Cactus Jungle

Recently my mom who was an avid gardener passed away and I inherited some of her cactus that she had grown over the past 20 years. I live in a different part of California where we can get very cold frosts and extreme high heat (depending on the time of year). I reached out to a number of places for advice but Anne was the only one who answered me with helpful guidance and offered a number of solutions to my worries. Anne took the time to talk with me not just once but on a number of occasions, always answering my questions and giving me encouragement. Whatever happens to the cactus, Anne has provided some much needed advice. Thank you Cactus Jungle for having such a wonderful person working there. I will be sure to visit the store location soon to enlarge my growing cactus collection and to thank you again Anne for your stellar and caring customer service.

Cactus Jungle might be by far the best in the area if you’re looking for fancy house plants. They have variety of air plants, succulents, and even beautiful insectivorous plants. It’s so much fun just to visit and walk around the place! All staffs are very knowledgeable and helpful too. I tend to go crazy when I see pretty house plants or planters in general. I recently discovered the joy of making small terrariums and I’ve been spending lots! The good thing here is that they have point system. When you spend, you gain points. And eventually you can get to use it. Works for me!

Amazing selection but the prices are completely absurd. Go here for ideas but buy somewhere else. This place is twice as expensive as every other place I’ve shopped for succulents except for the curiosity shops in San Francisco.

I loveeeee this place. The employees are so knowledgeable and helpful. I can come here for some quick dirt, potters, succulents, colored sand, and questions.
They seriously have an answer to all my questions and also offer a few tips. (like who knew having netting over the holes at the bottom of planters keeps the dirt from dropping out… I didn’t!!!). They helped me understand when my plant was growing upwards versus outwards (needs sun), why my plants are browning (sunburnt), what kills the white bugs that are taking over my green babies (alcohol and a good hose down), etc.
The prices are pretty good too. And it’s nice going somewhere and knowing you won’t have to make a second stop. Ohh and the moss colors are AMAZING!!!
I suggest going during the week when you can have more time to ask questions with distractions. I will for sure keep coming. Interested in moving to larger plants soon too…

The plants here are beautiful and in very good condition. They obviously benefit from specialized attention and knowledge. We were looking for the «Luther Burbank» prickly pear varietal and didn’t find it. Doubt we could have afforded it if they had these reduced spine plants in stock.

Im am a new collector with cactus/​succulents on the brain. I’ve ravaged my local nurseries and heard about Cactus Jungle in Instagram. I took a trip out to Berkeley with my daughter today for a look.
The nursery is really charming and the small size didn’t phase me. The prices did.
I didn’t want to leave empty handed so I found a 4″ Euphorbia «blackbird» and a small planter to purchase. I tried not to be bothered by the feeling of being followed like I might make off with an armful of cactus and chalked it up to «Berkeley» friendliness.
All in all it was cute little place with an average selection at high prices.
If Im in the Bay I might return because Im a feind but I’m not craving the place like I do for Poots or Green Acres

Nice cactus, not a place for a large project. Dreadful attitude.
The have a great selection of cactus and succulents. If you go for those, I expect you’d be as satisfied as the customers leaving positive reviews.
We contacted them about bidding on a large installation of bamboo, likely to be well over $ 15,000. They seem knowledgable, but clearly did not get the memo on customer service.
They were very reluctant to actually look at the site, and encouraged us to order on our own. When the photos persuaded them that a visit was needed, they wanted $ 100 just to give an estimate, plus another $ 35 to drive all the way from Berkeley to Oakland.
None of the other bidders did anything similar.
Then, to top it off, they would not allow the $ 135 to be applied to an eventual multi-​thousand dollar purchase.
In reading the reviews, I note that their next most recent one star was from another bamboo customer, who was dissatisfied with their service.
We have done quite a few projects of similar scale, and never encountered a firm as disinterested in getting a large contract as this one.
Buy a cactus or two, but go elsewhere for big projects.

Re the comment — so glad that he would be willing to deliver and install over $ 10k of landscaping without taking a look to see if we were getting the right soil, supplements, etc.
I had no problem with the charge, if it would be credited to a purchase, which exposes them to no risk

A good staff makes a huge difference! I could easily walk to another nursery that’s only 5 minutes away, but I would rather drive over to Cactus Jungle because the staff is always super friendly, knowledgeable and willing to help with suggestions every time I visit. I always have a pleasant experience here and I love that they basically have a rewards card where you can earn points for every purchase because I do love my succulents. :) My only wish is that they would have the red pagodas I want… each time I’ve come for that plant it was never in stock so I had to buy it somewhere else. Other than that — I just love this place. Happy employees make happy customers. :) Thanks for always being so GREAT! :D

Tons of options, and the help has great information for you and are very friendly. I would highly recommend this place.
Only reason for 4 stars is that they are a bit pricy for some items. But if your all for supporting them (Like i am) you wont mind. Your paying for the knowledge and care

I came here looking for a particular succulent that my brother wanted for his garden, while I was out here on a little vacation. He’s all about nice and unique plants. Since I know nothing about plants, I just showed the picture of the plants I was looking for to the workers, and they were able to help me every step of the way with what I needed. The workers were super friendly, helpful, and just down right cool people. I’m not much of a plant guy, but if I was I would come here! They’re pricing is fair, and the plants I saw here were just all so beautiful and amazing. All I know is when I come out here again, I know I’ll be making another stop for my brother lol!

I stumbled upon this nursery when i was looking for carnivorous plants. This place is smaller then most and is known for their cactus and succulent.
They have a good selection of carnivorous plants and is cheap. I was here the other day and amazed to have stumbled and learned that they carry some hoya plants. These are amazing plants and rare to find.
Five stars for friendly and helpful employees that are well knowledges. A unique selection of exotic plants, and beautiful terrarium. Pricy but beautiful.

I bought three small succulents and a 3″ porcelain container from the SF Flower Mart that I needed to repot together. Well, I didn’t want to buy the several gallon bags of soil from big chain stores like Home Depot and Walmart just for a dinky little container, so I Unilocaled around for local shops that might possibly carry smaller bags. And since I don’t know much about plants, I was specifically looking for a place that’s knowledgeable on succulents care and the type of plants that would survive indoor fluorescent lights (office desk). Luckily, I found Cactus Jungle and it just so happened to be close to my workplace as well!
I rushed in after work, and my experience was pretty similar to many of the Unilocal reviews on here. Great service! I was greeted by this nice lady, and she took care of my needs! She kindly walked me around and pointed out all the kinds of succulents that don’t really need a lot of sunshine, and even answered all of my questions while I watched her repot my plants. Of course, all the names and species were definitely TMI for me — I wished I had the brain capacity to remember, but it goes to show that she knew her stuff!
I ended up buying another 3″ container (glass) and two more succulents, and she repotted them free of charge, whereas my other container & succulents were repotted for $ 5. That’s a pretty good deal, since I didn’t want to go through the hassle of cleaning up after myself at home (I don’t have any gardening tools). Charcoal layered at the bottom, then their special cactus soil mix, followed by lava rocks at the top. Yeeeeah – NO, I ain’t gonna try and go through the hassle of doing all that at home just for one tiny pot, haha.
I ran out of the store with a $ 15 receipt, and it wasn’t until when I was already driving away that I forgot to ask for the lady’s name. I was in a rush to get across the bay. Sigh. :(Well in any case, I highly recommend Cactus Jungle! Hopefully I won’t kill any of my succulents, but if I do… I will definitely be coming back. :)

Cactus Jungle is freaking amazing. Very much so the cream of the crop when it comes to the local succulent nation. Everyone at Cactus Jungle is super nice and plants are abundant and varied.
Shoutout to Kevin G. (Staff) because you’re freaking amazing! I went in with the sole mission of finding little succulents in hopes of building a terrarium. Kevin G. took his time with me and gave me the 4−1−1 on terrarium building:
1) sprinkle some charcoal bits onto the bottom of the pot (this will soak up any excess water）
2) layer on the soil and plant your succulents
3) finish off as is, or cover the soil with sand or pebbles
4) plants should be watered sparingly & about once a week
If you ever have any questions about your succulents or any other plants (they can be non-​succulents too), Cactus Jungle would be glad to help you! They really go above and beyond! Give them a go and you won’t be disappointed.

About a year ago I was in Mendocino county and pulled some really cool succulents off a cliffside. Got it home and never knew what kind it was. I started researching succulents on the Internet and I ended up even more confused and lost– who knew there were so many different types of succulents? So I figured I’d bring my plant over to Cactus Jungle, with hopes that someone can point me to the right direction. I couldn’t even get the question out before an older gentleman told me what it was. I now know what type I have… it’s an Aeonium Decorum! Mystery solved! He not only help me identify the plant, but showed me how to propagate them and care for them!
Their nursery isn’t as big as other nurseries, but it’s filled with so many different types of succulents! From huge 12+ feet cactuses to micro aeoniums. Aloes and agave of all varieties and sizes! Smaller quart size plants range from $ 6 – 13 and larger 3 – 5 gal. containers $ 30+.
Another reason why I came to Cactus Jungle was to see if they had a particular variety that I fell in love with while researching my mystery plant. The quite rare, and frequently sought after plant called Echevaria Agavoides «Ebony.» I didn’t see any out but thought I’d ask. Thank goodness I did because they did have it! They had it in the back where they were having it recover from some frost damage. I’ll definitely be back for more… very soon! Succulents are so addicting!!!

An abundant selection of cacti and succulents. To top it off, great customer service. I found this place by accident and I’m glad I did.
I was looking at mostly purchasing cacti. They offered a variety of cacti that came in different sizes. It was convenient that they sold cactus soil there as well at a reasonable price.
This is now my to go place for cacti. Workers were very knowledgable and guided me in the right place. Thanks to the employees for a great experience.

A great find! I am not a plant person and they tend to die in my hands.=(But, it is a new year and I need green in my house, so decided to check out Cactus Garden. Everyone I have come in contactthere are super-​friendly and helpful. They know their plants! I needed help so I asked for suggestions and they were very helpful in which plants will work for me. At the end I got 2 plants and came back a week later to get a plant for a co-worker’s birthday. They also will pot the plant for you if you buy or bring your own pot. I was really amazed how it came and was impressed with the potting. Awesomeness from a non-​plant person!!!

I received a terrarium vase and gift certificate to this place as a Christmas gift.
I didn’t have any prior knowledge regarding terrariums and plants that were appropriate for it. I walked in and was greeted by a friendly lady who explained how to choose the best plants for the kind of terrarium I had. Mine had a relatively small opening, so she suggested air living plants called tillandsias that don’t require soil. I just had to buy the decorative moss and sand to go around it and I’d be done. For bigger terrariums, you can choose succulents instead. I looked around at the supply of terrarium decorations: moss, pebbles, sand, rocks, figurines. I settled on some purple sand and bright green moss.
I got home and used some chopsticks to arrange my terrarium ingredients in their vase. I was very satisfied. I think buying a terrarium vase and gift certificate is the perfect gift for someone who likes crafts and plants. Terrariums look wonderful and the air plants are very low maintenance! And get it here! Their workers are very friendly and knowledgeable, I am also thankful their advice and help!
(My gift certificate here was for $ 30, which is good to buy a bag of sand ($ 3.99), bag of moss ($ 4.99), and two tillandsias ($ 13.95 and $ 4.95)). It was just enough to cover. Have fun building your own terrarium!

I often find myself at Cactus Jungle when I want to buy plants for gifts. Today, I was looking for a succulent for a friend’s new studio space. I wanted something that didn’t need direct sunlight and was hardy enough to stand cooler temperatures. I told the staff what I was looking for and they helped me decide on one particular type of succulent. They also helped me when I was looking for a particular type of pot. AND they even repotted the plant in the new pot for me and gave me a card with succulent care tips. I love it here!
Prices are reasonable and they have frequent buyer perks, too. I enjoy looking at their plant art (e.g. succulent wreaths) and perusing their grand selection of plants and pots even when I’m not shopping for any particular reason.

Wonderful place to find a variety of succulents, air plants, cacti and bamboo… along with pots and water troughs for your yard.
Staff friendly, knowledgeable and helpful in making recommendations and suggesting places in the area if they didn’t carry items. And if you’re lucky, you’ll see the resident whippets… mostly on the weekends.
I bought a rectangular, resin planter that mimics concrete but less heavy which will add a nice touch to my yard. They didn’t have worm castings and recommended Berkeley Indoor Garden which is another great place!
