Get Up and Ride

We took the 3,5h Brooklyn Vibe Tour, which was great. The staff at the shop were very nice, the bikes were in good shape and easy to ride. The pace of the tour was easy cruise speed, with many stops. The stops at Fine & Raw chocolate factory and Ovenly Bakery were very nice. Big thumbs-​up for our guide Dahlia, who gave us initiated insights into the street art scene and start-​ups in Bushwich, the «Hipster» quarters in Greenpoint and the Hasidic Jewish community in Williamsburg, mixed with her own experience of everyday life in NYC. One of the best memories from our week i NY.

So I rarely do outdoorsy activities but my husband loves them so I decided we should go check out a sunset bike tour from Get Up and Ride. It turned out perfect for both of us. He got to enjoy the breeze and the fun facts about Brooklyn were unique and interesting even though we live here. Our guide Chandler was great with not only giving tour facts and details but also with the guidance for the ride. I felt safe the whole time. Hubby is definitely an advanced rider but he enjoyed what felt like a leisurely pace for him. I had already seen the easy to moderate rating for the tour so I actually felt a little workout on some of the hills but I felt so accomplished that we spent the evening being active instead of just stuffing our faces with food and Netflix. So much fun and different affordable way to learn more about your city. Definitely going to take guests when they come to visit!

Found this place searching through Unilocal for things to do in Brooklyn on a recent vacation to NYC. Great find! The business is a short walking distance from the M Line on the subway and nicely tucked into a residential community. Bikes are very lightweight, made of aluminum and don’t operate with chains… no worries about ruining your pants or getting grease on your legs. Many bikes have baskets attached to them to hold bulky items. Helmets are provided and we were offered gloves to keep our hands warm as it is unseasonably cold today. Thank you, Jesus!
We took the 3.5 hour Brooklyn Vibe tour with Tamera, our tour guide that made New York her home from Indiana 3 years ago. She was very thoughtful, kept us safe and offered lots of interesting tidbits about Brooklyn. There’s traffic along the route so safety is important. Along the way we noticed gentrification of Brooklyn is serious and spreading quickly. Made us sad thinking of all folks priced out of Brooklyn or impacted by all the rapid costly development. We were able to see some of the authentic neighborhoods and plenty of graffiti art. Beautiful! Our stops for chocolate, pastries, hot sauce and pizza were well placed along the tour and offered good things to eat.
Everyone made it back safe and sound and even got to pet the shop dog, Graham the friendliest lab you will meet. We grabbed a few tshirts for the road and highly recommend this bike tour. It will be even more amazing with nice warm weather and bright skies. Happy biking!

Stopped by the shop to rent a bike and the sales associate was so helpful! He suggested some routes for me and my friends to take. Told us some goods spots to take photos, and where to grab a snack too! He did above and beyond and was very knowledgeable. Plus, their bikes are super cool! I will def be back!

One would think… at least I would… that a rental is a rental bike. I didn’t care for there bikes a whole lot though. Felt like it took more effort to ride relative to a citibike, which isn’t great, and they were so top heavy that it was tough to park them. Also, I don’t like the coaster brake. I guess that is common on rental bikes, but I still didn’t like it. Get Up and Ride had prices that seem slightly better than average, and ridiculously good service though (Noni is the best).

Seeing Brooklyn by bike is by far the way to go. Taking a tour at Get Up and Ride is by far a must. The bikes are comfortable and easy to ride and the tours are well planned and take you cruising past all that you’d want to see and learn about the city beautiful, Brooklyn.
I was in town for a wedding and had a day to kill before the rest of the party got to town… so I opted to sign up for the Williamsburg/​Bushwick/​Green Point Tour. The tour guide James was awesome and brought the right amount of knowledge, humor and fun to the group. His enthusiasm for the City, which he himself lives in, was definitely refreshing. All in all, a top notch tour.
Afterwards, I hadn’t seen and toured enough and they were nice enough to offer me an overnight rental at a great price. The entire transaction was seamless and stress free. I probably rode about 20 miles all over BK that day, but the only thing sore about it were my legs.
I highly recommend Get Up and Ride for all of your biking and sight seeing desires. You won’t be disappointed.

What a great thing to do to discover Brooklyn and meet some interesting people. My wife and I recently room a tour on a trip from the UK and cannot recommend it highly enough. We spent 4 hours in the company of an entertaining and knowledge full guide and learned lots about the past/​present of Brooklyn in both terms of social and cultural history. We visited some cool spots that we definitely wouldn’t have seen otherwise & met some other people on the tour that were really interesting! If you got to Brooklyn-​Get up and Ride!

Felipe & his firm is the perfect bike rental for Brooklyn & surroundings and is highly recommended. We stepped in on a Wednesday noon and although we didn’t get on a tour Felipe showed us the perfect route with a lot of cool places right away for our private 24h tour. The price offer was perfect as well! Bike rental in New York? We come back to get up and ride any time!

What a fantastic experience we had on our 3.5 hour tour of Brooklyn! Nick was a fantastic guide, extremely personable, and very knowledgeable about the areas we visited. The bikes were excellent, and the tour was at the perfect pace for our group. I would HIGHLY recommend Get Up and Ride to anyone who is looking to learn about Brooklyn in a fun and active way! What a team!

Spoke to Noni early on Saturday morning over the phone. She kindly offered to put out a bike as soon as I made the reservation online (one bike for my brother who is visiting us, as my wife and I have two of our own). As I came by subway to retrieve it, my wife and brother were supposed to meet me at the store but due to traffic they were delayed. Noni understood and agreed to move the time over to 2:30 as opposed to the original 1 PM while I waited (they have Wi-​Fi) and bought coffee from Knife next door. When my wife and brother finally showed up she greeted them kindly and enthusiastically as well and encouraged us to enjoy our ride to Governor’s Island. We made it back in time at 6:30 and she was there to receive us with good service! This store truly cares about its customers despite its limited space and items (they don’t sell much in the way of accessories unfortunately — my own bike has a hard seat and they do not sell gel seat coverings, for instance).
My wife also says they have a clean bathroom which is a plus for people who come tired from rides (didn’t try it myself but I trust her). They also have free Clif bars to eat while resting on the benches they provide as a waiting space.
Noni was so kind as to hold on to and return my helmet the next day as I mistakenly kept the one from the store!
My verdict: RENT FROM THEM. You won’t be disappointed!

We weren’t able to do a tour (though they sound fantastic) so just rented bikes. Since we didn’t know Brooklyn, Felipe sat down with us and gave detailed recommendations on routes and stops. He was enthusiastic and generous with his time, not what we expected in NYC. It’s a young business and we hope it thrives as we would definitely return next time in town.

We did the Brooklyn tour on our first full day in the city. It was by far the best part of our week. Fabulous group of people who take great pride in what they do and where they live. It shows tremendously. Would definitely recommend.

We had a blast on this tour. It was our first time in Brooklyn. Having this orientation and historical context made the rest of our time that much more enjoyable. This was a great value, super fun and safe, and a great way to spend the day. We highly recommend!

We took the Brooklyn ride with the ferry ride.
We where a little anxious about the trip because non of us rode a bike for the lst 20 – 30 years… Yes, we took my 64YO mom on the trip!
Nonie fixed us up with the bike, alleviated most of our concerns with a welcoming and understanding attitude.
Nick took over for the trip and was professional and cheerful all the way.
We learned so much about the Brooklyn renaissance, and looking forward to revisit.

My boyfriend and I created a ‘Spring List’ where we would do different NYC activities and Get Up and Ride was our first adventure.
Get Up and Ride was such a fun and wonderful experience. We did the Brooklyn tour which basically covers the streets of Greenpoint, Williamsburg, Downtown Brooklyn, Bridge Park and DUMBO. The whole bike ride is 16 miles but it didn’t feel like we biked 16 miles due to the wonderful stops we made throughout the tour. We stopped at this amazing pizza spot, «Best Pizza» which really is THE best pizza in NYC. We also stopped at the Brooklyn Grange, the largest rooftop farm in Brooklyn’s Navy Yard! This is a place in which you will not typically go on your own but it’s so worth the trip.
I absolutely recommend Get Up and Ride to those looking to be outdoors, tour Brooklyn and do something different.
We added the Manhattan tour to our list and hoping to do it very soon!

My wife and I were in New York celebrating our 23^rd wedding anniversary. We did the Brunch tour and had a great time. Nick was our guide and did a great job. We felt very safe and have to say it was one of the top highlights of our trip. Thanks Nick and Felipe!

My husband and I did the Classic Brooklyn tour over Labor Day weekend. James was our guide and made us feel at ease from the start. He made sure everyone’s bikes were properly fitted, that everyone who wanted baskets had one (and stowed away items we didn’t want to bring with on the tour in a secured locker), and even made us do a group ice breaker to get to know one and other.
My husband and I rent bikes on occasion while on vacation, but that’s about as much as our «experience level» goes. James led the pack through the different parts of Brooklyn with ease and I never once felt like I was in over my head (traffic-​wise, bike law-​wise, etc). The in ear walkie talkies allowed him to speak to us the entire ride /​day, guiding us through traffic and pointing out various points of interest.
In some of the more crowded parts of Brooklyn, I noticed some couples /​families on the rented «Citi Bikes» looking frantically at their maps (or at us longingly). I am convinced there is no other way than Get Up and Ride for an outsider to bike Brooklyn!
Favorite stops — the Grange @ the Navy Yard and Brooklyn Roasting.
AND, we loved what we saw of Brooklyn so much that we came back the following day for brunch… And maybe a few drinks @ Brooklyn Brewing before the crowds started (thanks for the tip, James).

Just got back from our 4.5 hour ride around Brooklyn and wow. In short, it was an amazing tour of all the different neighborhoods, through funky street, old warehouses and beautiful parks. We stopped for cookies, beer, pizza and coffee. I couldn’t of dreamed up a more awesome day! I’ve done a number of bike tours around the world and this was by far the best run tour I’ve ever been on. Thanks Philippe for a great day out, we wish you all the best for the coming summers!

If you’re looking for something outdoors, cultural and calming, Get Up and Ride is an incredible way to spend an evening. I participated in the «Bikeable Feast.» First, we traveled along the bicycle pathways of Brooklyn and made a pit-​stop at an organic, local butcher shop. We sampled delicious pastrami and ham with gaining in-​depth information from the three butchers.
Next, we traveled through the vast neighborhoods of Williamsburg, Greenpoint and a few others. I never felt uncomfortable or unsteady while biking throughout the trip. Each of us listened to our leading tour guide through CIA-​style ear buds, providing more color on the details of each neighborhood. In the later half of the trip, we stopped for a few moments at Greenpoint Creek, near Greenpoint Brewery.
At the end of the evening, we settled down in an open park under lights and a neatly arranged dinner table setting. The chef, Shane, prepared us fresh vegetables, smokey pork and huge crispy kale leaves. The dinner was amazing and topped the evening off perfectly.
Bottom line: this is one of those peaceful, warm nights that you’ll remember for years to come. Get out there.

A bike ride in a cozy group of 10 is just perfect for discovering hidden beauty of Brooklyn. It turned out that this boro has its own atmosphere and is as attractive as overcrowded Manhattan.
GetUpAndRide have their original tour route, with quite a few noteworthy places I would never discover on my own. Moreover, they take you to some really exclusive locations, such as a former workshop’s rooftop, with a magnificent view on Manhattan, which you barely can get to on your own.
Choice for lunch place was just perfect.
Better plan 1 – 2 hours extra for unexpected delays with bikes (flat tires mostly).
