ve used Austin Tree Experts several times over the past 10 years for trimming, tree planting and treatment of sick trees. They know their stuff and each time they were able to diagnose, recommend and give an estimate on a timely basis. The bill has always matched the estimate given.
What distinguishes their service from other similar services:
1. They are certified arborists and specifically they know what trees do well in Central Texas. They also know about specific problems that seem to plague trees in our area. Our trees have always benefited from their advice.
2. They cleanup afterward. I’ve seen a lot of services that left leaves and other debris on the yard. When the ATE crew was done with the job, the yard was actually cleaner than before they started– as they cleaned up limbs that had been knocked down by a storm in addition to what was removed by the trimming process.
I have worked with contracting and construction companies quite a bit over the years, so I have a pretty reasonable expectation about what to expect.
With any contractor you hire, unless you are the first appointment of the day, it is not unusual for the crew to run late. If you are the afternoon appointment, the crew will be coming from another job– so it’s not unusual for them to be running 1 – 2 hours late. Because the guys doing the trimming often don’t speak english, sometimes communication will be a challenge. While the arborists have always been on time and have communicated well, the crew has sometimes run late. However– I have to keep in mind that they are coming from another job and because they do cleanup after trimming, they do sometimes run late– it’s better to have a crew who is late because they take the time to do things right and do a thorough cleanup on their jobs.
They are a small company, so if you want to have services like tree planting that are seasonal, you should plan ahead and schedule ahead. If you have storm damage, you can expect that all of your neighbors have storm damage, too. Sometimes during the busy time of year, the lead time is 2 – 3 weeks for an arborist consult. That will be true of all tree services– so, where possible, plan and schedule services like tree planting well in advance.

Daniel and his team are wonderful! They fit me in their schedule within a week and trimmed a pecan tree in my backyard. The crew did an excellent job. I plan on hiring them in the fall to plant additional trees in my backyard. I would highly recommend them for any tree work you require.

When they show up to perform a service, they do a good job. Getting them there, however, is another story. Crews from Austin Tree Experts have visited my home several times in the last few months and they have been late every single time, sometimes more than 90 minutes late. Additionally, it has taken multiple calls and e-​mails to get a response from them to schedule each appointment. That kind of hassel is not worth it. I will not use them again.

Keith Brown of Austin Tree Experts recently helped me with an emergency animal rescue (our old cat was stuck in a tall tree). We waited about two days for her to climb down on her own, but she refused — no amount of shaking of dry cat food containers or calling her name would make her move. While other tree companies gave us the run around, Keith was willing to help our family out. Even after seeing the challenging location of our pet, he went above and beyond with his services. He brought his bucket truck, but the tricky location of the tree did not allow for the truck to be used (he could not park it close enough to the tree– our house and some fencing were in the way). The ladder we had was not tall enough, and he went out of his way to go home to pick up his own personal ladder that was extra tall. Even with the extra tall ladder, he still had to free climb a portion of the tree to get to the cat. He safely brought kitty and himself down to earth, and we were amazed and relived. I will not forget this extreme generosity and awesome customer service experience. Even though we did not use him for real tree work, I will use Austin Tree Experts for all my tree and landscaping needs in the future. Thank you Keith!

Daniel and Keith (owners) are punctual and on it for the estimate appointment. After that, it was quite the challenge. Left messages on both their voice mails before and after work was done and NO response. Work was done fine with exception to one area which was not completed as agreed. Workers’ clean up was satisfactorily average-​they left scattered leaves and little branches and lots of sawdust from sawing… they blew the rest of it into the street. We’d say that they are reasonable in price, the communication after contract is agreed upon is lacking and the work is satisfactory but nothing over the top. Seems the quality and interest has gone down over time and especially over the last year. Bummer because they seem like a good group and love that they are local.

As a repeat customer of Austin Tree Experts, it troubles me to rate them poorly. However, after waiting for over 2 weeks for a quote, this is not the level of customer service I would expect from any service company. They came out to my home to provide the initial consultation and provided a quote within a few days. However, when I asked to modify the quote, I got no response for a week (after a phone call and emails) and then an email stating that the quote was attached when it was not. When I emailed back within minutes, letting them know that they forgot the attachment, I did not hear back. A week has gone by and I still have not received a response. Unfortunately they are no longer on my list of trusted providers.

The online scheduling of a pruning and tree consultation through the webpage was a breeze. Daniel, the owner, called me from my front lawn and essentially gave me my consultation over the phone. I agreed to both projects: pruning of a large hackberry and some maintenance over a young Monterrey Oak.
The pruning went smoothly and clean-​up was included in the very fair price.
The maintenance of the young Monterrey Oak was rather rocky, but Daniel took care of everything. This work included staking, spraying, and radial cutting of the root ball, the last task being rather labor intensive.
During the first visit, the initial technician did all of the work except the radial root ball cutting. When he went to leave I pionted out that there were no cuts into the root ball, so he responded by using his shovel to go about 8″ deep. I to pressed him further, expressing that the work was incomplete, before he agreed and told me he’d contact Daniel to schedule a follow-​up appointment.
A few days later my invoice was emailed to me but I didn’t receive a call or email. Finally I emailed saying I would not pay until they finished the work. Daniel responded to me directly and told me they’d finish the work in a few days and I was scheduled immediately.
Daniel ended up completing the work himself. When I continued to question the work (I’m not normally a skeptic of others’ work, particularly when I’m not an expert, but my experience with the first technician left me unsatisfied with their forthrightness) he responded fairly and patiently.
I would use Austin Tree Experts again.

I’ve been in my house about 8 mos, and I discovered I desperately need gutters. Before getting an estimate, I wanted to get the trees pruned the proper distance from the roof.
I chose Austin Tree Experts because of their level of expertise. I live in a neighborhood full of oak trees, and up and down my street people have signs that say «Don’t prune February thru June.» Daniel with Austin Tree Experts assured me that pruning would be safe if done by professionals.
Daniel was punctual for the initial consultation/​estimate, and the crew was on time and professional on the day they were scheduled to work.
While the crew was working, one of my neighbors was concerned about pruning during February. She called the phone number of the side of the truck, and Keith, the owner of the company, actually came out and talked to her in person. Keith explained to me in an email that he has the highest level of arborist certification, and he has sat on numerous boards or panels that make recommendations regarding oak wilt. He explained that if tree limbs are rubbing against the roof, they’re already at risk of infection.
The crew got the work done and cleaned up after themselves (my yard looked cleaner after they were done than before they started). The next day someone came out to inspect the work and make sure I was satisfied.
This is my first house, and it’s the only tree service I’ve ever used. I don’t know how their price compares to other companies. But their service and knowledge seems hard to beat.

We used Austin Tree Experts for multiple services, so I have provided a brief review of each service:
Initial Consultation
I met with a total of three highly rated (on Unilocal & Angie’s List) arborist/​tree service companies, and I decided to hire Austin Tree Experts to prune and care for all of our trees. Shortly after I hired Austin Tree Experts to care for my property, a tree on my grandfather’s property line became an «issue». I had Austin Tree Experts diagnose my grandfather’s tree (another great experience working with Austin Tree Experts)
Pruning
Staff arrived on time. They were friendly and professional. The crew did an amazing job. They managed to remove all the dead limbs and still keep the trees looking healthy and symmetrical.
They meticulously cleaned all the dead limbs AND cleaned out the gutters. All for a very reasonable price.
Tree Maintenance
The price of this service is incredibly reasonable. The arborist assigned to our property, Daniel Priest, is professional, friendly and definitely knows his stuff.
Diagnosing/​Treating Sick or Injured Trees
My grandfather’s neighbor wanted to remove a huge, beautiful pecan tree that grows between the two properties. The neighbors had two legitimate concerns (1) a hole in the tree (2) a large limb that hangs over their driveway and part of their three-​story house.
The neighbor had a tree company (not monitored by an arborist) look at the tree. The neighbor’s «tree company» recommended completely removing the tree. The company the neighbor hired not only misdiagnosed the tree, but also did not know Austin’s’ laws and regulations regarding Heritage trees. The tree in question was large enough to fall under the Heritage Tree regulations — which would have caused problems/​fees if removed without approval.
Daniel Preist evaluated the tree and confirmed that the tree could be saved and nursed back to health. He also provided several solutions that would maintain the health of the tree and also address the neighbor’s concerns. I was very impressed with how he was able to address both parties concerns without getting invovled in the «issue.» Daniel is great! I am so glad he is taking care of my grandfather’s tree and the trees at our house.

I tried contacting this company today regarding a tree that fell on my roof overnight due to Tropical Storm Hermine. I was asked if I was an existing customer, after replying no I was told that they were booking appointments into October.
This is an emergency situation and I didn’t think that waiting until October was reasonable. Most companies will accommodate this type of situation. I was disappointed as I’ve been looking for someone to care for the trees on my very wooded property and this company had a lot of good reviews.
I guess this company is great if you are an existing customer or have time to wait around in the case of an emergency situation.

Thanks tree guys for trimming my tree and making it look not so sad and near death.
Keith Brown gave me hope for a couple more years for my sad silver maple that shouldn’t be planted in alkaline soil.
I know it won’t make it much longer but I want to keep it as long as possible. And you guys were the only ones to say that it could last a few more years.
Maybe I’ll see if they can come and plant a few Central Tx. worthy trees in the Fall.
I would knock a half star off because my check was post office returned and your website didn’t let me pay online and gave me 3 invoices, but I won’t. I am sure you just need a new web guy to help ya along. I know of one if you need him.

You know how you drive by a house and think «That house is so beautiful. I love all those trees!»? That’s how I feel about my house now! We had 2 old overgrown and neglected oak trees in our front yard. One was scraping our cars and anyone who attempted to walk in front of our house on the sidewalk. The other was scraping the roof of our 2 story house.
They raised the canopy of both the trees and expertly thinned one of them to expose more of our porch. I can’t believe the difference it makes in our property and it’s inspired me to make many more changes to the front yard. I’m so glad I didn’t just let my husband and father-​in-​law out there with a chainsaw!

Here’s the deal. We have three pears trees that were extremely neglected by the property’s previous owner. God knows when they were last pruned by someone who knew what s/​he was doing. In fact, it looks like someone actually tried to kill them as some point. Basically, they needed to be pruned/​restored to maximize their fruit-​bearing potential. Initially thinking that I might tackle the job myself, I bought a book on pruning and restoring fruit trees, then realized how complicated it could be and decided to hire a professional. Based on the reviews my partner and I read here, and especially because they advertise the services of a certified arborist, we decided to give Austin Tree Experts a go.
The arborist, Keith, came to the house and gave my partner an estimate for the job, and represented to her that he would be back to personally do (or at least oversee) the work. The crew that showed up, however, consisted of three young men, only one of whom appeared to speak English, and no arborist. The crew was efficient, courteous and cleaned up, so I have no particular complaint with them, but I feel like there was some misrepresentation. Where the heck was Keith, the arborist? It was his services and expertise we were paying for, after all. To give the benefit of the doubt, I am giving them three stars in case there was a miscommunication about the nature of the work we wanted done. But the experience left a bad taste in my mouth, and I think we’ll look elsewhere next time we need similar services.
