Flat Rate Carpet

I recently moved into a new apartment in Sunnyside and wanted the place completely sanitized. I called Flatrate, they came right in the middle of the window we settled on and everything came out great.
Here are a couple things to know:
1. Talk to the technician and show him all the trouble areas, he will make sure to take care of them.
2. Don’t be scared to negotiate. I asked for 20% OFF or else I would have to price shop. They didn’t give me a hard time and said it’s pretty standard for first time customers. Actually, they have coupons on the website that I did not see and the technician just applied the code for me.
3. Tight time frames will not work for MOST service companies. I asked for an exact time but they were straight up and said it’s not possible with traffic and etc. Fair enough.
They were thorough, the technicians were nice and I would use them again. I doubt I would ever do a full cleaning like this again unless I am moving into a new apartment, but I look at it being like a maid service. The first time is always a deep clean — and then its just routine after that.
Use the coupons, they really don’t mind. I thought I would get less service but it’s a competitive market out there — so every dollar counts — and they wan’t to keep you as a customer.

When one schedules an appointment for arrival with a 2 hr window and calls to confirm the morning of, and subsequently speaks with the scheduler multiple times that morning, one expects that the service provider honors the appointment made and agreed upon. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen in my case.

They did a great job on my sofa, a white sectional that was quite dirty from 7 years of use. He used a solution and wand tied to a machine to go over the entirety of the sofa and then brushed each piece by hand. It looks 10x better than it did. The pictures really don’t do it justice. Plus, he was right on time and left no trace of having been in our apartment. I would definitely recommend Flat Rate Carpet.

Rude and pushy, and ALWAYS late or canceling appointments. I was told $ 300 and when I said thanks but no thanks he kept badgering me with a lower and lower price, felt harassed in my own apt. Never using again

I really wish I could separate my rating out by quality of work done and customer service because they would get 2 VERY different ratings.

While they did an awesome job on cleaning my 7×10 white shaggy rug, I was not only disappointed with the level of service I received but the amount of my time that they wasted and had absolutely no respect for (talking 8 hours of my time). The 2 rating is due to my immense frustration at how much of my time they wasted.
They were extremely prompt in showing up for the free estimate appointment. I had them take the rug the same day and was told it would be ready the following Saturday and that they would deliver it between 8am and 11am.
Saturday comes and it’s 11:15am and no rug, no call. I give them a call to get an ETA and am told they would be at my apartment in 20 mins. It’s now 1pm and still no rug or update. I call them back and after putting me on hold for a few minutes they inform me that something happened while they were cleaning my rug and that it’s not done and that someone should have called me that morning. Now they tell me it will be delivered on Tuesday between 3pm and 5pm. Since I live alone, I had to spend my entire Saturday morning from 8am — 1pm stuck in my apartment for a rug that was never coming — that was 5 hours of my time.
Now it’s Tuesday and my rug is supposed to be here between 3pm and 5pm. At 5pm on the dot I receive a call from them asking if I’m home and letting me know they will be delivering the rug shortly. At 6:13pm I give them a call b/​c (shockingly enough) still no rug. I’m told 20 mins. My rug was delivered at 6:55pm that night. Almost 2 hours after it was supposed to be delivered — almost 4 hours of my time sitting in my apartment waiting for them.
I understand that things don’t always go as planned but a good company prides itself on good service and part of that is letting your customers know when something comes up or you can’t meet the time frame that you provided.
So while I am REALLY happy about how clean my rug turned out (looks almost new again and this is a white rug), I was really not impressed with their utter lack of customer service once they had my business. As I mentioned they were exceptionally prompt when they came to pick up the rug. Just wish that carried over to once they actually had my money.
My rating may be a bit harsh but I think businesses not only need to provide quality work but exceptional service as well.

I contracted Flat Rate to do 3 jobs: clean an existing hallway carpet, replace carpet on my stairs, clean an area rug. «Z» showed up at my place with samples of carpet and gave me an overview of the process: the quote was more or less what I expected to pay for all these. Each «job» was done by a different group of workers. First they cleaned the hallway rug. No problem, quick efficient easy: good job. Then a single guy came to replace stair carpet. He came without a vacuum and with nothing to put down to protect my newly cleaned hallway carpet. There was a lot of dust and also carpet tacks that came up and were all over my hallway carpet and I got very upset. This man told me he had no supplies to keep my (newly cleanded) carpet protected if you can believe that! I called the office. Another manager type guy showed up and was nasty to me: I told him this was not a professional job, and how could he send someone out without protection and cleaning supplies? his response was «What kind of carpet is this we are removing, what kind of junk is this?» He refused to give me his name. He harped on me on like that until I called and yelled at the main office, I could not help myself! I felt I was getting the typical «rip off, NY style» job. Well, they assured me they would take care of it. After a few calls, and also a conversation in which they were like «carpet tacks? what are carpet tacks?» the manager guy on the job (a «religious» man by the way…) calmed down and did the job correctly. Main office assured me they would have the crew return to clean the hallway carpet later, which they did. The stairs carpet was installed very well and I am pleased with the color and quality. Manager guy on the job, never apologized. Terrible abusive customer service on that part. Then I contracted to clean an area rug: I did not want them to take the rug away to clean it because I have a constant turn over of guests in this space and a week to 10 days would not work. They told me this was not ideal, and told me also that existing stains in my area rug may or may not come out. I knew that, I just wanted it freshen up. They came with a tank and wand, which has a kind of spray and they run this over the entire thing… the carpet is damp several hours, then good to go. I watched them do this job which took like 20 minutes max, they pushed the wand over the carpet back and forth against the weave pattern, which in my opinion is a mistake: it should be run in left to right just as the rug was woven. The area rug is a good quality Persian style wool knotted rug, not too old, yes, with stains. Some of the stains came out, but this carpet is now marked with the scrubbing marks of the suction vacuum exactly in the direction they did it… there are areas which they seem to have missed and these now show up as irregular dirty streaks in several places. Also, it seems to me that the lanolin of the wool has been stripped from the rug and a rug that was «soft under foot» is now scratchy. I was exhausted from this other experience with them and so did not complain but really they need to come back and do another cleaning in the opposite direction, that of the weave then at least I would not have streaks. All in all, this was a highly stressful experience. I paid just over $ 1000.

My wife and I are staying at my grandma’s house for a few months while our daughter, born 3 months early, is in the hospital getting strong enough to come home. Grandma’s condo is much closer to the hospital than our apt in Astoria. Since one of us goes every day of the week, distance is important.
Anyhow, the carpeting in the bedroom was extremely dusty and causing us extreme allergic reactions. Every morning both of us would wake up hacking and coughing with deep eye crusties from overnight allergy attacks. Not the sort of thing we want to expose our preemie to!!!
It got so bad that we couldn’t stand another day in the condo. The bedroom was going to get a thorough deep cleaning or we were leaving. So we set on a search-​and-​destroy mission for dust mites and dust. We dusted every nook and cranny, but of course, there was the carpet which was hopelessly dusty and probably was infested with dust mites.
I called 3 major carpet cleaner companies. I explained our situation and while they were empathetic, they couldn’t give us an appointment for days… I called Flat Rate Carpet on a lark. The guy on the phone said he didn’t have any free appointments, but after I explained our situation, and that this wasn’t just another «I want a clean carpet» kind of situation, he was able to squeeze us in. We were SO relieved.
What’s more, not only were we given same day service due to extenuating circumstances, but they gave us a particular time that the cleaners would arrive, and guess what? They arrived on time, on the dot.
I have to admit that I thought the carpet was a lost cause, but between the deep cleaning /​dust mite treatment that Flat Rate Carpet did and our extreme «kill all dust particles» approach to cleaning the room, our allergies were completely gone within 48 hours.
It turns out the cleaning guy forgot to do our bedroom closets since they’re a little hard to see. We contacted the owner, and he made everything right. It’s clear from my interaction with him that the owner has a very keen and vested interest in growing the business and keeping his customers satisfied is of paramount importance. I didn’t think he’d go through such great lengths to keep us happy with the service. I was truly touched by his gestures and good faith.
Anyway, I have to say, Flat Rate Carpet is a First Rate Company in my book. I’d definitely use this company again, no hesitation.

From reading other reviews it seems that Stanley Steemer sells you on one price and when they get to your home they up the price. I ordered 2 rooms for $ 99. When they arrived the guy said oh no the living room is an area rug and so it will be $ 287 or something like that and the bedroom will be $ 150 (and that room is wall to wall. It seems as though all reviewers have to end up calling the home office to negotiate a price. They did not do a good job working on the stains, just brushed over them with the tool, nothing extra. NEVER AGAIN.

The company sent someone to do an estimate for the carpet cleaning for free. The guy gave me 3 options and pricing: Steam, basic and deep shampoo. Based on the condition of the living room (pet urine and dirt), it required deep cleaning for living room & hallway. The original pricing was $ 375 for living room and bedroom! I sent the guy off and ready to do some more research.
30 minutes later Daniel from the Office call said there is Black Friday sales, all service is 50% off. At the end i paid $ 159 for both room. The condition in my bedroom is not as bad but I figure since i stay there a lot, why not take care of it all at once. It will last 2 – 3 years.
The appointment window was between 8−10am, I misunderstood and thought it was the work window. So i was a bit unhappy to wait till 9am. Two guys came and the whole job took about 40 minutes. They both work hard, lifting my bed, the couch, scrub the carpet, vacuum, did a great job, especially my hallway. I am very happy with their service and friendly attitude. No tip was required but I figure its the holiday and I tip them $ 20, win-​win!
I recommend this company to all. Just remember to negotiate pricing before, confirm pricing when the guy arrive, make sure the move furniture without extra charge. Most importantly, give them some tips if you are happy, like me :)

Very professional job. Matt worked his butt off to deep clean an incredibly dirty couch. And the carpets look great, too. Will definitely use again.

After a horrible service and a bad experience with one of their technicians by the name Matt (who brought a friend along for the ride and asked ridiculous questions) I complained to the company and they took immediate action. They sent two new technicians by the name Mike and Medina and they both did a great job and were very understanding about my problem and the issue i faced the first time .They acknowledged that the work was not done well and professionally by the first person and re did the entire cleaning. My couch now actually looks clean, its not a half job done and I am happy with the result. I still do feel it was a little over priced as a company but the rectification of error in good time made it a little ok. Hoping for a better price deal next time.

This company was great to work with! The staff were very friendly, service was convenient and efficient and there is free pick up and delivery. The rug we got cleaned was very stained and would not come clean with resolve and scrubbing at home. They brought it back in a week looking spotless. It was 8′ x 10′ and only cost 110 $. An amazing deal compared to other companies. I completely recommend them and will use them again!

Yes, you have to haggle for a price. And yes, they didn’t show up during two windows of time to bring my previously pee-​stained carpet back. HOWEVER — they did call within the windows to say they couldn’t make — the second time it was because they had to give it a second cleaning to get the odor out. AND they didn’t try to tack on any extra charges! They also took off $ 20 for the delays — all in all, my rug came back smelling great and the cost was entirely reasonable. I would definitely use them again!

I had a bad experience with this firm.
I have a treasured sisal rug with a tapestry border trim. I called, on the recommendation of a colleague, asking if this firm could replace the rug and re-​bind it with the original trim. The receptionist was dim-​witted, insisting that they send «a rug specialist» to my home in Westchester to inspect the rug. Fearing a «we can clean it» hustle, I struggled for a clear answer: can you replace the rug and rebind with the original binding.
Ultimately, the receptionist prevailed and booked an appointment for a «certified rug specialist» to come and inspect the rug. I stayed home a day from work, and the «certified rug specialist» appeared on schedule. He looked at the rug and said it could be cleaned for $ 300. I explained that it had already been professionally cleaned, and that the spots had not come out, plus that it was worn, and that I wanted to replace it (as I’d already explained several times to the dim-​witted phone agent.) «OK,» he said. «How about $ 200.» So much for «certified rug specialist.
When I expressed my displeasure at how this whole transaction was going, he called his manager/​boss — Michael — on his cell phone. Michael said that, of course, they could provide the service I wanted, and asked if I could send him some pictures of the rug. (Ironically, I’d tried to send pics when talking with the brain-​dead receptionist.) So I sent a half dozen pics and a completely cogent, lucid request to Michael.
Response: Nothing.
Two week later, I resent everything and asked again for a response. Nothing.
This appears to me to be a totally fake company, scamming people with in-​home extortion when it comes to rug repair. Read the other comments, and PROCEED AT YOUR OWN RISK.

Note: I had written a negative review previously on Flat Rate, but they would only refund my payment ($ 540) if I removed the review. They would not fix the damage that they caused if I used another vendor to fix it, despite evidence and pictures showing the damage. Basically, they cleaned an antique beni ourain rug we had after our dog threw up on it. They talked me into cleaning the entire rug and treating it — which I was assured would not cause any damage.
When the rug was returned it was bare and falling apart in places, and the texture and pile was matted down and dull and stiff. Not the soft long fluff we so loved about it.
It took a couple months of calling to get them to take me seriously and call me back — I kept asking for the owner. After getting repair estimates from other professionals (they were not sure the pile issue could be corrected!) and getting it somewhat treated with (+ $ 400) by a different company, it still is not the same. Major bummer.
Save yourself the time and use someone else. I think it says a lot that they would only reimburse the cost they charged us (to basically ruin the rug and nothing else) if we removed the review.
Try ABC carpet instead.

I came across Flat Rate when I exited the BQE due to heavy traffic and saw a billboard for carpet cleaning.
I have a big 11×13 hand tufted area rug that my dog who passed away peed on. Since I was really saddened by the loss of my pet, I neglected to clean the carpet for about 4 years. It was during the middle of a move that I decided I would pack it up and give cleaning a try. The acid from the stains took away a lot of the dye which was blue, a very unforgiving color for pet stains. I spoke to Daniel who sent a team to pick up my rug for a free assessment to see what they could do. I was going to give up but he convinced me that he would do his best to restore the rug and gave me a 100% back guarantee if I was not happy with the cleaning.
I received the rug yesterday and I must say they were able to get about 90% of the stains out. Given the condition and length of time that the stains were left there, I am very happy with the outcome which exceeded my expectations.

Great customer service and good quality products. Nice rugs and carpets of all kinds. Lots if great deals I would recommend checking this place out ASAP as possible.

I used these guys to trim and surge a very large rug as it would not fit in my new apartment. Flat Rate Carpet was professional and easy to work with. They provided an estimate in person, picked up the rug a few days later, and had it back to me within a week and a half. They did not charge me above the estimate and the pickup and delivery of the rug was free. Very pleased with these guys — will probably use them in the future when I need to get the rug cleaned.

We had an accident in our office where some orange liquid spilled in one of the associate’s offices and we needed the carpeting cleaned ASAP. We called Flat Rate and they showed up within an hour of the call, addressed the issue and did a good job. The stain is just about completely gone, and I don’t hold them responsible as they worked and did everything humanly possible to resolve the problem.
In addition, their guys were friendly, responsive and not in heavy-​duty, over-​the-​top oversell mode. A big plus, based on what I saw in these pages.
I’d call them again without hesitation.

I read this only review that was not filtered AFTER the guys came and took my carpet. I immediately started panicking. Well, my carpet came back to me looking as when I originally bought it. My pooch had 2 accidents on it and I was scared the wee wee smell wouldn’t come out and would linger.
The company came to my apt promptly at the scheduled time. They picked up my carpet and took less than 20 minutes. A day later I found a coupon on line that they WOULD NOT honor, which was annoying. Also they took nearly 2 weeks to return my carpet, perhaps because it was during the holiday season.
When they returned the carpet it looked good, completely dry, no mildew smell, and no wee wee smell.
They do take it off premises, which to me is nerve wracking but my experience was good.
The cost was $ 175 for deep cleaning and pet stain removal.

I am HORRIFIED with the customer service of this company. I paid $ 400 to have 1 couch and 1 chair cleaned and it was the WORST mistake of my life!!!
